This IMDB interview for Spider-Man Far From Home hurts so bad now. All she does is talk about how much she loves working with everyone and she loves playing Maria and doing these movies and how everyone is so great to work with and how much she trusts Marvel and their process and then they killed her off.

Also bonus: Anthony Mackie comes to Cobie Smulders for relationship advice and now she won't even get to be with him in any new Cap stuff. UGH. This interview is so cute too.

Especially frustrating in another interview at San Diego Comic Con --- where Cobie was the ONLY cast member to show up to promote Secret Invasion and the whole audience was lead to believe she had a "major" role in the show Cobie confirmed that in Spider-Man Far From Home Maria and Fury were made to be skrulls (Soren & Talos) after the fact because there was no conceivable way for Fury and Maria to be tricked by Quentin Beck-- especially because Maria worked at Stark Industries! If you were watching Spider-Man in theaters like me and said out loud mid movie there is no way Fury & Maria would fall for this-- you were right! They wouldn't and this was the only way to get around that major fact. Another reason why Maria getting killed the way she was killed was such a waste. There's just no way that Maria would tell Fury 'you can't do this' and then he goes 'i'm going to do it' and she's like 'okay i'll help!! bad idea but shrug emoji let's go!'

Ah, the nerd-love arc. The nerd has created a long and complex plan to try and woo the girl, never realizing that the girl's already into him. I don't remember seeing a lot of this in my childhood but I've certainly seen it a few times in the '10s and here in the early '20s.

And whoa-ho-ho is MJ definitely already into Peter. I can't really blame him for not noticing because he's like 15 and she is inscrutable. Peter has the misfortune of being interested in a person who is easily one of the hardest characters to read in the entire MCU. Zendaya's MJ makes being stoic an art form.

But to an outside observer, it's obvious. MJ goes out of her way to interact with Peter all the time, even seeking him out in crowds. She's the one who starts every conversation. She's trying very hard to get him to talk to her and spend time with her.

He's just too full of teenage nervousness to realize what that means. Too busy panicking every time she approaches him out of nowhere to strike up a conversation to pick up on the fact that she's constantly approaching him out of nowhere to strike up conversations.

Peter is trying to figure out the perfect way to pursue MJ, totally unaware that MJ is already pursuing him.

Another sad thing about Secret Invasion was that the writers didn't have Maria call Fury "Nick" which was a sign of her importance but they erased it for a cheap line.

although she might have said Nick right before the *happening*

I think this was probably done by lazy writing in order to make that joke about 'nobody calling him Nick' when Talos is taken hostage, a little Captain Marvel call back. But in reality Maria has called Fury Nick for along time but in Secret Invasion she calls him "Fury" multiple times. Is this a sign of a fractured relationship or just another way that they diminished their longstanding relationship.

anyways here's a cute clip of the Maria + Fury relationship during the time they shot Far From Home (before they changed them or told them they were going to skrulls aha). Fun fact about Far From Home: it was shot before Endgame came out so Cobie and Sam had no idea how their characters came back to life and shared sides to try and figure it out and it was a surprise for them both to be asked to do this movie! I actually think this movie is super cute and I think them being skrulls was a good addition to the movie because there's just no way Maria and Fury could have been tricked so badly otherwise!

Also just an edit/addition: In Secret Invasion at the bar where Maria and Nick are talking Maria says "are you sure that's not about someone else?" when Fury talks about his failings. She was talking about Varra!!! which means Maria was one of the very few people who knew Nick was married to a skrull.

Just saying it would have been more meaningful if she got to call him Nick a few more times before the end.

This is coming out in October. I've not seen any advertising for this on the wild. I had to go out of my way to watch the trailer.

None of the superhero YouTube channels are posting videos about this. There's no "Fifty Easter Eggs you Missed in the Kraven Trailer". .

There's not even a TV tropes page. A search for Kraven on Tumblr yields like... Two posts from Aaron Taylor Johnson fans and nothing else. Everything else has to do with the Spiderman video game or the comics.

And this movie... Doesn't have Spider-Man. The guy who's entire schtick is hunting down Spider-Man... Has no Spider-Man. And it's rated R, so lord knows neither Tom Holland or Miles Morales is gonna face off against the guy in the future.

Why isn't he a goofy villain in one of the main Spider-Man movies? The dude looks like White Black Panther. He looks like Cruella De Ville's Drag King persona. He looks like he'd be cancelled on twitter for using #kinkatpride. Who looked at this goofy silver age villain and thought "yeah, this guy looks like he means business".
