You know what? I don’t WANT an awkward double date. I don’t WANT buck coming out and people having the ‘I know’ reaction or the ‘is it Eddie’ reaction.
You know what I do want?
I want Buck panicking over what to wear for the date. I want Buck flopping on his bed like very teenager after their first kiss all giggly and happy and touching his lips because he kissed a boy
I want Buck smiling every time he says Tommy’s name because maybe it isn’t forever and maybe he’s not even looking for forever anymore but he’s so happy and he’s so light and being with Tommy feels good
I want Tommy to keep calling him Evan, because before Buck was Buck he was Evan and Evan deserves to be happy to be treated so softly and lovingly and Evan deserves to be free.
I want Buck to be happy. To be happy and free and queer in the way we all deserve.

I don't think I will ever NOT think about this gif right here and let me tell you why.
Tumblr media
Buck is trying so hard to deflect any positive emotion in this situation because he still feels immense guilt for "losing" Chris. Even though it all worked out in the end, he hasn't forgiven himself for it and doesn't think he ever will.
Then we have Eddie. The way Eddie follows Buck's eyes no matter how hard he tries to avert his gaze. He knows exactly what Buck is doing and he will NOT let him deflect this. He doesn't stop until their eyes meet. He needs Buck to know that's it's okay and that it's not his fault. He's following Buck's movements and forcing him to lock eyes with him.
Eddie is doing everything in his power to let Buck know that Chris is okay. He is okay. They are okay.

"I guess it's just me that makes you nervous then," Tommy teases, gentle as anything, and suddenly everything inside Buck just settles.
This is flirting. This is something he knows how to do, man or not. Because he likes Tommy. Thinks, terrifyingly, that he might like Tommy more than he's ever liked anyone he's dated before. Which is a lot, probably, to think on a first date. But Tommy's looking at him with an endless patience and warmth that Buck feels in every inch of him. It's easy not to worry then.
"I don't know if nervous is the right word," Buck murmurs, heat rising in his cheeks.
"Oh, yeah?" Tommy quirks a smile at him, whole face lighting up with it like he's seen the tension melt out of Buck all at once.
"Mm." Buck nods, takes a sip of beer without looking away from Tommy's deep eyes. "Flustered, maybe." He ducks his head when Tommy's grin only grows brighter. "Giddy." He tangles their feet together under the table, the rest of the room fading away. "A little like a schoolkid with their first crush."
"Well, that explains all the pigtail pulling," Tommy retorts, leaning back in his seat and folding his arms over his chest. Buck lets himself look at the bulge of his biceps, big, bigger than Buck's even, mouth-watering apparently, lets himself appreciate them for a moment.
"You're not gonna let me live that down, are you?"
"Oh, come on, Evan." Tommy snorts. "Think I get to lord that over you for a little while. If not for myself, then on Eddie's behalf at least."
"A little while, huh?" Buck redirects them, something seizing in his chest at the mention of Eddie's name. He falls back into a familiar move, looks up at Tommy from under his eyelashes and watches the man smile like he just can't help it. "You thinking of keeping me around then? Even with all the..." He waves his hand at himself, a gesture to the embarrassing ally word vomit that he'd dropped on him just moments ago.
"This is new to you." Tommy shrugs. "Wasn't expecting you to be a real Casanova first time around."
"Casanova," Buck repeats gleefully, beaming when Tommy rolls his eyes and blushes just ever so slightly.
"Anyway, as I was saying," he emphasises. "First date was never going to be smooth sailing. Only fair I get to take you out again. Practice makes perfect and all."
"Sounds pretty perfect," Buck says. And what he doesn't say is: I don't think this is practice, I think this is the real thing.

i'm torn between wanting buck and eddie to have a full-blown fight where they scream and yell and shove at each other because they just don't get it huh like they really don't get it OR wanting them to have a quiet soft conversation on the kitchen floor because they're both just tired of pretending that they don't know what this actually is OR if i want the fighting first and then the soft conversation help

We've always seen Tommy as confident, reliable, and steady. I can totally picture him being there for people he loves and cares for when they need him, but what happens when he has a bad day?
I think that Tommy is used to fixing things on his own: when he has a bad day he mopes while watching a fight, or does some Muay Thai, or spends time in his garage to distract himself. He licks his wounds on his own, and that's it: tomorrow is another day, he plasters a smile on his face and goes back to work.
He has friends now (Eddie, Chimney, Hen) but he's not used to asking for help, so he doesn't. And he has Buck, too, but he doesn't want to burden him with his problems so when he has a bad day and they hang out he pretends to be okay, maybe he's a bit more clingy than usual but nothing more than that.
Except that Buck knows him now, so he can feel that something is wrong and eventually tells him something like "you can tell me anything, you know that, right?" and Tommy's taken aback because of course he knows but no one has ever been there for him before, not like that. And so he just throws himself into Buck's arms and for a bit he stops being the strong, confident, steady man he is and lets himself be held and reassured.
He loves taking care of people he loves - and he's so good at that - but with Buck he's learning that let his boyfriend taking care of him is so damn good, too.

Buck: C'mon Eddie, write the letter so Chris sees we also believe in Santa.
Eddie, reading the letter out loud: Fine. Dear Santa, I'm writing this letter to let you know I have been naughty...
Buck: Where are you going with this?
Eddie: And it was worth it, because the punishment and aftercare Buck gives me would make you blush, you judgemental bastard.

You know how I want Buddie to happen? Softly. Lovingly. Quietly. Like, maybe they're spending the day together. In the kitchen, cooking together (buck is teaching eddie a new dish, his hands guiding, teasing him when eddie cuts the ingredients haphazardly) or cleaning up (washing dishes and passing it to be dried, eddie humming gently, a song that buck can't recognise but feels familiar and it makes him feel warm with fondness from head to toe) and their fingers barely touch and they make eye contact and just... everything stops around them.
It's just BuckandEddie in this small bubble they've created for themselves. And there's a million things flickering in their eyes but eventually, they smile softly at each other, knowingly, and then they break the eye contact and continue what they're doing. After they're done, both of them lean in close, brush their nose together, and share a kiss. It's sweet and short and they're both smiling. And then they move on like nothing happened. But they go to work tomorrow, and everyone knows something did and they just stare at each other from across the table letting hen and chim's questions float around them and ignoring bobby's raised eyebrows and they share a smile, soft and knowing and chim and hen absolutely lose it, chim is already dialing maddie and hen has whipped out her betting pool book and Buck laughs and Eddie ducks his head shyly. It's pretty telling.

shoot another shot (try to stop the feeling) | 5k
eddie gets drunk and cuts a little too loose, buck tries to pick up the pieces and ends up getting more than he anticipated, tommy just knows
"Evan, he's fine," Tommy tells him yet again. It could be the fifth time tonight he's said it, but Buck is no closer to believing him than he was when this bachelor party started.
Buck just hums distractedly in response, eyes tracking Eddie as he slips out of a heated debate between Hen and Chim to shoot three shots at the bar. He's lost count of exactly how many times Eddie has sneaked in a secret shot between the rounds of drinks they're all splitting, but he knows for a fact this is the drunkest Eddie has ever been since Buck's known him. Eddie is wild and loose in a way that is terrifyingly unfamiliar to Buck. It settles like an itch under his skin, tries to drag something out of the back of his head that he can't quite get a solid grip on.
"He's just cutting loose," Tommy adds placatingly. "Let the guy have some fun."
Buck bristles at this, biting down on something that tastes a lot like the rubber of a basketball.
"No, Tommy." Buck turns back to his boyfriend—his boyfriend!!!!—with that nervous thrum of energy in his chest that usually sticks there in the few moments when he thinks a rescue is about to turn ugly. "I don't think that's what's happening. I wish it was." God, does he wish. If there is one man in the world deserving of letting loose and having pure, uncomplicated fun, it's Eddie. "You have no idea how much I wish it was, but I..." Buck sighs and glances back just in time to watch Eddie join Albert and Ravi on the dancefloor. "I know when he's pretending."
You don't have to pretend with me. Except Eddie does anyway, even if he knows that Buck will know he's pretending. It's some inescapable dance of theirs, a ritual that only ever pre-empts disaster.
"Okay." Tommy sets his beer down, nudges Buck's knee with his own to regain his attention. Buck looks back into the face of Tommy's gentle understanding and blushes just a little at the unwavering trust there. "Talk me through it."

AU where Tommy never was in the army, but joined police school and then quickly ended swat academy, soon becoming the youngest sergeant and some years after that the youngest team leader. He was in closet till almost 30s still. And then when he's 35 he meets 27 year old Buck, who is going on pt after crush injury, to the same person Tommy goes after being shot in the hand. They always have time to catch after Buck's appointment before Tommy's, drinking coffee and laughing together about calls they had, and when Tommy eventually ends his appointments way before Buck, he, because of the job and bad break up, eventually stops texting, and Buck who's trapped with all start of s3 problems just decides not to add more pain and disappoinment about finding out why. So they lost each other till Tommy is the one to be the swat officer who will see how this "crazy kid"(he doesn't know it's buck as they were late to the call) do the stunt to save person from the crane. Then he sees it's Buck and all the things he wanted to say to him about how he should have wait till swat will control the situation dies on his lips, because Buck look so much better than year and a half before, but he also has dead look in his eyes. Tommy for hours thinks about texting him at night and then he sees another news about Eddie being shot and sees Buck saving him but also hears that Eddie is Buck's partner from 118. He texts Buck
"if you want to talk to someone who knows what is like to see your teammate being shot, I'm here"
"it's Tommy btw. SWAT officer. we were talking during our PTs"
"do you have time for beer at the (bar name)?"
Tommy smiles feeling happy just a little that Evan answered him
"yeah. See you there in 30?"
And they start going out as friends until one day Tommy kisses him on the kitchen and asks him out
