"The Mother Goddess and The She-Bear" (#1 in my Atalanta series) Illustration be me.
In the kingdom of Arkadia, the King Lasion, preferring a boy, orders his newborn daughter to be taken into the forest and left to die from exposure. The attendant takes the baby into the hills of Mount Parthenium, leaving the child near a cave spring, sending up a prayer for the child. The wild hunter goddess, Artemis, ever the protector of children, sends her sacred she-bear, who, having recently lost her own cub, comes upon the child, offering the nourishment of her milk.
Although the Atalanta myth has its roots in Arkadia (south west Greece) and Boetia, with the themes of motherhood and protection, I have also included the more exotic statue of the Mother goddess of the “Artemis of Ephesus” (west coast of Turkey.) I have had the pleasure to see this statue in person, and it is truly breathtaking. The statue, representing a goddess who protects fertility, has spherical objects placed around her lower torso, once thought to be breasts, but now believed to be bull’s testicles or gourds, which were symbolic for fertility in ancient times in Asia.
Unwanted children being taken into nature to die from exposure is a reoccurring theme in Greek myths. The Trojan Prince Paris was abandoned to die in the wilderness, and was also suckled by a she-bear. Oedipus mother Jocasta, agreed to have the child pinned down with a stake through the ankles, and left to die upon the mountainside, but the attendant couldn’t go through with it, giving the child to a poor shepherd. Even Heracles mother, Alcmene left the child in a field, fearing Hera’s wrath.
Another theme worth noting is the “feral child” theme, where a helpless child is raised by protective animals. In the ancient Babylonian epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu is said to have been raised by beasts. And in more modern tales like Kipling’s “the Jungle book” with Mowgli being raised by wolves. Even in American folk tales; Pecos Bill was said to have been fostered by coyotes.
As always, thanks for looking and reading! If you want to see more of my artwork: https://linktr.ee/tylermileslockett

São Paulo exhibitions offer a window on to a Brazil seldom seen
Tumblr media
Otherworldly neon faces float among a profusion of shapes and curving lines on the vibrant canvas “Sky Bird Boa Constrictor” by Acelino Huni Kuin. The painting is a commotion of fish, multicoloured birds, leaves and scales, bordered by black-and-white zigzags. Relax your focus and the patterned body of the snake appears, winding itself through the work. The effect is both dreamlike and riotous.
Psychedelic depictions of animals, plants and people are a frequent feature in Mirações (Visions), an exhibition of artists from the Huni Kuin indigenous peoples at the São Paulo Museum of Art. Exploring the mythologies and ancestral tales of the Amazonian tribe, many of the works are inspired by the consumption of ayahuasca, a hallucinogenic drink prepared from jungle plants and used in shamanic rituals for centuries by native South Americans. In a curator’s essay, one of the artists, Ibã Huni Kuin, describes the process of putting the exhibition together as “working in the gallery with music and myth”.
The show is one of a pair that has inaugurated a year of programming dedicated to indigenous histories (or stories, depending on translation) at the cultural institute. This underscores a growing recognition of artists from Brazil’s indigenous populations, who were portrayed in idealised terms by the newly independent nation’s Romanticism movement in the 19th century and then studied as anthropological subjects. Their own cultural output was often not afforded the status of art, instead considered craftsmanship. Now, though, work by Brazil’s original peoples is gaining space in the country’s most prestigious galleries.

It's Crustacean Week at the BPCL, and we have another Crab Monster for you!
Roger Corman is a prolific director and producer known for his independent science fiction and horror films, among others. One of his earliest films was Attack of the Crab Monsters in 1957, which features a group of scientists who travel to an island in the Pacific to investigate why the previous scientists went missing. Turns out, they were killed by giant, telepathic crab monsters mutated by nuclear radiation. This two-page spread is from Roger Corman: King of the B Movie : Crab Monsters, Teenage Cavemen, and Candy Stripe Nurses (2013) by Chris Nashawaty and features a behind-the-scenes look at the film's production.
The Browne Popular Culture Library, founded in 1969, is the most comprehensive archive of its kind in the United States.  Our focus and mission is to acquire and preserve research materials on American Popular Culture (post 1876) for curricular and research use. Visit our website at https://www.bgsu.edu/library/pcl.html.
Transcription below the cut
Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957)
In 1957, Roger Corman directed nine movies. Shot on the cheap and usually cranked out in ten caffeinated days, Corman's output during that Eisenhower-era annus mirabilis included such drive-in diversions as Rock All Night, The Undead, and The Saga of the Viking Woman and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent. All of these films (well, most of them at least) have their merits. But there's one that stands out for its willingness to grapple with weightier questions than the fates of bobbysoxers and bargain-basement bogeymen -- the luridly titled Attack of the Crab Monsters. Distributed by Poverty Row studio Allied Artists, Crab Monsters was released on February 10, 1957, as part of a Corman sci-fi double bill alongside Not of This Earth. Taken together, these two cautionary tales form the backbone of Corman's early obsession with the apocalyptic power of the A-bomb and the hubris of well-meaning scientists who, a short decade earlier, had unleashed a new form of wrath on the world in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Written by Charles B. Griffith, who would go on to pen several other Corman classics line 1960's The Little Shop of Horrors and 1975's Death Race 2000, the $70,000 Crab Monsters kicks off with a crew of scientists arriving by seaplane on an unnamed deserted island in the South Pacific. They're there to find out what happened to a previous research team that went missing. Could it have something to do with the fact that the island is smack sab in the middle of a nuclear testing zone? Before they have a chance to find out, things go disastrously wrong: One of the seamen bringing them ashore by raft falls overboard, only to resurface missing his head. Then, as the seaplane lifts off to return to the mainland, it explodes in midair. The table is set.
The team of stranded brainiacs include Dale Drewer (Richard Garland in an ascot), Martha Hunter (Pamela Duncan wearing more makeup and tighter sweaters than one might expect in the jungle), and Hank Chapman (a pre-Gilligan's Island Russell Johnson). Soon, they discover a journal filled with ominous entries of distress and hear the mysterious disembodied voices of the dead summoning them to the island's caves, where they finally come face-to-face with...huge, radioactive, papier-mache crustaceans with claws operated by piano wire able to absorb the thoughts of any human brain they nosh on! At one point, a crab monster telepathically warns: "So, you have wounded me! I must grow a new claw, well and good! For I can do it in a day! But will you grow new legs when I have taken yours from you?"
As the victims of this atomic retribution start to pile up, Corman's chilling allegory of nuclear folly becomes a briskly paced meditation on our most destructive impulses. We've played God and now must pay for our sins. In more ways than one, Attack of the Crab Monsters is a B movie with a bite.

9. A book that has been translated from another language.
Jungle Tales by Uruguayan author Horacio Quiroga is a collection of children's stories set in the South American jungle. They tend to be fable-like stories about animals that struggle with humans or learn lessons, but there's a mix between the classic style and modern (for the time) technology that can make for some funny, bizarre, or violent juxtapositions. They're very quick, fun reads, and if you like, you can access the collection here.

I just picked up an old paperback copy of a Vietnam War book called SEALs: UDT/SEAL Operations in Vietnam by Tim Bosiljevac. The book chronicles the early history of the Sea, Air and Land Teams, from their founding under President Kennedy through the end of the Vietnam War. The SEALs were created to be the Navy’s superhuman version of the Green Berets: “a naval guerrilla/counterguerrilla [force] with an emphasis on direct action raids and missions on targets in close proximity to bodies of water.” I love that line, “in close proximity to bodies of water.” That could mean a puddle…or hell, when you consider that human beings are about 70% water–“bodies of water” could mean just about anything.
There are a lot of great Vietnam War books out there, mostly memoirs, as Dr. Dolan explained:
Virtually anyone who saw combat and has a decent memory can write a decent book about it — and Vietnam, a war characterized by thousands of small skirmishes, was richer in incident and gore than an inner-city basketball tournament. When next you hear that rough voice asking, “War — what is it good for?”, you tell it: “First-person memoirs, that’s what!”
…This high literary output was a delayed gift of the utter lack of strategy which doomed the American enterprise in Vietnam: a war which consisted largely of sending small contingents of infantry out into the jungle to find the enemy, usually by getting ambushed, is bound to be a military disaster — but equally bound to produce an extraordinary number of fantastic combat tales.
Unfortunately SEALs lacks this first-person immediacy–it’s a third-person history, Bosiljevic’s Navy College master’s thesis turned into a book, and unfortunately it sometimes reads like a thesis.
Still, this is Nam, Dude–and we’re talking about the SEALs here. That means page after page of ambushes and skirmishes, some of which make for some pretty amazing reading, even in the third dry person.
One such ambush stuck out–one of those rarely reported, long-rumored showdowns between our guys and the hated, invisible “Russian advisors” who were never officially supposed to be there in South Vietnam.
ou kids out there who were born too late to remember the Cold War grudges probably won’t grasp the profound satisfaction that a scene like this offers your average armchair Cold Warrior. See, one thing our side could never get over was griping about how the Soviets were somehow cheating. This scene is the sort of “This is what happens when the SEALs catch you cheating” fantasy that all the armchair Cold Warriors dreamed about. It takes place in 1967–a big year for the SEALs in ‘Nam–in a province in the southwest corner of South Vietnam. Meaning, Russian advisors were operating in our own backyard, the bastuds!:
One particular SEAL ambush in 1967 in Kien Giang Province provided a surprise to a frogman force. The SEALs had been watching a reported supply route used by enemy forces on a remote canal. Late in the afternoon of the second day of their surveillance, a VC sampan floated into the kill zone. Besides the two indigenous guerrillas onboard, a tall, heavy Caucasian with a beard rode in the bow. He was dressed in what looked like a khaki uniform and was holding a communist assault rifle. Just as the craft pulled into the area, the communists became leery, as if sensing the danger nearby. Although initially startled at seeing the white man, the SEALs immediately let the law of the barroom prevail–when a fight is unavoidable, strike first, and strike hard. The frogmen unleashed a hail of fire into the enemy force. The Caucasian was hit in the chest in the initial burst of fire and went overboard. The VC attempted to jump in and assist him. Just then, a superior Vietcong force appeared and counterattacked. Outnumbered and outgunned, the SEALs fought a running gun battle to an area where they could extract. Later, they were debriefed about the incident by an intelligence officer. They were told to remain silent about the action. South Vietnamese intelligence had reported that the white man had been a Russian. It would remain a little-known fact that the guerrillas and North Vietnamese were assisted in their Third World brushfire war by a host of foreign advisers and technicians, including Soviets, Chinese, Eastern Bloc, Cuban, Korean, and other communist nationals.
There’s a serious ethical contradiction that seems lost on the author here, a contradiction that’s built into our DNA: On the one hand, the SEALs (very wisely) attack and kill without warning on the barroom theory about striking first and striking hard. Which makes sense, but goes against the suburban middle-class rules of fighting. Real middle-class American bar fights go something like this: a lot of shouting, a lot of loud long well-telegraphed empty threats, even formal declarations marking the combatant’s geographical location (“I’m here! I’m here, mutherfucker!”), dramatic tearing off of one’s shirt, verbal commands expressed in the Imperative Mood (“Come on! Come on, mutherfucker!”)… All that pre-game shouting in American bar-fights establishes the combatant’s sense of “fair play” that suburbanites tend to vastly overrate. It’s as though everyone’s worrying about what the post-game highlights will look like, what they’ll say after  the fight–about securing your place in history, or in the homecoming king vote. I dunno. I remember in Moscow in the mid-90s watching a Russian and an American go at it, and there couldn’t have been a bigger fight-culture clash: The American, some ripped red-head, went through the whole tearing his shirt off schtick, screaming and yelling about his geographical location, calling his Russian opponent all sorts of names implying that the Russian was a cheater whereas he wasn’t…It seemed ridiculous to everyone watching, especially the Russian guy, who tagged the redhead a few more times, messing up his Tony Award-winning act.
American Cold Warriors, armchair and otherwise, always carried around this grudge about the “rules” and about how Americans are just too damn decent for this corrupt awful world. And at the top of the grievance list was the fact that Russian advisors operated with the Vietnamese. Somehow, that just…wasn’t fair. Those damn Russkies–always cheating!
For anyone interested, I found a Russian site set up by Russian veterans of the Vietnam War, which features plenty of old war photos, as well as articles and short memoirs from the Russians who served. (Click here.)
About a decade ago, I was in Vietnam with a bunch of Russian friends from my old Moscow newspaper The eXile. One day, I peeled off from the group and took a tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels, the setting for one of the best of all the Vietnam War books. None of the Russians gave a shit about Cu Chi and all the stories I forced them to listen to out on the beaches–they found anything military boring, they’d heard too many war stories already from the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, stories that were hard to top.
So off I went on an official Cu Chi Tunnels tour. There were 10 of us in my group, all but two Americans, including a retired couple from Texas: the wife was nervous, thin, harried; the husband one of those squat military retirees who infest the American southwest, tight shirt, large gut hanging over his belt, big fat forearms and fingers. Almost as soon as our tour started, the husband let us know that he was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a real loud-mouthed asshole–it was as though he’d practiced for this moment ever since Saigon fell. He did everything imaginable that day to reignite the Vietnam War. But our guide, a respectful young Vietnamese man, kept calm, letting the sore old loser blow off his steam. It added another layer of tension and entertainment to the whole Cu Chi Tunnels tour. Actually, just  walking around the cheap victory museum dedicated to my own country’s defeat made me feel like some neutered German tourist–isn’t that what post-war German tourists do, respectfully visit monuments to their defeat?
But the real action was the toothless rematch going on right here in Cu Chi: Old Veteran Guy  versus Young Wiry Vietnamese Guide. It went something like this: Our guide would show us some half-cheesy, half-horrifying commie exhibit on, say, Agent Orange, and our guide would say something like, “Agent Orange cause many death, many deformity for Vietnamese children, American government not recognize effects of illegal chemical war, refuse to pay reparations”…and the Texan would snarl, “Nope! Nope, nope, nope! Not true! No evidence! It’s all a crock, people, I know all about this, I was there. Agent Orange never hurt anyone–they’re just trying to get money from our government, that’s all.”
Or our guide would proudly relate how underdog Vietnamese, wearing shoes made out of torn tire treads, managed to defeat and outlast the mighty American imperial army. To which the veteran would bark, “Not true! You had the Russians backing you the whole time. You had an endless supply line of Russian weapons, Russian advisors, Russian and Chinese material. Don’t whitewash this little propaganda tour of yours, I know what happened! You cheated–you had all the help in the world!”
Or our guide would show us some of the clever ways that the Viet Cong concealed the entrances to their tunnels, and how they fooled the Americans with their earthy ingenuity; our veteran from Texas would literally walk over and stand between us and our skinny Vietnamese guide, and shout, “We could have pumped in poison gas into the tunnels, and it’d’ve all been over. I asked for poison gas, other commanders asked for poison gas too, believe me. The problem was that our side played fair–we were signatories to the Geneva Conventions. The jerks in Washington cared more about the Geneva Conventions than they cared about winning this war.”
The Americans winced and cowered. But our guide didn’t seem bothered–he seemed more worried that we would be dissatisfied tour customers. I realize now, his main goal was to make sure that the old veteran didn’t lodge a complaint.
“Our hands were tied because we couldn’t use poison gas–and let me tell you, if we were allowed to use chemical weapons or poison gas on those tunnels, we’d’ve saved a lot of lives, something the do-gooders in Washington couldn’t understand. So what could we do? We used fire hoses to pump in river water into the tunnel entrances that we found. That, or tear gas. But that was a waste of time. If we could have used poison gas on the communists in these tunnels here, it would have saved a lot of lives. A lot of lives.”
That was stunning–even this jerk had to couch his little fascist plans under the guise of “saving lives.” It crossed the line from asshole Ugly American to something almost downright impressive.
I kept waiting for our Vietnamese guide to blow a fuse or shout the old Texan down, or rip the vet’s cholesterol-hardened heart out with some Bruce Lee move and chomp it down while it was still beating, Jim Carrey-style. But our guide seemed genuinely empathetic, and genuinely worried that the tour would end badly. Maybe the guide had seen a lot of these types on his tour. Whatever the case, comparing the old loud-mouthed vet with this zen Vietnamese guide, you could see, in some small way, why and how we lost that war.
At the end of the tour, ol’ Texas veteran softened up, shook our guide’s hand, and congratulated him and the Vietnamese on their victory–a victory which, he now magnanimously conceded, they’d earned.
It was like witnessing the “25-years-later” scene of what happened to the Robert Duvall character decades after he wistfully declared, “Some day, this war’s gonna end…” Which is to say, there’s a reason why Coppola never filmed the 25-years-later scene.

Yellowstone National Park, the world's first national park, welcomes exploration into its geothermal wonders and animal habitats, providing a voyage into America's untamed splendour. Finally, New Orleans is a cultural treasure because of the deep notes of jazz, the enticing perfume of Creole food, and the vivacious atmosphere of Mardi Gras. Explore these five finest U.S. tourist locations, where each step exposes a new chapter in America's vivid tale of landscapes, cultures, and experiences.
Here are some of the best US tourist destinations.
1. New York City, the Urban Wonder: The "Big Apple," New York City, is an iconic representation of metropolitan energy and variety. World-famous monuments such as Times Square, Central Park, and the Statue of Liberty dominate the cityscape. Broadway features spectacular plays, and the skyline is highlighted by architectural marvels like the Empire State Building. The cultural melting pot brings together individuals from various walks of life, represented in the boroughs' different characteristics. New York City promises a memorable urban trip, whether wandering through the creative districts of Brooklyn, discovering the high-end boutiques on Fifth Avenue, or relishing varied cuisines in Queens.
2. Grand Canyon National Park: A Majestic Canvas of Nature: Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona is a must-see for a spectacular encounter with nature's majesty. The Grand Canyon, carved by the Colorado River over millions of years, is a massive masterpiece of rock formations that reveals layers of Earth's past. Hike around the rim for panoramic views, or go within the canyon for a more immersive experience. The South Rim is very popular, as it provides breathtaking views and access to Grand Canyon Village. This natural beauty is a tribute to the Earth's geological miracles, as the sunshine varies the canyon's colours throughout the day.
3. The Magic of Theme Parks in Orlando, Florida: Because of its world-class theme parks, Orlando, Florida, is synonymous with enchantment and thrills. Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando provide an unrivalled playground for families and thrill seekers. The Enchantment Kingdom brings Disney's enchantment to life, while Universal Studios immerses guests in cinematic experiences. Aside from the theme parks, Orlando has bustling neighbourhoods, superb eating options, and a thriving cultural scene. Orlando's warm weather and multitude of entertainment options weave a spell that keeps people returning for more.
4. Yellowstone National Park: Geothermal Wonders and Wildlife Extravaganza: Yellowstone National Park, located largely in Wyoming but expanding into Montana and Idaho, is a nature lover's paradise. Yellowstone, the world's first national park, is a large swath of untouched wilderness filled with geothermal wonders, broad meadows, and diverse fauna. With its frequent outbursts, Old Faithful, a dependable geyser, captivates observers. The park also serves as a haven for famous American species such as bison, elk, and grizzly bears. The Grand Prismatic Spring, the biggest hot spring in the United States, offers a vivid splash of colour to the park's natural tapestry. Yellowstone National Park provides an authentic experience in the center of wild nature.
5. Jazz, Cuisine, and Mardi Gras Revelry in New Orleans: With its unusual combination of French, African, and American influences, New Orleans stands out as a cultural jewel in the southern United States. The city is known for its vibrant music culture, particularly jazz, which can be heard echoing through the old streets of the French Quarter. Creole and Cajun foods, as well as beignets and gumbo, are among the culinary highlights. Mardi Gras, a carnival event famed for its parades, vivid costumes, and joyous attitude, brings the dynamic atmosphere to a climax. Aside from the celebrations, tourists may explore the historic mansions of the Garden District, take a riverboat excursion down the Mississippi River, or simply enjoy the distinct beauty of this city that dances to its own beat.
After exploring the finest U.S. tourist locations, it is clear that the United States provides a rich mosaic of experiences for tourists from all over the world. Whether it's navigating New York City's bustling streets, marvelling at the Grand Canyon's majesty, immersing oneself in the enchantment of Orlando's theme parks, connecting with nature in Yellowstone, or savouring the cultural vibrancy of New Orleans, each destination promises a unique adventure.
It is critical for individuals who are eager to engage in this adventure to manage the practical issues. Securing a tourist visa to the United States is a critical step for foreign tourists, especially those seeking a visa from India. Navigating the US visa service guarantees a straightforward process, letting travellers concentrate on the excitement of visiting these amazing locations. The US tourist visa not only allows access to renowned destinations but also promotes cultural interchange, leaving people who go with memorable experiences.
As tourists fantasize about the different landscapes, colourful cultures, and unique moments that the United States has to offer, the availability of a US visa from India gives a tangible dimension to their fantasies. In essence, these sites not only display America's beauty but also serve as portals to developing worldwide relationships and generating cherished experiences that will last a lifetime.

ALMOST HONEST Previews Raucous 3rd LP, ‘The Hex of Penn's Woods’
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate
Tumblr media
Album Art by Francesca Vecchio
I'm a big fan of songs that reflect the regional lore of where a band hails from. Enter 'The Hex of Penn's Woods' (2023) by ALMOST HONEST, a New Cumberland, Pennsylvania act blessed with the boisterous energy of Red Fang, the harmonic luster of Crobot, and the riff-power of Black Sabbath. For this outing, the band says: "We did historical research, genealogical research, we traveled, we explored inside ourselves, we brought our emotions to the forefront and so much more to bring this album to life." Let's take a look at several of its 11 songs.
"Mortician Magician" introduces us to the record's magnetic guitar-driven sound. A tribute to B-movies, the song features bouncy drums, funky bass, ravaging riffage, clean, earnest lead vocals and aggressive backing vox.
"Laughter Of The Deer Owl" follows and welcomes in a band-made creature with the head of an owl, the body of a deer, the wings of a fly, and octopus tentacles to boot! "It appears," they say, "only to people who have lost everything including the will to live." You'll find the deer owl featured on the front cover artwork, which also gives a nod to "the Dutch Hex signs that you see on the side of barns throughout Pennsylvania." Brandon Yeagley of Crobot makes a guest appearance during the chorus.
The focus on weird cryptids continues with "Alien Spiders," which joins the previous track as one of the singles and features lyrics composed when two of the founding members were 11 years old. Front man Shayne Reed is on point with his guitar lead -- it seems to tell a story without words -- and the rhythm section is robust, giving way to hearty shouts.
"Amish Hex" rounds out the three singles with a tale of an Amish lad who gets picked on and discovers a book called (wait for it) The Hex of Penn's Woods. "The lyrics push forth powerful south central Pennsylvania imagery," says the band. This one opens with an old-style riff and has an air of mystery and tragedy about it.
Another track of interest to me was "Where the Quakers Dwell," which Almost Honest says is about the history of this area, "including local Native American tribes, fruit, traditions, folklore and geography." I'm once again impressed by how much thought the band has put into the songs on this album. The vibe is groovy, with a grindy midsection that reminds me of Stone Temple Pilots, but holds its own identity admirably.
There's plenty more to experience on this packed record, a tribute to weird, quirky metallic rock and dark folk stories, played heavy, bright, and tight. Almost Honest's The Hex of Penn's Woods drops on Black Friday on compact disc and in digital format via Argonauta Records (pre-order here). Stick it on a playlist with Lo Pan, Caustic Casanova, All Hail The Yeti, Sasquatch, and Freedom Hawk.

SOME BUZZ
Coughed up from a smoke filled corner deep in the Central Pennsylvania rock scene in 2012, Almost Honest is a four-piece riff conspiracy dipped in enough sludge to choke mammoth, enough groove to make the dead dance, lyrics that could summon a Sasquatch and make her sing along, and a tonal brilliance that was crafted by master sound-smiths and enchanted by sonic-shamans.
Helmed by the darkly dulcet guitarist Shayne Reed, driven by the jungle rattling bassist Garrett Spangler, lifted up by the immense leads of David Kopp and powered by the ent-war thump of drummer Quinten Spangler, Almost Honest has evolved into a rock act to be reckoned with. Their debut studio full length album, 2017's 'Thunder Mouth' showcases a clarity of direction all but unheard of among debut albums.
Tumblr media
Two years and thousands of toured miles later, 2019's 'Seiches And Sirens,' an anthemic atomic payload, detonated on impact with the local music community and showed the Pennsylvania rock scene a new kind of animal. Their southern metal sensibilities and dedication to the craft of *the show* shine brightly and remind audiences that great rock can and *should* be great fun. All of these ingredients bubbling in Almost Honest cauldron, and it's easy to see how their brew appeals to so very many, from genre die-hards to even the most casual listener.
Not contented with their cavalier domination of Pennsylvania metal and hard rock, where they have been featured on hard rock radio staple 105.7 The X, Almost Honest has struck out farther, having toured — *flown their jolly roger* — all across the eastern United States and invading the dreams and streams of Asia, Europe, South America, North America, and Australia.
youtube
2020, a cursed year by any metric, should have been a circle around a brighter kind of star for Almost Honest, and everyone else. With tour dates canceled across the planet, and a creeping sort of dementia lingering over everything, it's easy to understand why so many acts took the year as a loss. Almost Honest, however, had not.
Focusing the energy they would have put into extensive touring and using ritual druid magics, they conceived, wrote, and recorded a brand new album: 'The Hex Of Penn's Woods.' A conceptual leviathan, 'The Hex Of Penn's Woods' boasts a nearly arcane dedication to lyrical content and wisely eclectic musicianship, recording and mixing from top-tier Dynamo Audio Studios, mastering from iconic metal production wizard Machine (Gene Freeman), and artwork by the grimly baroque Italian master Francesca Vecchio.
Almost Honest is poised to deliver more of their unique, creamy fuzz soaked, metallic prog-funk potion, with a riot punch live show that Pennsylvania head bangers have come to crave as soon as the world is ready

Steve Hely, writer for The Office and American Dad , and recipient of the Thurber Prize for American Humor, presents a travel book about his journey through Central and South America. Part travel book, part pop history, part comic memoir, Hely's writing will make readers want to reach for their backpack and hiking boots. The Wonder Trail is the story of a trip from Los Angeles to the bottom of South America, presented in 102 short chapters. From Mexico City to Oaxaca; into ancient Mayan ruins; the jungles, coffee plantations, and remote beaches of Central America; across the Panama Canal; by sea to Colombia; to the wild Easter celebration of Popay n; to the Amazon rainforest; the Inca sites of Cuzco and Machu Picchu; to the Gal pagos Islands; the Atacama Desert of Chile; and down to wind-worn Patagonia at the bottom of the Western Hemisphere; Steve traveled collecting stories, adventures, oddities, marvels, bits of history and biography, tales of weirdos, fun facts, and anything else interesting or illuminating. Steve's plan was to discover the unusual, wonderful, and absurd in Central and South America, to seek and find the incredible, delightful people and experiences that came his way. And the book that resulted is just as fun. A blend of travel writing, history, and comic memoir, The Wonder Trail will inspire, inform, and delight.

More corrupt antics by Florida's Republican Party politician Ron DeSantis seeking to oppress anyone or anything that is PRO Civil Rights, PRO Freedom of Speech, and PRO Freedom of Information.
This is just DeSantis PROVING he has NO PROBLEM WITH ABUSING HIS POLITICAL POWER.
Therefore, NOT a guy American citizens would want in the White House!
Roy & Walt Disney did everything legitimately when districting for the Walt Disney World park.
Furthermore, the Walt Disney World park has shown more ethical 'environmental practices' than the State of Florida itself. (So Disney hardly needs a PRO pollution Republican politician like embittered DeSantis telling Disney what it can and cannot do.)
Seems DeSantis could learn a thing or two about ethical practices from Disney rather than undermining the park's districting out of spite.
"But the law does change who controls the government overseeing Disney's kingdom in the state, which could be a harbinger of looming battles as tension mounts between the company, which has increasingly embraced progressive social issues, and the conservative state that has taken up leading a crusade against what it describes as 'woke ideology.'
The new roster of board members, whom DeSantis named Monday, includes Bridget Ziegler, a conservative education activist and co-founder of the right-wing group Moms for Liberty; Ron Peri, chairman of the Gathering USA, a Christian ministry; and three attorneys, including the president of the Federalist Society’s Orlando chapter.
'He appointed cultural warriors, Christian national-types. That’s not an overstatement,' said Richard Foglesong, a political scientist and the author of 'Married to the Mouse: Walt Disney World and Orlando.'
In recent years, Disney has overhauled its products and amusement parks, drawing the ire of conservatives.
Visitors to the Magic Kingdom’s fireworks show are now met with a gender-neutral greeting, a departure from previous welcomes addressing 'ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.' The company has also revamped older attractions criticized as insensitive, including the Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean, and is transforming Splash Mountain into a new 'Princess and the Frog'-themed ride after years of complaints about the racism prevalent in 'Song of the South,' the 1946 film that inspired the ride.
The appointees — whom Foglesong likened to appointees to airport authorities or a public works department — don't have say over Disney's products. But they could leverage their positions in Florida’s ongoing culture war clash with Disney in any future requests the company makes for roads, new projects or other ventures.
'That’s a combustible mix, it seems to me, to have people who are censors who are working as supervisors for an arm of the Walt Disney company,' Foglesong said.
The law also changed the special district’s name from the Reedy Creek Improvement District to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. In addition, the bill removed some other periphery privileges, such as prohibiting Disney from building a nuclear power plant or an airport at the resort, which the company was unlikely to ever use.
'I think [Disney is] more threatened now than I imagined they would be,' Foglesong said, pointing to the slate of appointees. The New College of Florida in Sarasota, where DeSantis is embarking on a mission to overhaul the small, progressive school into a model of conservatism, is a cautionary tale, he added.
But in other ways, it’s mostly business as usual, at least for now, experts say. Many essential privileges that made Reedy Creek unique remain intact, including the ability to issue bonds. 'Those are the special things about what Reedy Creek did,' Schumer said.
Reedy Creek was born in part from the lessons that brothers Walt and Roy Disney learned from operating Disneyland in Anaheim, which opened in 1955. Their ambitions were curtailed by government red tape, having to work with the city for public services and on zoning issues.
As the brothers looked to expand Disney’s footprint — only 10% of the people who came to Disneyland in California came from east of the Mississippi River — they wanted to have their own self-regulating system. The company eventually settled on Florida and worked with lawmakers to establish the Reedy Creek Improvement District in 1967. The theme park opened a few years later in 1971.
The district, spanning about 40 square miles in Orange and Osceola counties, provides everything from fire protection and emergency medical services to water systems, flood control and electric power generation. Its boundaries include four theme parks, two water parks, a sports complex, 175 miles of roadway, the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, utility centers, more than 40,000 hotel rooms and hundreds of restaurants and retail stores, according to its website.
What's ahead for Disney remains to be seen. DeSantis has called upon the board to propose additional changes in authorities and exemptions in a year and again in five years, Foglesong noted.
'Maybe down the road, [DeSantis] will be able to take another bite of the apple and take away powers and exemptions that the Disney company still has,' Foglesong said."

Tumblr media
A liquid weight reduction supplement called Biotox Gold is intended to help you lose belly fat and detox your body.
Daily use of Biotox Gold drops is said to help you lose weight quickly by utilizing a "30-second morning ritual."
Read on to learn everything we have to say about Biotox Gold and how it functions right now in our review.
Describe Biotox Gold.
A weight loss pill called Biotox Gold is only offered online at BiotoxGold.com.
The liquid mixture, which is made from a combination of concentrated natural substances, is intended to increase energy and metabolism and make it simpler to lose weight.
Reviews posted on the official Biotox Gold website claim that after using the supplement for just two months, or over one pound each day, some users have dropped over 50 pounds. With Biotox Gold, one customer lost 18 pounds in just 10 days, coming close to losing 2 pounds each day.
Each bottle of Biotox Gold costs $79, and there is a 60-day money-back guarantee on all purchases.
What Is the Process of Biotox Gold?
People who have previously attempted diets but didn't get the results they sought are the target market for Biotox Gold. Diets often fail to help individuals shed pounds because they don't address the hormone that causes fat to resist being broken down into fatty acids, claim the producers of Biotox Gold.
Even when you follow a healthy diet and exercise routine and do everything else right, it becomes nearly impossible to lose weight if your body has high amounts of a particular hormone that makes you resistant to fat.
By regulating and bringing these fat-resistant hormone levels back to normal, Biotox Gold intends to assist in your quest for effective weight loss results.
To reduce weight quickly, just take 10 drops of Biotox Gold day (a total of 30 drops). based on testimonials from customers posted on the
Simply take 10 drops of Biotox Gold daily for a total of 30 drops to reduce weight quickly. Customers claim that while taking Biotox Gold, they dropped between 0.5 and 1 pound of fat every day, which resulted in noticeable weight loss within a few weeks.
Who Is the Maker of Biotox Gold?
Tonya was the person who invented Biotox Gold. When Tonya entered her home one day, she discovered her husband having an affair with a woman half her age. The incident resulted in divorce because Tonya was heartbroken.
Tonya chose to exact revenge rather than grow angry. She started looking for the greatest and simplest weight-loss techniques.
To cut a long tale short, Tonya discovered the components in Biotox Gold, experimented with various formulae on herself, and now offers the solution for sale online to anyone seeking effective weight loss results.
Tonya quickly lost a significant amount of weight while using Biotox Gold. Her ex-husband is now miserable and unmarried but Tonya is happier than ever because she slept with a more attractive man than him.
Ingredients in Biotox Gold
Multiple liquid chemicals are concentrated combined in Biotox Gold. Some of these components increase your metabolism, while others work to restore normal levels of the hormone that prevents weight loss.
In total, 20 organic plants, according to Biotox Gold's creators, have been added to the recipe. We are aware of many of the chemicals in Biotox Gold and how they function, despite the fact that they do not initially give the complete list of ingredients, dosages, and concentrations.
The following are some of the components of Biotox Gold and how they function:
Ginseng is one of the Biotox Gold compounds with the strongest scientific support. Ginseng, which has been used for millennia in traditional Korean and Chinese medicine, can increase immunity and metabolism while getting your body ready to lose more weight.
Guarana has been used for energy and metabolism for generations and is a plant that grows naturally in the South American jungles. Today, guarana and caffeine are sometimes combined in well-known energy drinks to increase energy. According to the company, the guarana in Biotox Gold can increase energy and offer anti-aging advantages while also making it simple to maintain a calorie deficit.
Natural antioxidants like resveratrol are abundant in grape seed extract. Resveratrol, which is also included in wine, is valued for its anti-aging and weight-loss properties. The sole drawback to resveratrol is that it requires large quantities of grapes (or wine) to provide a sufficient level for human consumption. You can obtain a significant amount of resveratrol from the concentrated grape seed extract in Biotox Gold to hasten weight loss and have anti-aging effects.
Malabar Tamarind: The producers of Biotox Gold claim that this unusual ingredient is only known to residents of a tiny Indonesian community. In actuality, Garcinia cambogia, one of the most popular ingredients in diet pills during the past ten years, is also known as Malabar tamarind. Garcinia cambogia is an ingredient in every drop of Biotox Gold, and it works to suppress hunger, speed up weight reduction, increase metabolism and energy, and support weight loss goals.
Cayenne pepper: The active component of cayenne pepper, capsaicin, is present in Biotox Gold. It has been demonstrated that capsaicin "heats up" your body to promote fat burning, making it simpler to drop considerable amounts of weight. By taking the cayenne pepper in Biotox Gold on a regular basis, you're assisting your body in burning fat and facilitating the maintenance of a calorie deficit.
African mango extract, along with garcinia cambogia, is one of the most popular components in weight-loss supplements over the past ten years. A potent amount of African mango extract, which is often used to reduce hunger, increase metabolism, and promote fat burning, is present in every serving of Biotox Gold.
Green Tea Extract: Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) from green tea extract is a component of Biotox Gold. According to studies, green tea extract and its antioxidants, notably EGCG, can result in noticeable weight loss. By ingesting Biotox Gold on a regular basis, you're saturating your body with antioxidants that can promote fat burning, put your body into weight loss mode, and support healthy inflammation all over your body to get you ready for more weight loss.
Two amino acids, L-tryptophan and L-carnitine, are present in Biotox Gold. The two well-known amino acids help weight loss in several ways. Because of its benefits for blood flow, vitality, and muscular growth, L-carnitine is a common ingredient in preworkout and post-workout supplements. L-tryptophan, on the other hand, is a common ingredient in sleep aid supplements due to its association with calm. Although the two amino acids function differently, they both serve as the basis for protein in the body and may have significant implications on total energy and weight loss.
Chromium: Only one mineral, chromium, has been connected to weight loss and blood sugar control in Biotox Gold. As a result of chromium's effects on blood sugar, many diabetics take it regularly. A chromium supplement may be essential because research indicates that diabetics typically have lower levels of chromium than non-diabetics.
Additional Herbal and Plant Extracts: Biotox Gold also includes a blend of additional herbal and plant extracts from various parts of the world, such as mace, licorice (including the glycyrrhizin found in licorice), raspberry ketones, eleuthero root, and others.
Research Supporting Biotox Gold
Limited details regarding the dietary supplement, how it functions, and the science behind the formulation are provided by Biotox Gold's manufacturers. However, the official website claims that users of Biotox Gold have lost between 0.5 and 2 pounds of fat every day. We'll go through some of the research that backs up Biotox Gold below.
A limited number of references are cited on the official Biotox Gold website to support its assertions. But the majority of those sources are blogs rather than placebo-controlled studies that were disseminated in scholarly publications. Additionally, it is challenging to evaluate Biotox Gold in comparison to other supplements or recent research without knowing the amount or concentration of any ingredient in the supplement.
The producers of Biotox Gold cite this 2013 study on the natural component as evidence that Garcinia cambogia (marketed as Malabar tamarind) delivers the results claimed. Researchers discovered hydroxycitric acid (HCA), a natural molecule contained in Garcinia cambogia, in that study. HCA may help with serotonin levels and glucose uptake, resulting in anti-obesity actions.
Ginseng, another ingredient in Biotox Gold, has been utilised as a natural medicine for thousands of years. Currently, ginseng has been linked in several research to considerable weight loss effects. For instance, in one 2014 study, researchers discovered that ginseng significantly influenced weight loss and enhanced participant's gut microbiome.
Green tea extract, also known as EGCG on the official Biotox Gold website, is one of the weight loss supplements in Biotox Gold with the strongest scientific backing. Green tea contains a natural antioxidant called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which has been linked to significant weight loss benefits. Researchers discovered in this 2009 study that the catechism in green tea, notably EGCG, dramatically reduced body weight. In a different study from 2014, researchers looked at 14 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on green tea. They discovered that majority of these trials showed persistent, stable weight loss, with participants losing, on average, 4 to 6 lbs. more weight than a placebo.
Despite the fact that some of the Biotox Gold chemicals have been related to weight reduction, there isn't much proof that they may actually help you lose 0.5 to 2 pounds every day, particularly without diet or exercise.
How Much Weight Can You Lose With Biotox Gold?
Customers have reported losing between 0.5 and 1 lb. per day when taking Biotox Gold, according to customer testimonials posted on the official Biotox Gold website.
For instance, some clients have reduced up to 50 lbs. in just two months without any altering their eating or workout routines.
A healthy diet and exercise routine can often result in weekly weight loss of between 0.5 and 1 pounds. You must maintain a daily calorie deficit of about 500 to lose 1 pound per week. Customers of Biotox Gold, on the other hand, claim to lose up to 1lb daily, which is an impressive weight loss outcome.
Following are some customer testimonials for Biotox Gold that mention its ability to help people lose weight:
One reviewer calls Biotox Gold "one of the best buys [she] ever made," claiming the supplement has helped her lose a significant amount of weight. In general, the reviewer calls Biotox Gold "a game changer."
One user reports that since starting to take Biotox Gold, his energy levels "have surged." He calls the supplement "an outstanding product for weight loss" and says it has also helped him in other areas of his life.
One customer claims to have "lost over 50 pounds" in just "2 short months" of using Biotox Gold; she used it every morning, once daily, and went from 273 pounds to 218 pounds (55 pounds total), all while feeling better and having more energy than ever before. She also claims she did not use any "useless diets or crazy exercises" to achieve these impressive weight loss results.
One consumer was dubious about Biotox Gold and how it worked, but she decided to give it a try and dropped about 2 pounds per day, or 18 pounds, using the product.
Thousands of men and women have "lost 20, 40, and even 100lbs" by taking Biotox Gold, claims the official website.
