I don't know if this is acceptable but, could you do headcanons about the reader teaching the dorm leaders about the Chinese zodiac and the personality traits each animal in the zodiac has? If you're unfamiliar with the Chinese zodiac and its animals, feel free to do research about it first before you can start writing the headcanons.

I had a creative idea for this one. I also used 2 websites for this. I myself was born in the year of the Pig.

Riddle Rosehearts

If we’re gonna do math, he was born in 2005. Considering August 24th is his birthday, and August has not passed yet, and he is 17 right now, he was born in 2005. That means he was born in the year of the Rooster. He was shocked and confused to hear that until you explained it.

People born in the year of the Rooster were typically described as independent, practical, hard-working, and observant. He doesn’t truly believe in horoscopes or zodiac signs, but he finds the spiritual intention behind it very intriguing.

Leona Kingscholar

Alright, so he’s 20 years old. His birthday is July 27th. That means that, since his birthday has not yet passed, he was born in 2002. When you tell him that he was born in the year of the Horse, he was most definitely confused.

You explained that the meaning behind it was that he would be described as energetic, independent, impatient, and enjoy traveling. 2/4 of those words were actually correct, and he loved traveling home if that counted.

Azul Ashengrotto

He’s 17, and his birthday is on February 27th. His birthday has not passed yet, so he was born in 2005 just like Riddle. He was born in the year of the Rooster alongside the Heartslabyul Housewarden. He was kind of weirded out and asked for an explanation as to what that meant.

You giggled and told him that Roosters were typically described as independent, practical, hard-working, and observant. He was about to deny it all when you pointed out that he managed a Lounge on top of schoolwork, always managed to see where he could make profit, and he did this all on his own.

Another 17-year-old. He was born on June 25th, so like both Riddle and Azul, he is a rooster. He laughed out loud when you told him this, because it’s not everyday that someone calls him a rooster. Who wouldn’t laugh at that?

You laughed along in response, but when you both finally calmed down you explained that Roosters were typically described as ‘independent, practical, hard-working, and observant’, and you both started laughing again at the irony.

Vil Schoenheit

He is 18 years old, and his birthday is April 9th. This means that he was born in 2004. You almost didn’t want to tell him his zodiac in the case he got angry, but he insisted. You told him that he was born in the year of the Monkey.

You explained that those who were born in the year of the Monkey were described as fun, energetic, and active. I feel like Vil can be fun, but he typically isn’t because he’s too busy. You would say that the description matches up with him fairly well considering he likes yoga and exercising.

Idia Shroud

Like Vil, he is 18. His birthday is December 18th. This means he was also born in 2004, and he was born in the year of the Monkey. He was most definitely weirded out because he was used to the Grecian zodiac signs.

It was hilarious how much he did not fit the description of his zodiac sign. People born in the year of the Monkey were described as fun, energetic, and active. He chugged caffeinated drinks and he had a lot of fun playing video games, but he wasn’t active at all.

Malleus Draconia

His age is actually unknown, so we’re just gonna slide on past it. Instead, you just told him all the other Housewarden’s zodiac signs and their personality traits. While you laughed at some of the contradictory ones, a smile graced his lips.

I believe he would be born in the year of the Snake since they are described as charming, gregarious, introverted, generous, and smart. You can not tell me that he does not fit this description to a freaking T.

howdy wawa! random question for ya: do you know if chinese zodiac signs are still Very Important in mainland china, or have they gone the way of the greek zodiac and are regarded as a kind of pseudoscience/harmless fun?

(ps—bonus question for you that you don't have to answer if you don't want to: what's your zodiac sign? mine's the snake, which is great, because they're some of my favourite animals! 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍)

Kind of just depends on if you care about that stuff. Of course everyone knows what their Chinese zodiac is compared to maybe not everyone knowing what their western zodiac is. China obviously has more references culturally to the Chinese zodiac and the zodiac cycle (12 years), so it is certainly more prevalent in society.

There are some expressions or common/casual superstitions about compatibility that may be held with zodiacs and I sometimes see offhand comments online where people will attribute some quirk or personality trait or personally held belief to their zodiac year. People will wear red socks or underwear everyday when it's their zodiac year for luck (I wore a red string necklace all year last time it was mine). But widespread practices or superstitious beliefs of any kind that extend beyond "harmless fun" would have been left behind and heavily discouraged at least in the last few decades.

Western astrology is more of an internet age special interest I think: more popular with some younger people, but I do also see other systems like blood type or MBTI that people like to base their personalities on.

yep you got it!! I wanted to keep Dom's snake motif hehe, and I thought Morgan would make a very cute Dragon 😭

I wanted them to have zodiacs that weren't the "top combatibility in love" signs (both their chinese zodiacs and greek zodiacs*) because while I see them as the quitessential lovebirds in my pantheon of ocs, I think they're more the type of lovers who make it work through effort and care, rather than being immediate passion and alignment

with a keen eye for detail, a good ear for both what the people want and whatever problems his friends might be facing, and a strong shoulder to cry on, KIHYUN is a pretty good person to be around. he’s everywhere and nowhere, an ebbing and flowing tide that can go from livening up the mood of the party with his ever-enthusiastic and always-sunny disposition to sitting quietly and providing whatever advice a member may need when they confide in him about things they may be struggling with. he lives for the adrenaline of idol life, the instant rush of endorphins that he gets from the constant performances and photoshoots and recording sessions—so much so that his focus on getting the good things often overpowers the very real weight of the responsibilities he has on top of them. his friends have usually been there to keep him in check, to make sure his preferences for spontaneity and exhilaration don’t go too far, but it’s still something he needs to work on.

when KIHYUN feels, he feels all too much all at once. everything almost feels as if it’s to the extreme, turned to the max. when he was younger he used to flare up at almost everything, temper constantly rising and falling erratically, but now that he’s grown his temper is almost completely in check, and his anger is a rare thing to bare witness or be victim to. he’s empathetic with all of his friends, able to provide support for them when they might be going through fights with others or battling insecurities of their own, but conflicts or problems brought up against him is where he switches off completely. he’s flighty and avoidant, often deciding to simply push through the bad feelings and rising tension or attempt to escape it altogether by simply removing himself from the space of the person that has grievances with him—no matter how big or small the issue is—rather than actually sitting down and talking through it to resolve the rift. this habit of his has never gone far enough to permanently fracture his relationships with the other members, but in the past it had come close.

in the moments where KIHYUN himself isn’t feeling the greatest, he’s never exactly eager to let people know. much like his approach to conflict, he prefers to either breeze over the feelings of inferiority or insecurity and pretend they’re not there, hoping they fade away with time, or cope with them in ways that aren’t the healthiest. bottling things up (although it may seem like an odd thing for a thought to be ‘hyper-sensitive’ pisces to do) is by far his one of his worst habits and has landed him in hot water a few times in the past, but as he grows more and more he’s making more and more attempts to work on it—and those attempts are of course being assisted by his closest friends, the members themselves. where he would usually pick the more detrimental things to cope with his inner feelings, KIHYUN now tries to focus more on pouring it all into a creative outlet—namely music, or dance. he’s much better than he was when he was thirteen and looking for reasons not to drop out of the company altogether, and he plans for the improvements to only grow over time.

on a cold morning in march 2001, KIHYUN was born the first child of a young mother struggling to make ends meet (and who would also be labelled a ‘prostitute’ in rumours spread in early 2018, seeing as their small flat was only a stones throw away from the infamous capital alley—rumours that would never be addressed by SM and left to be speculated about) and an unknown father, who KIHYUN never once heard of again except in spiteful passing remarks made by his grandmother who lived with them in their two-bedroomed apartment. despite their living situation, KIHYUN was a happy child at home, always appreciating the love he was given, the roof over his head, and the food on his plate. problems only really started to arise when he started school.

school and KIHYUN did not get along in the slightest. making friends wasn’t the problem—KIHYUN was a social butterfly if you ever saw one, drawing people in like magnets with a smile and a joke whispered behind his hand, making them feel as if all his attention was focused on them—it was the education itself. the lessons were too hard, words swam around the page and danced off of the paper, numbers twisted themselves up into unintelligible shapes and floated off into the air around him, and none of it seemed to stick. KIHYUN loathed it from the start, and it only got worse as the years went on. in september 2009 his younger half-brother was born—to a father that he actually got to know, but a man his mother still wouldn’t commit to, still wouldn’t marry, a man that he only got to see from time to time, and suddenly there was one less person to talk to about the words that made his head ache and numbers that made his eyes water. he became a lot closer to his grandmother in those following years, moving from his mother’s bedroom to hers and cuddling close to her in the evenings when she let him stay up with a wink and finger to her lips as she switched the television channel to the the music shows.

from the very first night he saw the idol groups, the men and women dancing in all their synchronised glory, hair perfectly styled and no blemishes to be seen, KIHYUN was hooked. he had found his dream. one that, from the looks of it, had far less of the numbers and letters he hated so much. his mother (and baby brother, even if he couldn't understand a word) had burst into laughter when he told them of his dream, but KIHYUN was adamant, and his grandmother had faith in him too. he started to learn all the words, memorise all the steps, until every day after school he was dancing around the apartment belting out SHINee and f(x) songs until his throat was hoarse. he knew what he wanted to do, where he wanted to go. SM ENTERTAINMENT was the company that housed most of his favourites, the so-called ‘greats’ of the industry at the time. he was going to get in, and get famous.

a late afternoon in april 2013 is when he did it. he got a leg-up from one of his friends out of the school gates and ran all the way to the train station, paying for a ticket with the pocket money he’d been saving up for months. he asked around for directions until he finally found the place the audition was being held, did all the things the vaguely frightening people in suits and ties told him to do, tried not to feel too much like a clown at the circus while performing, and held his breath. and by some miracle conjured up by the stars above, KIHYUN managed to make it through. he tried not to groan out-loud out of fear of being dropped again when he was told he’d have to continue his studies despite now being a trainee, neglected to tell his mother because he was scared he’d be kicked out (and was pleasantly surprised when she only told him that she better be seeing him on tv in a few years time), high-fived his grandmother with a wide grin on his face, and packed up all his things to make the official move into seoul. there he trained for three long years, until finally he was told he and seven others, seven fast friends he’d already made, were set to debut. NCT DREAM, their subunit was going to be called, and the rest was history.

and anyone born with a certain percentage of Isu DNA turns into an animal when they embrace anyone who *doesn't* have sufficient Isu DNA.

ie the whole Auditore family has enough that Ezio is fine giving family affection

but the first time he chases a pretty girl and she surprises him from around the corner with a tackle-hug

suddenly he's looking up at her from a furry little body and she's running away screaming

child Ezio clumsily slinking his way back to the palazzo on four legs, looking up at his mother with mournful eyes

her scooping him up, "Oh my darling boy, I am so sorry you found out this way."

I read the manga when I was young and watched the earlier anime but I haven’t gotten to watching the new one. also. Wait. Come back. Don't just throw me Fruit Basket and leave. Do you not remember how angsty Fruit Basket can get???

Okay, so, in Fruit Basket, the animals were based on the Chinese Zodiac and there was the whole ‘continuously being reborn for an endless banquet’ curse thing going on but it seemed we’re not going for that vibe? Perhaps, it’s more like the ones with enough Isu DNA can turn into one of the animals in the Chinese Zodiac and it’s really just a roll of the dice (specifically a 12D).

I kinda like the idea of Ezio transforming into the least threatening of his siblings though. Like Federico gets to be an ox, Claudia gets to be a tiger and maybe Petruccio is like a horse or a snake then there’s Ezio being a fluffy sheep. XD

Also, Altaïr would make being the mouse to his stealthily advantage but I kinda wanna make him a white rabbit or a rooster?

Although, we can make it easier for us on what kind of animal they would transform to by actually using their Chinese Zodiac sign:

Altaïr: 1165 - Green Wood Monkey (1165 is the year of the Rooster but Altaïr’s birthday is on January 21, which is before the Chinese New Year, so technically he’s part of the 1164 Year as far as the Chinese Zodiac is concerned)

Ezio: 1459 - Yellow Earth Rabbit

Then we get to Desmond.

If we take his birth year into consideration (1987), he would be a Red Fire Rabbit BUT may I suggest two alternatives instead?

Desmond does not transform at all and everyone assume that means he’s normal (which is a disappointment for Bill because being able to turn into an animal has become an honorable ‘achievement’ in the eyes of the Assassins and Templars) but this is inaccurate. It’s not that he can’t transform, it’s that he doesn’t have to because his curse isn’t the curse of one of the Zodiac animals but the curse of God. And his curse is the need for a connection with someone who can turn into an animal (which must be given to him freely), binding the two of them regardless of the distance of space and time between them.

He transforms into the cat, the animal ostracized and has only been rumored to have appeared once or twice in history. The cat is always locked up because they are seen as unnatural and is one of the main reason why Desmond ran away.

Or a combination of the two where Desmond’s curse is that of the Cat but the main idea is the Cat is the ‘first’ form of the God curse and, only by creating a connection with another animal (willingly) regardless of the distance in time and space could the cat evolve to being God.

YOU CAN ALWAYS ASK ME ABOUT HIM i'm so sorry it took so long to reply i have been so everywhere but i have been meaning to find like sketches and stuff i have around of him :)

collated a bunch of old sketches of his family!! aki was originally going to be a part of a big like. chinese-zodiac inspired thing and his family in particular were the snakes (he's got the character in his last name lol) and him and his siblings all got snake characteristics . there is however nothing new under the sun and even though i thought this was cool my friend was like "oh like fruits basket" and i shelved the idea LOL

in the end he just existed in a vaccum, i had nothing to do with him, before i dragged him out of there with the intention to drop him into a simpler slice-of-life story with a bunch of terrible postgrad students. that story mainly revolves around like.. biomed researchers basically?? aki would have been an ex-STEM student who dropped out because he didn't want to do medicine anymore, but kept in touch with his friends from the course (the other cast might eventually also be forced into IFs LOL)

i eventually completely veered off the zodiac-course and kept his base design and turned those scales into tattoos! he's got more in infamous, but in this universe it's just those snakes winding around his arms!!!! infamous tattoos are kind of not set in stone cause i plan to add more (inspired by the bandmates) and the tattoos are supposed to be based off them!! there was no way he'd stop at just seven's initials, he has a little thing for all of them!!!! bc we're only really two chapters into infamous tho i just want more time to "know" the bandmates and then give more him more tats (i have been reading asks about them and trying to assign stuff LMFMFMFAOOO)

what he has and i consistently draw him w are seven's initials, the snakes (leftover design from the kind of concept he was based off of), lotuses/flowers (could change!! i'm thinking rn that he gets everyone's favorite flower/plant tattooed), wave designs (i'm praying someone's a water sign), and he's also got the opening notes of their first song that they played as a band :)

the original version of him is also based vaguely off a friend i made in uni who did hair/makeup and which i still think is so cool and gave him that !!!! more specifically he sort of dropped out of a good-asian-kid stem course to do this, which freaked his parents out when they realised he was just Leaving to go cut people's hair. aki's pretty great at it, and is lucky enough to work at a good stylist agency <3

kills it at karaoke with his friends in this universe too :) his genuine passion for working as a stylist and love for his job translates into music for infamous, which despite how "i'm-so-cool-and-chill-about-everything" he tries to seem, is his biggest worry. he really really wants to succeed and stick it to his parents, and can't imagine what else he'd ever do. music is all he has and really gets lost in songwriting/singing :)

his stage name akiya is also a reference to the word for abandoned/empty houses in rural areas in japan. they're cheap to buy, but cost a lot to repair and flip. this is a stealth dig at his parents lol but aki passes it off as a portmanteau of his first/last name: he is secretly emo like this </3

also their band name, snakebites, in general is like 1) "what's cool when we are 16 and making this band when we are in high school" and 2) the band's shared birth year being the year of the snake (2001/i'm projecting) (they're still like 25/26 which makes infamous oddly take place in the future for me, 2027ish???) and luckily i don't believe the year it takes place matters to anyone so i'm just going with it <3 don't think about it too hard this is deep lore that only makes sense to me

their fandom name also call themselves snakes, and they lean into this for their promo materials (each member gets a government assigned snake breed) LMFAO !! aki lightly thinks its cringe but it's not hurting anyone, so he just told maya that he thought the name was great LOLLLLL !!! they have a vaguely edgy image because of this (and because ya know. lots of drama surrounding seven leaving) even though they're much more an indie rock band (sounding more like hippo campus, yona yona weekenders, young the giant) with a reputation for being wholesome

there's also a fun game their fans like to play called "using aki's hair, what era of snakebites is this" LOL <3
