In 2019 a satirical event was organized via FaceBook. The objective was to infiltrate the titular top security American facility, Area 51. The event would involve a flash mob of people running into the facility under the logic that not all of them could be stopped if there were enough of them. The sentence "they can't stop all of us" became popular in relation to this event; as well as the Naruto run meme, regarding how the facility should be infiltrated according to some. The ultimate goal was to find alien life within Area 51 and prove the long-standing conspiracy theory that alien life is housed in there.
Approximately two million people marked the event as being interested in it or intending to attend, leading to mass media coverage taking the Area 51 raid seriously. This notoriety and the gravity with which the shitpost was taken elevated it to a famous meme. In the end, only 150 people attended the meetup and none entered Area 51. Two music festivals were held on the date in Nevada, though, with a much larger attendance.
This prompt is open to being taken as seriously as news outlets did, or as comedically as the shitpost was intended to be. The death in this prompt happens in relation to the Area 51 raid. Everything else is up to the author.
So I went to a community theater’s 10 minute play festival last night, which is notorious in some circles for having some ridiculous plots for the plays (they are typically written by locals) and occasionally having a “big issue” play. The third play was called “Illegal” and the short description said that it was about a girl seeking an abortion so I’m expecting this to be the “big issue” of the year. It’s set 20 years in the future and is about a teenaged? young girl, a nurse, and a social worker determining if the girl can qualify for an abortion given all of the legislation that has been passed restricting her choices. For context this festival taking place in a small city in the deep South so I was already concerned about how this play was going to be received. And as the it goes on I can see people in the audience shifting uncomfortably and I’m looking around for the nearest exit in case things get worse.
But then two-thirds through the girl reveals that the father is an alien - like from space. Suddenly everyone is laughing uncomfortably as this has changed from a drama to a comedy satire? And all I can think while watching the last third is - what Storm Area 51 AO3 online community did the middle aged white male author stumble upon to come up with the idea to write this play?
i don't know what level of doxxing yourself is appropriate here and i am so tempted to talk about robotics here but if anyone comes up to me in Houston and says "every good scientist makes hypotenuses" with no context, i will gladly chat with you. no questions asked. just don't say that you saw me irl. i don't think anyone will, but i think people on this weird little website are cool and i love meeting other presidential shoelace thieves.
If Nikolai doesn't say "My mother was an oyster and I'm the pearl." in s2 while Alina rolls her eyes in the background, I'll storm in the Netflix studios and hold everyone at gunpoint until they film it. Who's with me?
