Hey everybody! Today is the 20th of April which means it’s the day to spread positivity and validation to everyone in the LGBTQ+ community!

We just want to say that you, the person reading this, is an amazing human being and we are so proud of you. You have gone through so much throughout your life and you are still going strong! It is so admirable and inspiring!

Some of your struggles and worries may not have an end in sight. But trust me, they do. You will continue to push through all these challenges coming your way and do so in spectacular fashion. You know why? Because you are so strong and have the determination and resilience to do it! And whenever you do need help, just know that the Pride Knights will be with you every step of the way!

This community is so special. It is inclusive of everyone and we are welcome in with open arms. However, some of you may not experience the same. But to you, we need to say: Don’t let anyone tell you that you are not valid or that you don’t belong here. This community is for all who don’t fit into the normalized heterosexual world we currently live in. And when we say all, we mean it.

I just want to remind you to #StayProud of who you are. You are a beautiful strong soul and the world needs more souls like you.

I made this because today is the day to #StayProud! For those who don’t recognize the flags, from left to right, there is: lesbian, nonbinary, aromantic, pansexual and bisexual. Notice how I made Bi and Pan hold hands, because we are not enemies, despite being pitted against each other.

Inspired by @prideknights #StayProud day! I don’t post art here anymore, but I can’t post this on any other platforms that I use professionally (family/friends who I’m not out to yet etc etc might see) so I at least want Pride Knights to see how much their movement means to me <3 Thank you for everything you do! This is my OC from a few platforms as well as my ren faire persona, a nonbinary lesbian/ace knight who uses she/her and they/them <3 I’ve been playing them for a few years now and seeing the Pride Knights movement really made me feel seen. I’m bi IRL and am on the fence on pronouns, and think I might be genderfluid?? Who knows, still working it out! #StayProud!!!!

I wanted to share something I made for an art class last semester for @prideknights stay proud day, since it was heavily inspired by their blog and comics.

So to anyone else out there having to stay in the closet during quarantine, we'll do it together.

This book is first and foremost about personas and expectations. Who you want to be vs who you’re expected to be; how you want people to see you vs how you see yourself. While many of the symbols of cowardice did not make it into the final piece, the inability to adhere to one true self still reflects that. 

The first figure is intentionally more closed off and physically smaller than the second, allowing you to see the cape through the cutout as the figures stand back to back. This figure represents a more traditional and heteronormative view, as I have portrayed myself wearing my prom dress. The prom is a huge part of American high school culture, a culture that often ostracizes gay students, and was personally a horrible experience due to my still then closeted status. 

The second figure is another portrayal of myself, that unlike the first has no grounding in reality, but is rather a more idealized persona. The cape is colored like the lesbian pride flag, and the armor reflects my childhood dream of being the knight in shining armor as opposed to the damsel in distress that is often pushed on young girls. 

While it would be easy to point at the second figure and claim that as my true self, I often find I’m expected to be strong and confident and in charge, yet the vulnerability of the first figure is still inescapable, even if it isn’t visible from the front of the second figure.

It's april 20th. Do you know what that means?

It means that you have gotten this far in this world and survived. It means that you, despite everything that has been thrown at you, have kept on going. And we are all very proud of you. You should be very proud of yourself.

You might be exhausted, you might be feeling worthless or unwanted but trust me if anyone at all : the world is better with you in it. Take care of yourself in those dire times, take care of your loved ones and be brave, but most of all : Stay proud!
