Dear Spokane,
At the turn of the new year, we started the Spokane Pandemic Postcard Project as a way to stay connected with our community through the winter and spring months of the pandemic. Over the next six months, we were delighted to receive 48 postcards from 21 artists. We're grateful to all who shared their art with us!
Thank you to our contributors: Billi Jo, Chan, Ezra, Horst, Justin, Katy, Laura, Leslie A., Leslie N., Lynnette, Megan, Nan, Nancy, Rich, Robert, Scott, and several anonymous artists.
And thanks to Spokane Public Radio, Spokane 7, Spark Central, Spokane Arts, Centre for Arts Workers, and Spokane Coeur d'Alene Living for helping to spread the word within the Inland Northwest!
💌
Sincerely, Spokane Correspondence Club

February postcard #8:
"Inside the reverie We fluttered and shimmered Late drifting Into another lifetime
You asked me at the beginning About the last time I plunged I reluctantly, gradually recalled
You, a keeper of safety An abiding gesture A transfiguration The first of many
Of everything My favorite is you"

Dear Spokane,
With a delightfully warm end to April, meandering walks to the post office have brought almost as much joy as finding that new postcards have arrived for the pandemic postcard project. It's these kinds of things that have been keeping us grounded when much is uncertain.
Our theme for the month of May is "Carry." We invite you to submit a postcard with art inspired by the theme, in any medium you choose! Postcards are welcome from any location in the world. Please stop by correspondenceclub.tumblr.com/postcard-project for details.
We thank all of our contributors for helping to carry us through these months with their art!
Sincerely, Spokane Correspondence Club

Our fourth postcard for April is by Ezra, with a note that says, "These two are on vacation somewhere, floating in the ocean, living the dream. Is it weird I'm jealous of a seal and walrus?" 🍉
Thanks, Ezra!

This postcard was drawn and painted by Chan Random for our January theme of “Outside the Window.” Thanks for sending your postcard, Chan!
Top left: Declared foes are the squirrels who take & never are full.
Center left: The enemy eyes of a bird feed thief.
Bottom left: Friends are the stalker crows & their pushy asks.
Top right: Joy's smaller shadow is the drama & gossip of the finches at the feeder.
Bottom right: Plans are erased. Hopes dashed. We are waiting sometimes, in horror at human folly & division, bound by depression & inactivity, illuminated by creativity & production, or at peace with the face full of tiny treasures.

Dear Spokane,
We're thrilled that spring has arrived, and we're finding much to look forward to in the change of seasons. When we began our pandemic postcard project in January, we wanted a way to connect with our community as we each coped with the winter months of the pandemic. We're extending the project through spring, as a creative bridge to summer, when we're hopeful that we'll be able to see old friends and meet new ones.
We'll share new themes through June, and if our local community is in a safe place to hold an in-person event, we'd like to host an outdoor letter writing + mail art meetup in the summer. We invite you to send your postcard creations our way as we share each theme this spring, whether you're here in our home city, or elsewhere in the world!
Our theme for April is "float." Submission details for our postcard project can be found here!
Sincerely, Spokane Correspondence Club
