Summary of my current thoughts on So I Married the Anti-Fan:
A nonsensical mess of a story, almost saved by the chemistry and charm of its two leads, and the acting skill of many of the supporting players.
Tentatively recommended if you're in the mood for cute enemies-to-lovers het rom-com fluff, and can tolerate a fair amount of plot incoherence and a side helping of some pretty dark stuff that's treated way too lightly.

My may top 5 movies:
Kung Fu Panda trilogy (2008, dir: Mark Osborne, John Stevenson; 2011, dir: Jennifer Yuh Nelson; 2016, dir: Jennifer Yuh Nelson, Alessandro Carloni) [Rewatched the first two after a decade and watched the third for the first time] Listen, I don't know what happened to me or to the world that made me uninterested in these movies somewhere between the second and the third one, but I'm glad that went away because these are actually really good. Like, the animation, the aesthetic, the story: they're all great and enjoyable, and a lot of fun! -
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018, dir: Ol Parker) [Rewatch after five years] The songs are still bangers and a lot of fun, even though this is way more sad than the first one. Wacthing it with friends is even better! -
13 Going on 30 (2004, dir: Gary Winick) [Rewacth after seven years] Still a cute and fun rom-com. The time-travel and the moral consequences of a 13 year-old in her own older body are never even thought about, but that's probably for the best, because I genuinely enjoyed it as a kid, even though I didn't want to grow up. -
Sky High (2005, dir: Mike Mitchell) [Rewatch after more than a decade] Just okay, I remember liking this a lot as a teen, but never seeing it again. Loved the whole character of Warren Peace, his name and his backstory and to be honest I wish the whole thing would have been about him. But still not that bad! -
So I Married an Anti-Fan (2016, dir: Kim Je-young) [First time watch] No idea how I found this, but it was pretty fun. I haven't really written anything on my notebook about it other than "not that bad", and all the letterboxd reviews are about this k-pop idol whom I don't know, I'm so sorry.
Favourite series in may:
Spy x Family (Japan, 2022) [First time watch; anime] A spy needs to infiltrate the family of an important political figure to stop the war between the two prominent regions of his nation, but to do so, he needs to have a wife and a daughter. He finds them in a secret assassin and a mind reader respectively. This anime is so much fun!! It's hilarious and even heartwarming at times. I decided to read the manga as well because I fell in love with the characters so fast. -
Ted Lasso - season 3 (USA, 2023) [First time watch] This series has been a very nice comfort show since I started season 1 last year. I loved how everyone had a character development and I very much enjoyed the positivity and feeling of hope throughout the series and especially in the end. -
Schmigadoon! - Schmicago (USA, 2023) [First time watch] This musical series is still one of the most innovative around and I LOVE the songs and the references to the musicals it parodies. I think I might have enjoyed this second season more than the first because I like more musicals from this era than the ones referenced in season 1. I still wish they will eventually make a thrid season, because if they manage to make parodies of all musical eras, they will have my whole heart, although this had a perfect ending, so I am conflicted on this. -
Dark Blue Kiss (Thailand, 2019) [Rewatch after a year] This was the first Thai series I've ever watched, but I had overrated it, so I decided to revisit it with a better knowledge and some more place for comparison. It turns out that it's still pretty good! Pete and Kao's story and its stupid jealousy, their cute bickering, and Kao's will to come out to him mum but fear of rejection is still very well done. Their breakup phase is still so sad! New's little pouty face should be enough to make people forgive him, especially when Kao didn't do anything outwardly terrible. The communication problem in this couple is still annoying, but the last scene makes up for everything and they have my heart. I'm not the greatest fan of the second couple - when a lot of fans would say the opposite - but I still love fellow Pokémon Go fan Mork and I still think he deserves better, I'm not sorry. -
Quacks (UK, 2017) [First time watch] As usual, six-episodes-long British sitcoms that are about specific time periods were cancelled after one season, and so was this gem. This series was about several doctors working at a Victorian hospital and trying new ways to cure patients. It was very interesting other than pretty funny.

Manhwa~ The Emperor reverses time
Tumblr media
Ok y'all need to get heads up about the FL of this manhwa. Because, She. Will. Frustrate. You.
This is basically a regression story, but opposite gender. Usually the FL is the one who regresses n mostly ends up leaving her lover or husband who mistreated her. Here however, the Emperor after the death of the Empress (ofcourse!) realises both the Empress's love for him and his own feelings for her. And the like the FLs who always get to go back in time as a blessing or apology from God, our ML has to pay a price for the time trip. But he doesn't mind. He vowed to make her the happiest in second chance he got. Mind you, he goes out of his way to do it.
Well, okay. You might say he mistreated her, he deserves it. Agreed. Even up till the 69th chapter, he is ashamed of his past self and is haunted by the then him. He seems to have mental disorders and borderline anxiety issues. He sleeps with a sword under his bed. Oh well.
Now our darling FL. Till the age of 7 or 8 Elizabeth was abused my her parents who tried to make her into a doll fit to become the Empress. She was whipped, forced to wear such tight corsets, that even adult women in the manhwa got horrified upon hearing. The ML, Leon gets her out of the hellhole along with the help of his loving parents. Who proceed to love the heck out of her. She was showered with love, in the palace of the Emperor than in the Duchy palace she lived. She deserved the happiness the Prince (ML), his mother, and his father gave her. At some point she started liking the prince and also felt a bit jealous of the fact that the little prince had what she could never have, namely parents and their vast love. She kind of avoids him until he fesses up.
Ok...
Fast forward to them in their teens, now her issue is that she loves him. She is okay with saying her feelings out for him, but afraid of getting rejected so kind of keeps it to herself. Typical red flag habit in manhwa characters. Ik it's for the plot, but I'm kinda done with this one trope. Anyway she confesses, and the ML is scared. Like obviously, duh. He literally reversed time just so she could be happy. What was the guarantee that he could keep her happy, of he couldn't in last timeline? Could he even keep her happy? Would he take away her beautiful smile? While the ML was confused about all this, with devastated expression on his face, the FL, Lizzie was quick to misunderstand him and also quick to think of cancelling their engagement. Leaving the ML, even more vexed if possible. Great move, honey. She mentally corners him, honestly, until again he confesses about his feelings. Twice. Not to mention he was taking care of an age old contract that appeared out of nowhere, which held a lot of sus stuff about ancient marriages that had been happening between the ML & FL's family. Power politics. Add an unknown brother of the FL with not so good intentions and his parents' life almost in danger to the mix, and voila! i say the ML has pretty much suffered whatever the FL had in her past life.
Does it end there?
Hell nah!
She wants to know everything he keeps a secret from her. Wanted to know about the contract, and although it was sort of a test that the Father Emperor gave to the prince to check whether he would be a good Emperor, the FL is the one who solves it, without even telling the ML. um... 😶
Another woman appears. This lady is also good friends with the Empress. But. But, her family is rebelling and to protect her best friend from a different but less popular family, she takes it upon herself to act like double agent for the prince and her father. Like Im still tryna figure out this woman. But that's not the issue.
Our wonderful FL, Lizzie, is jealous. But she won't admit it. Nope. Instead, she just assumes. And misunderstands. Who's surprised again? ik I'm not.
Like gahhhhhh!
She proceeds to think of cancelling the whole damn marriage this time. The vibes i got of her character were that, she herself is unsure whether she seriously loves Leon, but just assumes and refuses to change the beliefs and assumptions that she has about Leonhart.
Frustrating, i tell you.
And since he's taken an oath to make her happy, as you can guess, every time she threatens him with the relationship card and the happiness card, he will withdraw.
Y'all if this was villainess, we'd be calling her something entirely different, alright?! Like this woman really bottles up stuff, instead of talking it out. She will talk with the ML's mother but nop openly, maybe more.
With ML? yeah right.
The way I see it (I haven't completed it. i reached chapter 69, n just had to vent) he is quite close to being carted off to the psych ward.
My problem with the FL's character isn't even the wishy washy dainty girl attitude, it's the way she's manipulating the ML without even realising it. And she knows at this point, that all she needs to do for him to react is, give a fake smile (ML has trauma from her fake smile from the original life when he remembers it), look miserable, and then try to look like she's holding it together, and finally do the age old trick of squeezing out some tears.
Really. The FL of this one puts me off so much. She is such a sweet girl, when she wants to be.

SO I MARRIED AN ANTI-FAN
GENRES: Comedy, Romance
SUMMARY: The quintessential enemies-to-lovers story with a heaping dose of a rich boy/poor, quirky girl who loves to eat romance. Oh, and he’s a pop star, too.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Failed teokbokki restaurants, evil bosses, debut drama, skinny jeans, chicken dinners, shoe throwing, bad driving, high school runaways, mild attractions, stolen laptops, and the same damn OST single repeated over and over again.
HOT TAKE: I’ll admit, I originally only started watching this show because I mistook Chansung for Joo Ji Hoon in the show poster. Now, between this drama and Bo Ra! Deborah, he will always be the CEO boyfriend you love to loathe.
Did I love this drama? No. Did I ship the main characters? Not really. Did I even ship the second leads? Hell no. Maybe I kept watching because I wanted to root for everyone to eventually find their best selves. Maybe I was just looking for a drama filler between simulcasts.

I’m watching k-drama of So I married an anti-fan. They changed a lot of things. Ngl the drama feels more natural but some of developments are skipped. I like how there is no second ml in romantic sense in drama
It is like an alternative universe of the manhwa.
I’d rather have them keep Who Joon running up 25 floors just because he thought FL got hurt by the comments after the initial trailer is released. + FL taking care of his injury after JJ hit him. However, JJ beating up Joon like in manhwa was unrealistic so drama did that better. + Joon and FL staying in the balcony during rain because set people got into the apartment in that moment in manhwa. + Joon sometimes staying over at the house FL stays. Them having drinks together earlier and bonding. + Joon meeting FL’s friends who were also worried about her state after the trailer. + I don’t remember FL putting vitamins in ML’s drink who were pulling a prank to FL without knowing the vitamin thing in manhwa. This resulted in FL looking like an idiot and someone with grudge in the drama
The changes I liked in the drama: JJ not beating Joon up to the point of serious injuries while Joon not doing anything. In drama, it’s only one punch and Joon pushes JJ back. + JJ’s girlfriend having more backbone in drama + FL not standing in the rain like an idiot in Japan tour (it’s Hong Kong in manhwa and she stands under rain while ml talks with his ex) + FL not having a crush on ML’s manager. He is more of a big bro there. + FL getting more reaction because of ML’s crazy fans. The manhwa version was very light compared to drama.
The ones I’m so-so about: JJ not having peacock hair. + ML not having black hair. + ML is good looking but manhwa version was sexy.
The manhwa’s latest chapters (50s) is around episode 6 of the drama. It consists of 16 episodes in total. So I think the manhwa will be around 150 chapters
What are your k-drama suggestions for based on manhwas?

Watching "So I married an Anti Fan" was actually pretty addicting, it reminds of the time when I was reading teen romance stories from wattpad 🫣 First two episodes are not my cup of tea, but for me it picks up from there and I just knew that I was already binge-watching it. Had the writing in the end got better and resolved the side conflict earlier (and didn't made it the main plot in the end) and instead focused on the relationship of the leads and program itself, it would be way way lovely and humorous. And if the acting was even better, it would be a truly an addicting rewatchable romcom.

The other reason I started watching True to Love, after the gifset of the beautiful Yoon Hyun Min sent me looking for the trailer, is that in that trailer I caught sight of Hwang Chan Sung, who I found possibly too good for his role in So I Married [The/An] Anti Fan. I'm curious to see what he's like as another character.

So I Married an Anti-fan
Tumblr media
It has been a minute. I am finally writing again. I have lost all motivations to write and just watch movies and series without thinking of writing the reviews. I am trying to get back to writing but it’s been hard. As usual, I’m going to talk a bit about the series here before jumping in to the ratings. It was a wholesome series and I love how they are communicating well in the series, but there are still things to talk about.
Score
Storyline : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (7/10)
Plot : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (7/10)
Pace : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (9/10)
Acting : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (10/10)
Rewatch value : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (8/10)
I would recommend this series to people who are looking for a lightweight romance. It has little comedy, a little family content, and just overall wholesome. I mean, it's not going to be a kdrama without tears, right? So yeah there are going to be some teary moments, but not too bad that you'd get annoyed with them. This series was not on my radar and was never going to be on my radar until I saw a Tumblr post talked about how the couple in this drama know how to communicate well and then I was immediately sold.
Anyway, back to the kdrama at hand. People who have read my previous review posts might know that I rarely watch romance kdrama because I can't deal with the whiny female character and the plain toxic male character. I love how both main characters (mcs) in this series are good people (well, essentially). Sure they have their huge misunderstandings and hate each other's gut at first but they also have conscience and can emphatise and sympathise well with each other. They are likeable as humans, that is what I was trying to say, really. The series itself is no brainer, there was no complicated arc that begged to be solved. The character developments were good, not just for the mcs, but for all the people involved in the story. So I thoroughly enjoyed the watching experience. While the ending gave me a little satisfaction (kdramas need to improve their endings) it still needs a lot of work to resolve and conclude everything that I have watched from episode one to the last. It didn’t feel like a cliffhanger but I didn’t feel resolved either.
Storyline
Geun-yeong (GY) is a hard-working journalist but her boss treated her unfairly until one day she was assigned to attend a press conference (of some sort) for a kpop star, Hu-jun (HJ). Upon meeting, both parties have quite a good impression towards each other. Of courser until a drunk GY stumbled upon a secret meeting between HJ and another girl. After a huge misunderstanding happened, GY ,who is a hot-headed woman, threw one of her shoes at HJ face and GY action went viral. GY got fired from her workplace and asked HJ to make things right so she can get her job back (by protesting outside HJ agency). HJ refused to acknowledge the whole thing until a reality tv producer/director approached him. The same producer/director approached GY and offer her a huge amount of money (she was in a dear need of them). Reluctantly she agreed and it was a whole drama about convincing HJ to join as well. Well the reality tv is about GY and HJ living together in a house as a married couple. Marriage is not something that two people who hate each other usually think as a problem-solver. The story evolved from that and more and more problems came their way, work-wise, and other family/friends problems.
Characters
HJ is a hard-working man. He's a person that does not forget where he came from. Very dedicated person and you'll just love them as a kpop star. He is also a good friend but just don't betray him because he can outsmart you. He has a very complicated background (family and friends), so the story mostly revolve around this. They are the ones who bring problems to him.
GY is a really nice and kind girl. She is a yes man at some point, but she can actually stand her ground once she finds herself being cornered or treated poorly. I like that about her. She is also closed to her parents and is really wholesome with them. I love their interaction with each other, typical parents and daughter relationship. She also has a round of supportive friends. Very sweet, cute, and reliable friends I might add.
HJ's friends (JJ and In-hyung) are problematics. They were close with each other but business happened, this is why i always said never mix business with friendship. A lot people find In-hyung annoying, but I don't. I just think that she's very lost and just need to get the hell away from everything. She is always fighting a losing battle, so I think she just needs to find other dreams because we can't have everything in life, right? I did not mean she should give up, she just need to find other things first before getting back to being a kpop star. To be honest, contrary to other people, I find JJ annoying. Why can't he just get off everyone's ass and let go of his grudges. It was toxic and unhealthy for him haha.
GY's friends are as cute as I said in the beginning, I need to find more friends like them, so supportive. Lovely.
GY and HJ's families are different and HJ's fam is quite nonexistent so that means HJ has more family problems than GY. It is so sad that this man has so many problems in his life and GY and his work are the only steady presence in his life.
Where to watch
