365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
Team Supplemental - The Winter Guard
The Winter Guard (Зимняя гвардия) are a government sponsored team of extraordinary individuals with special abilities. They fight for the people of the Russian Federation and their interests around the globe. The team is formed from members of the Soviet Super-Soldiers that existed before the fall of the Soviet Union.  They have been described as ‘Russia's answer for the Avengers.’
Principle members of the team include Vanguard, Darkstar, Ursa Major, Red Guardian, Crimson Dynamo and The Red Widow.
The Soviet Super Soldiers first appeared in the pages of Incredible Hulk Vol. 1 #258 (1981); whereas The Winter Guard first appeared in Iron Man Vol. 3 #9 (1998).

The Union of Soviet Super Soldiers (USSS):
It's 1976 or 1977. At least 12 years since the avengers were founded in the US. The Soviet Union is desperate to create their own superhero team to rival the avengers. They've tried to create figures like the Red Guardian, or the Crimson Dynamo or Titanium Man before, but it always fails. But perhaps it's because they never assembled a proper team? That's the logic that leads to the creation of the Union of Soviet Super Soldiers (Or USSS for short) in 1976 or 1977.
Founded in July 1976, the original team consists of:
Red Guardian III (Vladimir Ivanov): I already have a whole note on him. But he's the team leader, and one of the members of the team most devoted to Communism.
Vanguard (Nikolai Krylenko): He's a real comics character. I'm pretty sure you can find info on him through a Marvel Wiki or through Google (that's how I learned of him).
The Winter Witch (Katerina Obolensky): Abandoned as a child in the snowy mountains of Siberia, Katerina Obolensky learned to be one with the ice and snow. Nobody is sure if she's a mutant or some kind of demigod, but she is definitely powerful. Capable of controlling the ice, snow and winds at a single thought. She can generate winds, blizzards, avalanches, etc. When in her natural element she is a god amongst men. But when she's far separated from any form of cold, she becomes weak and frail.
The Gift-Bringer (Adrian Abel): Adrian Abel is a mutant. Born with the uncanny ability to control poison and even generate it (they can turn their whole body into poison dust or into liquid poison, for instance), they were considered a threat to others and sent off to an elite mutant training facility in Russia. There, they learned how to control their powers and make themselves less dangerous to others. Worst comes to worst, they were at least given a containment suit to prevent them from accidentally killing anyone with their poison.
Considering how powerful they are, it's only natural Adrian was recruited to the USSS. They're both powerful and extremely volatile, however. So they possibly be the most dangerous person on the team. So they require extreme protective measures to ensure they don't accidentally poison the people they're trying to help.
PS: Adrian is the only character not originally from the USSR. They're East German. I realized the German word for poison is gift due to google translate, and so I couldn't resist this bit of humour.
Crimson Dynamo (Dmitri Bukharin): Same as Vanguard. The Crimson Dynamo (including this version of him) is a real comics character who can find out more about through Google or a Marvel Wiki or something.
If you're wondering where in the timeline of comics this is supposed to be, it's shortly after Darkstar defects to the US to join The Champions. And she will join this team eventually, if someone (either me or literally anyone else) takes this idea past the concept stage.

Soviet Super Soldiers #1
Ambitious. Chaotic.
Extradited back to Russia, the Soviet Super Soldiers are freed by Siberforce and they all go on the run, chased by Firefox. In Lenigrad, the Supreme Soviets battle Unicorn. In America, Crimson Dynamo tries to capture the Titanium Man.
64 pages of non-stop action and non-stop story is too much. The narrative strands don't intersect, everybody more or less stays in their own lane. But it's a lot to take in. (I read back over most of it a second time.) It feels like Nicieza is trying to launch about 3 different series here. I wanted to like it, but it's way too dense to succeed as an entertaining story in this form.
On Sale Date: September 22, 1992.
Wizard Top 100: #51.

Being a superhero in the Soviet Union would, by nature, require also being a guerilla or at least an agitator. The Soviet government did not like do gooders and it certainly didn't like them outside of state control.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
December 4th - Ursa Major
Mikhail Uriokovitch Ursus is a Russian born Mutant who has the ability to transform himself into an enormous bear-like creature that possesses greatly increased strength, speed and resiliency.  Ursus was born in the years following the second World War.  It was a turbulent and deadly time for Mutants in the former Soviet Union.  Many exhibiting active X-genes were rounded in secret and executed.
The military scientist, Professor Phobos, was able to convince the governmental officials to allow him to train a group of Mutants as potential agents loyal to the Soviet State.  Ursus was one of Phobos’ first recruits, alongside fellow Mutants, Vanguard and his sister Darkstar.  These three became The Soviet Super Soldiers and Ursus chose the alias of Ursa Major after the star a constellation which in Latin translates to ‘greater bear.’
The Soviet Super Soldiers were sent on many missions, a number of which saw them encountering super heroes of the West, including The Hulk, Iron Man, The X-Men and The Avengers.  Ursus found that the longer the time he spent in his bear-like form the harder it was to control his more savage instincts.  Remaining in his bear form diminished his cognitive faculties, leaving him progressively more animalistic.
It was ultimately discovered that Professor Phobos had ulterior motives to use the Super Soldiers for his own nefarious ends.  Phobos was arrested, Vanguard and Darkstar defected and Ursus himself ended up sent to a gulag in Siberia.
Ursus was released some time after the fall of the Soviet Union.  He has since been recruited into the Winter Guard and has additionally acted as an ambassador for Russia to the nation of Wakanda.
Mikhail Ursus features in a brief cameo in the MCU movie, The Black Widow, portrayed by actor Olivier Richters.  Ursa Major first appeared in the pages of Incredible Hulk Vol. 1 #250 (1980).
