I'm not really part of the death note fandom anymore but Ive noticed an interesting bit of fanon.

A lot of fans draw/describe Light with tanned skin, when in the anime and manga he's fairly light-skinned. The only canon source I can think of where he has a tan completion is the official illustrations by Obata. (Comparison below)

Anyway I don't really have a point here but I would like to say, keeping drawing him with tan skin. It's an improvement from the show in my opinion.

It differentiates him further from L, making his pale skin look even more stark. It also makes it harder to confuse him for a white dude, which is good since Death Notes story is so rooted in Japanese society and its Justice system. Also generally tired of people making jokes that Light is a white man.

Hey death note fandom, I'm trying to find a fic I read about a year ago.

It was a story on fanfiction.net and it was set in alternative timeline of death note.

Basically it starts of with Sorchiro Yagami's funeral, which L attends. Sorchiro was killed in a car accident, but L is fairly sure it was kira's doing. Sorchiro and him were the only ones looking into the kira case at the time, with Sorchiro losing respect at NPA. They haven't found any new leads on the case.

L's approached by a college age Light yagami who wants to help continue to search for kira. L agrees to work with light, even if he's not exactly trusting of him, as he needs extra help. They both get an apartment by the TO-HO campus to investigate kira.

The fic was abandoned, and was made sometime in the early 2010s late 2000s. It was also a Lawlight fic, with some fake dating in its later chapters.

If anyone can link it or remember the title of the fic I'd be extremely grateful, it's one of my favorite Death note fics and I want to archive it.

min grew up in a strict familly. but no a strict like - go to your room! you got an F so you will be in this room to the end of the day! nahh. he grew up in a strict like - you got a b? go to the basement for whole weekend. yeah, you obviously can tell that his parents were absolutely obsessed with his grades and dosent gave a damn about their son feelings. when the other kids were playing at the playground after school, seungmin was learning 8th grader’s level physics. friends? who would be like to be friends with a ugly nerd? noone. he dosent had any time to play with sum friends either. i havent mention the very important things bout this kids childhood - his parents were abusive not only mentally - psychically too. especialy psychically. his body was covered in bruises, some blood stains and other wounds when he was only 5 or 6. he was never able to cry, because when his parents heard his crying - they went back to hit him harder. in highschool he was inlove with a popular, hot guy. somehow they ended up together, but it wasnt a healthy, good relationship. jay - because that was his first boyfriend name was really toxic and abusive. he told min to stay quiet about this relationship, because he wanted to „protect him” - absolutely not! he just was in another relationship with a hot, popular girl. when kim started to be a bit needy, and wanted to spend some more time with his bf jay, he started to be even more abusive. seungmin was crying every night to sleep but also he was thinking that jay loves him. now, seungmin is a crybaby who needs his special person, but is scared as fuck, because he thinks every person tho tries to be his special one wants to ruin him again.

247. Sonic the Hedgehog #178

House of Cards (Part 1 of 2)

Well, this already looks bad from that cover page. Indeed, the very first page of this issue begins with Nicole playing back some footage from earlier in the day which depicts Amadeus Prower leading an angry crowd through the streets of the city toward the castle, calling for freedom from the monarchy. Nicole has brought Rosemary, Tails, and Sonic together to show them this footage, wanting them to know why Amadeus has been arrested.

Nicole chides Sonic for being a bit thoughtless in his comment, but Sonic sticks by it, thinking Amadeus' actions are insult to Tails if anything considering his history in fighting for the right for the monarchy to exist at all, given Robotnik's takeover and all. Nicole is concerned, pointing out that things have been a bit distant between Tails and Sonic not just since Knothole's destruction, but ever since Sonic returned from space in the first place, but Sonic brushes it off with a comment about how they're like brothers before rushing out to find Knuckles, who it turns out is leaving the city today. Julie-Su and the rest of the Chaotix are confused and even (in the former's case) a little hurt, thinking it's a bad idea for him to just go off alone while insisting the rest of them stay here, but Knuckles insists it's the right thing to do and that he can handle things solo.

You know, I will say that I actually agree with Knuckles on this one for the most part. I don't think it's a good idea for him to leave everyone else behind - it would be much more prudent for him to take at the very least Julie-Su with him - but going back to Angel Island to check on things and try to repair things with his father is a good call, especially considering how bad things have gotten for the echidnas there. Sonic offers for him to take the gray Chaos Emerald back to the island, but he refuses what with the whole Dark Legion civil war plus dingoes thing going on there, not wanting it to get stolen in all that mess. With that, Knuckles uses the guiding star gem to teleport back to his homeland, leaving a worried Julie-Su behind. Shortly thereafter, King Elias heads to New Mobotropolis' jail to speak with Amadeus, though he's initially heckled by Sleuth, Nack, and Bean from behind the other cell doors. Mogul irritably tells them all to shut up, allowing Elias to ask Amadeus exactly why he incited a riot earlier that day.

Again, I agree with him! He's put into words a lot of the same opinions that I've previously expressed about the monarchy, and while certainly not everything bad that's happened in the past twenty years has been their fault, the sheer fact that this nation is led by a hereditary monarchy at all has led to a lot of really bad calls over the course of this comic, not to mention some outright abuse towards the heirs. When Sonic finds Elias later, he's sitting under a tree on a bench in the garden, Amadeus' words clearly having found their mark. He admits that he actually would like to give up power and give it to the people, but something else is holding him back. Or rather, someone, someone who has just been wheeled up by his wife, in fact.

Aaaand this is exactly the reason the monarchy should no longer be in power. I've already voiced my many, many criticisms of Maximillian, so I won't go into them yet again, but suffice to say that he represents everything wrong with the current state of the government. I get that he's pretty sick at this point, and he's dealt with a lot of awful things in his life that have led to his mental state not exactly being the most stable, but his views are still a problem, and he's not a good influence on his children. Alicia wheels him back to the castle for some rest, with Elias reluctantly following, leaving a confused Sonic wondering what exactly is going on here. Unfortunately, things are about to escalate pretty quickly. That night, Tails flies his mother into the boundaries of the jail and begins hacking his way in. When Nicole pops up to warn them away from trying to break in, she's momentarily shocked when she sees just who is leading the break-in, before Tails wordlessly yanks some wires and causes her to disappear from the immediate area. The two make their way into the jail, and Amadeus is shocked to see them, trying to warn them away so they don't end up jailed as well, but they both assure him that they support his mission and think that now is indeed the best time to act, for the stability of the city. Meanwhile, Nicole pops into Sonic's bedroom to wake him up and tell him that there's currently a break-in going on at the prison, but he rushes off before she's even able to tell him who's breaking in at all. By now, Tails and Rosemary have Amadeus out of his cell, and as Rosemary assures him that she's determined to free him due to her having a hand in writing the speech that got him here in the first place, Sonic shows up. Tails quickly hides in the ceiling vent, while Sonic walks forward, trying to talk Rosemary and Amadeus down from their plan.

Very, very bad move, Sonic. Tails furiously blindsides Sonic with a punch and yells for his parents to run while he holds Sonic off. Rosemary is against the idea, but Amadeus drags her along, reminding her that Tails is technically a war hero and can handle himself. They rush outside and quickly formulate a plan to infiltrate the castle and get Elias to step down from the throne before anything else happens, while Tails continues to attack Sonic in the prison. Sonic tries to get Tails to stop, but is clearly angered by the attack from his friend, and only becomes further agitated when Mogul mocks him with the comment that his only two choices from here are to either be the guy who got beaten up by a kid, or to be the guy who beat up a kid. And so, Sonic and Tails rush at each other, ready for a fight… but why, exactly? If you're starting to think all this seems a little contrived, you wouldn't be the only one. However, I do have a defense of all this. Remember, Tails is still a little kid - a highly intelligent and accomplished one, but a little kid nonetheless - who only just got his parents back. He's so enamored with the idea of having his very own parents now that he's much more susceptible to being roped into whatever plans they may have, even illegal ones (though it is worth noting that illegal obviously doesn't mean immoral here, as again, I agree that the monarchy needs to go). At the same time, he and Sonic have had some tension between them lately, and when Sonic shows up seeming to want to keep Tails' father in jail, and not only that but then speaks flippantly of Tails' own ability to decide right and wrong for himself, I think it's not too surprising that he'd end up doing something like this. There is one more component to this conflict, but it's covered next issue, so that's when we'll tackle it.

Before this issue ends, however, we have one more thing to look at - namely, several diagrams and maps of various buildings in New Mobotropolis, as well as a map of the city itself! There are no dimensions or statistics given, so none of the fun we've had in the previous cases of looking at maps, but it's still interesting to see a layout of where the heroes live now. The comic covers Freedom HQ first, both the outside and the inside, going over its two entrances (the front entrance and the Great Oak Slide) and a few other technical notes. It's still located on the edge of the ruins of Knothole and still suffering from the damage of the attack, but apparently still slated to be in use as a home-away-from-home for the Freedom Fighters as well as continuing to serve its role as a decoy target away from the main city. Next we have the library, which is stated to be full of information that Nicole was able to preserve. It seems that it holds the books that were able to be saved from Robotropolis before its destruction, as well as the ones that weren't in the form of raw data that was reconstructed by Nicole. Then there's the civic center for social gatherings and the marketplace, and then we get to Castle Acorn. Interestingly, I can only assume from the information we're given about it here that this was meant to be included in the next issue, since some of the info contains some pretty obvious spoilers, talking about including space for the "Acorn Council" after "the revolution." Wow, I wonder how this arc is going to end! Finally, we're given a layout of the entire city, which I'll show here.

This is truly a lovely city everyone has ended up in! The layout makes a lot of sense too, with the center being the castle and seat of the government, surrounding it the commercial areas and other public buildings, and around the outskirts, a residential district, bordered by a "Faux Forest" which is presumably made out of nanites. And of course, now that the city is protected by a forcefield, surprise attacks from Eggman are no longer nearly the dire concern they once were in Knothole. Knothole was certainly a nice village, and it's a little sad to see it gone after so long, but New Mobotropolis is absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful new setting for plots to come! That is, if the government even survives… DUN DUN DUUUUNNNN! I WONDER WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

So i was thinking about the conditions yuuta need to copy others cursed technique. He doesn't need to kill the sorcerer since Inumaki is still alive and he can't just copy whatever cursed technique he encounter, he hasn't use the naked sky lady and i-had-no-desert-in-my-life guy cursed technique (yet)

So what if the condition is to french kiss the sorcerer?

“Are you still sulking even now…?”

Liliana heard a sigh from above. Then the cold hand belonging to that man wrapped around her middle. He pulled her up.

“I thought after all the time you spent with Yang you would understand how things are…What you have to do to survive…Hnn.”

There it was. That cold sneer sent shivers down Liliana’s spine. He made even Yang sound like a compassionate man.

“Even that brat has some sort of self-preservation instincts… You don’t make it to the top without playing your cards right…But you-“

Yuan let go of her.

“You’re not putting in enough effort.”

The Liu Huang Hui leader turned his back to her and got off the bed.

Liliana couldn’t help herself but gulp in silence as watched the older man pick up his neatly folded clothes from the side of the bed. He was strange like that. Meticulous, pristine… Liliana didn’t know how else to describe him and his obsession with details and neatness.

“Come here.” His voice didn’t betray any emotion. “Help me dress.”

She knew that it was meant to make her uncomfortable. Show her the position of her life. But Liliana felt apathy as she approached the older man. She had done much worse degrading tasks when she was Yang’s woman. Helping Yuan dress wasn’t bad at all.

She didn’t let her eyes linger too much on his bare body. He was much older than her, yet he was pleasing to the eye. Just like his fellow countrymen, Yuan didn’t show his true age. She supposed he must have been at least into his forties since he had raised Yang at one point.

“I expected more since you had that brat wrapped around your fingers…”

Liliana wanted to protest, to clear herself, to- but she had no time for that.

Yuan placed a finger on her lips to silence her and smiled with pity.

“ But since I am so gracious, I'll be frank with you. You are not the only women I own. And you are neither the prettiest nor the smartest of my toys. So…for your well-being, you better learn to stand out in your own way. If you care about what happens to you, that is.”

She knew it was just another game of intimidation. How many times had she been subjected to such attacks while living under the Lao Shu? Yet it didn’t make the threat any less dangerous. Liliana panicked inside and it took some time for her heart to calm. Surely, she couldn't lose her hope for survival. If she had managed to make it so far by tip-toeing around Yang’s whims, Liliana could hopefully manage to do the same with Yuan.

So she steadied her fingers as she knotted the last buttons of his long shirt. Her hands hesitated to move from his shoulders, not knowing what position to take before him.

“I am aware of my status, Yuan.” Liliana whispered as she leaned her head to the side and stole a glance of his enigmatic eyes. “ I don’t know for how long you plan to stay here in Burlone, but I can try my best to show you the culture around. Italia has amazing sights to offer. Entertainment as well.”

“Hmm…Is that so? I’ve seen enough in my life, so don't get your hopes too high. But... I’ll allow it. When an Italian woman makes such a bold proposition, I can only humbly observe.”

When Yuan chuckled, Liliana knew she had won the first small battle. The young woman sighed internally and made up her mind.

She could work with that.

Birthday, some Notes and Trivia!

As of today, Watchdog of the Queen is three years old. Three. Years. I have never written a fanfic for such a long time without dropping it before. The longest I’ve lasted before was a year and a half. Seriously, what am I still doing here?

I cannot believe that I’m still here - and that you are still here as well!

I’m an incredibly anxious person, and when I uploaded the first chapter three years ago, I was absolutely certain that nobody would read something with one and a half (?) canon characters in it (and another historical public domain character; excluding Vincent, Francis, and Tanaka who only appear in side stories). Because I’ve tried that before a few times, and it never worked out.

Now, years later, people are still reading it; I am still writing it. And some of the ones who read/follow this story are even people I am a fan of. Like, how did this even happen?

Thank you for not giving up on this, for still reading this silly fanfiction despite its terrible upload schedule, its incredibly slow progress, and, at best, mediocre writing. Anyway, I guess/hope, the intermission/bridge chapter will be up sometime in the next few days, but, for now, I thought it would be nice to share some random “fun” notes and trivia. If anyone’s even interested...

Story

Watchdog of the Queen is not only a Kuroshitsuji fanfiction. It’s also some sort of recycled version of an original story I’ve created a long time ago. I didn’t even realise it myself until halfway through WotQ’s second arc or so... It’s funny how eerily similar both stories are; mostly when it comes to characters. (To my relief, they are also, in a lot of ways, quite different too.)

The only reason why Chapter 8 is also set in August 1847 is that I wanted Cloudia and Cedric to participate in the Lammas Day (August 1) celebrations. In the end, I didn’t go through it, i.a., because I thought that the chapter was already long enough (hah).

In the flashback in Chapter 19, Barrington mentions Cloudia’s first Watchdog task: catching John Francis (one of the persons who tried to assassinate Queen Victoria). Originally, the second arc should go on for two more chapters after Cloudia’s decoration, and these chapters were supposed to be about this exact case/task. However, Chapter 14 wrapped up surprisingly nicely and the second arc was quite a mess, so I scrapped those planned two chapters. They would have also featured Wilbur Hopkin’s first appearance in the story. Let’s see when/if he will appear now…

(Chapter 20) Instead of Cloudia withdrawing, I originally wanted Oscar to burst into the room and destroy their little moment or whatever it was. But I thought that would be a bit too mean?

The Zucchini Bonus chapter originally consisted of three parts. Then, stuff happened and I was only able to finish the first part. The other two will follow eventually.

Also, I hope the Zucchini Bonus reads like something wrote by someone who was too long in the sun. Because that’s exactly how it was.

The Halloween comic bonus was supposed to be called “The Halloween Bonus, Not Scary at All,” but I ran out of space and arm capacity, so I had to cut it short.

The original title card for it was in colour, but it looked dreadful, so I redid it. (I think, then, the bonus was named “A Not Very Scary Halloween” or sth like that?)

There were supposed to be many more “The Lady, Childhood” segments, but they kind of sucked, so I scrapped them. Why did I even upload the first few.

Before I killed the Untold Stories, the list of stories for it was ridiculously long. They ranged from more substantial ones like Newman’s and Lisa’s backstories, how Cloudia met Kamden, and how she met Milton to silly ones like babysitting stories. Some things will be included/mentioned in the main story instead.

Before I rearranged the story, there was, i.a., a Derby Arc, and a full arc set around Christmas. Now, I’m only going to spam you with Christmas bonuses. (But not this year. ): )

So far, I’ve done only one “Fun with Holidays” bonus. Originally, a third party was supposed to come to Cloudia and Cedric, making the duo a trio; said third party would then try to “cheer up” their colleagues and friends by making them celebrate/participate in all sorts of odd holidays. Well, said character was supposed to be introduced in the scrapped Derby Arc; then, I couldn’t find a better arc for them to be introduced, so they were pushed away, and this whole insane/silly idea scrapped. (But there will be some more Fun with Holidays bonuses, and said character was not entirely cut and will briefly wave through the story in the definitely not foreseeable future.)

I absolutely hate Chapter 9, i.a., because I was still dead from Chapter 8 when I wrote it and decided to put Cloudia in a white dress and all because Sieglinde wore one in Chapter 108. (I totally forgot that she only wore one because she was a debutante and not because it’s a general custom when meeting the Queen or so, and whyy...)

Oh, and I once entered this goddamn chapter in a fanfiction writing contest for fun (you could only send in fanfics which had been uploaded in a specific time frame, and Chapter 9 was the only thing I wrote that fulfilled this criterion). Obviously, I didn’t win, but I got it (properly) beta-read! Of all chapters, it’s this one that got a beta-read. Why. Anyway, she pointed out a bunch of awful mistakes to me like the “pompadour” one. In German, you can call these little bag things Pompadour or Retikül. The “English” versions of these words, however, refer to two different things: a reticule is the little bag thing, a pompadour is a hairstyle. -.-

The second chapter in my list of “Chapters I hate” is the eleventh one.

Before the third Three Times Christmas chapter became “Cakes and Comfort” it was “Graves and Grief” and about Undertaker visiting Cloudia’s grave.

Names

If a character wasn’t given a name a) I thought sounded nice, b) a meaningful name, they, no matter how important or unimportant to the overall story, are often named after (or even based on) other fictional characters or, less often, after famous people. This got so out of hand that I think it would be easier and faster to list the characters who weren’t named after other characters/people.

Couples are often named after other fictional couples. (For example, Penelope and Simon Phantomhive were named after Penelope Lumley and Simon Harley-Dickinson from The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place by Maryrose Wood.)

Okay, now after having established this, I hope it’s crystal clear after whom Oscar was named.

When it comes to titles, I am often clueless about how I should “expand” them/what to add after the “of.” I usually just use a random name generator because of that. That’s, i.a., how the Viscount(ess) of Middalanoware got their name. (It’s such a weird word, who came up with it??)

Newman’s original first name was Albert because, for a moment, I honestly forgot about Prince Albert -.- And then, I forgot Prince Alfred, but who cares anyway

When writing Chapter 8, I also totally forgot that Margaret Thatcher was a thing. Cue a last-minute rename.

Characters

Some characters’ stories are (loosely) based on one or more fairy tales. Originally, there were more such characters, but they were either completely cut or their (back-)stories won’t be addressed anymore to make this evident. (I’m telling you “who’s who” after the fourth arc!)

One of the cut “fairy tale” characters was the Goose Girl that was supposed to come with Falada...

Oscar’s servants (Scott, Ishmael, and Daisy) were based around the proverbial principle “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.” (You may have heard of the three monkeys of wisdom which embody this principle.)

Kamden’s existence is (somewhat) based on one of the passages from Lisa and Lottie (Das doppelte Lottchen - “Double Lottie”) by Erich Kästner. (I was 8/9 years old when I read this novel so I wouldn’t swear on anything that my recollection of this passage is 100% accurate.) Anyway, the passage I’m referring to is when the girls arrive in their summer camp, and the camp staff is baffled how similar they look even though, to their knowledge and to the girls’, they are not related. One of the staff members then suggests that they may be astrological twins – born on the same day, at the same time, and looking the same even if they are not related. I actually wanted to address this in-story, but I couldn’t find proper (additional) sources about astrological twins to back up anything, so I dropped it. (But, then again, there’s this whole thing about doppelgangers and Identical Strangers...)

At some point, Oscar was supposed to miss fingers, be 70 (!) years old, and a former Police Commissioner of Scotland Yard.

Also, at some point, Lisa was a pianist??? I think I’ve pretty much dropped this right after deciding on it.

Funnily enough, none of Cloudia’s original Aristocrats of Evil were born into noble families/are (really) aristocrats by blood.

In one of the scrapped “The Lady, Childhood” segments, Dr Alan (who was only ever mentioned) was supposed to be introduced. Well, as the segment was scrapped, I never got around to properly explain who he is. In short, Dr Alan’s doctor’s office is right next to the Sainteclare Bookstore. When Kamden’s adoptive parents (with whom he was friends) got ill, he treated them, but they still died. Dr Alan feels quite guilty about it and looked after Kamden ever since. (He made sure that he could keep the bookstore before Cloudia found Kamden and Barrington became his guardian. Of course, Dr Alan still looks after Kamden; Kamden basically has two dads.) Dr Alan will eventually appear, but it’s not like he’s very important anyway.

The same thing happened to Blodwen: She’s Kamden’s grandmother who lives in Wales.

Oscar actually likes Cloudia for three reasons: 1) He genuinely enjoys her company. 2) He needs her for something. The third one is a secret^^ (It’s also a reason why Oscar dislikes Cedric.)

Misc.

Cedric is Cloudia’s fourth Aristocrat of Evil because Four = Death.

The concept of the skull pendant necklace comes from one of the first FFs I’ve ever read. In it, however, it was a skeleton hand pendant necklace and it could only be used to call someone (without talking to them). Unfortunately, the FF was taken down years ago…

The skull necklace and some other objects/artefacts that have already appeared or will appear were based on things from fairy tales, from myths, or some other concepts. (They will come up later!)

The basis for Cloudia’s office in the illustrated Halloween Bonus was OC’s office in the Funtom Music Hall. (It’s, of course, a watered-down version.)

I don’t know if anyone paid attention to the tiny rabbit drawings in the illustrated Halloween Bonus and the Cake mini-comic, but I hope someone did.

(The Business Partners, Jolly) I tried my best to find it out, but I still don’t know if the altar stone thing in St Margaret’s Chapel is movable or not. :( (Are, in general, altars even movable? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

(The Siblings, Partners) Something else I couldn’t find was how deep Brent Reservoir’s deepest area really is. I think I only found the average depth of the reservoir and then, based on it, picked a random number/estimate for its deepest point.

The story about the four brothers who drowned in Brent Reservoir is actually a true story.

The thing those guys tried to steal in The Siblings, Partners already (sort of) appeared.

So far, four characters have been introduced by a name which is not their real one: For two, it’s fairly obvious. For the other two, it’s not that obvious. There is another character whose name is not quite spelled all the time how it should actually be spelled according to their birth certificate.

When I was 12 and picked up writing in earnest, I decided that I wanted to have something recurring in all my works. After thinking of it for a while, I eventually settled on this: the “fruit tea and penguin scale.” (it’s not strictly a scale, though.) It functions like this: the “heroes/heroic and, or mostly sane people, and so on” dislike fruit tea and like penguins, the “wannabe villains, idiots, annoying people, and so on” like fruit tea and dislike penguins. There are also a lot of “in-between” things: Cloudia and Cecelia dislike fruit tea and like penguins. Barrington and Cedric like both fruit tea and penguins. Oscar tolerates penguins and will ignore you if you ask him whether or not he thinks fruit tea is actually tea or whether or not he likes it.

My Lenore was written in case I am unable to complete Watchdog of the Queen. (I really wish I had written it better.)

I’m still waiting for someone to point out the Blatant Typo.
