The Gardens (8x10)
I love to imagine Bo and Din going on walks in the gardens of Sundari, with fireflies around them. Maybe one day they’ll be peaceful and happy.

I’ve almost no understanding of linguistics. But this post and also @thefoundationproject ‘s fics, which include bits about how the Journeyman Protector dialect might be related to Standard Mando’a, have me trying to hypothesize Mandalorian language trees. based on what we know about Mandalorian history.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I KNOW some of you are language nerds and I also did this in fifteen minutes please yell at me about your own headcanons and also about everything I got wrong/missed/forgot. It would be cool to turn it into a real graph to reference eventually (:

During The Clone Wars, when Obi-wan Kenobi needed a few days of R&R, you couldn’t find him on Coruscant if you tried.
There are reports of Obi-wan sightings on Mandalore in Sundari. Some say he’s spotted strolling through the night market hand-in-hand with the Duchess of Mandalore herself. Some have said they saw them sharing a bowl of stir-fried noodles. But they can’t be sure. There are lots of bearded gingers in the galaxy, right??? Right?????? But y’know… he looks an awful lot like her… nephew. And they were dancing awfully close… but nah… it’s not Jedi Master Obi-wan Kenobi.
No one gives credence to the rumors that he doesn’t sleep in one of the guest suites in the palace, and that he’s sharing Satine’s bed.
Or that he brings her breakfast in bed.
At noon.

Shaktism (doctrine of energy, power, the eternal goddess), is one of several major Hindu denominations, wherein the metaphysical reality is considered metaphorically a woman and Maha Devi Shakti is regarded as the supreme godhead. It includes many goddesses, all considered aspects of the same supreme goddess. Shaktism has different sub-traditions, ranging from those focused on most worshipped Durga, gracious Parvati to that of fierce Kali. According to a 2010 estimate by Johnson and Grim, Shaktism is the third largest Hindu sect, constituting about 30 million or 3.2% of Hindus.

Some Forms of Maha Devi Shakti
Tumblr media
Durga - Sits upon a tiger during Navaratri
Tumblr media
Parvati - She is kind and tender and represents motherhood
Tumblr media
Kali - Goddess of Time, Change, Creation, Power, Destruction and Death
Many Hindus worship Shakti as the divine mother who calls for absolute surrender. Yogis regard Shakti as the power, lying dormant within the body as a coiled serpent (kundalini), that must be aroused and realized to reach spiritual liberation. Shaktism is an essential part of Hindu Tantra, a system of practices involving the worship of the goddess and designed to empower and release both mind and body.
In popular worship, the goddess Shakti is known by many names; Hindus regard all female deities as her different manifestations and may refer to her simply as Devi (Goddess).

More thoughts about Satine’s pacifism…
Tumblr media
So I read this post the other day that suggested Satine’s period of rule was just a blip in Mandalore’s history, that she only maintained power because she’d won it in battle, and that Mandalorians were glad to return to their traditionalist ways and… it just really irked me.
Because that’s not true at all??
When we meet Satine in TCW, it’s super clear that she was very popular, and a good ruler. In only 15-20 years, she’s restored Sundari to prosperity, and is a city that appears very wealthy with a satisfied population. She herself is very invested in her people, helps directly with social and political matters. She’s managed to rebuild worlds and cities devastated by war and environmental issues.
There’s never any kind of explanation exactly as to her style of rule. Certainly she’s not a constitutional monarch but there is a prime minister and council, and regional governors, so she’s no autocrat. This suggests democracy, and her people thus voting for continued pacifist policies/leaders.
(We also only see issues/events occur that in any society would involve leaders, regardless of how much a role they play in politics)
I mean sure, it’s the capital city and we don’t really see anywhere else. And there’s also corruption, hunger, terrorism, etc.- but a lot of the latter issues are because of outside forces (galactic war and the sith) that she does remarkably well, in my opinion, to combat for several years.
So already that’s a lot of evidence to suggest pacifism/modernism was widely popular amongst Mandalorians and not just a blip.
(Also, she may have come to power through battle, but this suggests there was an incredibly strong military and public force behind her ascendancy to the throne in order to win a civil war that had been waging essentially for decades- therefore illustrating mandalorians wanted pacifism, and she didn’t just usurp her position)
Then to the suggestion they were glad to return to their military ways…
People often use the state of Mandalore in Rebels/The Mandalorian to argue that the warrior culture was a more natural and preferred one among Mandalorians.
But this isn’t what we see at all.
We return to Mandalore in Rebels like 17/18 years after we last saw it in TCW. In this time, an extremist clan and the empire have been ruling the system.
We’ve seen the scale and ability of the empire’s propaganda missions already- erasing or changing history, destroying entire races- particularly with the jedi.
Alongside a ruler encouraging/forcing his people to re-embrace their martial past, of course it’s going to appear as if Mandalorian society has returned to its ‘original’ state of violence and warfare.
And yet, even though it’s gone back to clan warfare and endless, unnecessary fighting, that’s not what the people want at all.
Even though the Mandalorians we meet in Rebels are characterised as especially traditional (clan wren allied with death watch; fenn rau fought alongside the republic and later the empire, going against satine’s political status) they are never actually fighting for a return to their martial past.
Instead, the whole storyline is about uniting Mandalorians, pushing out the oppressive empire, ending the civil wars, etc.
Sure, they want to retain more of their martial culture than Satine did, but perhaps here is where we can argue that Sundari was a bit of an exception by being so especially modernist, whereas other planets and communities still retained many elements of their warrior culture- such as wearing the armour- even if not engaging in warfare.
Again, there is a similar storyline in The Mandalorian season 3- despite the fact that this is about the most extreme group of Mandalorians. It’s still about uniting together, rebuilding their world, ending war and violence among each other, protecting each other.
Therefore, I think it’s clear that actually, even if not to quite the same degree (but then, it’s likely this would come later once the last 2 decades of military propaganda had been overcome) Mandalorians didn’t want to retain their military past, but wanted to move in a more pacifist direction.
The only thing I have some issue arguing against is what we see in TCW when Satine is overthrown, where the masses really quickly switch to supporting death watch/Vizsla.
I’ve talked here about why this may be the case but even many of my arguments on that post don’t properly explain why a city that in previous seasons we saw offering mass support for satine and prospering under pacifism, suddenly turned so against her.
Really, I put this down to TCW being, in the end, a show aimed at younger audiences, and needing to get the point across clearly and dramatically that death watch and maul had manipulated people, and that’s why it seems so out of place.
(Does anyone have more to say on this than me? I’d find other’s perspective on this, whatever that perspective is, really interesting)
Either way, it’s made continually clear that Satine’s rule was far from a blip in Mandalorian history, or that Mandalorians only ever barely tolerated her.
Their martial society was a thing of the past. People were sick of it. Satine won the clan wars for a reason, and was a very effective ruler for many years until events outside her control (that frankly would have negatively impacted even the most golden ruler) meant she fell from power.
Had there not been the clone war or the sith, she would undoubtedly have continued to rule, and mandalore continued to stay pacifist.
Tumblr media
(I also think it’s a shame we never saw more of mandalorian society during Satine’s rule. We only focus on her and other political rulers at that time, and when we later return to mandalore it’s all from the perspective of either extremists like din djarin and his sect, or again more political leaders/rulers that have an especially militaristic past.)

Redemption (Bo Katan x Fem!Reader)
Summary: You go to the mines of Mandalore to redeem yourself of your transgressions, to help you on the path of the creed. Bo comes to your rescue. Requested by Anon who I hope likes it. I did a little extra for you.
The mines of Mandalore.
The stories you had read said that one could be redeemed in the living waters, and that it would make you worthy of the creed. You weren't sure exactly if it was true, but you weren't here for yourself. You were here because you wanted to redeem yourself, to be worthy of taking the creed. You wanted to show your girlfriend, Bo-Katan of House Kryze, that you were worthy of her.
Coming here alone? That might not have been your brightest idea.
You had a managed to avoid too many encounters, and fought your way through the ruins of Sundari until you found the road that led you to the mines. It was cold, dark and damp. But you were glad you leave the ghosts of Sundari behind, the bodies of a city ruined, a home forgotten.
You let out a slow breath, and eyed the waters. You hoped that the droid had managed to keep your secret at least, and you could come back to Bo proud.
On Kelevala though, unbeknown to you, Bo-Katan was losing her mind. She had sought you out to see if you wanted to have a night to yourselves, and had found you missing. You hadn't said anything about leaving, and you usually wouldn't go anywhere without at least letting her know. She looked all over the palace and had no idea where you were.
When she sought out her iron heart or Ka'rta droid, the one the managed your affairs, she was met with indifference.
"Tell me where she is!" Bo demanded angrily.
"I am afraid that Lady y/n is gone."
"Where! Tell me or I'll melt you down and use you as repair parts for my ship!" Bo yelled at them. The Ka'rta paused, as if it was going through a million reasons why they shouldn't tell her. But the Iron heart did not want to become spare parts.
"Lady y/n has gone to Mandalore.' The droid answers, not wanting to lie any further. Bo lets go of them and growls,
"What do you mean she's gone to Mandalore?" Bo shouts at her droid.
"She left a few hours ago Princess. She asked me not to tell you and that she would come back as a daughter of Mandalore. She wanted to do this for you."
Bo feels a flash of anger go through her, "I'm going after y/n." She puts on her helmet and marches to her ship. "Stay here and guard the castle." Bo straps herself in and takes off, trying to stop herself from shaking. If she didn't get to y/n soon, she wouldn't have the love of her life left, her girlfriend.
She wouldn't be able to tell you how much she loved you, instead of showing you.
Bo gripped the controls tighter and prayed you were okay-
By the time she arrived on Mandalore and found you, you were already at the mines of Mandalore, and she ran towards you as fast as she could, knowing the way better then most, not wanting you to risk your life, to do something so dangerous.
She was terrified.
Bo doesn't have any time to call your name as you walk towards the water, doesn't have time to warn you that the ledge is destroyed before you the dark abyss takes you-
You scream as you sink like a rock; echoing off the mines walls. You mouth fills with water and you try to swim to the surface, but the water is cold and deep; and you keep going down. You try to push against the darkness again, and something grabs you around the middle and starts propelling you up until it stops suddenly, as if frightened by something and then shoots you out of the water.
You, and the mysterious rescuer land on the ground with a heavy thud and you start to choke up water, and curl up; breathing hard. You don't register at first that it's Bo who helps you sit and pulls you against her until your wrapping your arms around her and breathing in her familiar scent.
"You're okay y/n." Bo says, and she rubs circles into your back as you calm down.
"Bo..." You gasp out and cough, before you relax enough to look at her. Your cold; force why is it so cold here?and start to shiver. Bo reaches into a bag nearby and pulls out a robe; her robe, you realise, that she wears when she leaves on missions to colder places and wraps it around you tightly. You meet her gaze and see her give you a hard look.
She's angry.
"What the hell were you thinking coming here by yourself?" Bo says furiously.
"I was trying to atone for my transgressions." You reply, eyes prickling with tears. "So I could become a Mandalorian."
Bo looks startled. "You...what?"
"It's silly, but I wanted to make sure I was the right woman for you." You tremble a bit, thinking about some of the history books Bo had lying around her castle that talked about the creed.
"Don't tell me you believe in that." Bo asks, she rubs your arms with her hands, trying to warm you up.
"I believe in you." You explain. "You deserve someone who isn't weighed down by their past."
Bo pauses. "You're so silly y/n." She shakes her head. "I don't care if your a Mandalorian or not, I just want you to be mine." Bo tilts her head as you reach up and runs your fingers through her hair, damp and tossed.
"Oh." You reply, quietly. You smile at her and she sighs and smiles back.
"Please promise me you won't do anything like that again?" Bo says, and you nod. "A verbal answer y/n."
"Yes Bo. I promise you. I won't come here alone again, or try to become a Mandalorian without you there." You answer, and Bo kisses you; putting her hand on the back of your neck to draw you in further. She leaned her forehead against your when you parted, and you tilted your head, curious. She had a funny look in her eyes, like she couldn't believe what she was looking at.
"What is it?"
"I saw...I don't know what I saw down there." Bo shakes her head. "I think it was the mythosaur."
You laugh. "Okay?" You giggle. "You don't believe in that stuff anyway."
Bo gives you a look and you pause in your teasing,
"What? I wasn't awake Bo." You answer.
"I know it's just...it bothered me." Bo shakes her head, thoughtful. "I don't know what it means.." When she looks at you next she stands up and pulls you with her. You look up at Bo with a small smile.
"Maybe it's a good sign?" You offer, and Bo hesitates, just for a fraction of a second. You see a flicker a worried expression across her face, like she needs to tell you something-
"I love you." Bo tells you and you feel your heart skip. She's never told you that before, her actions yes, but this was new. You opened your mouth and looked stunned for a moment before speaking.
"What?"
"I said I love you-" Bo makes a funny sound, surprised when you kiss her desperately. She grins at you when you part,
"y/n?"
"I love you too Bo." You tell her, and as she draws you in her arms again, the mines seem a little less dark, and a little less lonely.

The latest episode of Mando had me shook
Coming back to Sundari in live action just brought up so many clone wars feels
Especially my obitine feels
I know the show hasn’t mentioned Satine and they probably won’t, but my hope is that Bo-Katan gets her head out of her ass and reclaims the throne, that would bring justice for Satine who was done very dirty in Clone Wars.

I know Bo-Katan seems kinda sad about Mandalore being glassed and is like "It didn't always look like this" but I gotta be honest, it looks better now. This is WAY more interesting of a design than the flat ass desert with a couple of bubble cities look it had prior to being glassed.
The ruins with the underground caverns filled with things that look centuries old, the big glass spikes creating their own cave systems, the creatures that we see living in the caves? None of that's been on Mandalore prior to this and it's WAY more interesting than what we got to see in TCW and Rebels. Like yeah, Sundari's in ruins which is sad I guess, but it was a pretty boring city to begin with anyway. It's cooler as a ruin than it was as a city.

3 Mandos and a Baby AU: Hijacking Death Watch
While Ursa and Alrich are in Sundari preparing their future Mand’alor for rule Bo-Katan is on Concordia desperately trying to set up a power base to take down Pre. Her Nite Owls are easy enough to recruit, most of them sided with her in her last life too. Really her main issues amongst her girls comes from Rook Kast and her insane group of True Believers.
Bo doesn’t really blame Rook for her sheer devotion to the cause, the girl wasn’t exactly a willing volunteer when she first came to Death Watch. Tor Vizsla’s old recruitment plan was basically just kidnapping kids and torturing/brainwashing them into obedient little attack dogs (Bo’s had a lot of regrets in her life, but one of the biggest would have to be willingly joining an organization that did that to kids). Sometimes it backfires really hard, like when Arla Fett full on snapped and killed Tor’s oldest son and preferred heir, Dral Vizsla, in the middle of the training yard.
The loyalty of some holdouts is easier to get than others. The Bralor twins and their brother have nearly deified Bo after she saved their little sibling from a training accident. The screaming match she had with Pre after, where she called him all sorts of names for putting a child in a live fire test, becomes legend amongst the Kyr’tsad. As does the shiner Bo proudly bears around base after Pre calls her to his office for “discipline”.
Bo can’t challenge Pre too much, tipping her hand too soon would get her killed. If not by Pre than by his followers or even, and the thought of this makes her shudder, his Sith backers. Sideous is just frothing at the mouth for an excuse to subjugate Mandalore, Death Watch provides the perfect humanitarian reason. She has to move in secret, for her people’s sake.
Young Lieutenant Patrok Ru-Saxon of the Sundari Protectors receives a mysterious comm message. It contains no words, only an address for somewhere in the lower levels of the dome city. He’s just gotten off a rather exhausting night shift and honestly he just wants to sleep, but the message gives him one of those feelings his buir said would make him a great investigator one day. Patrok follows the message, and there at the specified location is a folder, taped to the wall. He looks inside, blanches, and calls his boss to say he got an anonymous tip and they need to evacuate the Lily Flower Walkway and to get the bomb squad on the way right now.
Patrok may never know this, but his call that day saved the lives of 38 Mando’ade, 17 of whom were children on a school trip. Now every time he gets a message from that unknown comlink he comes running. He arrests dozens of corrupt officials, foils many Death Watch plots, and earns many promotions. Bo-Katan watches from afar and delights in her good judgement.
Pre is fuming. He’s lost so many loyal soldiers these past few years it’s been ridiculous. The Saxon brothers died when their Kom’rk’s stabilizers blew during aerial combat simulations. A faulty circuit led to a cascade failure in the part, and there went two of his best commanders. Ruusaan Jatte tried to change the mixture of her jetpack’s fuel again and wound up paying for the experiment with her life. His own cousin, Malos Vizsla, was caught red handed trying to poison ration packs heading to the Draboon system’s Protectors. Rather than face arrest and interrogation, Malos ended his own life.
Bo is having the time of her life. The Saxon brothers’ habit of never running a preflight check meant they never noticed a stabilizer circuit had been tragically damaged. Ruusaan Jatte’s love of experimenting with different fuel mixes provided the perfect opportunity to test out Amis’s newest explosive discovery (Ursa had told her over a bottle of netra’gal about how Amis had discovered if you add a very common accelerant to jet pack fuel, it’ll blow up. The fact that Ursa’s eyebrows were drawn on was not mentioned, though it felt relevant). And Malos Vizsla was just a happy accident. Those tips to Ru-Saxon were really starting to pay off.
