In news of "Title is not the smartest at deciding how to spend their time," I made a collection of mood music for @bogleech's Mortasheen setting on Open Game Art!
It's perfect background for any tabletop session, and since it's all under CC0 or CC-BY, you're free to use it if you're doing; say; a TTRPG podcast...

Blorbo Showdown: Round 1, Match 14
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@bogleech made these! go look at bogleech.com it's the best website
On the left: Sneezola from Mortasheen. My favorite Mortasheen monster, who started as a fakemon but got Upgraded after enough people loved it real hard. (Including me, I did fanart!) the funny virus jellyfish… no matter how bogleechy the style ill always find this one huggable. at my own peril. that's fine i'm ok with that
On the right: Doctor H.M. Phage from Awful Hospital: Seriously The Worst Ever. In my top ten 'deserves a plushie' characters. Probably could end the world if he tried. I've been reading this comic for a while and it's SO good, amazing way to spend an afternoon. (probably more like a whole day, actually. or two? depends on how fast you read ig)

Does your post about wasps and beetles and moths also include guinea worms? Or are we still ok to eradicate those? They evolved specifically to only reproduce by causing painful lesions on human feet, though we've put enough selection pressure on them that they now infect dogs and cats as well.
They are not a major food source for any organism that we know of. They are not a keystone species of any ecosystem. Do they have intrinsic value, so that we should let them live to keep infecting people without access to clean water? They aren't doing anything for the ecosystem.
This is the kind of topic biologists with PhDs spend years writing research papers about, and I don't see you offering any grant money.
Also, I'm not sure if the blog was enough of a clue, but I specialize in Accipitriformes. I'm a really weird person to ask this to. You'd probably be better served asking @bogleech or someone similar.
Final aside... the original post specified pollinators so uh. No? I guess? It would not include this apparently non-pollinator species. No comment on whether I would personally choose to wipe it out because I don't have a god complex, but the post was about an entirely different taxonomic field.

Saw you reblogged a post from bogleech and just wanted to inform you (if it matters to you, feel free to ignore this lol) that they're an eugenics advocate and has advertised their desire to put people with certain mental illnesses to death. They're also pro-censorship.
Look, I'll be frank, I don't know why people think that this is an appropriate type of ask to send me, or honestly, anyone.
I have no idea who bogleech is. I don't follow them, and I never have. I searched to find what post of theirs I even apparently reblogged, and the only thing I could find was a post which simply stated an unambiguously true fact about what many evangelical churches believe and preach – and which was a jumping off point for multiple reblogs that agreed and expanded on the subject.
Are they, in fact, a pro-censorship eugenics advocate who wants to put people with certain mental illnesses to death? I have no idea! If they are, there was zero evidence of that in the single post which I reblogged at several-reblog-additions-remove – and since I don't follow them, and have no desire to follow them, and have no desire to go obsessively digging around in the archives of blogs I have no desire to follow, I have zero evidence of literally anything else about them.
If you're going to make serious accusations about someone, the bare fucking minimum you should do is bring receipts. If this person really is all that you say, and if you actually cared about spreading useful information so that people can more effectively block folks and curate their online interactions, you'd think you'd come forward with even a single concrete example of bad behavior. And of course, the fact that you sent me this sort of thing on anon is a tad suspicious as well. I have no idea if this ask is part of some slanderous campaign against an innocent target, or if it's a simply a misguided and vaguely performative attempt to warn people about a genuinely awful person without understanding the difference between information sharing and rumor mongering – and to be honest, I really do not care which it is. Both are gross, and neither are the sort of thing that I would simply take on faith from an anonymous source.
Anon, grow up, and do better – if you're spreading falsehoods about another user, stop; and if, on the other hand, you're telling the truth, then grow a spine, and come forwards with the actual evidence that you think that people need to know about.

Went to the river to swim today, and after years of being unable to find any, on a sand bar @bogleech and I found all these tiger beetles running around everywhere! Bronzed tiger beetles, specifically. Sadly didn't have our phones with us, but they looked like this:
Tumblr media
(Source: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cicindela-repanda-002.jpg#mw-jump-to-license )
I knew that tiger beetles were the fastest invertebrate (they run so quickly they're unable to see while running!), but I hadn't anticipated they were also such agile fliers. Most beetles are extremely awkward in flight, but they zipped around as nimbly as the shore flies.
We also found what looked like an ant at first, but the flexible abdomen gave it away. Surprise!
Tumblr media
( Source: https://bugguide.net/node/view/637865 )
This is not an ant at all, but a wingless red wasp! (Well, a different wingless red wasp--ants are technically also wasps.) I made the guess that it was the right size to be a parasitoid of the tiger beetles, and it turns out I was right on the money!
(Also pretty pleased with myself that I was the one to spot both first, and I wasn't even wearing my glasses 😎 )

Hey Bogleech! I have a ten-ish gallon fishtank that I want to convert into a terrarium, ideally with this sundew I've had for a while. Do you have any good sources or recommendations for setting something like this up?
Tumblr media
In a big aquarium or a tiny little jar, they just like having pure distilled water and either pure sphagnum moss or sphagnum peat soil to grow in! As long as they stay wet and get lots of light they should be happy :)

no shade at @bogleech but i just found out! and wanted to share! bc i think its cool! that the medieval mace-shaped fella vvv
Tumblr media
is actually just a wee baby grabbed from this original image,
Tumblr media
which reveals that they are a juvenile Gargariscus prionocephalus, aka jaggedhead gurnard, aka the same species as in the original post. those little spikes will form into the... handsome face lobes... ? with time!
also since the original picture showed a dead & pressure damaged specimen, lets appreciate one that is alive and well:

*I spoke to AWKA on Discord about publishign this ask; got permission.
So yeah that's true.
https://web.archive.org/web/20220823023943/https://bogleech.tumblr.com/post/656561257451765760/bogleech-there-is-a-serious-problem-with-people
Basically there's this overwhelming problem where people who get really popular on tumblr for their shitposting prowess have completely swallowed queerphobic propaganda about queerness leading to child rape.
Only because most of them are queer themselves, they have to pick a specific type of queer person to accuse of being a child rapist, and they choose people who write "obscene" fiction.
Because, in their minds, obscenity is indefensible.
And so, to them, it is reasonable and appropriate to suggest that writing a novel makes you guilty of raping a child.
This is the underlying belief set that antishippers have, but recognizing the severity of their hatred for "nasty" queers would cause them a lot of pain and guilt, so as a self defense mechanism they convince themselves that it's all okay. Their hatred of queer people is okay, because they don't hate the queerness. They just hate the specific type of fiction those nasty queers are writing.
Which is why saying those queer authors are child rapists is totally appropriate and proportionate.
God it always sounds so absurd when I write it out, but that's the problem. It IS absurd. It's almost incomprehensibly stupid, because that's what cults do to you, that's how they make you obey.
They convince you to behave in a way that is so ridiculous that it alienates you from your friends, family, and peers until the only way you know how to seek guidance, or help, or affection, or any human compulsions whatsoever, is to exagerratedly repeat cult behaviours and seek cult rewards.
And then you get to this point where people who are saying, "sex scenes in fiction are not the same as raping a child in real life," are being harassed and attacked and driven to suicide or assaulted until they are hospitalized...
And it all just sounds so fucking insanely stupid and petty and over reactive that you can't get help and you can't get out.
So yeah, anyway, Bogleech is a member of the cult that encourages assault, murder, and retributive rape against queer authors, who call themselves "antishippers."

So I've been thinking about Pokémon. I do that a lot. My inner Zoobooks kid demands it. But recently I was rewatching some of the old anime for Reasons and realized the games exist in universe as some sorta goofy edutainment simulator. Made me start thinking about 'what if the games oversimplify pokémon biology like Odell's Lake and the like oversimplify real world biology' and uh. With all due gratitude to @bogleech (who does reviews for pokemon designs that I adore) and the nature YouTubers I consume daily.
I would like to yell at you about Bulbasaur a little, Tumblr.
Tumblr media
So imma get real nerdy real fast here. I love me some speculative extrapolation.
First off let's look at one of the official game designs real quick.
Tumblr media
Okay, so, a sauroid design--I know that seems obvious from the name but hold on here, I have a point.
So here we have a large quadrapedal exotherm with obvious green coloration. Not just dull green, bright green. Given the species line is famous for learning Solar Beam, an attack that necessitates gathering sunlight and transforming it into an attack, we can probably be safe in assuming a lot of that green is chlorophyll, making this a rare non-marine vertebrate capable of using chlorophyll to produce energy for itself. And, occasionally, to gather enough energy to tell predators to step off.
The bulb and the... well, the 'saur, appear to be a package deal, but the bulb is not only distinct from the main body, it may be the primary source of its Grass typing, with the Poison typing belonging to the sauroid hefting that bulb around. That kinda distinction leads me to believe the bulb doesn't naturally grow on the Bulbasaur, and may be the result of a parent or sufficiently trained human implanting the seed for the bulb in its back. Meaning the body can have a set of two genetic parents while the bulb can have genetics coming from any flowering plants of that species in whatever area they're born to.
I wonder if the sauroids without bulbs are capable of surviving on their own or if this was an adaptation out of necessity. Like how megafauna in our actual world died off when the ecosystem could no longer support their energy needs. Are the bulbs needed to get to their size, leaving unaided young smaller to survive without the energy boost? If they were smaller and had weaker skin without the Grass-type boosting, I can see them being analogous to venomous toads. If they're needed for survival, it implies strong social ties, possibly entire colonies or troops of their evolutionary line, in order to provide new 'Saurs with their bulb seeds.
Also, if the two parts of the Bulbasaur are distinct, that implies the bulb is supplementing a diet that was already supporting the animal body. Given the name of the final evolution is Venusaur, I'm going to assume insects, probably birds and rodents once it grows larger and slower.
I'm almost entirely sure this thing lives in and around rainforests and jungles. Lots of moisture and sunlight for the chlorophyll and lots of biodiversity (to feast upon). It also fits with the assumed venomous amphibian origin.
I'm going to assume one of the oversimplifications is the evolution system, and that means the Bulbasaur, as pictured above, is a recognized and therefore official species for use in pokémon sport. There's probably all manner of variants not officially recognized, like ones that don't have their bulb, or who had their bulb seed malform somewhere along the line, or shift position in a way that hinders mobility. It also indicates a Bulbasaur that's battle ready can also lay or sire eggs, though without a ready support system, they're reliant on human aid to properly raise their young with bulbs. Based on body plan and energy requirements, I'm guessing covered nest with between one and three eggs, warm, kept damp, so the heat equally incubated the eggs. When they hatch, the young are kept hydrated and tucked away while a seed is implanted in their soft backs. Eventually, they are exposed more and more to the sunlight and the energy from that and catches brought to the nest helps them grow quickly until the adorable little starter beasts we so love.
There's more. There so much more. But I'll cover that next post or I'll ramble over the word limit.

I’ve been lurking this situation with bogleech and it’s just the same “argument” as it is every time
Proshipper: *provides articles, essays, and studies from reputable sources from which we base our stances on, while asking antis to provide their own sources to try to have an intellectual conversation*
Antis: lol I’m not reading any of that because I already know (aka believe) you’re a pedo and you can’t change my mind, here is loads of harassment depicting horrible ways to die
I’m so tired
And it is not lost on me that if you replace proshipper with queer people and antis with bigots, it’s verbatim the same “argument”
lmao it was never in good faith with this guy.
probably was always doomed to fail, but hey, at least I got the push that grooming red flags post! I always hope that gets more traction. It's one of those things that SHOULD be taught in schools, but isn't, so all one can do is spread that information themself.
Apparently he has this bad habit of getting self righteous about stuff, which I learned from a friend last night:
looks like bogleech is on another of his feeling self righteous rants I've seen him get like this about people who like the british royal family, frozen, and the last two generations of pokemon even when I agree with him, and he does have his good points, god is he a thin skinned absolutist
So it's not surprising that kind of guy would latch onto the arguments and group that he is.
