Bait And Switch Texas Tribune newsletter in list of Today's Best says, "The Texas attorney general has initiated an inquiry into a pivotal Boeing supplier, which is currently under federal regulatory scrutiny for the quality of its aircraft parts supplied to the manufacturer." Well, tickle me pink, Ken Paxton doing a good thing. Then I wonder if Spirit AeroSystems is in Texas... Nope. It's based in Kansas. Tho San Antonio does Boeing repair at Port San Antonio [prior Kelly/Lackland AFB]. So why bother getting into a Kansas and Washington state matter. Ah. Queers and blacks. He wants a list of all the queers and blacks. Well, that man is lower than a snake's belly in a wagon rut.

Boeing and its 737 are a textbook case. In October 2018 and March 2019, two crashes of an earlier version of the Max 737 killed 346 people, and grounded the planes for nearly two years. The disasters were ultimately traced to design failures in the model’s flight control software info that was not conveyed in its guidance to pilots, not to mention the Federal Aviation Administration, even though executives knew about it. Yet repercussions were almost nonexistent. A midlevel functionary charged criminally was acquitted by a jury in a matter of hours. It took the better part of a year — and two embarrassing days of congressional testimony — for Boeing to fire then-CEO Dennis Muhlenberg. The Trump administration ultimately decided to fine Boeing $2.5 billion for not informing the FAA about software changes that contributed to the fatal airline crashes, while deferring a criminal charge against the company. For Boeing, the fine effectively amounted to a business expense. The government even declared the company’s failure and misconduct “not pervasive,” a huge favor to a company facing massive lawsuits from victims’ families. Given this farcical excuse for accountability, it’s no surprise that the trouble didn’t stop for Boeing and the Max 737’s manufacturer, Spirit AeroSystems. The Lever reported Tuesday morning that a federal securities lawsuit filed last year against Spirit alleges “widespread and sustained quality failures,” including pressure on employees to downplay “defects.” And according to the Financial Times, last year Boeing itself flagged Spirit for improper installations and badly drilled holes on other 737s.
Boeing’s midair blowout is just a symptom of a much deeper rot
“For Boeing, the fine effectively amounted to a business expense.”
When I heard about this blowout on the 737, my first thought was, “this was caused by corporate greed and cutting corners, because Republicans have eviscerated accountability in corporate America.”
There is no satisfaction in learning that I am likely correct, just the grim knowledge that they’ll probably tighten some screws, but the rot at the core of the danger will be left untouched.

USAF's new B-21 “Raider” flying wing bomber made its first flight on Friday, the next step in the launch of a new fleet of nuclear-capable long-range stealth bombers built by Northrop Grumman.
The B-21 left the Northrop facility at U.S. Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California, at sunrise on Friday at 6:51 a.m., offering the first improvised view of the new bomber that was developed under strict security.
Tumblr media
The aircraft went to Edwards Air Base, California, where it will continue with the flight test phase with USAF. The flight lasted about 90 minutes.
With the Cerberus callsign, the aircraft took off eastward with an F-16 companion plane after climbing about 500 feet. The landing gear was not collected, according to videos and photos that appeared on social networks.
TAP TITLE BAR TO VIEW VIDEO☝️
U.S. Air Force leaders did not disclose the first flight of the B-21, but about three dozen aviation enthusiasts and amateur photographers gathered around Plant 42 on Friday in the hope of seeing the bomber rise to the skies.

The B-21, which carries the same "flying wing" format as its predecessor, the B-2, will be able to launch conventional and nuclear weapons around the world, using long-range and in-flight refueling capabilities.
The aircraft are projected to cost approximately $550 million each in 2010 dollars, or about $750 million in current inflation-adjusted dollars. However, the USAF kept other price information confidential, “which makes it difficult to validate the proposed cost,” the Congressional Research Service said in a 2021 report.
Tumblr media
Photo: Mike Henry
The U.S. Air Force plans to buy at least 100 planes and start replacing the B-1 and B-2 bombers. The B-1 costs about US$ 60,000 per hour to operate and the B-2 costs about US$ 65,000 per hour, according to Pentagon data.
Ann Stefanek, USAF spokesperson, said: “The B-21 Raider is in flight tests. Flight tests are a critical step in the testing campaign managed by the Air Force Test Center and the 412ª Combined Test Wings B-21 Test Force."
Tumblr media
Photo: Mike Henry
Six test aircraft are being produced now. They are being built on the same line, using the tools, processes and technicians that will build the production aircraft.
Tumblr media
Northrop defeated a team composed of Boeing and Lockheed Martin when it won the 2015 contract to manufacture the bomber. Engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, Collins Aerospace, GKN Aerospace, BAE Systems and Spirit Aerosystems are among more than 400 suppliers in 40 states.
The B-21 was publicly presented in December 2022, but the expectation around its first flight had been growing for years.
In 2019, an important Air Force general suggested that the bomber could fly as early as December 2021, but the Force subsequently postponed this date to mid-2022. In early 2022, the USAF postponed even more until 2023.
The B-21 program is in the engineering and manufacturing development phase and the first aircraft will be delivered to Ellsworth Air Force Base in North Dakota.
Tumblr media
Northrop is calling the plane a sixth-generation aircraft due to its ability to connect to other aircraft and easily integrate future weapons into its systems architecture.
Tumblr media
The B-21 also features surface material with low observation, more durable and stealthy, which should require less maintenance and reduce operating costs and downtime.

tbf the boeing situation seems p multifactorial. if it's a 737 MAX series, well, it's probably because they tried to retrofit a 60 year old design (rather than, like, 757s) to meet the technological standards of contemporary fly-by-wire, while keeping the changes minimal enough not to require a new type certification—a good selling point, and very much a round peg square hole approach! if it's any plane that came off the assembly line in the last decade it may have something to do with boeing contracting off manufacturing and QC to companies like spirit aerosystems (distinct from the airline) with minimal oversight, which has facilitated shoddy procedure. but if it's an older build... you are probably looking at bog-standard airline maintenance issues downstream from manufacturing. if it seems that there's a new boeing incident every other day part of it is because there are thousands of them in the air and the threshold for "incident" is anything unexpected,,

I found this commment on this video:

It does make one wonder if the quality has been a problem for this long, what has Boeing been doing. Yes Spirit Aerosystems is having problems but Boeing is the name on that plane and is the finally checker of the quality of that plane.

Boeing Whistleblower Found Dead In 'Midst Of' Retaliation Case; Attorney Says He’s Shocked
John Barnett, 62, was found dead of "self-inflicted" gunshot wound, police said.
— By Victor Ordonez and Amanda Maile | March 12, 2024

A former Boeing employee who raised numerous concerns about the company's production standards died from a "self-inflicted" gunshot wound Saturday, per a coroner's report. The former employee was actively engaged in a whistleblower complaint against the company prior to his death, the employee's attorney confirmed.
John Barnett, 62, was found by police officers on the morning of March 9 in a vehicle parked at a Holiday Inn along Savannah Highway "holding a silver hand gun in his right hand," according to the Charleston Police Department.
Police said they were responding to a hotel worker's call after the worker heard a "pop" from Barnett's vehicle about 30 minutes prior to officers arriving, per the police report. Barnett had checked into the hotel on March 2 and was due to check out on March 8.

Responding officers discovered a male inside a vehicle "suffering from a gunshot wound to the head," the incident report reads. "He was pronounced deceased at the scene."
The Charleston Police Department said the investigation is still active.
Barnett worked for Boeing for 32 years until his retirement in 2017. He had been actively involved in litigation against the company -- he was deposed before Boeing lawyers last week, according to his lawyer.
Barnett, 62, filed his whistleblower complaint shortly after his retirement from Boeing in 2017. He came forward publicly in 2019 when he and other former Boeing employees partook in interviews with The New York Times. Barnett and others accused Boeing of prioritizing profits over safety.
Tumblr media
"John was in the midst of a deposition in his whistleblower retaliation case, which finally was nearing the end," Barnett's attorneys, Robert Turkewitz and Brian Knowles, said in a statement Tuesday. "He was in very good spirits and really looking forward to putting this phase of his life behind him and moving on. We didn't see any indication he would take his own life. No one can believe it."
“Nope! He Didn’t Commit Suicide. He Was Murdered”
Boeing has moved to dismiss the case on several occasions and has denied all of Barnett's allegations – including claims the company put profits over safety. “Safety issues are immediately investigated, and changes are made wherever necessary,” said a Boeing spokesperson at the time of his lawsuit.
Upon learning of Barnett's passing, Boeing released a statement: "We are saddened by Mr. Barnett's passing, and our thoughts are with his family and friends."
The news follows the completion of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) audit of Boeing's production lines after a Boeing 737 MAX 9 plane lost its door plug mid-flight earlier this year.
Tumblr media
Local authorities found Boeing whistleblower John Barnett dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the state of South Carolina over the weekend, the Charleston County Coroner's Office said in a press release.
The New York Times reported Monday that Boeing failed 33 of 89 audits. Spirit Aerosystems -- a supplier for Boeing that manufactures the fuselage for the 737 -- failed 7 of 13 audits from the FAA.
In response to the results, Boeing said it will "continue to implement immediate changes and develop a comprehensive action plan to strengthen safety and quality, and build the confidence of our customers and their passengers."

IMAGES: French Navy receives the first H160 for search and rescue missions
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/22/2022 - 20:13in Helicopters
The French Navy received the first of six H160 helicopters that will carry out search and rescue missions (SAR).
The aircraft is part of the temporary fleet that will be delivered by the partnership formed between Airbus Helicopters, Babcock and Safran Helicopter Engines.
Tumblr media
"The delivery of the first H160 to a military customer is an important milestone for the H160 program," said Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters. "This is the first public service version of the H160 to be delivered worldwide. In addition, the delivery occurs soon after the entry into service of two H160s this summer, in Brazil for the private and executive aviation segment and in Japan for news collection missions," he added. "With this H160, we will strengthen our partnership with the French Navy, delivering the right helicopter for its critical search and rescue missions. Together with our partners, we will also ensure that the H160 is ready when necessary."
Tumblr media
In 2020, the General Directorate of Armaments of France (DGA) signed a contract with Airbus Helicopters, Babcock and Safran for the delivery of four H160s in a search and rescue (SAR) configuration. In 2021, DGA confirmed an option for two more H160s.
Tumblr media
The first H160 for the French Navy was delivered to Babcock by Airbus Helicopters in May 2022. Since then, it has been modified to a lightweight military configuration by Babcock. The modular cabin has also been adapted for SAR operations and a Safran Euroflir 410 electro-optical system has been integrated.
Tumblr media
The H160 will gradually begin operating from the Lanveoc-Poulmic naval air station (Breign), Cherbourg airport (Normandy) and the Hyères naval air station (Provence). The temporary fleet of H160s will ensure critical search and rescue missions while waiting for the delivery of the H160M Guépard. Under the French joint light helicopter program (Hélicoptère Interarmées Léger: HIL), 169 H160M Guépards helicopters are planned to replace five types of helicopters in service in the French armed forces. The operational feedback of the French Navy with these H160 will benefit the design of the military version of the aircraft and its associated support system.
Tumblr media
Babcock, in partnership with Airbus Helicopters and Safran Helicopters Engines, will ensure the highest level of availability for the French Navy and the continuity of SAR operations on the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. Built by Airbus Helicopters, the H160 is certified for the use of night vision goggles, necessary for night winch operations.
Tumblr media
The H160, as a next-generation medium-generation twin-engine aircraft, powered by Arrano engines, is modular by design to meet missions ranging from offshore transport, private and executive aviation, emergency medical services and public services.

Деградация лидера: скандалы вокруг Boeing
