Ok, this is probably quite a big question so Tell me if you want me to specify more. Currently, im a democratic socialist. Why do you consider anarchism to be a better functioning system then democratic socialism ? I don't want to pressure you to write An entire book or Something. Just a few reasons is fine.
I know, I do tend to write out some lengthy responses. Y’all’s questions are just way too good!
I also used to be a democratic socialist (the democratic socialism as a means to communism way) and a hardcore pacifist. I was largely inspired and radicalised by Jeremy Corbyn, and his election loss just radicalised me further. I am now neither a democratic socialist (obviously) nor a pacifist (and if folks want me to talk about why I’m against pacifism, let me know).
From a purely philosophical perspective, anarchism posits that democratic socialism is doomed to fail because you can’t obliterate hierarchies (and, by extension, class hierarchies) through a system which is inherently hierarchical. This is a logical product of the anarchist theory of history, which argues that hierarchical systems are self correcting systems of domination which exist to preserve themselves; that the only way to end hierarchies is to uproot and destroy them.
Democratic socialism aims to achieve socialism through representative democracy, which, it is posited by anarchists, is anti-democratic, since it can only, at best, support the will of large majorities. It is also susceptible (and currently controlled by) capitalist interests. Capitalist powers can and do use their financial and social capital to dominate media narratives and societal tendencies to their own end. Capitalists do not sit idly by whilst their interests are curtailed, particularly if you live in a financial centre like England or the United States. They shift public perspectives against those pushing change until political leaders are forced to toe the line of their formerly supportive constituents. Remember when people were celebrating AOC being elected to the House of Representatives, only for her to almost immediately start falling back to the imperialist line?
Politicians, furthermore, are forced to compromise their beliefs lest their ideas get completely blocked by opposition bodies, even with considerable party majorities. We see this time and time again with decidedly progressive policy reform getting watered down until they are almost unrecognisably different. (There’s a reason the trans community has such a lean toward the radical left.) As Kropotkin talks about in the Conquest of Bread, these politicians which are constantly blocked and curtailed are eventually forced to change their base positions until proper socialist reform is impossible. Quite literally right where the capitalists need them to be.
Liberal democracy exists by and for the capitalists. Democratic socialist reform is quite literally impossible within it.

A series of occupational factional differences between the SocDems and Ancoms in Light Era, from 2021.
Commentary (and bonus memery) below.
I think that a lot of independent sci-fi projects I see around aren't very compelling to me because I find they re-tread the same ground. Especially after being a moderator of the largest online worldbuilding community for about two years, eventually you get tired of seeing the same re-hashed discussions and "explorations" of space travel, biomedical science, militaries, that sort of thing. I'm no less guilty, but I figured I might as well try to push it in new directions.
For background, in Light Era, the Terrans are largely split into two large factional groups: the Social Democrats are a urban, industrious, highly technocratic, let's-build-some-cool-stuff people, whereas the Anarcho-Communists are far more relaxed, go-with-the-flow, communal, and almost luddite-like by contrast. There's more to them than that, which I will get to in the future, but that's a workable distinction for now.
I didn't want the factions to be identity politik excuses for conflict like I see in a lot of other scifi works, where each faction is kind of just a shallow superficial vessel with a name and flag. I tried to explore the implications of each faction's doctrine in the way the people live their lives in them instead, and really focus on their philosophies as legitimate cultural artefacts. It seems to be a success, since this is one of the most well-received series of worldbuilding art I've done so far.
I encourage other worldbuilders to take a step back and try this method too. It's harder than just making United League of Space NATO Federation again, I know, but give it a try—I promise your work will be richer as a result.
Anyway, as promised, dorky memery:

Was it worth it? Probably not. But you've come this far!

Trans People are an oppressed group of people who are getting legislated "out of existence". They are being legislated out of sports. They are being legislated out of bathrooms. There is legislation denying them gender affirming care. They are still being discriminated against for employment. They are still being discriminated against for housing. The Rightwing and Reactionaries want to control how Trans People dress and present (what do you think the Drag Bans were about). So why are we still having conversations that Trans People do not exist. If they do not exist, why is the Rightwing so viciously cracking down on them? We have seen Trans People of every race, ethnicity, sex, etc. These people exist. And they are in danger. The Rightwing is going on a full war to erase/eradicate Trans People. The truth is Trans People will always exist (just like Gay People will always exist), but they are being actively oppressed and harmed. This wave of anti-trans legislation and anti-trans rhetoric will lead to suppression of their identity ("being closeted"), will lead to Trans People committing Suicide, will lead to Trans People & Allies being imprisoned, and will lead to Hate Crimes. Whether Anarchist, Communist, Socialist, Social Democrat, Moderates, Liberals, etc. You need to be advocating for and protecting Trans People.

I noticed that over the years there are 3 types of ancoms/anarcho syndicalists. *
*I use those terms interchangeably because they have the same flag. They look the same to me tbh.
Here they are:
Actually, principled ancom/anarcho syndicalist.
Closet tankie: They hate capitalism more than the state and tend to be apologists for a lot of socialist dictatorships.
Anarcho-social democrat: A socdem that just wants an edgy aesthetic. They will huff and puff about how edgy they are but when you really press them on what they want they just want social democracy like Sweden.

So, where do you fall on Leftism spectrum? I sure hope not believing in left armament or successful uprising disqualifies me from being futher left than a liberal.
oh this is a complicated question, but in short not wanting a violent revolution doesn't make you not a leftist, it just makes you not an idiot. My view of leftism is that it is about protecting human rights, which is my first priority. I think my leftism boils down to the following points
Liberalism: Negative Freedoms, aka Civil Liberties, protections against government tyranny
Examples: Right to free speech, Freedom of religion, equality before the law, right to a fair trial, habitus Corpus, innocence until proven guilty, warrant any sort of limit on state power
Socialism: Positive freedoms, aka things the government needs to provide to all citizens
Examples: Free education, Free housing, Free Healthcare, free food, land redistribution, free clothing, free lawyers, free support ect
Progressivism, aka Civil Rights, things to protect citizens from other Citizens, mostly in terms of opposing bigotry. So policies that fight back against racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, xenophobia, nativism, religious intolerance, anti Semitism and antiquated cultural norms.
Democratic Republican (not the political party like pro Democracy) Pro Democracy: Democracy is the best government system that we have and the more proportional a democracy the better, we need to remove most authoritarian power structures. democracy should be designed to resist corruption and graft form the ground up
Examples: Ranked Choice voting, abolish the Senate, lower the voting age, popular election of Presidents, term limits, abolish gerrymandering, limit the Supreme Court
Green: Oh dear god, please make the environment less horrible we are going to die
Examples: AHHHHHHHHHHH
I generally think that leftists must balance all 5 of those, if not, its not leftism i want, intersectionality is the name of the game
now within Leftism I am a huge statist, I think the State is the most effective tool for implementing these policies, and the most powerful tool for the left (i also have a low opinion on human nature) I am anti utopian, I am pro intellectual and anti conspiracy theory
So I think that makes me a Progressive Social Democrat, since "humanist" isn't a political party (except in disco Elysium)

Demolatrist - One who venerates or idolizes democracy to an excessive degree at the cost of individual rights and freedoms.
The root "demos" refers to the people or democracy. The suffix "-latrist" indicates someone who worships or idolizes something. So a "demolatrist" suggests someone who reveres democracy like a religion, even when it infringes on personal liberties or natural rights. #Demolatrist [See: Demolatrist] #MorPolitics

Portuguese Democratic Alliance triumphs in elections
The Democratic Alliance, led by the Social Democrats, defeated the Socialist Party for the first time in eight years, but its chances of forming a majority remained slim, according to euronews.
The Democratic Alliance, led by the Social Democrats, won 79 seats in the 230-seat National Assembly, Portugal’s Parliament, after all votes were counted. Meanwhile, the Socialist Party, which has been in power for the past eight years, received 77 seats.
The decisive votes will now come from abroad to allocate the last four seats in parliament, with the counting likely to take more than a fortnight.

Review of Naomi Klein's No Logo.
Written by Ashton Deroy Some of this I knew, but I will give any author a 5-star review if they teach me something. I did not know about Free Trade Zones. I was already pretty anti-Libertarian but I am glad I heard about this. I can use this source to show that Small Government is merely corporate tyranny. We are past the days when Small Government is realistic & will bring dignity or prosperity…
