Believe it or not, today is Onyx’s character birthday! This is the date they came to me as an idea and started the whole process. Never thought I would have a comic about it a year later.

It may be Onyx’s birthday but I would like to celebrate all of you reading right now! Thank you so so much, and know I appreciate you. Behind the scenes stuff below the cut!

For those curious, this was the original concept sketch. The idea was VERY different back then and you can see how much Onyx has changed since then. The original idea was that instead of shattering Jasper, Steven demanded to fuse when he became upset during the fight, and took it out on her midfusion. Onyx was more of a vengeance than it was an understanding. Since Jasper never got shattered, both of their horns were intact. As fun and anime as the first idea was, I like how Onyx is now! I hope you do, too.

Back on my bullshit but HEAR ME OUT!!!

I was really unsatisfied with the route they took to represent White diamond, the first time we’re introduced to her is great and actually conveys her as if she possesses a god-like status. Then all of that just gets taken away, they made subtle changes to her design and it killed her etherealness completely, then they tried making her one of those guilt-trip moms in SU future. I mean fair enough, but god there was so much un-tapped potential, especially with the cosmic horror aspect.

Don’t get me wrong I understand the og had to end earlier than expected so things were rushed, and I feel that it’s still semi-effective, but, when they announced that the show would get revived for a short while, I was expecting so much more. So here, I’m basically quenching my thirst for an actually unsettling character.

Also because I think bugs are cool so whatever I guess, forgive me for the minor rant.

fucking around with my Steven Universe AU Gems and this pearl had me in a grip with her design possibilities - I seriously fucked her up her previous design & it haunted me, and with her diamond getting fully redesigned 2 times it didn't really help in keeping the right vibe. being the oldest surviving pearl among the diamonds, she has seen an era of repression and sorrow among the diamonds - caught in the crossfire of her diamond's tears. With the forced responsibility of Indigo's court during her depressive episodes, and the countless replacements of Red's pearl, she was left tainted with despair. To forget the endless days of anxiety and boredom, she took up her time with Indigo's reserve of her rare clouds of joy - her worries and imperfections washed away in euphoria. Very little of Indigo's tasks are accomplished by her anymore, most of it gets transferred to the other courts.

Charlie and Milo in a steven universe AU! I wanted to do something with them since to me earth genasi are just like...made of different types of rocks or earth forms.  I think Milo might be some kinda anomaly, cracked gem that was created by other gems. Since he's a marble and thats more rock than gem, I don't want to make him on the same level as all the others. Charlie (in DnD he's diamond and obviously that wont work. charcoal too, its not really....a gem) I chose to go with jet since its a fairly dark coloured stone. Together they form tree agate!

I'm bored rn so I'm posting some old stuff I did earlier in the year for my Beautiful Blue SU au, this is an early concept I did to kind of kickstart the idea for what would replace the Bubble Buddies episode in season 1, when I made this I had no name for either my gemsona (this au's Steven replacement) or, in this case, the early Joshua concept, so I just kind of went with the first name in my mind. This is Joshua's earliest design as well

I loved messing with the boxes for this comic since it was the first comic I had done in like- a year or so, I got really burnt out on an old project I had to give up on, but this was a nice place to start again, it was so much fun shading and using foreshortening in this comic, even though it didn't have to look so serious.

My sister's concept sketches for my Steven Universe Lord of The Rings AU

There are two Connies, because Connie at the beginning when she first leaves the Shire-equivalent is quite a different Connie than the knight of Rohan she is by the end.

Pearl's look is inspired primarily by elves, while Amethyst's is more dwarf-inspired (there's actually no elves or dwarves in this AU, just humans and Gems, but I'm drawing inspiration from them). Amethyst also has her hair in a ponytail, because I love ponytail! Amethyst.

Sapphire is a wizard (and has two eyes in this AU, but only one good eye), and Ruby is her knight. Garnet is both a wizard and knight.

Lapis Lazuli's look is a little pirate-inspired (she was a sea merchant before joining the fellowship of the gems), and the hood is primarily for the vibes.

Rose was of course, a great lady and a great warrior, but I don't think her role or design has changed so much that it needs explanation.

There's no Steven, Greg or Peridot art yet, but they both have significant roles in this AU, too.
