Who could forget the direct nod to Goncharov in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, a movie steeped in the retelling of that story.

I don't think The Undiscovered Country was supposed to make me cry as much as it did.

This slapping of the phaser out of Valeris’ hands in The Undiscovered Country very much reminds me of the bitch slap that Amanda did in Journey to Babel
Tumblr media
Like you put “logic” above the well-being of their partner? Amanda will bitch slap you, and Spock is so close to bitch slapping you and you know it
I also think it’s kind of telling that when Spock shows genuine anger with the slapping of the phaser, Jim is in the foreground of the shot. We know Amanda’s reason for being angry in the episode, and they visually show Spock’s reason for being angry - Jim could’ve been killed because of Valeris’ actions

"I offer a toast. The undiscovered country...the future..."
David Warner passed away a few weeks ago--such an amazing and unforgettable actor, with so many iconic roles, but my favorites were his voice work as Ra's al Ghul in Batman: The Animated Series, and his performance as Chancellor Gorkon in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Last year I drew a tribute to Christopher Plummer as General Chang, so it felt fitting to create a companion piece. RIP.

AT LAST! In Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991), George Takei as Sulu gets his first command, the U.S.S. Excelsior. The actual promotion scene was filmed for Star Trek II, but cut from the final film.
