Soulmates: “I do believe in [soulmates]. I mean, I think that there can be more than one. But I do believe that there’s that person that can feel so right. And I think you do know. You know pretty early when it’s the right person.” Gwyneth Paltrow
Far be it for me to argue with Gwyneth but she needs to look up the distinction between twinsouls/twinflames, soulmates/soulgroups and Karmic bonds. There are also soul ties also called esoteric tie or bonds. None of them are specifically meant for love and some people can't tell if they are in a soul bonded or karmic relationship.
That is where you get a condition called the "dark night of soul". It's not the only time you can have an unharmonious union or friendship with a soul bond. Sometimes both people are aware they are supposed to be in a relationship but one for some reason can't or has personal issues to work through before they can be in a successful relationship. Sometimes soulmates/soulgroups(i.e. friends) fight. Karmic bonds are the worse because there is a lesson to be learned. Like the woman who dates the same man(personality) in different bodies over and over again until she meets someone who has the Karmic bond and the ability to help her grow out of the pattern that allows her to correct the mistake she is making. She can then move forward with her life and find the path she should be on.
Soul ties and esoteric ties can also exist but in general these are the ties we place ourselves. The parent-child bond. Friends we make. People we work with, meet at school, and at play. These are simply the ties that bind us together. They show the path our live takes and can help us feel better. This happens when we gather with friends and family during times of darkness and despair.
There is also a down side to all of these type of ties because nature must have a balance. Not all these bonds are good. There are people that some would call psychic vampires. Generously, some of these people have no idea that they are doing this. Some do. These are the people that you feel happy and great when you are around them, but when they leave, you feel physically drained. They have enormous Charisma. They can command a stage. People gather around them at parties. If you think about it, you know someone like this. Everyone knows at least one.
There are reverse/"bad" versions of twinsouls/twinflames. Some call these false twinflames/twinsoul. A false twinflames/twinsoul is generally someone that you perceive to be your twinflames/twinsoul but is not. The reason the person becomes obsessed with this false twinflames/twinsoul is they are mistaking another type of bond, the karmic bond, or less often a soulmate bond for a twinflame/twinsoul bond. It is also possible this person is a esoteric drainer/psychic vampire. People who do have twinsoul/twinflame bonds emit massive amounts of psychic energy. This can present a temptation to someone who drains that type of energy.
One of Gwyneth's comments sticks with me. "You know pretty early when it’s the right person.” She is close but not right here. With a twinflame/twinsoul bond, it's instantaneous. You just know. People who get married within in one year. You know sometimes, when a friend is in a new relationship you ask them, "Is it love? Are they the One?" Someone in a Twinsoul/Twinflame bond will not even hesitate to say "Yes".
If they hesitate, it isn't a twinflame/twinsoul bond.
The Chaser/Runner- Sometimes in a twinflame/twinsoul bond you have a situation called the chaser and the runner. This happens when one of the two souls has a karmic soul bond that hasn't formed yet and is needed before they meet their twinflame/twinsoul to be the best they can be.
The purpose of the relationship is also important to mention. Twinsouls/twinflames are put together for the purpose of helping the world. There is a difference between twinflames and twinsouls. Both bonds are meant to generally be helpful. Twinsouls help within their community. You will find them helping at soup kitchens, volunteering at hospitals, nursing homes, churches, etc. Twinflames have the greater purpose of putting the world on a path that is the least destructive and the leading people to be their highest self. You find Twinsouls in poistions of fame and power doing great works. They start charities, help clean the environment, start protest movements all while being leaders to the people. To speak simply, twinsouls work locally, twinflames work globally. Not all people doing this work are twinflame/twinsouls but all twinflame/twinsouls will do this work.
It is also important to note that even though these relationships are destined, that does not mean they will not fight or stay together. A good example of this is Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. They were meant to be but kept fighting the bond. You can fight against these kind of bonds if you want to. It is painful and take a lot of effort but it can be done.
It is very easy to mistake a false twinflames/twinsoul with a chaser/runner. An important thing to note about any type of soul bonds.
IT CAN NEVER BE FORCED, CAJOLED OR ARTIFICIALLY INDUCED. IT IS NATURAL AS BREATHING. IF IT ISN'T, THAN IT ISN'T A SOUL BOND.
Hopefully, this clears up some of the wrong information out there.

masterlist // one-shot masterlist
-----------------------------------------------
Mornings were always the best for you. You loved getting things done and then having the rest of the day to relax or do whatever your heart desired. It was probably one of the reasons you loved working at a café, that and the free coffee and pastries.
Doughnut was the name of the café, named after the owner’s famous doughnuts she handmakes every morning before opening. Nayeon and Jihyo owned the café and were also some of your closest friends. You had gone to school with them, and the rest of their soulgroup.
There were nine people total within their soulgroup, and you were happy that they were able to complete their soulgroup so early in life. Most people don’t find their soulmates until their twenties, others were lucky enough to grow up with theirs.
Unfortunately for you, you had yet to meet any of the people whose name’s live on your wrist. There were seven names, and you had yet to even hear of them in your twenty-five years. It had you losing hope, but you had faith that you would meet them soon.
“Good morning, Kitty!” Nayeon yelled out to you as soon as you walked in through the back door. She had been calling you that since you were six, since the day you walked into first grade with your favorite stuffed animal: a black cat plushie.
“Good morning, Bunnie!” You yelled back, seeing her working on getting the fresh batch of pastries and sweets out on the shelf. It was your turn to bake the cookies, hence why you were at the café at 4:30 in the morning.
You set out to make coffees first, two for you for Nayeon and one for Sana who would be coming in at five. Once you handed Nayeon her coffee, and after hearing her mumble her thanks, you set out to get the cookie dough you had let freeze over night for easier handling. You spent all day yesterday working on making cookie dough. You made chocolate chip, peanut butter, and sugar cookie dough.
Your sugar cookies were a huge selling point, besides the doughnuts. You spent hours before opening individualizing each cookie, making different characters and designs. You loved seeing the faces of the little kids who come into the shop and pick out one of your cookies. It was a fun hobby for you and you loved the payoff of the business you receive from them.
Once you had a couple batches in the oven to bake and the time set, you moved back to the front to help Sana, who had just arrived, clean and set up the café. It was a smaller café, only around eight or nine small tables and twice as many chairs, but it was your friend groups pride and joy. All ten of you worked there, varying shifts and times.
You, Nayeon, and Jihyo worked the most shifts, as this was your baby. The others all had their own things going on, but never failed to take on one or two shifts a week at the café. It led to many fun times, and lots of happy memories that littered the walls in the form of polaroids.
“Okay my friends, we open in thirty minutes. Let’s have another good day and make even more friends!” Nayeon shouted out, getting your attention as she stood with her hands in the air.
When it was time to open, you already had a couple of customers waiting outside, two of your regulars who had been coming in every morning since you opened three years ago. You actually already had their order ready for them at the counter, two hot chocolates with caramel and two of Nayeon’s chocolate glazed doughnuts.
“Thanks again, deary.” The wife, Mrs. Chang, smiled up at you as you rang in their total. Mr. and Mrs. Chang were two of the sweetest people you had ever met.
“It’s no problem Mrs. Chang. You know we love seeing you both every morning.” You smile back at her, meaning every word. You loved seeing your regulars and learning how their day has been.
“Have you heard about the robberies going on?” Mr. Chang speaks up, a hint of worry in his tone as he looks to the side and out the window. Your eyebrows furrow in confusion as you take in his words.
“No, Mr. Chang. We haven’t heard anything.” You hand him the change as he motions for his wife to grab their usual table.
“There has been a couple robberies over the past week, most of them taking place downtown in the shopping district but we still worry about you all.” He places a hand on top of your own that rest on the counter.
“Thank you for that, Mr. Chang. I will talk to Nayeon and Jihyo and see if we can’t figure out some more safety measures.” You try to smile reassuringly at the older gentleman, not quite sure what you could do, but it seems to work as he smiles back and nods his head.
“Good. I wouldn’t want anything to happen to our favorite girls.” He grabs his hot chocolate and goes to sit down.
His words had you kind of worried, wondering if at some point the robberies would make their way to where you were located. You hoped that the college district was far enough away that you were safe. You looked over to the measly double lock that the front door had and moved to turn to Sana.
“We need to figure out our budget and see what kind of safety measures we can add to the building.” Sana quirks her head at you, questioning your statement. You lead her to the back where Nayeon was and explain to them what Mr. Chang said.
They were also a little worried, Nayeon telling you both she would talk to Jihyo and look at the budget to see what you all could do. That was all you could really do for the moment without looking at the numbers so with that you all went back to work.
It was a normal day, the flow ebbing off around eleven but returning around one when classes let out for the science building at the local university. That meant rush hour for your café as the crowds of students came for caffeine refuels or sweets to tide them over.
This meant that it was time for Dahyun, Momo and Jeongyeon’s shift. They would be taking over for you and Sana as it was Nayeon’s day to run the shop. You both were going to meet Chaeyoung for lunch as she had a free period before her next class.
“Bye Bunnie! By Hyunie! By Yeongie! By Momo!” You and Sana both shouted out in unison, your normal departure ritual, each earning bye’s in return as the door closed behind you.
The two of you walked the couple blocks it would take to get to the restaurant.
“You know, you should get out more, like take up a yoga or painting class or something.” Sana was nonchalant as she suggested. The soulgroup had been trying to get you out of your hole for years. They thought you spent too much time in the shop or at home.
“You don’t need to worry about me. Getting out isn’t really my…thing.” You shrugged in response. It was true, you were completely content with just relaxing at home or being at the café. You weren’t the person to party or drink. It just wasn’t something you enjoyed.
“It’s just, the more places you go to, or things you do, the more likely it is you’ll meet your soulmates.” She explains with a saddened tone. They all hated watching you retreat into your shell. They knew that you thought it was too late for you to meet your soulmates and noticed how you stared at your soulmark when you thought no one was looking.
They just wanted you to be happy.
“That’s why I’m doing what I’m comfortable with. I’m going with you and Chaeyoungie to lunch and we’ll be there to hang out.” You appreciate their love and friendship, but you aren’t comfortable with putting yourself out there, even if it is to find your soulmates.
“And I’m happy you are going!” Sana squeals as she wraps her arms around your shoulders. “You never go to lunch with us!” She wasn’t wrong. It had been a long time since you had gone to lunch with one of your friends. You usually brought lunch with you and ate it in the back or went home to eat.
Within another five minutes you had made it to the restaurant, seeing Chaeyoung wave at you from her window seat. It seemed she made it early to grab you guys a table.
You smiled wide as you saw your younger friend. You both shared the same birthday; you only being born a year before. You bonded quickly over that, dubbing yourself the ‘birthday twins” after meeting.
“Youngie!!”
“Y/n-ie!” You both run to her, almost crashing into each other as you wrap your arms around your friend. You hadn’t seen her for a week, you both being busy with work and school.
When you let go, Sana was already at the table looking at the menu. Chaeyoung drags you over and has you sit next to her as she goes to hand you a menu as well.
“Okay so I already got our drinks. They should be coming soon.” Chaeyoung broke the silence from you looking at the menu. You hadn’t been to this restaurant before, but you know the girls frequented it a lot.
“So, what have you been up to Youngie?” You turn to her and ask.
“I’ve been finishing up my sculpture! It is almost done and I think I only need one or two more sessions before I can start glazing it.” Chaeyoung is in the middle of getting her art degree and is taking a ceramics class for the first time.
She was nervous when she first started, so you were happy to see her getting excited about it now that a couple months have passed. She was also in a photography course, which you knew she was even more excited for.
“What is your sculpture going to be?” You ask as your drinks arrive.
“She won’t tell us. She says it’s supposed to be a surprise.” Sana states, narrowing her eyes at her younger mate, a teasing glint in her voice. Chaeyoung begins to blush at her mate’s tone, rolling her eyes dramatically to deflect.
“Because it is. I wouldn’t have to keep it a secret if someone didn’t break my last sculpture on accident.” Chaeyoung accuses, looking directly at Sana as she spoke.
“Hey! It wasn’t my fault that Jihyo accidentally knocked into the vase!”
“Yes it was! If you weren’t trying to bite her shoulder then she wouldn’t have fallen into my vase!” You looked back and forth between the two, excitedly watching the drama unfold as the two continued on.
However, despite the growing entertainment, your stomach was rumbling with hunger and you needed to get food into your system or you were going to cry. You look around for your waiter only to notice something sticking out the back of a man’s jacket. It was black and shiny and had your nerves standing on end.
You looked up to see if you could recognize the man only for him to already be looking at you, a smirk resting on his lips as he winks at you. Your eyes widen as he moves to place his finger on his lips, a “be quiet” gesture.
You quickly turn to Sana and Chaeyoung who were still arguing over whose fault the broken vase was.
“We need to leave. Now.” Your quiet voice and urgent tone as their own figures freezing, turning to look at you to see you visibly shaken.
“What’s going on Y/n?” Sana asks you, leaning in closer to you over the table. You open your mouth to respond only for a scream of terror to cut you off.
You move to yank your friends under the table with you, hearing the words “freeze” and “get down” yelled all throughout the restaurant. Once you know that your friends are okay, huddled together under the table, you risk your courage and move slowly to peer out from under your cover.
There were three men standing up, guns in hand and aimed at who appears to be the owner of the restaurant. You can hear your ears ringing as you watch the scene play out in front of you.
“We told you. Boss gave you three weeks to give him the money back you owe him.” The one in front spoke, his voice slightly pitchy but nonetheless attractive as he spoke up, tone cold as he cocks his gun at the trembling man.
“I—I’m sorry Sirs! I’ll get you the money. I swear!” The man cries out, only for a gun shot to ring out.
One of the employees was trying to crawl past the men, passed you and to the door. You couldn’t look away as the man tried to crawl to you, hand grabbing onto your forearm where your marks were.
“help plea…” Another shot rang out as the man fell to the ground. You gasped, moving your hand to cover your mouth as you looked to your other, blood now smeared across your soulmarks as his hand continued to clutch onto you.
You could feel the tears falling down your cheeks as you look at the man, the life gone from his eyes as they now stare, unblinkingly at you. You could vaguely hear Chaeyoung and Sana calling your name, can feel the tugging on your shit stop once the footsteps start.
One of the men was now kneeling down in front of you, yanking the man’s arm off of you and grabbing you to stand up. He had a grin on his face, barely concealed by his lips moving.
“Poor baby. Let’s just clean that up.” He pulls you in the direction of the other men, both wearing their own smiles as they watch their partner drag you.
He pulls you and makes you stand in front of the owner, still crying as the guns aimed at him never faulted. He steadies you upright, hands on your shoulders as he make you face the owner.
“Can our sweetheart here clean up in the back? She’s got a little something on her arm.” Both you and the owner glance down at your arm, the reminder of red making more tears pool in your eyes. The man looks at you with a worried look, “sorry” written all over his features as he points to the back.
“Speak up!” One of the men behind you speaks, tone sharp as the owner jumps in his boots.
“You can go through there. The sink is to the right.”  He cries out, fists clenched to his sides as the man walks you forward past the counter where the man was standing. You can see his hand moving out, only for it to snap back to his side.
“Don’t touch her!” The same man shouts, a slight growl to his tone this time, like he was speaking through anger.
The one in the middle, the main leader it seemed, still hasn’t spoken. He just stares hard at the owner, almost begging him to move and give him the chance to shoot. It was unnerving as you had a full view of his face as you tried to scrub the blood off your forearm.
The man who grabbed you still stood behind you, flush against your back with his hands on your shoulders. You had no clue what he was doing or looking at, but you had to bite your lip to hold back your sobs.
“Do you need some help there, baby?” His voice was right next to your ear, causing you to flinch a little. The man just chuckled before reaching for your arm. You knew you couldn’t say no, couldn’t deny him when they had guns aimed at everyone.
You let him move you around so he could face you. While he was scrubbing at your mark, you took the time to study his appearance. He wore a long black coat that seemed designer from how nice the material looked. He was wearing jeans and some nice boots. His face though, was otherworldly.
He was beautiful. Ethereal even. His features were sharp, as if sculpted by the gods. He had a mole on his nose and if you looked closely enough, you could see one under his eye. He seemed to be smiling as he cleaned your arm, paying closer attention to one of the names on your mark, rubbing it with his thumb.
Once the blood was cleaned up, he held your hand in his and stood back up. You watched him nod to his partners who then got busy. Within seconds the owner was shot, and two of the employees who were there were in similar states, screams of terror and panic sounding from the eating area.
The man holding your hand had moved you passed the owner, making you step over him instead of moving around. You noticed Chaeyoung and Sana watching you with tear marks stained to their faces. You wanted to move to them, reassure them you were okay, but you didn’t know if that was true.
“Hello darling. Sorry about the mess.” The man who shot the owner was now smiling down at you, his smirk turning to a smile as he moves his hand to cup your cheek.
Jimin almost coos at you as he watches you shake. You didn’t even realize who they were. You were probably too focused on your fear to feel the tingles running up your spine at their hands touching you.
You can’t even speak you were petrified. Jimin knew you wouldn’t be like that for much longer, not when they brought you back. But it had to wait for now. There were too many witnesses and Namjoon would kill him if they harmed you in any way.
“Don’t worry, everything will be okay.” He squeezed your cheek in his grip before reluctantly pulling away.
“Are these your friends?” Your heart skipped as he gestured to Sana and Chaeyoung who were frozen, watching the scene in front of them. You nodded your head only for the tallest man to chuckle.
“Use your words, darling.” You couldn’t tell if the shiver you felt was from fear or something entirely different but nodded again.
“Yes sir. They are my friends.” You managed to whisper after trying to clear your throat.
“Good girl.” The leader spoke in your ear before turning back to your friends, motioning for them to stand up. They both slowly stood up, limbs locked from fear as they clung to each other.
“Now, why don’t you make sure our darling here gets home safe. We don’t want any more blood on her hands.” The men laugh at the joke, but the humor doesn’t reach you nor does it reach any other person in the building. You can still see one or two more customers hiding behind tables, watching everything unfold.
You don’t know why you were singled out, nor why the men smiled at you the way they did, but you figured they were just sick, finding everything funny as if they didn’t just shoot four people dead.
Jimin let everyone go free, knowing they couldn’t identify them even if they tried. No one would believe them anyways. They had the cameras shut down over an hour before they even arrived, Yoongi doing his job and more as he is probably already uncovering everything about you.
The three of them watch you walk out, shaking as you cling to your friends.
“She’ll be clinging to us soon enough.” Jungkook wraps an arm around Jimin’s waist, knowing exactly what his older mate was thinking. Taehyung nods his head in agreement.
“She had her eyes practically glued to me the entire time I was holding her. She even started to relax in my hold, not that she noticed.” Jimin quirked his eyebrow, smiling as he opened the door to the car.
“Such a sweet little thing. I know Jin is going to love her.” They all laugh, knowing just how much Jin is going to love their innocent soulmate.
“Probably won’t let her leave. He’ll keep her with him the first couple months maybe, spoil her rotten.” Jungkook quips back, a knowing glint to his eyes as he remembers his own first couple of months with his soul group.
“Oh, like you weren’t sucking his dick two months in!” Taehyung exclaimed, his head hitting the passenger side window as Jimin takes a sharp turn. Jungkook just shrugs his shoulders.
“Yeah, so. What’s your point?” Rolling his eyes, Jimin just reaches for his phone, hitting the first speed dial.
“Hey baby, we’ve found her.”
-*-*-
“Someone get her blanket for her!” You were pushed onto your sofa as Jihyo yelled out, motioning for your favorite blanket. It was a light blue, worn down from use but still felt as soft as the day you got it. You had brought it with you through three different moves and almost losing it to your grandmother’s dog a couple years back.
It was your comfort item and if there was ever a time where you needed it, it would be now.
Chaeyoung managed to text the group chat a SOS message, letting them know what happened. And while they were all worried for everyone, Sana made sure to let them know exactly what happened when you got to your apartment and everyone was waiting for you.
“Here you go, Bunnie.” Nayeon handed you your blanket before taking her seat next to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and almost bringing you into her lap. They were all scared and worried for you.
“Why you? Out of everyone in the restaurant? Why you?” Jeongyeon asked the most obvious question, something the others didn’t really want to think about.
“It was weird. Once the man started crawling to her, I noticed the robbers get really angry, like visibly shaking before one of them shot the man.” Chaeyoung spoke up from her place on Mina’s lap. Her voice quiet as she goes through her memory of the events.
“And then one of them walked up to her, pulled her up and helped her clean her arm of the uh, of the blood.” Sana choked out, adding onto what Chaeyoung was saying.
“Did they say anything to you Y/n?” Momo asked, leaning on her knees as she moves so she can look directly at you.
“They just…kept trying to take care of me, calling me pet names and asking if I was okay.” You were unsure of everything that happened. You felt like your brain was making things up, trying to twist the events so you weren’t traumatized. You almost felt like you were lying to yourself.
However, one thing stuck in your head, no matter how many times you tried to forget about it.
“When the man helped me clean my arm, he kept rubbing at my soulmark.” Your words stump the others, shock moving through your friends as you stare at the pillow on your lap. No one knew what to say or think.
“He was probably just shocked by the number of names on your mark. You know it’s not really common to have a huge soulgroup like we do.” Nayeon reassured you. She knew exactly where your mind was going.
You were wondering if these men were your soulmates. No one besides regulars at work have ever been that caring and nice upon meeting you, especially when they were robbing the establishment where you were eating.
“Yeah, let’s not worry about it. They probably just saw an opportunity to make someone uncomfortable and took it.” Dahyun agreed with Nayeon, but her reassurance was light, as if she wasn’t really sure she believed her own words.
“How about this, let’s just order some pizza and watch movies. A girls night, like when we were younger. It’ll get your mind off of everything.” Tzuyu’s quiet voice spoke up in the silence, watching all of her unnies stew in their worry. She knew there was nothing they could do for now, so they needed a distraction.
“That’s sounds great baby! I’ll order our usual.” Jihyo gets up from her spot and moves to grab her phone while Dahyun and Jeongyeon crawl form their positions on your floor to your bookshelf, all of your movies lined up on the black piece of furniture.

Marks on Your Body, Marks on Your Soul
Summary: Wind was part of the largest soulmate group that Outset Island had seen in nearly a century. There were eight people in his soulgroup. Nine, including him. Eight corresponding little marks were inked onto the skin of his forearm. Eight precious marks that symbolized that he was going to be so, so loved.
(Read on AO3 here) (There's also a bonus Warriors angst scene in the notes that I couldn't fit into the fic)
~~~
Wind was part of the largest soulmate group that Outset Island had seen in nearly a century. There were eight people in his soulgroup. Nine, including him. Eight corresponding little marks were inked onto the skin of his forearm. Eight precious marks that symbolized that he was going to be so, so loved.
In another rarity, not one of his eight soulmates lived on Outset Island. It was a small island, and while Wind hadn’t seen everyone’s soulmarks- some people liked to keep them private- they wouldn’t have been able to keep it a secret. Everyone knew everyones’ business on Outset. If one of the island’s residents was one of Wind’s soulmates, the rumors of someone else with eight soulmarks would have spread to him when he was still a young child.
So, Wind was an anomaly, but he didn’t mind. Those eight little marks that symbolized his soulmates were something to be cherished, even if they made him an oddity.
His first soul mark, the one nearest to his hand, was some kind of red bird with its wings stretched wide in flight. Wind had never seen a bird like that before, and even his Granny didn’t recognize it. Wind thought it must mean that this soulmate was from some faraway island with animals and birds that no one on Outset Island had ever seen before.
The next seemed to be a coin of some sort. It was split into four sections, with each section a different color, green, blue, red, and purple. It looked nothing like the rupees Wind was familiar with, but maybe this soulmate was from a distant land too?
Below the coin was a simple blue ocarina. Wind wondered what it meant or symbolized, Perhaps they were a musician? Wind had always smiled at the thought. He always loved listening to music, even if he couldn’t play an instrument himself. Maybe his soulmate would teach him how to play!
Next was a profile of the dog's head, thrown back and mouth open as if caught in the moment of a triumphant howl. (Something had always rubbed him wrong, thinking about this mark as a dog. It looked like a dog, but something about that seemed off to Wind. This animal was no tame beast.)
The next mark was a small pink rabbit, sitting up on its hind legs. Wind’s Granny had cooed over this particular mark plenty of times when he was a child, remarking that whoever it belonged to must be a very kind individual. Wind wasn’t so sure about that, the rabbit might be cute, but the way it defiantly stared back at Wind made him think twice about calling this soulmate soft.
Below the rabbit was a picture of a fairy. It was green, which was an unusual color for a fairy, but other than that looked pretty standard. Maybe this soulmate was a healer?
Next was a silver sword, wrapped in a piece of blue fabric. It was the most cryptic mark of them all, revealing the least about the person it belonged to, other than the fact perhaps they were good at fighting. Wind wondered, often, what the blue fabric symbolized.
The last mark, which was nearly nestled into the crook of his elbow, was a bow with an arrow drawn and ready to fire. When Wind had been young, he’d thought the mark was laid over a background of red. When he’d grown up, though, he realized that it wasn't simply a background of red, it was blood, a large splatter of blood. That mark had always made his Granny nervous, but it had never bothered Wind.
He’d spent long hours staring at these marks in wonder as he grew up. Daydreams of what his soulmates would be like were constant. Every time a ship arrived at Outset with new people aboard, Wind would be there, trying to sneak a glimpse of their forearms. Even the trading ships that came biweekly would draw Wind down to the docks, just in case there was someone new aboard he hadn’t met before- someone who shared seven of the same marks with him.
Of course, if his marks were romantic none of the sailors would ever be his soulmates as they were much older than Wind. But with such a large soulgroup, odds were that his bonds were platonic, and there were no age restrictions for platonic soulmates.
~~~
With such a large group of soulmates, Wind couldn’t just refer to them as “his soulmates.” It quickly became cumbersome, when speaking about his soulmarks, to constantly have to clarify which one he meant. It didn’t take long for him to come up with nicknames.
It wasn’t a strange thing to do, especially for those who had more than one soulmark.
Feathers, for the red bird. Then Coin, Ocarina, and Doggy, which soon evolved into Dog as he grew older. Bunny, which quickly became Rabbit.
Flicker for the fairy, after that way fairies flitted around when they flew, and the way their light would flicker like a candle. And finally, Sword and Bow. Most of the nicknames were simplistic and not at all creative but Wind had been four when he’d made them, so he cut himself some slack.
~~~
When Wind is seven, Dog’s soulmark changes.
It’s an insane thing to say- soulmarks don’t change. The only change that a mark should ever undergo was fading away to gray when your soulmate died. Other than that, they were set in stone.
But it was undeniable. One day when he went to sleep, the mark was of a brown dog. When he woke up, the dog was gray, with new markings that hadn’t been there before. Startled by the change, he ran to show his Granny.
At first, she’d been horrified to hear her grandchild shouting about a changed soumark and see unexpected gray on his arm. But it soon became apparent that the mark had not faded to death-gray. The eyes of the animal were still a brilliant blue.
His Granny had scrubbed at his forearm in a basin of water so hard his arm had turned red. When she finally admitted that the mark truly had changed, and Wind hadn’t simply managed to color it somehow, she had insisted he not tell anyone of this development, not even his little sister.
Frightened by her intensity, Wind had agreed.
Granny inspected his marks daily after that. It took months for her to be satisfied they would stay the way they were.
~~~
A year later, Wind noticed that Flicker’s mark had changed as well. Previously, it had been a simple fairy. Now, the yellow symbol of the triforce glimmered faintly from the center of the fairy’s glow. It was barely noticeable unless you squinted.
Wind, remembering how Granny had fretted and stressed over Dog’s soulmark, kept his mouth shut. The yellow of the triforce was so subtle that no one who wasn’t closely inspecting it would notice it, so he was able to keep this new change secret, even from his grandmother.
~~~
The night before Wind turned twelve, he lay awake shivering in bed. It wasn’t a cold night- quite the opposite, in fact.
But something felt… wrong.
It felt like someone was watching him. He’d checked and it wasn’t Arryl, who was deeply asleep. Granny was sleeping in the other room, so it wasn’t her. Still, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was very wrong.
With nothing to justify the dread he was feeling, Wind lay awake in bed, unable to sleep. He drew his blanket over his head like he was five again and hiding from monsters. The feeling of dread persisted, not allowing him to slip into the comfort of sleep.
As his mind often did in quiet, solitary moments like these, it turned toward the topic of his soulmarks. Since the changes in two of his marks nearly six years ago, he’d grown to understand just how strange the fact that his marks had changed was.
Wind had never heard of anyone’s marks changing. When he was eight, he’d gotten it in his mind to run around Outset Island and ask everyone he could find if they’d ever heard stories about soulmarks changing. The answers were always a resounding no.
When Granny had eventually heard what he’d been doing, she'd given him a stern reprimand. He understood now why she was so strict about not telling people that his marks had changed. People weren’t kind to those they saw as different or strange. It was probably a very fortunate thing no one had ever noticed the change in his marks.
Wind didn’t know what people would do if they noticed, but he couldn’t imagine it would be pretty.
Wind worried about his marks often. He worried about what might happen if someone noticed that two of them had changed. (Unlikely after all this time, but all it would take was one person who had been there when Wind was born and had inspected his marks asking why the dog wasn’t brown like they remembered.)
He worried about what it meant that Dog and Flicker’s marks had changed. Was it possible that they would change again in the future? Would his other marks change? Was it possible that the marks had changed because the gods had messed up his marks, and maybe he wasn’t meant to be with these soulmates after all?
Wind had nightmares, sometimes. That one day he would wake up and his marks would be gone. That he would meet his soulmates, and they wouldn't have any mark representing him on their forearms.
He tried his best to ignore those dreams.
When midnight had long since come and gone and the feeling of dread and anticipation still haunted him, Wind thought it might be a good idea to clear his head. The night air might help. Maybe he should head to the lookout, he thought. He would be able to watch the stars easier from there, and no one would bother him if he ended up falling asleep.
~~~
Wind turned twelve, and everything went horribly, utterly wrong.
After Arryl had been taken and he’d set out on his quest to save her, Wind hadn’t bothered to look at his soulmarks much. He didn’t forget they were there! No one could forget their soulmates.
It was just… they’d become less important in the face of the possibility of losing his sister. She was out there, possibly in danger, possibly dead, and Wind was pretty sure his soulmarks weren’t going to go away anytime soon. He hadn’t even met any of them yet. He couldn’t afford to spend his time thinking about them when he didn’t even know what they looked like.
Then he’d gone to Fire Mountain to get the power bracelets.
Even with the aid of the ice arrows that kept the volcano from erupting, the heat was nearly unbearable. It felt like if he stayed on the island for too long, the very air itself would burn his skin.
That didn’t happen, thankfully. But what did happen was almost worse.
Fighting off the fire bats so he could reach the power bracelets had been the most annoying part of the island. There were several of them, coming one right after another, but they weren’t that strong. He’d been careless, more focused on avoiding plunging himself into lava than the swooping bats overhead.
His carelessness had earned him a few burns. He hadn’t thought much about the burns at the time besides pushing away the pain. Getting the power bracelets and getting out before the ice arrows wore off was more important than fussing over some small injuries.
Later, when his adrenaline had faded and he was safe enough to look over his injuries, he realized where exactly the burns were, and Wind had never felt more horrified and sick to his stomach in his life. The burn wrapped around the back of Wind’s left arm. One edge of the burned skin stopped less than a quarter of an inch away from Rabbit’s mark.
Wind ended up using the only fairy he had to heal the burns. It was a waste of resources, probably, but Wind couldn't help it. He hadn’t wanted to heal it naturally and risk infection or something similar worsening the injury. He couldn’t live with the possibility of it leaving a scar. He couldn’t risk it. Not so close to one of his marks.
What would happen if the burn had been placed just a few inches to the right? It could have ruined Rabbit’s mark. It wouldn’t have affected his bond with his soulmate.
He’d heard stories about people whose marks got burned off or scarred over before- it wasn’t something that was unheard of. In many of the stories, the injured party still managed to find their soulmate in the end, but it was more difficult to do so when you didn’t have a mark for your soulmate to identify with. It left the burden of finding your soulmate entirely on you, saddling you with the responsibility of recognizing the mark that represented you.
It also left you with no way to tell if your soulmate had died.
After that, Wind started to pay more attention while he fought. He was more careful with guarding his left arm, and he inspected his marks more often. Just as reassurance. Just to remind him that even if everything went wrong, somewhere out in the world there were eight people waiting for him.
~~~
It was this new caution that led him to discover an interesting quirk of Coin’s soulmark. Wind was sure this was a recent development, as he would have noticed this when he was a kid and still enamored with his soulmarks.
Wind had never heard of anything like this happening, but… his fourth soulmark changed, sometimes. He was sure of it- had even seen it happen once. The difference was so small that no one besides himself would ever notice, and he kept his mouth shut about it.
He knew two of his other marks had changed when he was little, but for the most part, Wind was able to delude himself. Perhaps he had misremembered the color of the dog or had simply never noticed the triforce hidden in the green fairy until he was eight. Perhaps those marks hadn’t changed at all.
But this…
He couldn’t lie to himself about this.
He didn’t know what it meant, but every so often, the four sections of the coin would separate, showing the smallest sliver of his skin between the marks, clearly showing that there were four separate soulmarks instead of the usual one.
He didn’t know what it meant, but the mark always fused back together eventually, so Wind hoped everything would be fine. It was just one more thing to ask his soulmates about when he finally found them.
In his mind, Wind started thinking that having eleven soulmates instead of eight would be pretty cool, if a little overwhelming, but he kept that thought to himself.
(If he started having nightmares about his faceless soulmate getting ripped limb from limb until they were torn into four pieces and left in a bloody pile, then he kept that to himself, too)
~~~
When Wind discovered that Bow’s mark had gone gray, it was the worst hours of his life.
He’d checked his marks over carefully in the morning- noting that the second mark was once again split into four- and had been satisfied with them. They were all as they should be. They had been free of blemishes, with colors just as vibrant as they had been the night before.
Later that morning, Wind was working on tying up the sail on his little boat. The storm clouds on the horizon didn't look promising, and he needed to get the rigging all tied down before the storm hit. As he gave one last tug on the rope, he happened to catch a glimpse of his forearm, and the sight of gray near his elbow startled him completely out of his concentration.
Dropping the rope he’d been using to secure the sails, Wind grasped at his arm. His eyes hadn’t been deceiving him- his last mark was no longer bright and colorful. The bright red of the blood and the brown of the bow had been leached away, leaving the mark a sickly gray.
Breath caught in his throat and he staggered, a soft keen escaped him without permission.
He’d heard of this happening before- marks fading to death-gray before a person had even met their soulmate. It was always a sad tale when someone was killed before their time, and left behind grieving partners who didn’t even have a name or face to go with the gray mark.
And now Wind would be one of those people, forever left wondering about that last mark. It would stay with him for the rest of his life, a horrible reminder of the pain his soulmate no doubt suffered before their untimely death.
Wind didn’t know how long the mark had been gray by the time he noticed. How long had one of his soulmates been gone from this world, while he had remained blissfully unaware?
His heart sank into his stomach as he slowly sank to his knees. He felt more alone than he ever has, alone on his boat. His sister was gone, his Granny unconsolable to the point of being nearly unresponsive, he hadn't met any of his soulmates, and one of them was dead.
Wind sat alone in the bottom of his boat, the rain beating against his form. The waves were tall. Wind could faintly feel them tossing the boat around, but couldn’t muster up the energy to care.
Let the waves take him. What was the point? One of his soulmates was gone! Before Wind had even gotten the chance to meet them, they were gone.
In the dim light of the storm, everything looked gray, so it took a while to realize that the bow mark was changing again. The realization came to Wind slowly as he stared at his arm blankly but when it did, Wind whined, squeezing his eyes shut.
Why couldn't the gods just let him be? Why did his marks keep changing? Were his soulmates with monsters? Shifting abominable creatures that couldn't stay consistent even after they died? Were the gods refusing to let his soulmate rest even after they died?
Why why why?
It took even longer for Wind to gain the courage to open his eyes and look at the marks again. When he did, it registered that the mark wasn’t simply changing. It was regaining its color.
The relief that slammed into Wind was what finally broke the dam in his mind. The numbness that had crashed over him when he realized that one of his marks had faded finally broke, and Wind cried. He cried from the relief, the pain, the worry, panic, and grief he’d felt.
Wind wondered if any of his other soulmates had noticed that the Bow had gone gray. Had Rabbit cried? Did Feather drop whatever they were doing to find a private place to grieve? Had Blue screamed when they saw?
By the time Wind had uncurled and started taking in the outside world again, the storm had long since passed. The King of Red Lions was able to guide the boat through the treacherous waves safely, but without Wind’s help, they’d been blown miles off course. Wind didn’t even care.
His soulmate was safe- safe, safe, safe, they were safe, he had the mark to prove it- and alive. That was all Wind needed to know.
Most of the rest of the day was spent clutching at his forearm and staring at the last mark in alternating horror and relief. Slowly, the horror abated, leaving a sharp flash of indignant anger in its wake.
How dare one of Wind’s soulmates nearly die before meeting him? That was totally unfair of them. Wind was so going to punch them in the arm when they met as payback for scaring him so much.
~~~
For once, Wind hadn’t heard of the arrival of a new ship before it made landfall on Outset Island. He was notified by a kid running up to Granny’s house in the morning, yelling something and banging excitedly on the door.
Wind was the one to open the door, looking down at the kid in confusion. He’d seen him before, running around the island, but couldn’t for the life of him remember the kid’s name.
As far as Wind knew, they weren’t expecting any visitors. It was late afternoon, early enough to assume everyone would be awake, but still too early to be calling on your neighbors without giving warning. Scenarios of pirates (the unhonorable kind) attacking the island, or someone getting hurt or even dying flooded Wind’s mind. Anything that would make someone come calling this early.
At the unasked question in Wind’s eyes, the kid, who was nearly shaking in excitement nearly yelled that there was a strange group of people on the island, and that they were looking for him.
When the kid finally got around to saying the group consisted of eight people, a shock of anxiety shot through Wind. Was it possible? After all this time?
Wind was still only fourteen and all told, that was a young age to meet all your soulmates, but Wind felt so much older. He’d been through so much, sometimes he felt ancient. And he’d done it all without the aid of his soulmates.
It would be strange to finally meet them now, if these strangers truly were his soulmates.
The kid was still looking at him expectantly, eyes wide in excitement. Everyone on Outset knew about Wind’s soulmates. Even if they hadn’t gotten a good look at Wind’s soulmarks, they knew. Having a group of soulmarks that big was going to make you a constant source of gossip.
The gossip could have spread beyond Outset, and if there was a soulgroup of eight looking for their ninth soulmate, those rumors might have been enough to bring them here.
Wind did his best to keep a straight face, even as he was screaming inside. It probably didn’t work. Granny had always said he had a horrible poker face, and she was right. There was no way that he could hide the shock, hope, and excitement that crossed his face.
Wind quickly thanked the kid and slammed the door shut, but not before the kid ran off, no doubt to spread the gossip to everyone else on the island. Shoving the thought out of his mind, Wind ran to put on some acceptable clothes. There was no way he was meeting people who might be his soulmates while he was still in his pajamas.
He tore through the house to his and Arryl’s room, earring a shocked exclamation from Granny, who was sitting in the main room working on her knitting. Wind ignored her questions about who was at the door.
Arryl- who was still asleep after staying up too late last night- murmured sleepily as Wind slammed the door open, but was quickly soothed back to sleep by his assurances. It took Wind longer than it usually did for him to choose what to wear that day. He had to look nice if he was going to meet his soulmates.
By the time he ran back out of the room, his Granny no longer looked confused. No doubt more of their neighbors had stopped by to inform her of the news. The people on Outset might be gossipers, but Wind also silently thanked them. Outset wasn’t a very large island, and it shouldn’t have taken this long for the group to find him if they were really looking. Someone probably decided to take pity on him and send them in the wrong direction to give him a bit more time to prepare.
Of course, this was all assuming that they truly were his soulmates. There was a possibility that it was a complete coincidence that eight strangers no one on the island had ever seen before were looking for him specifically.
Yeah, even in his head, that sounded unlikely.
Even with helpful neighbors and getting dressed quickly as he could, when he stepped outside, a group of strangers was already coming up the path.
They stopped a good bit away from Granny’s house huddling together. Wind could feel their eyes on him, and his face was betraying his hope and excitement.
Though the group obviously saw him, they clustered a little ways away, talking about something. Wind winced, his expression falling ever so slightly. Did they not want him now that they’d seen him?
Each one of the strangers was obviously older than him- if these were his soulmates, he would be the youngest person in the group. Even the smallest of the group, someone in a colorful tunic who was shorter than Wind, looked to be older than he was. Were they disappointed their last soulmate was young?
On top of that, every member of the group was heavily armed, even if it wasn’t obvious. Most of them had a sword strapped to their back and several other weapons besides that. The magic that Wind could sense from them even at this distance told him they had more than enough hidden defenses as well.
Even the one in a blue tunic- who carried no sword- was armed with a bow and quiver. More excitement filled Wind as he realized that the bowman was heavily scarred. The kind of scars that come from injuries that might kill you. (And then there was guilt that he felt excited that someone had suffered.)
Breath stuttered in Wind’s chest, and he was nearly bouncing on the balls of his feet. Still, he didn't approach. He would let them do that. Because what if Wind was wrong, and these weren’t his soulmates after all? Arryl would never let him live it down if he ran up to a bunch of people just assuming they were his soulmates. That would just be embarrassing.
After a few more moments of Wind barely being able to contain himself, one of the strangers peeled away from the group. The others mingled together, talking but still obviously keeping an eye on Wind.
The man who approached was wearing armor- a pauldron and chainmail. Wind wondered about that for a split second. Even people who were going to be fighting often opted for padded cloth or leather armor, not heavy plate or chain that could cause you to sink like a rock if you were knocked into the water.
The thing that really caught Wind’s attention, though, was the blue scarf that was wrapped around the man’s neck.
A blue scarf, or in other words, a blue scrap of fabric.
Sword.
Wind’s hand drifted up instinctively to rub at his marks, feeling a bright grin break outacross his face. The sleeve of his undertunic was in the way, but that man seemed to catch the motion anyways.
In seconds, the man who was almost certainly one of Wind’s soulmates stood in front of him. His smile was confident as he held out a hand expectantly to Wind. Despite his confidence, Wind could feel his hesitance.
There was an unspoken understanding between them now. They both thought that they were each other's soulmate, and that the rest of the group behind the man was the rest of Wind’s soulgroup. But there was only one way to know, and although there wasn’t anything wrong with not covering your soulmarks, asking flat out to see them if you weren’t someone's soulmate was a very violating question.
Wind hesitantly held out his arm, using his other arm to push up his sleeve.
The man instantly relaxed at the sight, the tenseness in his shoulders melting away. Joy and relief spread across his features as Wind watched the man’s eyes (as Wind watched his soulmate’s eyes!) trail down the line of soulmarks until he reached Sword’s mark.
Until he reached his mark.
Wind watched a shiver go up the man’s spine. Wind had heard countless tales of what it was like to see the soulmark that represented you for the first time, and now he was witnessing it in real life.
The stranger-who-wasn't-a-stranger smiled at him, warm affection filling his eyes. Then he spoke for the first time, the words tender. “There you are, little seagull. We’ve been searching everywhere for you.”
A/N: Enjoy :)
‘To say that the last twenty years had changed the landscape of society would be a vast understatement. Since the United Nations formally recognised and protected soulmates in December of 2000 the world had experienced a social shift. Monogamy was still practiced and certain cultures still heavily encouraged monogamy regardless of soulmate connection, but it had become more common for people to realize that they were in what is known as a ‘soulgroup’. A ‘soulgroup’ is a group of soulmates with three or more links among the soul connections. ‘
At this point Lyra had to stop reading the book in her hand, her job was fantastic most of the time. Except for right now as she struggled through the boring book about soulmates and soulgroups that had been complained about by a patron of the library system. No matter how far they had come in the last twenty years, the bible belt of the south was still the bible belt of the south and the concept of multiple soulmates or soulmates of the same gender were still considered wrong to many people.
This was nothing new to the twenty-one year old, Lyra and her soulmate Arcelia or Lia as she preferred to be called had known they were soulmates since they were in high school. The two of them both being girls was a hot topic for the first few weeks, but it died down relatively fast when people realized that the two were platonic soulmates. They were friends before they both turned sixteen, and after Lia finally turned sixteen everything made sense. They were made for each other, just in another sense.
But that was years ago, now no one cared (for the most part) and the dynamic duo went about life as usual.
Lyra was beyond grateful that she worked the morning shift, getting off from the Library at one. She would be home before twenty after and then on the way to the Ateez concert before two o’clock, that’s the plan at least.
But nothing goes perfectly to plan, like the door Lyra currently was fighting with. The door’s finicky, you have to pull it slightly toward yourself but make sure not to turn the handle at all or it wouldn’t open, Lyra’s trick was to struggle with it until Lia would come and open it. No rescue today however as Lyra walked into their shared apartment she saw that Lia was on stream.
Most days this wouldn’t be a problem, Lia streamed on Twitch for a living and was pretty damn good at it too. Albeit, most people are good at The Sims but her over 9 million followers on the platform put her within the top 15 streamers on the platform. Pretty damn good at it in Lyra’s opinion.
As quietly as she could, Lyra entered the office space her soulmate used to stream in. Putting a quick finger to her mouth she signaled for those watching the stream not to rat her out, it was a running joke that Lyra would attempt to scare Lia during her streams. But just like always, Lia’s fluffle was quick to point out her presence before she fully entered the room.
“Welcome to the stream, Lyra. What’s up?” Lia turned from her screen to face the new comer in the room, shifting her headset to free one ear to fully hear the brunette standing near the office door.
Excitedly bouncing toward the streamer and her set up, Lyra greeted the stream, “Hi bunnies! I’m stealing her early today because it’s ATEEZ DAY!” Turning from the monitors and mic, Lyra looked to Lia, patting the hand she had extended in a greeting with an unusual amount of energy for the bookish girl.
“It’s just about 1:30, we have to be out of here by two to make it to Atlanta in enough time, Lia.” Lyra’s tone was calm despite her obvious excitement about the concert.
“No way, is it already?!,” Lia quickly checked her phone which had been sitting face down on her desk, “crap! It is! I am so sorry guys, but I have to get off and rush, IT”S ATEEZ DAY!” The Lia’s vibe went from calm to chaotic as she turned back to the stream.
Taking this as the que that they were about to rush before heading out, Lyra said a quick goodbye to the stream, “Bye buns! I have to get ready for my passenger princess duties!” Before making a beeline to her room to change from her business casual library clothes to something more age and concert appropriate then quickly adding some eyeline to her work makeup to better “fit the vibe” as Lia would regularly put it.
There are four things Lyra learned at the Ateez concert.
Everyone was happy to trade little nick nacks and the small bunnies they brought were a huge hit
Lia has A LOT of fans who are also ATINY
Apparently people make soulmate compilations of them being quote “cutest lotonic couple on the internet”
Never let Lia chose your concert outfit with blind faith, you will be in heels and a crop top
Librarian core was a vibe in Lyra’s opinion, just not a great one for trying to feel hot in the front row of a concert according to her best friend and soulmate. Lia was the fashion savvy one of the two, and had given Lyra very little room to say no to the outfit she had out together for her.
The two were both decked out head to toe in black, the vibe most fans had gone with for the concert. Lyra had to admit she felt hot, the crop top Lia had put her in crossed over itself a couple times and tied in the back which paired nicely with the black shorts she wore on top of a pair of fishnets. The red accents in her accessories pulled everything together. Lyra couldn’t help but feel a bit exposed, confidence wasn’t her strong suit. Being a curvier girl with her midriff out made her want to hide. The only saving grace was she got to show off her tattoos on her right leg which were normally covered by dress slacks. Lia was in her element, being a bad bitch came naturally to her.
Lia’s confidence in her curves only added to her aura. She knew how to present herself to the world and didn’t care what anyone else had to say about it. Her ‘concert fit’ as she had dubbed it on her instagram story right before they two walked out the door was a bit more on the nose with its Ateez inspiration. A cute shin length black skirt, and black shirt were nondescript on their own, but her choice of a small black hat and the silver jewelry along with the chunky heeled boots that sat in the backseat as she drove screamed HALA HALA.
 The two looked similar enough that they didn’t clash with each other but had a bit of individual flare mixed in. The only thing that the two had that was exactly the same was the lipstick the two had decided to share, a blue-red lipstick that contrasted with their mostly black clothes very well.
In high school, their choir teacher had once told them they blanched each other out. Lia, the outgoing, confident, and loud social butterfly. Lyra, the shy, quiet, and reserved loner. Together, they were able to be more confident if needed in  Lyra’s case or calmer in Lia’s. More than anything, however, together the two could only be accurately described as chaotic.
The front row of the venue was split into three sections, the center, the right of the stage, and the left of the stage.
Lia and Lyra were on the left side of the stage, a strategic move to avoid as many of the strobing lights as possible for Lyra’s sake. She hadn’t had a seizure in years, but they always aired on the side of caution. Being some of the first to their section was a blessing as neither wanted to have to weave in between other concert goers to get to their spots.
“Excuse me?” a small voice called from the right of Lia, “Are you Lia? From liasfarm? On Twitch?”
A girl who couldn’t be older than 14 was seated next to Lia with what seemed to be her mom on the other side of her who had obviously encouraged the young girl to say hi.
“Oh yeah I am, Hi,” Lia answered with a bright smile always excited to meet one of her bunnies in person, and even more delighted to see them in a place like this.
“Wow! I’ve been watching you since you were playing Stardew Valley!..” The shy girl quickly faded into an excited one as she began telling Lia how long she had been watching her streams and how much she looked up to the girl who just so happened to be seated next to her
“You’ve been watching since then? I only played Stardew for like two weeks when i started in 2020 before going to The Sims. What’s your name?” Lia had started streaming right after the pandemic hit to give her something to do in her spare time which quickly turned into a full time job and now two years later it was a career.
“My name is Taylor.” The young fan was suddenly shy again not expecting Lia to keep the conversation going.
“It’s nice to meet you Taylor! Are you excited to see Ateez? We got lucky and were able to change the tickets we got in 2020 a few weeks ago, fate huh?” Lia was as charismatic as always, Lyra thought watching the interaction before realizing the girl had spotted her and sent her a small wave.
“Hi Lyra! Oh my god, mom this is the best night ever,” the girl glanced back at her mom who was watching the interaction closely before continuing, “I love Ateez! You actually introduced me to them when you talked about them during one of your streams, the one where you were making the Slytherin common room…” the two talked nearly non-stop for the half hour they had before the concert officially started.
Lia was touched when Taylor explained that she didn’t really have friends and had decided to go to online schooling just before the pandemic because of bullying. Lia almost cried when Taylor’s mom said her daughter saw her as a friend and comfort person.
“Oh! And I make LiRa edits on Tiktok, you two are literally so good together. I hope that my relationship with my soulmate is just as good as y’alls, platonic or not,” Taylor explained as the lights started to go down causing the two girls on her right to grin. They loved the support they got from Bunnies and the internet general.
Lia laughed before whispering to the now group of four that they would be the loudest fans in the whole place or she would die fighting for the title. One thing that neither Lyra or Lia had noticed during the concert was the little red string that attached them to each other had become visible to them again.
But it not only connected them to each other, there were several threads trailing off. Maybe it was the darkness of the venue or the excitement that kept the two from realizing the change.
And so, they went about their time without concern, acting as a group of four with Taylor and her mother, screaming at the top of their lungs all night. Feral was the only way to describe them when Ateez surprised the crowd with a performance of Pick It Up right before the raffle drawing for the meet and greet after the show. Due to the lessening Covid restrictions and efforts to keep everyone safe, fansign generally was done through a plexiglass barrier for this concert, but they were trying something new to ease back into normal high touch.
One lucky VIP ticket holder and their party would be allowed a backstage meet and greet for a few minutes after the show.
“Okay Atiny!” Hongjoong began from center stage, “I have the winner of the raffle in this card, who will join us backstage after we do our normal high touch!”
The crowd went crazy, screams from all over rang out as everyone was excited to see who won. It was insane that no one seemed really upset that it would only be a small group, sure some people would be jealous if they didn’t get chosen but everyone knew that this was one step closer to getting back to how things were before.
“The winner is…” Hongjoong started while opening the card and the rest of the boy-group gathering around to join him in the announcement, “Seat F 73!” The whole group yelled in somewhat unison with Mingi being just a second or to behind the rest, but just as enthusiastic.
The realization dawned on Lyra first, she was the very end of the front row at F75, so that means two seats over won.
“Taylor, Oh My God! You WON!” Lyra yelled over the screams of the other Atiny in the venue as the group searched around for their new winner
“Taylor, Yay! I’m so happy for you,” Lia screamed just as Lyra had while excitedly giving the young girl a side hug and a huge smile. She felt like a proud older sister seeing something amazing happening to such a deserving fan.
Taylor seemed to be in a bit of shock even after Lia let her out of the huge, turning her head to her mom as if to check and see if this was real life.
“This is so cool, i’m so happy for her!” Lyra said as she turned to Lia as Taylor began talking to her mom, probably working out the details for after the show.
“I know! She is so sweet, they couldn’t have drawn a better seat. She really deserves this” Lia said, half watching the encore, half answering Lyra.
Before they knew it, the concert was over and the lights were coming up in the venue. The only downside to being in the front row was having to wait for others to file out first, or at least Lyra and Lia were because crowds were not their ideal situation.
Before going, Lia wanted to bid Taylor a quick goodbye and thank her for being such a good concert friend. She was surprised to see Taylor and her mom still beside them, looking as they were about to try and get the duo’s attention as well.
“Lia! Lyra! I have a question before you leave!” Taylor seemed more confident and comfortable now than she had during the whole concert.
“What’s up friend?” Lia answered her attention fully on the young girl now, Lyra coming to stand on Lia’s left also intently listening to the question at hand
“Would you two like to be part of my party and come backstage with us?”
The question and offer of sorts through both girls for a loop, the two shared quick look both feeling awkward. They didn’t want to take advantage of the girl and her mother’s generosity nor did they want her to feel like she needed to invite them to go with her just because she was a fan.
As Lyra readied herself to decline on behalf of the both of them, Taylor’s mother interrupted
“I know it might seem a little awkward, but please don’t feel obligated or like we're only offering because Taylor is a fan. I actually suggested it. You two have been great to share this concert experience with, which is why we are asking. It’s just us and the party limit is six. We don’t want this opportunity to go to waste, please?”
Lyra and Lia were still a bit apprehensive to accept, but it seemed like fate had already decided that they would be joining the mother and daughter, when a security guard walked up asking if they were the winning party.
The group hadn’t realized the main part of the venue had emptied out, before Lia or Lyra could decline Taylor answered
“Yep! The four of us are the winning party, my mom can show you our ticket information for confirmation.”
And just like that they were being escorted to a private green room to wait while Ateez did the normal high touch before coming to visit with them.
The room was nice, large enough to accommodate what would become 12 whole people in a matter of minutes. Some snacks and other refreshments had been spread out across the room adjacent to the several chair and two couches taking up most of the space.
Lia looked calm on the outside, if anything a little quiet, but her anxiety was through the roof with the whole situation. She was scared that she was taking advantage of a fan by getting swept up in this offer but also felt that it would be extremely rude to try and leave at this point.
Lyra was anxious as well, not only did the situation put her in an extremely social situation when her people battery was already low from the night, but she had just noticed the string of fate.
There it was in all its bright red glory, connecting her to Lia as always but eight new strings had appeared leading off behind the door on the other side of the green room. Lyra turned to point out the change in their string to Lia, only to see the subtle look of panic across her soulmates face which was quickly masked with a bright smile as Taylor came to sit in a chair near them.
“Is this your first time doing something like this? You two look a little nervous.” Taylor's Mom, Vivian, asked. Her voice washed over the two anxious soulmates like a calming blanket. She seemed so comfortable in this setting and it helped bring the stress down,
“Yeah, we’ve never even done normal high touch before and were nervous for that,” Lyra laughed out trying to take some of the pressure off of Lia, who despite the break in the tension with the new conversation was still very anxious.
“It’ll be just fine, I work in the music industry in Atlanta. Taylor and I have been around the block before. Taylor’s Dad plays for the Atlanta Falcons also, so we’ve been exposed to this type of stuff for a loooong time.” Vivian’s words were somewhat calming, but also made a lot of sense. It also raised an entirely new set of questions, for both Lyra and Lia respectively.
Before they could fire off with any of their questions, the door opened.
In walked the stars of the night, all eight members of Ateez, in all their sweaty, tired glory. What was most alarming about their entrance was the red string leading between all of them and coming back to attach to the threads connected to Lyra and Lia.
Both of whom are now painfully aware of the changes in their thread and exactly who it connected to. And it seemed that all eight members were just as aware that they were staring at two girls who completed their soulgroup.
A/n: Again not edited, i know its a bit of a mess but tis something from me so the expectations were low
Anything else would be silly. Our souls are infinite and all that we truly are. The souls you're deeply connected to in this life will always be connected to you beyond this lifetime and some have already been with you for a very long time. Some call it our #soulfamily or #soulgroup and a lot of people get the #soulmate thing wrong, we don't have 1 soulmate, we have several in each life, they can be friends, family or lovers. Some souls that we've known for thousands of years will cross our paths in this life and not even remember us, that is because they are on a different journey than we we are and they may not be as deeply connected to their own soul or pay enough attention to their own instincts or intuition. We will all see each other again when we shed these human bodies and transcend back to love and light, the infinite energy that we actually are. If this doesn't sound familiar to you its ok, we are all at different levels of consciousness. If you want to understand all that you are and are not, give yourself time and keep seeking knowledge from within, all the answers are already within yourself- Engrained into your DNA and into your soul. We are so much more than most realize, we are powerful, we are infinite beings of light n love, these physical bodies are just one chapter, we are fortunate to be given the humbling human experience. ✨💛💫#namaste
SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS 🔎🧭👓💻 When we look up, it is because we’re searching for answers. Literally and figuratively. Collective energies today may be experiencing Questioning our power: When it comes to these new spaces we placed ourselves in. Yes, we’re doing the work but we can potentially get too lost in how these situations can create stability for us. Thin ice between what we’ve left behind & what we’ve gained: There’s a need for control because of doubt and fear of whether or not we actually moved on from our past issues and circumstances. Continue to surrender to the experience! The question is not really about if you can maintain your truth: Are you willing to remain outside of your comfort zone? You have to let the universe push you forward beyond the things you’ve once identified with. May be confusion within a partnership of business venture: Don’t throw yourself in situations you cannot commit to. You’ll end up paying for it in the end. The lesson is letting some things go. You can’t fix everything. Some issues are meant to deal with themselves. Hello soul group! Lately, I’ve been feeling a urge to prepare, but I realized that I was preparing out of fear I wasn’t ready for this change I’m experiencing. It’s so new and unrecognizable right now so it makes me feel like I’m not ready, but this is the part where we tune in and listen rather than trying to grab so much unnecessary information. Spirit is calling us to trust that what we know in this moment is everything we need to know. Practicing abundance is trusting that we have everything we need right now 🙏🏾
A short story
To love a broken soul
It was never about what he said to her although he always seemed to say the right things. Like the language he spoke was the same language she understood. It was the way he’d look at her as if he was looking right into her soul. Like he knew exactly who she was and loved her that way. Maybe that was also the way she looked at him. Their eyes meeting on the same plane but at a different time and in a different space.
What’s it like to recognize a soul? Or be the soul that’s recognized? To be overwhelmed by their presence no matter how fake their betrayal, to know still how they feel?
After all he wouldn’t dare to say and she wouldn’t dare to feel. He’s told himself a hundred times and she’s felt this way a thousand. She wants him to be happy and he wants her to be sad. He’s the one that’s sad though, she feels his sadness. Scooping it up like freshly fallen snow on a sidewalk she watches as it piles up. Slowly melting away as the frigid days pass by.
She thinks of him often. He thinks about her too. They’ll never stop thinking about each other although it may seem rude to love another person after you’ve already had a few. To love them is to let them go. To love them so freely that they wouldn’t even know. If it wasn’t for the eyes the heart may never know. If it wasn’t for the energies that penetrate the soul.
“You know, you should get out more, like take up a yoga or painting class or something.” Sana was nonchalant as she suggested. The soulgroup had been trying to get you out of your hole for years. They thought you spent too much time in the shop or at home.
“You don’t need to worry about me. Getting out isn’t really my…thing.” You shrugged in response. It was true, you were completely content with just relaxing at home or being at the café. You weren’t the person to party or drink. It just wasn’t something you enjoyed.
“It’s just, the more places you go to, or things you do, the more likely it is you’ll meet your soulmates.” She explains with a saddened tone. They all hated watching you retreat into your shell. They knew that you thought it was too late for you to meet your soulmates and noticed how you stared at your soulmark when you thought no one was looking.
They just wanted you to be happy.
“That’s why I’m doing what I’m comfortable with. I’m going with you and Chaeyoungie to lunch and we’ll be there to hang out.” You appreciate their love and friendship, but you aren’t comfortable with putting yourself out there, even if it is to find your soulmates.
“And I’m happy you are going!” Sana squeals as she wraps her arms around your shoulders. “You never go to lunch with us!” She wasn’t wrong. It had been a long time since you had gone to lunch with one of your friends.
Within another five minutes you had made it to the restaurant, seeing Chaeyoung wave at you from her window seat. It seemed she made it early to grab you guys a table.
