Storseisundet Bridge, Norway
Tumblr media
Norway's picturesque Atlantic Ocean Road crosses eight bridges as it makes its way across islands, islets and reefs to link the island of Averøya with the mainland Romsdal peninsula. The longest of them, pictured here, is the Storseisundet Bridge. This bridge, surrounded by ample natural beauty, is also an architectural marvel. While being constructed, the bridge and the workers constructing it endured the region's unpredictable weather, including 12 hurricanes. Still, the result of all that hard work is this marvellous work that enthralls visitors to this day. With a dramatic curve and a sudden incline, Storseisundet Bridge creates an illusion of suddenly disappearing into the ocean, surprising drivers and making them skip a heartbeat. Its construction showcases the brilliance of Norwegian engineering, blending seamlessly with the surrounding natural beauty.

The Atlantic Ocean Road or the Atlantic Road (Norwegian: Atlanterhavsvegen / Atlanterhavsveien) is an 8.3-kilometer (5.2 mi) long section of County Road 64 that runs through an archipelago in Hustadvika and Averøy municipalities in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It passes by Hustadvika, an unsheltered part of the Norwegian Sea, connecting the island of Averøy with the mainland and Romsdalshalvøya peninsula. It runs between the villages of Kårvåg in Averøy and Vevang in Hustadvika. It is built on several small islands and skerries, which are connected by several causeways, viaducts and eight bridges—the most prominent being Storseisundet Bridge. [Read more at Wikipedia]

Day 4, June 6th, Alesund Loop, 420 km
The ship docked in the port of Alesund and the drive took in the amazing and unlikely Atlantic Ocean Road. It cost just over £9 million when it was built in the late 80′s, which seems very reasonable. It’s built on several small islands and skerries which are connected by a few causeways and eight bridges, the most impressive being Storseisundet Bridge seen in one of the images below
