Head empty with zero thoughts other than imagining like having a little parents/careers day in the class, and matty comes in, guitar in hand and does a little sing song circle 🥹
oh this is so so good, I love it
Annie comes bounding out of the classroom one day with a flyer in her hand and immediately sprints towards matty shouting "DADDY!!!"
he was holding a can of coke but has to promptly drop it and catch his daughter hurtling towards him. luckily, he quickly catches her with a grunt.
you come running up behind her in an attempt to stop her jumping into mattys arms, clearly just a few seconds too late. Panting you say to matty, "Sorry! I knew she was excited, but I didn't anticipate that! as soon as I saw her running, I knew what was happening. and I knew you'd have your can of coke, so I tried to help. clearly speed isn't my strong suit, " you say sheepishly, bent over, trying to get your breath back.
soon you catch yourself and realise something; matty is currently looking very hot, and right now, you're red-faced and panting like a dog. you shoot up and smile, trying to play it off.
matty clearly catches onto your attempt to act casual. but mercifully, he leaves you alone and shoots you that dazzling smile that weakens your knees.
"You've noticed my Coca-Cola habit?" he couldn't resist a small bit of teasing.
you begin to stutter, but little Annie Healy saves the day and starts chatting, "daddy! there's a day where you come in and talk about your job!!! can uncle Adam, uncle George and uncle Ross come too??" she's talking animatedly with her hands, a habit you've noticed in matty too.
"woah munchkin that sounds like so much fun! when is it?" matty says tickling her stomach with one hand and grinning wildly at her raucous laughter.
"oh don't worry about coming Mr. Hea- sorry Matty" he'd corrected you about 40 times at this point but still you slipped up, "I know you're probably crazy busy with your band and tour and everything!" you say shaking your head.
obviously, you wanted him there, but also, you don't know if you could handle him looking hot and playing guitar in your classroom. the dreams you'd been having about him were already far beyond the scope of what's appropriate, and seeing that would not help.
"Oh, you know I'm going on tour?" matty says, smirking. You look like a dear in headlights - knowing you'd been caught doing some light Instagram stalking. but once again, annie the angel saved you.
"no daddy I told Miss y/n about it! I told her you're gonna get me presents in every country!!" Annie says, nodding assuredly.
"Oh, every country? is that right? I'm not sure I remember saying that?" matty teases Annie, who looks offended at his suggestion.
"Sorry to interrupt this very important conversation," you tease, "but just letting you know the parents' day is next Friday, please feel free to come if you can! I'm sure the kids would love a performance. "
matty nods and says, "I'll be there," obviously accompanied by a cheeky wink because it's matty.
as he's walking away you shout at him, "just... choose your songs carefully... I'm not sure the parents would love an impromptu performance of love it if we made it..." with a cheeky smile you spin on your heel and walk away.
matty is laughing at your words as you fight the urge to turn around and see his reaction.
/////////
cut to parents day, you were up late trying to find the perfect outfit. insisting it was for all the parents... not just matty.
he strolls in, guitar case in hand, looking amazingly causal and mind numbingly attractive.
you make eye contact from across the room and try not to swoon at his wave, scolding yourself for acting like a teenager over something so simple.
he sits in the back with the rest of the parents listening to you talk. He loved watching you in your element, keeping the kids entertained and making subtle jokes for the parents.
After a little bit, it's finally his turn. You introduce him and embarrass him a little by calling him a rockstar, loving the way his cheeks colour once you said it.
matty comes up, assures everyone he is not a rockstar and tella them he's here to play a few songs, "now if you know any of my bands music I'm just going to quickly assure you, I'm not signing any of those songs. I'm not too sure this is my ideal audience"
you stifle a laugh at the back of the room, and matty shoots you a look, tilted head with a sly smirk resting on his face.
he sings a few songs (i can't think of appropriate songs rn- you fill in the blank lol), and you stand there with a hand on your chest and heart eyes the whole time.
soon enough, everyone is clapping, and you quickly realised you had zoned out, and matty had finished signing. you shoot up and start clapping just a few beats too late.
Your behaviour was not missed by matty, who had to put his head down to hide his laughter. luckily, he could pass it off as being shy at the all the attention.
after everyone else had finsihed you send the kids and parents out to the playground to run around whilst you clean up your room a little bit.
"need a little help?" you scream at the voice before turning around and breathing a sigh of relief at matty.
he's giggling to himself and you slap him lightly, "don't laugh! I'm very easily scared okay!"
he holds his hands up in surrender, "Okay! okay! anyway, my offer still stands - you want some help? Annie is out there entertaining a crowd, so I figured I'd slip away"
"ah like father like daughter then I see" you tease, "I would love some help, thanks matty" you smile and begin fixing the chairs and tables.
After a bit of silent work matty chimes in, "you know that's the first time you've ever called me matty without almost saying Mr. Healy first"
"Oh... yeah, I'm just getting comfortable with you, I guess. " You smile over at him, and he looks up too, locking eyes with you.
and for a beat, you're both stood there- eyes locked, softly smiling at one another.
you think matty's eyes dart down to your lips at one point, but that can't be right.
before long, a kid comes bounding in distracting you, and then matty gets dragged back out onto the playground by Annie.
you don't get a proper goodbye. But through the window of the classroom, you catch each other's eyes and wave, both trying to act completely casually but beaming internally.
blurb masterlist here!!

I love you Karl Jacobs. I love your cheek to cheek smile. I love how your giggles cause me to giggle. I love your sense of style that never ceases to amaze me. I love your curly brown hair that frames your head just right at a certain length. I love how bright and clear your eyes get at certain lighting. I love how expressive you are. I love how you are unapologetic about your loves and interests and hobbies, like watching cartoons and playing yugioh. I love how you openly wear things like rings and nail polish even though its not "masculine". I love how you aren't afraid to show people you love them by always hugging them and being close. I love how you let out your toxic gamer moments at the wildest of times. I love how you try to include multiple people in your lobbies so everyone can have fun and talk with friends. I love how, even though you often plan more projects then you can physically do and can get busy at times, you try your best to give us at least one stream to enjoy. I love you, Karl Jacobs and I wish you really know how much we appreciate you 💜

Lil Mario Movie hc:
The life savings that Mario and Luigi used for the commercial was Luigis savings for Marios top surgery.
Here's a "small" fic on how I imagine it went down (warning my writing isn't the best but I tried):
Luigi went out to get some lunch at Punch Out Pizzeria to celebrate the start of his and his brothers own plumbing business. He's getting the usual, their favorite, one half with red pepper and the other with green pepper. While Luigi is out, Mario decided to stay home and clean up their room. He sorta got carried away and made it messy from working on stuff for their business. Mario tided up his side of the room, then he went for Luigis side. He tided up his bed a bit, cleaned up near his bed, and then looked under his bed. He moved his hand around so he could feel around and see if theres anything he missed. He then touched something. It felt metallic and round. He thought it was something he missed, like a pipe or some sort of tool. He reached for it, grabbed it, and it was a lot heavier then expected. He dragged it out from under the green bed. There he held a big jar of dollars and coins. The money and jar glimmered like rare diamonds in a dark cave. He put the jar on Luigis bed and put himself on there. Mario grabbed the shiny, heavy jar and sorta spun it around, looking around for something. "Mario, I got us food!" a voice yelled. Mario could hear loud footsteps from afar coming closer and closer. He didn't have time to hide the jar nor go to his bed as the bedroom door swung open by a very thrilled Luigi. "I got us our-" he stopped. His eyes widened and what went from a very happy face to a very shocked face, like he got caught. "Why the face? It's just some saved money, right?" Mario asked. He got up from the bed and walked over to Luigi with the jar in his hands. "Yeah but-" "We could use this for a commercial!", Mario interrupted, "We can get word around of our business!!" Luigi did a little worried smile, a smile that only Mario can understand. "Why the smile? What's wrong?" Mario asked. Luigi started twiddling his fingers. "Well, I started saving the money during our time in Wrecking Crew. I started saving,, for you." Luigi said with a low voice. "What do you mean? I got everything I want! We finally got our business started and we ain't working for that ass any-" "It's for your,, chest area." Luigi interrupted. "I remember you talking about how much the binder isn't the best for you or how much it hurts your chest during our time at Wrecking Crew or,, how much your chest didn't feel right,, on you. I felt bad, considering that I didn't know how to help or what to do. So I did some research and saw some folks talk about getting their chest completely removed, making it flat! And I thought about how happy that would make you." Luigi then made a big smile as he went on, "no more aching chest or no more feeling uncomfortable! No more wearing that binder!.." He sorta trailed off as he looked at Marios eyes. They were very shiny. Shiny like the sun reflecting off of an ocean. Suddenly, water. Luigi got startled when he saw tears flow from Marios eyes. "Ah! I'm so sorry! I didn't know if this was a touchy subject or not! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to make you cry!" He started to wipe the tears away as he started to tear up a little. He didn't like to see his big brother cry. Once the tears were gone, a smile appeared. Mario took a small deep breath. He reached his arms out and gave Luigi a hug. With his head against Luigi's chest, he could hear his heart racing. He started to pat and rub Luigis back to calm him down. Luigi hugged him back. "I promise that one day I, no we, will get what's right for me." Mario said. "Let's use what we have to get our business widespread. I'm sure we'll be rich and famous and rule the world one day with our business." Mario said with a smile. Luigi gave a soft smile in response. A few days go by, filled with planning their commercial and counting the saved money. They had nearly $500 for the commercial and they were very wise with their spending.
Aaand idk how to end this, hope you enjoyed :) again I ain't the best but it was worth a shot

hi okay i just followed u and i actually would love to hear if u have recs or thoughts on the other spectrum of lantern rings bc i saw ur one post abt the red lanterns and. tbh i do not know much abt them. or any of the colors really? but u also seem like u’ve read a lot of them and i do actually want to get back into reading comics so i figured i’d ask!
i am like… weirdly invested in the emotional spectrum & all the different lantern corps as a concept and have actually been wanting to make a sort of "intro" post to all of it for a while now, so thank you for finally giving me an excuse!
not really gonna get into any of my thoughts about any of it just because if i let myself start rambling, this will spiral into a 200k word long monstrosity and never actually get answered so! recs!
the good news is 99% of this was introduced in one big saga, so it's actually pretty straightforward & easy to get into. apart from the greens, the only two that were sortakinda introduced before the whole war of light era were the star sapphires & yellow lanterns, but they were both originally pretty different to how they are now
honestly, the older version of the yellow ring doesn't really matter all that much when it comes to the current version. i'm still gonna put a couple things where it shows up, but you could definitely pick up later comics without reading them and not be lost if you'd like to skip
on the other hand, i would suggest reading at least a little about the original star sapphire before jumping into the war of light era because it builds on & references back to the older comics quite a bit
Sinestro/Yellow rings:
Green Lantern (1960) #7, #9
Green Lantern (1990) #83 - 85 for the introduction of fatality
Green Lantern (1990) #131 - 136
Star Sapphire & the Zamarons:
Green Lantern (1960) #16, #26, #41, #73 - 74
Superman #261
Green Lantern (1960) #129
Green Lantern (1960) #178 - 190 is where the predator (which will come back later) is introduced, but the fact that the predator existed pre-blackest night isn't something you need to know to understand its later iteration. it's really only ever mentioned a couple times in passing, and to be honest, this whole arc is just... really not my favorite. you can absolutely skip if you find you're not having a good time with it
Green Lantern (1960) #191 - 192
Green Lantern (1990) #83 - 85, again, for fatality
Emerald Twilight (Green Lantern (1990) #48 - 50) is also really important to read if you want to be able to understand like... anything that happens later
less importantly, i'd also suggest checking out the original ion arc (Green Lantern (1990) #143 - 150). you won't be super lost or anything if you don't, but it'll provide a little context about wtf this ion thing everybody's talking about is
and LASTLY, black lanterns were a thing before Blackest Night. Blackest Night & Brightest Day and like 99% of what's here is pretty heavily based on Tales of the Green Lantern Corps #1 - 3 & its annuals. you don't have to read that before jumping into Blackest Night (i think i'd actually recommend waiting and coming back to it later), but if you're interested, it's definitely worth checking out!
and now, with all that out of the way, we can get into the johns/tomasi era & the actual point of this post lol
pretty much every single arc here is constantly jumping between about 3-4 different books, but instead of linking to a bunch of different reading lists, i'm just gonna put all the individual issues so everything's all in one place & hopefully easier to use as a reference, if anyone wants to do that... so this is going to be an obnoxiously long post! sorry about that!
ok! first and perhaps most controversially, Green Lantern: Rebirth. the dreaded parallax retcon, but it's kind of the foundation of all of this, so it's a must-read when it comes to the whole spectrum.
again, if you only read one thing from the older comics, let it be Emerald Twilight (Green Lantern (1990) #48 - 50) because Rebirth will really not make much sense without that context
next, i'd recommend jumping ahead a little and going ahead to read hal's origin (Green Lantern (2005) #29 - 35). you can wait and read it later if you want, of course, but it's just kinda shoved in the middle of a different arc later, and i really think it makes things flow a bit better if you just get to it up front instead
the first part of the green lantern & green lantern corps titles (Green Lantern (2005) #1 - 20 & Green Lantern Corps (2006) #1 - 13) don't have all that much to do with setting up the spectrum or the other corps, so if you're eager to just get straight to that, you can skip that
but if not and you want to read everything, be sure and check out Green Lantern Corps: Recharge, which is what sets up Green Lantern Corps (2006), before jumping into it!
Green Lantern (2005) #17 - 20 is the Mystery of the Star Sapphire arc that kicks everything off. from this point on, it's pretty much non-stop arcs spanning multiple books and more tie-ins than you've ever seen in your life
it's all very fun, but it is, quite frankly, annoying as hell to read. like i said, i'm gonna be listing it all out, but i'm gonna separate everything by arc and put the names of each because most of these have been collected into TPBs or omnibuses & if you can manage to track down that version, i'd HIGHLY recommend reading it that way to save yourself some frustration
Sinestro Corps War:
Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special #1
Green Lantern (2005) #21
Green Lantern Corps (2006) #14
Green Lantern (2005) #22
Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Parallax #1
Green Lantern Corps (2006) #15
Green Lantern (2005) #23
Green Lantern Corps (2006) #16
Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Cyborg Superman #1
Green Lantern (2005) #24
Green Lantern Corps (2006) #17
Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Superman-Prime #1
Green Lantern Corps (2006) #18
Green Lantern (2005) #25
Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Ion #1
Green Lantern Corps (2006) #19
Green Lantern (2005) #26 - 28 and Green Lantern Corps (2006) #19 - 28 are the epilogue of the Sinestro Corps War, including the Ring Quest Arc, the introduction of the alpha lanterns, and the prologue to Rage of the Red Lanterns. also, if you want to read hal's revamped origin (Green Lantern (2005) #29 - 35) here instead, this is where it was originally placed
Rage of the Red Lanterns:
Final Crisis: Rage of the Red Lanterns
Green Lantern (2005) #36 - 38
Agent Orange & Tale of the Black Lantern:
Green Lantern (2005) #39 - 42
Green Lantern (2005) #43
Sins of the Star Sapphire & Emerald Eclipse:
Green Lantern Corps (2006) #29 - 32
Green Lantern Corps (2006) #33 - 38
BLACKEST NIGHT:
ok, this is the big one. pretty much everything that was running at the time of this event did a tie-in for it, and as such, there are a lot of issues in the full reading order that aren't super necessary to read, as all that really happens is you get to see which rings went to which characters
i'm gonna be putting the less important tie-ins in italics. you can skip them & come back later if you want
Blackest Night #0 - 1
Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps #1 - 3
Green Lantern (2005) #44
Blackest Night #2
Green Lantern (2005) #45

Brightest Day:
there was a main Brightest Day book, but it's mostly just about the heroes resurrected in Blackest Night running around trying to figure out what to do now. you can read it if you want, of course, but it doesn't actually have much to do with the lantern corps, so we're ignoring it here

Red Lanterns #20
aaand this is unfortunately where things kinda start to go downhill imo--for the main green lantern book, especially. you can, of course, read everything if you want, but tbh Red Lanterns, Sinestro, and sometimes Green Lantern Corps were the only things i actually enjoyed reading & would really recommend from this point on, so i'm gonna be skipping a bit
Red Lanterns #21 - 23 is guy's red lantern coup d'etat arc, and Green Lantern Corps (2011) #21 - 23 is kinda build up to The Fatality Thing that comes in the Uprising arc, and then we get to Lights Out, which tbh i just straight up do not like, but we're gonna put it here anyway because it's important to a lot that comes later (unfortunately)
Lights Out:
Green Lantern: New Guardians #22 - 23
Green Lantern (2011) #24
Green Lantern Corps (2011) #24
Green Lantern: New Guardians #24
Red Lanterns #24
Green Lantern (2011) Annual #2
Uprising:
Green Lantern Corps (2011) #25 - 30 is kinda prologue to this, including some actually fun weirdness with von daggle & the more covert/espionage side of the glc
Green Lantern (2011) #31
Green Lantern Corps (2011) #31
Green Lantern (2011) #32
Green Lantern Corps (2011) #32
Green Lantern (2011) #33
Green Lantern Corps (2011) #33 - 34
Red Daughter of Krypton (one of my favorite arcs to come out of this whole thing <3):
Supergirl (2011) #26 - 29
Green Lantern (2011) #28
Red Lanterns #28 - 29
Supergirl (2011) #30
Red Lanterns #30
Supergirl (2011) #31
Red Lanterns #31 - 32
Supergirl (2011) #32 - 33
Red Lanterns #33, Annual #1, #34
the beginning of the long-running "sinestro trying to regain custody of his child" arc:
Sinestro #1 - 5
Godhead:
New Gods: Godhead #1
Green Lantern (2011) #35
Green Lantern Corps (2011) #35
Green Lantern: New Guardians #35
Red Lanterns #35
Sinestro #6
Green Lantern (2011) #36
Green Lantern Corps (2011) #36
Green Lantern: New Guardians #36
Red Lanterns #36
Sinestro #7
Green Lantern (2011) #37
Green Lantern Corps (Volume 3) #37
Green Lantern: New Guardians #37
Red Lanterns #37
Sinestro #8
Green Lantern Annual (2011) #3
Green Lantern Corps (2011), Green Lantern: New Guardians, and Red Lanterns all only had 3 issues left after this arc ended, and they're all... fine? i'd recommend reading them just because, y'know, why not? and then thaaat's pretty much it
after this, we're just left with the main title, which continues to be very meh imo, and Sinestro, which is actually pretty good. i'd say just stick with that, read Sinestro #9 - 23, and then join us all in Rebirth & hoping dc gets its shit together and actually does something interesting with all this again sometime soon

BTB!Crookedstar I’m changing a lot. He’s a trans guy now, transitioning at the barn when he runs away as well as having a different name that I’m trying to work out.
Since they are a battle cult names that represent a cats harsh injury they survived are a honor instead of something to feel bad about. So the name Crookedjaw would instead be a honor title in this world. Which means I gotta come up with a new name for him since Rainflower still renames him
Stormkit is Rainflower’s little baby and absolutely does everything to try and get her praise, sneaking out to bring her special flowers, catching pretty dragonflies, showing off his hunting by getting fish or even bird eggs from a nest near camp. While she’s a lot to handle she always praises her for it even telling her to go farther. She loves Oakkit as well ofc but is definitely biased towards her strong daughter
When Stormkit gets out shes specifically trying to get blooming hydrangea that’s at the river’s edge, Oakkit tries to stop her but tags along to try and keep his rambunctious sister safe. But as the kit snaps the flower off the branch Goosefeather pops out and scares the two kits, as they try to run away the scraggly oracle attempts to pull them back and Stormkit slips. She falls into the river, smacks her jaw on the river stone, and drifts down stream
She was supposed to die here. Drowning with her body surfacing right at the camp’s edge with that flower in her twisted jaw. But something saved her, pushing her up with a strange currant to get a breathe and drifting the water right to a Shellheart’s paws that were trying desperately to find his daughter
BTB has strong themes of fate that isn’t exact but has a vague outline. Starclan knew that one of the two kits were to be leader and seeing how Stormkit was they wanted Oakkit to be it instead. He would be far more controllable then Stormkit ever would’ve been so the kit magically being saved even thought they could feel her small spirit half in their realm was a shock.
It was a long rough recovery setting Stormkit behind multiple moons compared to the rest of the kits but even so Brambleberry was shocked by how well the kit did recover. She had no herbs and yet just as Stormkit started showing symptoms of sickness she would find the exact herb that she needed. The medic believed the kit had a much bigger fate from this
Rainflower meanwhile was a mess. Her beloved baby was now twisted and barely conscious for over a moon. She was both overbearing and distant, trying desperately to fix her kit but not providing the love that Stormkit needed. She was blaming every other cat around but inside entirely herself. When Storm actually started recovering and was adjusting to her new life Rainflower stepped back and tried to just forget it all. Forget her baby was now broken in her mind forget that she’d never get to see her the same forget she was even her daughter. She gave Stormkit her own nest because she couldn’t bare to look at the kit let alone let it lay next to her which caused fights between her and Shellheart along with Oakkit squirming away from her
When Stormkit at last was becoming a apprentice (at around 8 1/2 moons instead of the normal 6) she very publicly screamed that she could never be a normal apprentice for her broken jaw. While Hailstar hated seeing his sister like this he couldn’t just stop the ceremony so he made Stormkit into Stormpaw but right after agreed to change her name into what Rainflower wanted, which I also haven’t decided but it’s gotta be a harsh name like a detachment title from Rainflower’s family maybe Solepaw? Idk
The now changed Stormpaw fights with Rainflower where she says she should’ve never survived the accident and Storm runs away
She ends up at the farm and just calls herself Storm but after meeting Fleck and Mitzi finds more self acceptance as well as actually learning how to work with her jaw instead of working against it. This is also where he comes out as trans and starts transition fully! Yay!
After saving Mitzi’s kits he sees that same ghost again who says his fate resides back with the clans and that now which himself figured out he can fix their way of life while before he would’ve refused now he feels it, a pull to go back and not keep running
Storm goes back and is accepted back in by his dad and brother who both accept him as their son/brother, and Hailstar lets him back in as he felt guilty every since the cat disappeared believing it was because he foolishly forced that name onto his own nephew just to appease his sister. But he keeps the name in spite of his mother Rainflower who doesn’t accept him back anyways. As Solepaw (temp name) he quickly excels since he actually knows how to use his jaw in a way that works and is named Solestorm for both his old name as well as his attitude that’s as strong as the storm that once fell upon their camp
As a apprentice tho he was close with the older apprentice Willowpaw who’d come from Windclan and had been a apprentice almost as long as he had been to try and prove herself. When she finally becomes a warrior she is named Willowbreeze and the two get even closer. They’d already been kinda crushing on each other but now as warriors they announced their love quickly
The whole camp cheered for them except Rainflower who just straight up walked out of camp. Solestorm chases after her and finds her looking over hydrangeas, the same ones he once tried to get for her. A voice whispers to kill her but it’s not familiar, colder but sweet in his ear. But the echoey water noise of a wraith he’s known much longer tells him to follow his heart. Not a forceful counter but a clear message. Solestorm drops his head and sits beside his mother that same aching he felt as kit for her attention a faint Mew in his mind.
While she pleads for forgiveness he doesn’t accept her full apology but does let her in slightly. The damage she’s done is irreversible and he can’t ever trust her fully but he wants to know his mom
Eventually Solestorm or whatever I’ll make his name becomes deputy after his dad retires and Willowbreeze has their litter (by the help of Oakheart) but she does die along with the two other kits leaving just their lone daughter to his care. It hurts having them gone especially as his brother is still distant but he loves her anyway and names her something either after Shell or after Mapleshade-
Haven’t decided! But if you’ve read this far plz give ideas on not only his name but also what BTB!Silverstream’s could be

What's your opinion of President Snow as a character in THG trilogy? Was he a great villain?
* Spoiler for TBOSAS *
After reading the novel, what's your opinion about Coriolanus Snow 'transformation' in the end?
Was it his nature or the way he was nurtured that led him to become the character we know?
Thank you :)
@curiousnonny
oooh this is so interesting actually, thank you for this question. i’ve clearly just read tbosas and am foaming at the mouth to talk about it lmao.
i think he IS a great villain, and I think for me tbosas made him even more of a villain instead of making him more sympathetic. Because he CHOSE to become what he did, despite getting ample opportunity to become someone else. I don’t think anyone is evil at their core, we all have potential for both good and evil. some more, some less. and our circumstances undoubtedly play a part in that. so for me, it’s all the more tragic and frustrating that coriolanus actively chooses to become what he is. he is capable of empathy! he is capable of love! he was even at a certain point capable of change, he just chose not to change! he chose control, and his ego above love. he said it himself at the end, love made him feel weak and stupid and that’s his greatest fear imho. he is desperately afraid and seeks control. i think to a certain degree that’s his nature, he naturally has some of those qualities, but a lot of it is definitely also childhood trauma. But here’s the thing, Tigris I think is like the other side of his coin, a Snow, raised in the very same circumstances as him, by the same bigoted woman, surviving the same trauma, but fundamentally more inclined toward empathy than Coriolanus is. Maybe also less vain than he is.
But anyway, i think the fact that he isn’t just inherently one bad thing is symbolised by his parents. his cold and distant father, the great patriarch of the Snow dynasty, a soldier, a war hero. And his mother, who was kind, soft, loved music, sang him to sleep, smelled of roses. And throughout the book he clings to that side of himself even as he’s slowly letting it erode. I think the moment he throws the ruined cake of powder away after the lake is symbolic of him finally giving up on that soft and vulnerable part of himself and embracing the parts that he gets from his father (aka the brass compass).
I’d even venture so far as to say that while throughout the book his vulnerability and empathy are symbolised by his mother and her cake of powder, his desperate need for control and feelings of superiority are symbolised by his familial name. And the fact that at the end he’s referred to as just Snow and not Coriolanus (like later in the og series), is indicative of him succumbing completely to that part of himself.
All that to say- I disliked him immensely throughout the book precisely because time and time again I saw him refuse to learn and grow, and indulge his worst impulses instead of his best. He IS incredibly vapid, vain and self centered and also just scared. And the fact that on a certain level he KNOWS this, he even explicitly thinks about this, but goes on to dismiss it is what makes me hate him so much more.
And as for his transformation, i think the point is that there wasn’t really a transformation. Despite what he went through and what he saw, he doesn’t change his view, he reinforces it. He doesn’t learn to see people in the district as human, he doesn’t learn to empathize, and love, and own up to his mistakes and grow from them. He continues to blame others for his circumstances, continues to look down on people he deems beneath him, he chooses control and power over love. i think he only transforms at the end in so far as letting any pretenses go and embracing the worst parts of himself fully.

Hi again. I have a favor to ask you. For my retrospective I'm planning, i wanna attach messages in a group "Thanks for everything" note. I would like to ask you if youd like to add a message where you say things like how you got into the show and how much it means to you, how it affected you.
thanks in advance
yeahh sure I can spare a few words 👍
I think I first watched xiaolin showdown when it aired on tv when I was a kid. I have very little memories of it (I probably didn't get to watch much) but I rmr I always wanted to do a proper, full watchthrough someday. I procrastinated on doing that for several years but when I finally did watch it I got invested almost immediately. the thing that hooked me in the most was def the character writing and their dynamics. it's the best thing abt the show for me
also sometime before that watchthrough I learned raimundo was brazilian just like me frfr and I was 1. very surprised (I must have somehow missed every episode of the show as a kid that mentions that fact. which includes the very first episode lol) and 2. very happy bc omg holy shit brazil mention !!!!
honestly xs is a show with a lot of highs and lows (a lot of lows …) but it is undeniably great at sparking creativity (even if that creativity manifests itself in the form of fix-it fics sometimes) and I still feel attached to my favorite characters from the show ngl. shoutout to raimundo pedrosa. love that guy

Bells Hells Self Ship: Chetney Edition
Alright I said I was going to do ship ramblings, and now it is time for cr3 stuff with my lovely insert, Bunny Autumnrose. I want to do one with every member that I ship her with romantically, because or else it will be too long!! This one is going to be specifically with her and the ridiculous ass old gnome who somehow wrestled his way in her heart lmao
♡♡ There won't be a lot of plot spoilers, however there might be a few things mildly mentioned that could be possible spoilers. I would be careful if you'd like to avoid them for the campaign!! Also a bit of a warning for spicy mentions throughout. Bunny uses they/she pronouns. ♡♡
Other Ships -> Fearne, Launda, Dorian, Imogen, Bertrand
Though I haven't completely decided when Bunny makes her first appearance, I know it's rather early on. And when Chet first meets her it's like fucking love at first sight for him. He is immediately fucking swooning over the "big bunny lady" and follows her around like a goddamn lost puppy. This only gets worse throughout the time that they spend together.
Bunny is very oblivious to most advances thrown her way, and this one is no different. Even when he is being very blatant, she doesn't even notice the way he is constantly fucking drooling. She will eventually get the hint bc of multiple comments tossed her way, but it will take a bit for her to catch up.
Chet definitely finds her oblivious nature cute, playing around with it to his favor sometimes. There's multiple interactions where he is flirting with her harder and harder, and it's only when she catches on that she has little quips in response. All of which make it seem that she finds it flattering, but isn't planning to reciprocate.
There were a few times when the group was first discovering his wolf side that Bunny was a bit flustered, though she would never admit it out loud this early. She would make a few comments to anyone nearby, and it would be no secret that she saw some kind of appeal with his werewolf form.
There's a constant banter between the two of them that she is unavailable, even though she is gaining relationships with the rest of the group left and right. He is insanely determined, even though she is shutting him down a bit more insistently. Which is hilarious considering her relationship with Fearne (that started VERY early on).
They grow a bit of a friendship through the course of time together, and even though she still shuts him down, she openly admits that he makes her laugh. Multiple times she is sweet to him, though she quickly regrets it after the comments and flirting that it's followed up with.
She suggests that he should make her something when prompted (however I'm still deciding what that is), along with the rest of the group. However, Chet ends up gifting her an additional item that he made for her himself. A beautiful jewelry box for all of her trinkets, hair accessories, and other things she wears constantly. Adding little details from all their conversations that she would like, especially the addition of her favorite flowers.
This moment is one of the first that they share an actual intimate moment, and it's followed by the cutest little interaction with them. Him winking at her to not tell anyone, or they'll think that he's playing favorites. Her giggling. Like COME ON YOU TWO--
Things begin to heat up between them during the party split, and it starts to become a bit more physical between them. Bunny hadn't expected things to take such a sharp turn, however it never did quite stop after that. She came to enjoy their newfound change, though his cockiness left her feeling conflicted. In many ways that she wouldn't like to admit as well.
Whenever she started catching feelings, it became quite obvious to mainly Dawn (@self-shipping-angel's insert) and a few others over time, however Bunny herself was oblivious to her own. In fact, she had to be told to pay attention a few times, before she fully understood just how fucked she had become when it came to the old gnome.
She was able to hide it pretty well, until she couldn't and one by one everyone started to catch on that things were different with her especially. Even with small little teasing quips from Chet, nobody believed it until Bunny was getting nervous and acting different overall around him.
A series of events, mainly spearheaded by Ashton and Imogen looking to cause a stir, would prompt the truth to come out. A spiral into Chet deciding to make this big grand gesture that went way out of hand and ended up leaving Bunny more embarrassed than fucking wooed. Thus resulting in a story that the group will never let either live it down.
The group as a whole would push her into confessing sooner than she had wanted to, if not just for the sanity of everyone involved. Her nervousness would be rather cute and working a bit in her favor, having no problems getting him alone on a walk to have this rather private conversation. Though some would follow to eavesdrop because they're nosy fucks lmao
Bunny admits to having some feelings that she's still figuring out that are most definitely more than she expected. She also might confess to finding the effort he put in to being romantic with her rather sweet, though it was a tiny bit over the top. Not that he isn't going to do it again... and again...
The night ended with them having another rather cutely intimate moment, with him gifting her a flower that she wears in her hair from then on, ultimately changing their relationship by a small bit. Until Bunny is ready for something else, which only further time together will tell~

I’m sorry @spottyissleepwalking bc I know ur on a lil hiatus and this is out of nowhere and in top of that unreasonably long but I wrote PolyPO3 thing lol. It was actually just a test writing I started for my own au with Moth after Hawk’s death bc Leafpool leaves to go with Crow which hurts her a ton. But then I just started with a few cats as maybe a poly situation till I realized this is straight up ur au. Um so here sorry if it’s poorly written I’ve never posted any real writing things I’ve done:
A Dream Dappled in Light ; PolyPO3 Story Snippet
It was such a calm day, the air cool and breeze soft. The lulling sounds of the river a song to her ears. And yet a tension built in her chest like she’d scented a fox near camp. As she tilted her head up Mothwing saw the sky, bright but clouds dotted around, waiting for their chance to swoop in and cover the sun’s warm rays. These kind of days were as slippery as a pike. While they could taste great and feed everyone they could also turn and deal devastating damage to anyone around. She used to love days this nice but every sound made her mind turn and heart flutter. A belly of butterflies.
Saying that just made her taste bile. Butterflies could never be beautiful to her eyes. Not after she’d stumbled upon her brot- Hawkfrost’s corpse devoid of life covered in them. She remembered with a shudder running up and watching them all fly away to show her the stake through his chest. Ever since that day at the lake she couldn’t stomach seeing one without envisioning him.
He couldn’t hurt her anymore or anyone else. But it still stung without him. All her memories felt tainted, poison to think about. Moth just willed one day they’d go back to the nostalgia they used to be. But today wasn’t about butterflies or hawks. It was about Leafpool.
It was the dark moon. Where no light could shine through and peak at them. Leafpool told her she’d chose this night because she couldn’t stomach her ancestors watching her break the code in so many ways. Though Moth didn’t really get it she didn’t mess with it. It wasn’t her place to prod someone else for their beliefs just as it wasn’t theirs to ridicule her for not having any. Still she did find some annoyance at having to trek through the pitch black to try and find the blasted island where they’d planned to meet.
The island was rather bright with flickering fireflies across it lighting up the place. What could have been if he’d had his way, making this Riverclan’s. Her home. But that didn’t happen and it was now where all the clans would meet to share news and tales with each other.
Her pelt was dripping so she decided to sit and groom as she waited. It was only a bit before another cat pushed through the thick ferns across from her. A pure white cat with feathery fur and eyes like hail. Snowbird.
The Shadowclan molly came through and quickly met her own eyes, giving a regal nod before flicking her back foot to get a spot of mud off. Between the cats who’d all come close over a shared love for Leafpool Snowbird was her favorite. She was always very open, clear as glass, and knew how tell a snappy joke to keep the conversation smooth. While the two didn’t consider eachother mates they did have a friendly bond over the fact both held the normal Star based beliefs. And having come from outside the clans.
“Hello Mothwing. When did you get here?” The molly asked as she padded closer.
“Oh just a few minutes. It seems we’re both early as usual.” Mothwing said with a small chuckle.
“I don’t know why you ever dry your fur. It looks beautiful with water sparkling off it. Like dew in the early morning grass. Though being damp all day would be quite a pain especially with your long fur.” Snowbird said as she admired her friends golden fur. A bashful thanks was shared before they shared some small talk. Hearing the molly speak always calmed Moth down, her slightly different accent that was smooth as the calm waters was almost a lullaby to listen to. Her voice reminded Mothwing almost of her mothers though far more washed down.
The two were just talking about some feathers they’d found when the final cats pushed through the fern gate where the other three clans crossed through. A beautiful black molly with eyes like perennial blooms and crow feathers in her fluffy mane. “Nightcloud” Mothwing breathed out with a slightly flutter in her chest. While they were all close, she’d always had a small aesthetic crush on the beautiful cat. I mean how could you not? She was both sleek and fluffy with fur so dark it could blend into the night sky and eyes that blossomed from her black pelt. And her attitude definitely led to the great admiration she held for the cat, she was sassy and tough with a rough tongue and fight like a roar in her throat always there to startle those who only saw her as a pretty kitty.
Just behind her was the less favored Crowfeather. While he was quite the perfect Windclan cat with his build and looks he always was incredibly unbearable. No fancy words or much good will he always killed the feel with some ruse words. She never got what Leafpool saw in him, especially not enough to consider being real mates with. Not even friends could seem to bare his rudeness as his few ones were pretty distant from him and always finding excuses to get away from him.
At last the cat of the night pushed through. Immediately setting her heart alive. She was pretty clearly nervous as her eyes looked to the ground instead of at the cats around. It took every ounce of energy in Mothwing not to go up and comfort her but she knew this wasn’t the time. And apparently some pretty big news was to be said tonight to the cats gathered.
At last she started, though as she spoke her paws rubbed her belly softly. “Umm so hi uh all my ma-mates. I just um have some pretty big things to uh share tonight that I can’t wait to say any longer. Um uh I’m, um I’m expecting.” The last words were much quieter but still everyone heard. Mothwing didn’t even think about the cats around her as her eyes widened. Barley noticing as she got up and walked forward to hug her true love. She felt a rumble in her chest as she purred. Visions of little paws trampoline her side, claws clinging on as she ran around with the kits on her back, small fangs chomping on her tail as they grew. It was like she transferred the dreams in her head to Leaf when she looked into her green eyes as the same light she felt inside shined back. Two other cats, Snowbird and Nightcloud came and and cuddled beside them as well as all the cats discussed the idea of kits to share. That was until a rough voice called from a bit behind Mothwing.
“But who gets them? I mean they can’t just be shared equally between four clans that’s a dung lucked dream. You can’t just rotate them across borders or else they’ll never find loyalty with a group.” Crowfeather scoffed as he stared at the clump of cats, the light she felt in her heart dimming like a crushed firefly. “And Leafpool you can’t believe everyone will just agree to such a idea especially as their atleast healer born on one side, not including Mothwing. Unless you want to be scratched down to a heartthrob healer I don’t know if you can even keep them.”
Those last words felt like a scratch to her own cheek and Moth held back from leaping straight at the feather brained tom. The cat beside her didn’t have as much strength as Nightcloud jumped over her and pushed him back a bit. Clear anger in her magenta eyes. “You vulture tongued, fox hearted, half rotted corpse of a cat take that back!” She screeched with rage, like a shadow had come to life to get the cat for being so stupid with his words. And from Crow’s sharp bristling pelt she knew he’d gotten a real shake.
“Night calm down! He’s right. We can’t have the kits be lost without any loyalty and you all could loose so much from this. I know we all want them, atleast most of us-“ she whispered with a hurt look to Crowfeather “But they can’t just live their lives between all of the clans. We need to figure out how to work this out before I start showing and how we’ll explain it.”
The island was silent as they all thought but the quick scratching of claws in the dirt made head turns to the quickly moving white molly. Snowbird was scratching some idea she’d had into the dirt and they all watched with curious eyes. As she sat back and looked down at her work, clear thoughts behind her eye, she looked up at them all. “We don’t know how many will be born or the real consequences of this whole relationship will be but I personally don’t care about any issues unlike some rubbish pelt. But we could rotate the kits across the clans until they themselves choose where they’d most like to be, or if they can’t choose one find a way to have them move between clans. That way no parent is cut from the kits and they have full choice on how this works.”
As she finished the light in all their eyes form before brightened back, almost brighter then before. Hope for them all to have a paw in their first litters setting the whole cats heart ablaze. All for one. Crowfeather still sat back as if his spirit was made of ice. They all rolled their eyes as he opened his mouth to speak once again.
“Your all blind! What mole minded plan this is! Psh and having worries about any consequences isn’t gross or whatever ‘rubbish’ means Snowbird that’s just having ambition unlike the rest of you. Personally I would trade my whole future for some kits between a ton of cats who clearly care about eachother more then they do me.” He said with a icy tone, bringing his paw up to lick at the end to show he isn’t bothered by any comments. While he may not know what rubbish is both her and Snow did and it described him quite well, stinky trash he was.
“Alright Crow you can back out no one minds. The kits don’t ever have to see you as any father and none of us will mention your barley there paw in all of this. Go back to Windclan and cry about how Onestar keeps passing you up for deputy none of us like the sound of a screeching bird anyway.” Mothwing sliced with a look back at Leafpool. While she never saw what the molly ever could see in him she knew now that she definitely lost that love when he said he’d trade their kits for a higher role in the clans. None batted a eye as he puffed up his chest and walked back through the fern gate to go to Windclan. All the cats turning back to eachother to discuss any names or ideas of how to break the news, what clan they’d go to first, if they’ll come by Thunderclan to help with their litter’s birth. Talk of seeing them grow made all the cats giggle and laugh.
Mothwing hated to turn around as she saw the pinpricks of early early dawn. She felt such a push to stay beside her mates side. And she could see the same power struggle in Snow and Nights eyes. Leafpool seemed to be having a hard time pushing herself out of the cuddle pile they’d made for the night around each other. But all the cats had to go back to their clans. With licks on the ears and soft touches of the nose Mothwing turned around to swim back to camp. The whole paddle and trek back thinking of soft bundles beside her many mates bellies, kittens protected by her fur from the cold, teaching them to fish and catch fish or identify herbs. The butterflies in her belly weren’t so vile as she realized they weren’t to make her reminisce on the past but to expect the future and what it could hold. Smiling she pushed into camp as kitten played around her mind.

okay so nailah has a whole ~thing~ about people using her name and how she’s perceived so here’s the long explanation/story about it (covers pre-arr up through the end of base arr)
(it gets heavy - this is your warning. also ~1k words. sorry.)
As a kid, her mother Tasya would rarely use Nailah’s name, choosing instead to just call her “girl” or “child” the majority of the time. In the very rare times she’d praise her daughter, Tasya would say it quietly, and only ever in private. Nailah internalized the idea that a name is a vulnerable thing - something delicate, reserved only for people one deeply trusted. She projected this rule on others as well, picking up the habit of calling people by their job or title on the few occasions she was allowed to speak.
Once Nailah’s started having visions, she lost the privilege of having a name. Tasya immediately switched to referring to her with insults, ranging from “thing” to “half-mad beast” to “disappointment” and the like. Nailah’s potential was mourned far more than her presence was tolerated. The rejection and denial carved a weeping hole in her heart, and she spent an incredible amount of effort trying to be good enough again for Tasya. It never was.
After her mother finally abandoned her, she wandered nameless through the wilds. She thought of herself as a wild, half-mad beast, fit only to scavenge the very fringes of society. Yet when she’d encounter a stranger in the woods and they’d ask her name she never knew how to respond. Should she admit to her brokenness? Tell them she was a monster? Someone better left forgotten? She settled on simply being called “wanderer” - it was the truth, if anything. A mask to hide how she saw herself. She quickly realized it could be used to set people’s expectations of her on her own terms.
Once the wanderer discovered she could manufacture a social mask, she took up the mantle of the mercenary. She kept to remote villages, appearing and disappearing as suddenly as the wind, often only noticed by news of some local threat being quelled. Few people recognized her, and fewer still heard her speak. She hid as much of herself as she could, staying hidden under a thick cloak of silence and only answered to her moniker. She thought nobody could reject her if she rejected herself first, but her relentless visions haunted her. She felt, through other’s hearts, the warmth of lovers greeting one another, the affection in well worn childhood nicknames, the joys of long lost friends reuniting. The aching loneliness she was so used to grew more overwhelming with every vision. Was this truly what she wanted? To be forgotten and alone? Who was she really, hiding under her mask?
She wandered town after town, road after road, using her title as a statement of being. She was just a Mercenary. Little more than a weapon to be pointed at a problem. People were kept at an arms length distance with professional ease, and she could still be useful to those she came across. There was comfort for her in how simple it all seemed, though simplicity was a poor answer to her loneliness. Every solitary morning she drowned in silence, every new horizon was greyed by her sorrow. She stopped trying to answer the cloying doubts that clung to her, their despair staining her thoughts more than she could bear. Who was she, under everything? She gave herself one last chance - go to the closest city and try to find an answer - or fade away, lost and forgotten.
Ul’dah held much more than just an answer for her, though she didn’t know it at the time. The adventurer’s guild asked for a name - she told them Nailah. She couldn’t remember where she heard it. Familiar as it was, she refused to let anyone call her such. She was Mercenary. Adventurer. The name was a formality, nothing more. It wasn’t a mask she wanted to use. Much to her displeasure, the guild used her name frequently enough for it to become common knowledge among their clients.
When the Scions took notice of her abilities, she asked the same comfortable distance of them she was so used to. In response the Scions gave her their names - Thancred, Yda, Minfilia - and she couldn’t understand. Why tell a simple mercenary the names of Scions? Did she not deserve scorn for her visions? The visions have a name? Their responses were acceptance and support and Nailah could not understand. She called them by titles instead - Scholar, Scion, Antecedent - though her echo didn’t let her miss the disappointment they felt. She tightened her masks and hid behind a new one, one given by those who accepted the mercenary - the Warrior of Light.
Tales of the Warrior triumphing over Titan and Garuda spread through Eorzea like wildfire. Her new allies respected the distance she desired, though they had the odd habit of confiding their worries to her. The Warrior supposed she made a good listener, quiet as she was. Would they listen to her? Should she risk that vulnerability? She didn’t know what answer she hoped for anymore. She didn’t know what she would say. She kept her silence.
Her mask started to chafe. Strangers made assumptions about who she was, remarking they expected her to be bigger or a man. Few expected her to be as quiet as she was. Fewer still, a mage. She felt choked by their expectations - who she was wasn’t what they seemed to want. The desire to abandon her masks and nascent bonds writhed inside her whenever she heard new voices. What more did she need to do? Was the Warrior not enough for them? Scions noticed her frustration, offering short words of encouragement. She did her best to listen.
Once the Ultima Weapon was destroyed, she took a look at herself. The Scions - Papalymo, Yda, Urianger -  stood by her every step they could. Did they not deserve to see who their Warrior was? One quiet morning, once everything was moved to Mor Dhona, The Warrior met Minfilia in her solar for possibly the most terrifying request of her life - she asked her first new friend to call her by name.
Nailah.
As long as they were in the solar. Alone. Where nobody else could hear.
It was a start, at least.

Said very nicely,
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR OCS
-🎻 anon
i apologize in advance for the sheer amount of talking i'm finna do 🧍🏽
SOOOO...
for context: in the world that i started building in high school (which has not been named to this day), i created an empire whose given theme was the sun. the avrigian empire is heavily religious and led by an emperor, and there are five holy families (based on the seven holy virtues, though i condensed it to five for the sake of my brain).
the imperial family is heavily reliant on the stars, meaning that their titles have much to do with the stars. the emperor (or empress) would be polaris, the northern star (or polaria for Gender Reasons); reason being that the northern star guides people on their journeys, and the emperor is meant to guide the people, y'know?
the imperial children receive the names of stars. every generation is named after a constellation, and the children receive names based on the stars that make up said constellation.
OKAY so with that out of the way, lemme introduce my Children
the present generation is based on orion. there's two children: rigel and saipha sulien.
rigel is the firstborn, and the brightest star in orion. he also goes by "cielo" since rigel is like a sacred name of sorts. he's a stage 3 mana manifestor, meaning he can control the elements — he's got pyrokinesis and very bright features and AAAAAAAAAAA okay?
the emperor of the avrigian empire also acts as the commander of the entire imperial army. they're meant to go to war if need be, so they are formally trained in combat.
rigel is... not emotionally built for that. he's a big guy — about 6'4 and muscular (just short of being built like a himbo) — but he's so soft. the softest. he hates sitting in on trials with his father because the punishments are always swift and intense, he hates training and going out to battle with the soldiers because he has to see his men or the enemy injured... he just can't stomach negativity. he can't bring himself to hurt anyone or anything. he's not a doormat, but he's lenient and kind.
that brings me to saipha, whose other name is "helia". saipha is a stage 2 mana manifestor, meaning that her abilities are very mind-oriented. she's an empath, capable of physically feeling the emotions of others, she can see the auras of other people, and she can somewhat detect lies when they're told. it's all overwhelming for her though, and she's prone to sensory overload. she wears a veil over her face most of the time to shield her from such overwhelming amounts of information. she's often brought to trials and meetings because her intuition is strong and reliable (not heavily reliable, but it's a good starting point for most things — i'd give her an 80% accuracy rate.)
anyway, the heads of the five holy families and the sages all believe that saipha should be heir apparent, not rigel.
saipha was deemed unfit to be empress because of her sensory overload — it puts her completely out of commission, sometimes for days on end. but the sages and families (and even the sitting emperor himself) all believe that an objective ruler who is ill from time to time is far better than a ruler with a soft heart. if rigel was going to be weak, then they'll make saipha the ruler instead.
rigel absolutely hates it. people respect him because of the authority that his figure seems to demand, but those within the courts and upper ranks know that he's a weakling at heart. saipha also doesn't like hearing people talk shit about her brother, so she steps forward in his place to take the attention off of him. she's emotionally callous thanks to her status as an empath, but she will always have room in her heart to comfort and defend her big brother.
aaand then i stopped talking because this was long i'm sorry

Ohh okay my last chance, here we go! Black cat for Gumshoe and Edgeworth?
When Miles first woke up that morning, he did not ever think he would be forced to deal with a cat running around his office.
And yet here he was, doing exactly that.
The cat in question was currently hiding up on one of the top shelves of his bookcase. Several books and folders lay scattered across the floor from when they had been knocked over by the feline as it ran away from the detective trying to chase it down.
Gumshoe winced as another was knocked off by the cat flicking its tail, curling in on itself as it settled back into the cranny. “Err, sorry about that, sir. I’ll clean that up,” he promised, rubbing the back of his head. “If you want, I can call animal control to deal with it.”
At that suggestion, Miles frowned. “You will not be calling animal control. It is a cat; we can handle it ourselves.” He cast his gaze upon the cat again, who yawned—apparently it was no longer frightened, and was about to curl up for a nap. “Seemingly, we will have to play the waiting game until it feels comfortable coming down.”
“Why not just grab it after it falls asleep?” he suggested, immediately earning a scoff from the other man.
“Unless you enjoy being scratched, I would advise against that particular move. It will have to come down eventually, and I’d much rather it be on its will rather than us dragging it out.” Miles turned back to the detective then, folding his arms over his chest. “It could be a while. I suggest you return to work and come back later. We are in the middle of an important case, after all, and we do not have time to sit around waiting for the cat to move.”
Gumshoe hesitated, shifting his weight back and forth from one foot to another. He didn’t like the idea of leaving him alone with a stray animal, but after Miles raised his eyebrows expectantly, as if to say Well? What are you waiting for? he got moving and exited the room. With a sigh and one more glance at the cat, Miles took a seat at his desk and got to work.
Once he buried his nose in his work, it was easy to forget about the cat. He was too busy writing up his strategy for court, preparing his notes, and filling out any additional paperwork to spare too many thoughts for the feline slumbering up on his bookshelf—at least, not until the cat leaped down from its perch. Curiously, he set his pen down and leaned back in his chair, watching as the cat strolled over toward him.
It stopped near his feet to sniff him for a moment. Miles stayed perfectly still, not wanting to move and risk sending the cat running off again somewhere and having to repeat the whole process again. After a moment, the cat rubbed its flank up against his leg, evidently determining that he was not a threat anymore. “Why hello there,” he said in a gentle voice.
The cat turned its head toward him, rubbing its chin along his leg as it looked at him; Miles couldn’t help but smile at the sight. It was definitely leaving a few streaks of black fur on his pant leg, but did that really matter? This creature, this adorable little feline, liked him. That realization alone was enough to make his heart soar.
Tentatively, he lowered a hand to hold it near the cat’s face. He didn’t dare try to pet it immediately, letting it approach him first at its own pace. It gave his fingers a curious sniff before ducking its head into his palm as if it was asking him to give it a few pets. Miles did exactly that, lightly stroking his palm backwards on its head. Apparently that was the right move, because then the cat was purring—and oh god, he didn’t think his heart could get any bigger in size.
“Why, aren’t you the sweetest little thing?” he remarked, continuing to pet the cat. He even let his hand move down to its back, running along its body several times before returning to its head to scratch behind its ears. “I wonder where you came from. You don’t have a collar…”
That begged the question of how the cat even got into the building and up into his office in the first place, but Miles honestly couldn’t be concerned with that at the moment when the cat was making the most adorable sounds. He continued petting the cat for another few minutes before reluctantly pulling his hand back. “I wish I could keep petting you, but I do have work to do,” he sighed.
Before he could scoot his chair back in, the cat leaped up into his lap and laid down on top of his legs, effectively trapping him there. Miles let out an amused chuckle as it made itself comfortable on his lap. “All right, message received. I suppose I can pet you and continue working at the same time.” With one hand, he picked up his pen again and continued on where he left off, while the other hand began petting its side in long, slow motions.
By the time Gumshoe returned to his office several hours later to check on the cat situation, said feline had been sound asleep on Miles’ lap for some time. “Wow! It really likes you, sir!” the detective exclaimed when he noticed the cat tucked into his lap.
Miles smiled. “Yes, it certainly appears that way. I must admit, I’ve grown rather fond of her.”
“So what are you going to do with her?” Gumshoe inquired.
“As much as I would hate to part from her now… I would like to bring her to the vet to see if she has been chipped. If not, I will put up lost posters to see if anyone has lost their cat,” he explained.
“And then what?”
Miles looked down at the sleeping cat in his lap, giving it another affectionate pet. She did not wake up. “And then I will adopt her if no one claims her as theirs. Like I said, I have grown rather fond of her. Pess could use a friend when I am not home.”
Gumshoe beamed. “That’s a great idea! And you could even bring her into work sometimes, she really seems to be at home in your office!”
It actually wasn’t a terrible idea. Miles knew if he did it all the time he wouldn’t ever be able to get any work done, but if he did it every once in a while… well, then he would just have to work late to make up for lost time during the day.
“Maybe I should start bringing Missile in with me occasionally! I bet he and that cat would make great pals! In fact, let me go see if I can bring him in from the precinct…” With that, Gumshoe rushed out the door.
Miles couldn’t help but smile down at the cat once more. Today had been a very good day.

???: There’s been a breach.
██: You don’t seem too panicked about it.
???: It’s a hell hole down there. No way some curious civilian that happened to have a hazmat suit in their garage ‘ll make it outta there with their head still attached.
██: No concern about how they attained a government official keycard? There’s no possibility it could be an inside job?
???: Nah. They keep those military folk in line pretty good. Some of them as dumb as rocks though. The easily persuaded type, y’know? I’m sure if it sounded like you knew your stuff any one of them would kneel at your feet. Probably one of those “all knowing” conspiracy theorists that litter this damn town.
██: Nothing to be worried about then...

██: This happen often? I wasn’t briefed on any history of security breaches.
???: Hell no. A few fellas way back when were nosy. Poking their head in where they don't belong and all that. S’why we got agents. Agents absolutely everywhere. I don’t know how, but this one must’ve slipped through the cracks. No one’s ever made it into the lab before.
██: It feels kinda wrong to let them die in there.

“Mother, why-why are you still awake?” (From Gustave if that is okay, @multistoty )
@multistoty
Christine hadn’t even realized her son’s presence until he spoke, usually she could hear when someone was coming down the hall or opened a door, especially since most were rather large and groaned when opened, but it seemed her own mind kept her too occupied to even notice that Gustave had entered the study.
Nine years ago, the young soprano had awoken to an empty bed after reuniting with her angel, the day before she had assumed that they’d start their new life together, only to find out he’d abandoned her during the night. No goodbye, no note, nothing. Well, nothing except the child, her dear Gustave, standing before her.
Every year since on the anniversary of his disappearance, Christine spent the day in a fog. Sometimes she’d wonder what went wrong, if there could’ve been anything she should’ve said or done so that he would have stayed. It was useless to think of such things, but she was still unable to let it go. In past years Gustave had been too young or too distracted to notice, but now it seemed he had caught on.
“I-I’m just a bit restless is all, haven’t been able to sleep very well lately.” She replied with a weak smile, gesturing for her son to sit down beside her on the sofa. “And I could ask the same of you, your bedtime was a few hours ago, what are you doing up?”

17. A memory of something they regret
Ninth graders had lunch at this hour, but Epel usually skipped. If not avoiding the cafeteria altogether, he would eat as quickly as possible, or take his food to go, sneaking away as soon as possible (sometimes he could even get a hall pass beforehand). He just hated being stared at... if he stayed in the cafeteria, even though he usually sat alone, he would often glance up at people staring at him.
He knew he was weird. Some people liked to look at him, but he wasn't what anybody expected, or what anyone wanted to deal with. He was the kid that wasn't from around here, that lived too far away to go visit, that couldn't hang out after school. He didn't ride the bus with anyone, and he couldn't relate to a lot of what people wanted to talk about, like popular media and celebrities, or even nerdy things like videogames and anime. He couldn't join any sports teams because of his availability, or any clubs for that matter. He just didn't fit in anywhere.
He probably hadn't made his reputation any better by getting into fights with people, but he'd much rather be known as someone not to mess with than someone that's an easy target. 'Careful what you say to that farmer kid' was better than 'That little farmer boy is so cute when he's mad'. Still, people continued to mess with him, probably because he gave them the reactions they were looking for... he wasn't shy about giving anyone a fight, especially since he had been on a winning streak latley.
It's not like everyone was mean to him, or that he didn't have a few acquaintances, but he wasn't close to anyone there. He was distant, at best, with his classmates.
That's why he really should have seen it coming.
He had gotten a note in his locker that someone wanted to meet him during lunch. He wasn't sure what it was about, but if someone wanted to fight, he wasn't gonna turn them down. And it's not like he had anything better to do, anyways.
As he turned the corner of their meeting place, he saw a guy standing alone with his hands in his pockets. He assumed he was who called him there.
"I'm here" he said, approaching him.
The guy turned around with a smile. "Ah, good! I'm glad you came." he looked down at Epel as he stood in front of him. "You see... aha, this is sort of embarrassing. But I guess I'll just say it. I like you, Epel."
Epel's eyes widened. Then narrowed.
What did he mean by that?
"Issit... embarrassin ta like me?" his brow furrowed. Honestly, why was he called all the way out here (the back of the school) just to hear that someone liked him. If he wanted to be friends in secret he could forget it, he wasn't going to hang around anyone that was ashamed to be seen with him.
"Ah, no, no! I guess I wasn't clear enough. I'm just embarrassed because I'm not good with things like this. I mean I like you... like that."
The confusion must have been evident on Epel's face. 'Like that'... the implication seemed like... boyfriend and girlfriend type liking? But Epel was a guy. He knew that, right?
"Imma boy." he responded flatly.
"I know! Ah, don't you like guys?" the other boy tilted his head. "I heard that you did. Am I wrong?"
People did say things like that about him, didn't they? Just because he looked feminine... He remembered going home and asking his meemaw what the F word meant, since he got called it a lot at school. She nearly fainted. That was in seventh grade.
He went to deny that he liked guys, but paused with his mouth open. Did he want to deny it? He had never really thought about how he felt about these things, honestly... it was easier to just ignore it, and he wasn't interested in dating anyone he had met anyways. But this guy knew he was a boy, and said he liked him anyways. Maybe he should be open to this opportunity?
"I... I dunno." He said honestly, shrugging. "I dunno who I like."
"Do you wanna find out?"
"What?" Epel looked up from the ground at him.
He smiled down at Epel, though his smile was... kind of off. "Do you wanna kiss me?"
Epel looked thoroughly shocked. Red began to tint his ears, and he broke eye contact. He really didn't know what to say right now.
The guy stepped closer. He lifted Epel's chin with a finger, then caressed his cheek with the same hand. "Come on."
Epel really wasn't thinking of anything at that moment. If you read his mind you would just hear static, and if you could see into his mind you would see a blank screen. Was this happening? Was he getting his first kiss? He wasn't prepared. But this guy told him that he liked him... maybe even wanted to even date him. Maybe...
He couldn't even breathe as the guy leaned in. Should he move? Did he want to stop?
He scrunched his eyes closed, heart beating fast, as their lips were about an inch away.
Laughter in his face.
His eyes snapped open. His stomach dropped.
The guy was laughing, laughing hard, and some people were laughing from behind the trees, too.
"I can't believe-- you actually thought--"
Epel was beyond ashamed.
"You were really gonna let me kiss you, I can't believe it!"
"I guess he isn't as scary as everyone thought. He looked really cute like that, did you see him blushing?"
"As if anyone would like a girly guy like that"
His stomach was doing backflips right now. His breathing quickened as he just stood there, tensed up, hot tears welling in his eyes.
"Look, look, isn't he crying?"
The guy that had given him a false confession raised his hand to wipe his tears. "Hey, don't cry. You look so cute that maybe I'll still let you kiss me, if--" he was on the ground before his hand could make contact again.
When Epel got home, he was disheveled and bloodstained, but only a small amount of the blood was his.
Epel was suspended after the guy and his friends went crying to the nurse, each of them sporting a bouquet of bruises by Epel, most of them bleeding too. Epel pointed out that they had been harassing him, but he wasn't keen on saying exactly what had happened, and the principal stated that they would not allow provocation to be responded to with violence. He should have controlled himself, he should have gotten a teacher, blah blah blah...
When he came back to school, people hadn't stopped looking at him. Some of them snickered at him behind their hands. Ninth grade was such a pain.
28. A memory that strains a relationship
The moonlight shone beautifully across the dark halls of Pomefiore. Epel would hope so, considering he had cleaned the windows between the two himself. He was dawdling, walking through these halls even though lights out was soon (if he hadn't missed the check already). Whatever. Vil was already mad at him anyways, and he wouldn't mind fighting again if yelling was off the table now.
He had been hanging out with Jinx, but Jinx had told him to go to his own room already, since curfew was soon. He didn't want to go back though. It's not like his roommates were bad people, but he didn't feel comfortable there-- he rarely felt comfortable anywhere these days. Jinx was probably the only reason he hadn't gone crazy, he thought idly... he couldn't even relax in his own room. This really wasn't the school life he had imagined.
The lounge light was still on. Were some students rebelling? He approached cautiously, not crossing the doorway, just trying to hear who was in there.
It was Rook's voice.
"Ah, but, Roi Du Poison, didn't the little pomette do spectacularly today?"
Epel scrunched up his face at the nickname.
"He managed." Vil spoke while going through some documents. "He would have done better if he had listened to me. Honestly, that child..."
"Is the spudling not in college now?" Rook smiled, not earnestly arguing. His tone was teasing.
"Well, he certainly acts like a child." Vil placed some papers down in a pile, organizing them in some way Epel didn't recognize. He looked tired.
Epel didn't know which he hated the idea of more. Vil seeing him as some stupid little kid, or as a project to be worked on.
He bit his lip, looking down in frustration. He didn't want to hear any more of this, turning on his heel to walk silently back to his room.
In the lounge, Rook looked at the doorway knowingly before returning his attention to Vil, whose back was towards the entrance. The smile never left his face.
Epel didn't hear Vil comment on how he had gotten stronger despite his tantrums, as he put them, nor did he hear how Vil was staying up working on training regimens that would better suit his dorm memebers. Instead, Epel went to bed with a bitter taste in his mouth, and dreamt only of being harrowingly small.
