Jensen hasn’t even been back for more than a week and he’s already having a barbecue at his cabin in the mountains. He rents the place out every summer and invites everyone he knows to stay with him for the weekend. The place is big enough to house two dozen people and Jensen knows a lot of people. It’s been a few months since Jensen has been home since he’s traveling with his new girlfriend. You haven’t met her yet but you have talked to Jensen about her. He seems to be crazy about her so you’re not going to ruin what they have.
Yes, you have a crush on him. Yes, you love him. Yes, you’d do anything to make him happy. Yes, he is your best friend. No, you won’t do anything about it because he seems to be happy. What kind of friend would you be if you took that away from him?
Once you finish getting ready into a summer flowy dress, you grab the food you cooked and pile into your car. The cabin is located in the mountains up north so it takes you an hour to get there. There are already a bunch of people there but you don’t mind being later than everyone else. You pull into the driveway and see Jared’s car indicating that him and his wife are already here.
You let yourself into the house and enter the kitchen to place your food there when you see a young and beautiful woman. She must be Denise, Jensen’s girlfriend. You recognize her from the photos he’s sent you.
“Oh, hi. Denise?”
She looks you up and down as if she’s judging you.
“Yeah. You must be Y/N.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” you smile.
“You have such a cute dress on. Don’t let the drinks ruin it.”
It’s the way she says this that makes ou suspicious. She seems a bit passive-aggressive like she doesn't like you. Instead of giving you a chance, she’s already decided that she doesn’t like you. You’re not going to let her ruin your night because you came here for one thing and one thing only.
“I can handle myself. Where is Jensen?”
Speaking of, your best friend walks inside the kitchen using the back door with containers of food in his hands. He looks at you and a big smile breaks out on his face.
“Y/N! You came!” He sets down the food and scoops you into his arms. You don’t miss the way Denise is glaring at you two. “I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you, too.”
“Baby, you promised you’d show me around,” Denise says and pulls her boyfriend away from you. “Remember? You said you’d do it when you got done outside.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” He turns to you. “I’ll be right back. Jared and Gen are outside.”
“Okay,” you nod.
Denise practically drags him away, leaving you all alone. You shake off this bad feeling you’re getting and join the others outside. Jared is talking to some guys off to the side while Gen is heping prep the table for the food. Joshua, Jensen’s brother, is using the grill to make his famous chicken on the other side of the backyard.
“Y/N!” Jared says a bit too loudly.
“Whoa, are you okay?” you chuckle and hug him.
“Yeah, I’m great.”
Jared has always been a light weight despite how tall he is. He definitely has the weight to keep the effects of alcohol away but he acts like he’s a hundred pounds when he drinks. It only takes a few drinks to really get him going.
“What number of drink is that?”
“Three?”
“You drink any more, you’ll bring out Doug. Do you really want to do that?”
“Probably not,” he chuckles.
You have fond memories of Jared’s alter ego coming out after he’s had too many to drink. The night usually ends in the cops being called but it’s memories you love to think about.
“So, I met Denise.”
Jared starts laughing at the tone of your voice.
“Yeah, everyone has that same reaction when they first meet her.”
“What is her problem?”
“I don’t know. She’s not the best person to be around but no one says anything because it seems like Jensen is happy. They’ve only been dating for a few months but they seem happy together.”
Jensen and Denise come back from the self-tour and you watch as she clings to his side even though he wants to go over to his friends and converse. He has a smile on his face that doesn’t quite reach his ears. He might be happy but it’s not true happiness.
“You don’t know him like I do.”
You leave Jared’s side to join Jensen’s. He has yet to tell you about his trip and now’s the perfect time to do that. It’s been so long since you’ve seen him, you just want to be around him. However, Denise sees you walking over to them and she tugs on Jensen’s arm to grab his attention. She leans in and whispers something in his ear that causes him to chuckle.
“Sure,” he nods.
They both walk off before you can get to them, and Denise looks back at you to gauge your reaction. You pretend like you weren't walking to them and veer to the right where Gen is. She says something to you but you’re not paying attention. You stare at the couple until they disappear around the corner of the house. Jensen didn’t even see you coming toward him.
You push down your feelings and enjoy the company of everyone else until dinner is served. Jensen took the seat next to you before Denise could pull him away so she is forced to take the other side of him. Everyone digs into the delicious food immediately and the conversation somehow gets on the topic of how stupid Jensen has been in his past.
“Once Jared told me I couldn't do it, I had to prove him wrong. I climbed up to the roof  and got ready to jump into the pool.”
“I told him not to do it but he wouldn’t listen,” you chuckle.
“Yeah, so I got a running head start and jumped off into the pool. I made it in but it was shallower than I thought, and I broke my arm on the side of the pool.”
“You were a big cry baby,” you laugh and lean on his arm in laughter. “I held your hand the entire way to the hospital.”
“That you did,” he smiles down at you.
Denise’s jaw ticks in annoyance and jealously. She grabs her alcoholic drink and walks past you as if she is going to get a refil. However, she “trips” and she spills her entire drink all over your new dress. You gasp from how cold it is and stand up in shock.
“Oh, I am so sorry!” Denise apologizes.
“Shit, that’s cold!”
You look down at your dress to see the alcohol already staining your dress. You look at Denise and see the malicious intent in her eyes. She might be faking an apology but you know she couldn’t care less about this. She did this on purpose.
“Here, come with me. Let me clean this up before the stain sets.”
“Do you need me to come with you?” Jensen asks.
“No, I got this,” Denise chuckles.
She takes you into the cabin before you have  achance to say anything. As soon as the door is closed, she becomes a whole other person. She drops the nice girl act and shows her true colors.
“I don’t know what your problem is, but stay away from my boyfriend.”
“My problem? What are you talking about?”
You grab some napkins to dab your dress without her help.
“You can play games all you want but he’s mine, and I’ll make your life miserable if you keep doing what you’re doing.”
“I don’t want him,” you lie.
“Please,” she scoffs and rolls her eyes, “I saw the way you were looking at him the entire night. Stay away from him or I’ll do more than pour alcohol down your dress.” She walks back to the door but pauses because she’s not done talking. “I am better than you in every way. You might be the best friend but I’m his girlfriend, and I always get what I want.” She gives you a sweet smile as if she didn’t just threaten you. “It’s nice to meet you though. Sorry about the dress.”
As soon as she leaves the kitchen, tears roll down your cheeks. You can’t go back out there looking like a mess so you dry your cheeks and your dress as much as possible before going back outside. Everyone is mostly done with dinner so they’re standing around instead of sitting. Jensen immediately walks over to you with a look of concern on his face.
“Hey, are you okay? I can pay for the dry cleaning.”
You look at Denise who is watching you with careful eyes. Jensen might genuinely be happy with her so you can’t take that away from him and tell him how rotten his girlfriend is. Plus, would he even believe you? Yes, you’re his best friend but would he believe you over his girlfriend?
“No, it’s okay. It was a misunderstanding,” you sigh.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah.”
You excuse yourself and walk over to Jared who has been watching you three the entire night. He had two glasses of water at dinner so he’s sobered up some more. He sees the look of defeat on your face and nudges you arm.
“They won’t last.”
“What?”
“I don’t see them lasting another month.”
“Why would I care?”
“Come on,” Jared chuckles. “We all know you’re in love with him.”
“Shut your mouth, Jared,” you snap.
“What, am I wrong?”
You look at Jensen and Denise who are all over each other. She has her arms wrapped around his neck and his hands are low on her hips. You have to hold back your tears.
“It doesn’t matter how I feel. She clearly doesn’t want me around.”
“Give it time.”
Jensen and Denise walk into the cabin to do God only knows what, and you decide it’s best if you leave now. You don’t want to spend the night and have to hear them through the walls.
“As much fun as this whole thing has been, I should go now.”
You give Jared a side hug so you don’t get the alcohol on him.
“Good luck.”
You can’t leave this party without saying goodbye to Jensen. You’ll steal a couple of minutes and leave and that will be that. You don’t even have to give him a hug goodbye . You walk inside the house in search of your best friend. You walk past the kitchen into the living room where you overhear Denise and Jensen talking.
“What’s wrong? You were fine when we showed up.”
“I don’t like that you spend so much time with her. I’m your girlfriend who loves you.”
“She’s my best friend.” Great, they’re talking about you. How can you go in there now? It’ll only be awkward and you’ll give away that you’ve been listening. “We grew up together.”
“You’re with me now. Y/N needs to find someone she loves and leave us alone. I don’t want to be rude but it’s obvious she wants you.”
You can’t see Jensen’s face from where you’re at but you can only imagine what it looks like.
“You’re overreacting.”
“Do you have feelings for her? Is that why you’re being this way?”
You hold your breath and wait for his answer.
“Be this way? What are you talking about?”
“It’s me or her. Pick one. You can’t have both.”
You can’t bear the thought of hearing his answer because there is a chance that he might choose her. You quickly leave the room without hearing his answer and escape to your car. You shouldn’t have come. He has been with Denise for months across the world. He probably has a lot more fun with her than he does with you. He’s found someone to replace you with. You can’t fault him for choosing her. She can give him everything you can’t.
You peel out of the driveway and start the journey back home. Tears are flowing down your cheeks making it harder to see the road in front of you. It’s a particularly windy day so your car is slightly shaking; nothing you can’t control. It doesn’t help you’re driving in the mountains with no light except for that of your headlights. Through your tears, you don’t see the car on the other side of the roading coming straight at you.
You hit him going seventy miles an hour head on, and you’re thrown from the windshield and onto the groound. You left in such a hurry that you forgot to put your seatbelt on. The car you hit is a much bigger car than yours so it doesn’t have nearly as much damage as yours. The car slams on its break before slowly driving off, leaving you on the ground outside.
You gasp in pain and stare at the starry sky above you. Blood runs down your body and pools on the ground. You never took time to admire how pretty the night sky is. Your entire body is in pain but there is a certain peace that comes with being on the brink of death. You close your eyes to get some sleep when you hear someone calling your name off in the distance.
How much time has passed? It seems like minutes but could have been for much longer.
“Y/N!” Jensen gasps and slides on the ground when he gets to you. You open your eyes and see red and blue lights flashing off his face. “I’m right here. You’re going to be okay. Just hang on for me, okay? Please be okay.”
“Sir, you need to move.”
Jensen is pulled back so the paramedics can come in and do their job. You close your eyes because you’re so fucking tired. You feel yourself being lifted off the ground and onto something softer than the ground. You’re wheeled on a gurney into the ambulance with Jensen following closely behind.
“Sir, only family are allowed inside.”
“I’m her husband,” Jensen shouts and pushes past the paramedics.
They allow him to sit inside and be with you until they get to the hospital. Jensen grabs your bloody hand just as you roll your head to the side. You barely squeeze his hand to let him knwo you’re with him and not going toward the light no matter how tempting it might be.
“I’m right here, sweetheart. I’m holding your hand.”
The next time you open your eyes, you’re confronted with blinding white lights. Is this what Heaven is like? Did you die? You blink a few times to correct your vision and see you’re not in Heaven but a hospital room. You groan softly and look to your right where Jensen is. He is holding your hand with his head lowered like he’s praying. When he hears your painful groan, his head snaps up.
“Sweetheart. Hey, I’m right here.”
“Jensen?” you croak.
“Do you need some water?” You nod and he grabs a small cup of water. He helps you drink before setting the cup down. “How are you feeling?”
“What happened?”
“You collided with another car. The bastard left instead of staying but cops found him near where the cabin is. There’s only one road going in and out of town so it wasn’t hard to spot the truck with bumper damage. Your car is totaled though.”
Oh, yeah. The reason why you didn't see the other car is because you had tears flowing out of your eyes the entire time. Why were you crying? Right. Jensen was going to choose Denise over you. You take your hand away from his when you remember this and shift further from him.
“Where is Denise?”
“Gone.” Your eyes snap to his. “I broke up with her.”
“What? Why?”
“She made me choose. Anyone who makes me choose isn’t good enough to be with me.”
“What did she make you choose?” you ask even though you know the answer.
“It was either you or her, and you should know by now I will always choose you.”
“You shouldn’t have had to do that.”
“I’m glad she did.” He grabs your good hand and kisses the back of it. “I was blind to who was by my side my entire life.”
You smile and run your thumb on the back of his hand.
“What does this mean?”
“First, you get better. Then, I’m going to show you just how much I love you.”
“Deal,” you smile shyly.

Jensen x reader
Word Count- 1737
Warnings- We’re still on the angst train, language, a tiny bit of fluff if you squint
Y/N sighed as she walked through the front door of Jensen’s house. He had broken her heart and left her in tears on the kitchen floor the last time she was there. Now, she had to stay there for the rest of her pregnancy. It was a better option than staying in the hospital for months, but she honestly wondered just how much better it would be. Could she stay in her ex-boyfriend’s home and not be tortured by the heartbreak she endured? Or could they manage to get along enough for her to have the baby and then move back out? Only time would tell.
She made her way over to the couch to sit down while Jensen, Jared, and Gen brought in what she had asked for from her apartment. Her eyes never left Jensen as he moved around the room, putting down the boxes of her things in the living room to be moved to their designated spot later. It wasn’t a question of if she was still in love with him. Of course, she was. But, he had truly destroyed her when he walked out on her that day, and she didn’t know if that could ever be forgiven. She wouldn’t keep him from being in their child’s life if that’s what he wanted, but she didn’t know if he could ever be a part of hers again. Not in the romantic sense.
“You okay, baby?” Jensen asked her when he noticed her staring off into space.
“I’m fine, Jensen, and I’m not your baby anymore. So, please stop with the pet names,” she murmured, her heart hurting with the use of his term of endearment.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, hanging his head and walking back out the door to his truck.
“Y/N, take it easy on him, okay? He still loves you and feels like shit about what he did,” Jared stated, making her a little angry.
“Really? And this isn’t hard on me? He doesn’t have to come back to the house that I left him in with his heart shattered on the floor. He did that to me! I get that he feels bad, but this isn’t a picnic for me, either,” she shouted, her temper getting the best of her.
“Hey, she doesn’t need this right now,” Gen chimed in, coming to sit by Y/N, “Let’s all calm down and take a deep breath. No one is saying this isn’t hard for you, Y/N. Jared just meant that Jay is letting this eat him up on the inside. You both have a lot of healing to do, and maybe it’s best to try and move past all this together.”
“I’m trying, Gen. I am, but I’m still hurt. When I look at him, I can still see his face when he left and went to Dee’s that day,” she whispered, wiping a tear away that escaped, “I promise I’ll try not to be so hard on him, but I can’t promise I’ll ever be able to take him back.”
“Hey, no one is asking that of you. We just want you guys to be able to live with each other in peace. You don’t need the stress of arguing with him all the time. Me and Jared are genuinely worried for you and the baby. He just doesn’t know how to express that appropriately,” Gen chuckled, giving Y/N a hug when she joined in.
“Yeah, what she said,” Jared huffed with faux annoyance.
“Thanks, guys. You’re right. We can’t possibly make it these next months at each other’s throats. I’ll be nicer,” Y/N rolled her eyes but a small smile on her face.
“Is everything okay?” Jensen asked, noticing Gen hugging Y/N on the couch. No matter how angry she was with him, he still loved her with everything he was and couldn’t stand the thought of her hurting.
“It’s fine. Gen was giving me advice on how to handle these months I have ahead of me,” she said, Jensen nodding and turning to walk away.
“Hey, Jay,” Jensen turned around to see what she needed, “I’m sorry for earlier. I didn’t mean to be so harsh. I want to get along.”
“No need to apologize. I want to get along too, Y/N,” he agreed with a smile, but his face fell as soon as he turned around.
He wanted to get along. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was that he wanted to have her back in his arms, in his bed, and not just sexually. He wanted all of her again, but he knew he didn’t deserve it. He had hurt her deeply, and he had to deal with the consequences. He could only hope that she would forgive him and they could try again one day. But, if not, he would still be there for her, always. She was the love of his life and now the mother of one of his children. Even if they never reconnected romantically, there would never be another woman for him. She was it for him, and he prayed that she would think of him like that again in the future.
Tumblr media
Y/N was sitting in the bed in the guest room watching tv. She had insisted on not being in the master bedroom. It was hard enough being in the house for now. She couldn’t imagine sleeping in the same bed that she had shared with him. That was asking for it. So, there she was, in the guest bedroom of her ex-boyfriend’s house, her mind racing with all the memories of how she ended up there.
She knew that Jensen hadn’t wanted any more kids, but she still didn’t understand his reaction. Sure, she was terrified when she found out she was pregnant, but he had been irate. He had said that he had reacted that way because he was scared, but she had difficulty swallowing that explanation. She had been afraid, but she hadn’t exploded. She hadn’t been so upset that she ruined their entire relationship. She wiped at the tears slipping down her cheeks and took a deep breath. She had to quit thinking about all this if she was ever going to be able to live with him.
She looked around her room at all the things Jensen had put away. He had insisted that he unpack all her things for her so she didn’t have to and would be comfortable. She knew he was trying, but it just wasn’t enough. Not now, anyway. Maybe, one day, she could let it all go, but it wasn’t right now. A knock on her door made her jump, ending her reverie.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” Jensen asked, poking his head in the door.
“I’m good. Just watching some tv.”
“I- uh, I brought you something to eat,” he stuttered, opening the door and walking in with a tray,” I made you grilled cheese and soup. Chicken noodle, not tomato. I know you don’t like tomato soup.”
“Thank you, Jay,” she said with a genuine smile.
“You don’t have to thank me. I’m doing my job. I’m here to take care of you both,” he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. His tell that he was nervous.
“Jay, you don’t have to be nervous around me. I know we aren’t a couple now, but we were friends for sixteen years. Am I still hurt? Yes, but I’m not going to yell or bite your head off,” she chuckled, patting the bed for him to come sit down.
“I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,” he sighed, sitting beside her on the bed and giving her the food.
“I’ll let you know if I’m uncomfortable, Jay. Walking around me like you are on eggshells makes me uncomfortable.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Stop apologizing for everything, too,” she laughed.
“I’m so- Look, I should be apologizing to you all day, every day, Y/N. I fucked up,” he sighed.
“You did, but make it up to me by being my friend again. That’s what I want,” she smiled, making his heart flutter.
“I’ll try, I will, but it will be hard,” he admitted.
“Why?”
“Because I’m still in love with you. I don’t want to be just your friend anymore. I want us again.”
“Jensen,” she sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose, “I know you love me. I love you, but I can’t let it go. Not right now, maybe not ever. I know you said you’re sorry, and I appreciate that. But you don’t fully realize how you broke me that day. You left me to go stay with your ex-wife when I told you I was having your baby. How am I supposed to just let that go? How am I supposed to know you won’t leave me again when it’s something that scares you?” she sniffled, the hurt washing over again.
“Y/N, I don’t know how many times to say I’m sorry and that I royally fucked up! Do you want me to get down on my knees and beg? Grovel at your feet? I’ll do it! Just tell me what I have to do!” he pleaded, his eyes welling up with tears.
“Give me time, and don’t pressure me. I’m going to have to work through this on my own. And I can’t promise I’ll ever be able to be your girlfriend again. But you have to give me time to figure it out on my own, okay? Please?”
“Okay. I won’t bring it up again,” he groaned, standing to leave.
“Jay, don’t be like that. I’m sorry you didn’t get the answer you wanted right now, but please, don’t be like that with me. I’m asking as your friend, don’t make this harder on either of us.”
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I’ll take you as my friend rather than nothing at all. Forgive me?”
“Of course, Jay,” she smiled.
He didn’t say another word. He leaned down to place a kiss on her forehead and walked out the door, shutting softly behind him. She threw her head back on her pillow and groaned. She hated hurting him, but she just couldn’t move past her own hurt at that moment. She sat up, took a bite of her sandwich, and rolled her eyes. Living with him was going to be a lot harder than she had anticipated.

A night that was supposed to be romantic is taking a wrong turn....
There had been an ache first in his chest that had told him something was wrong, an almost burning that seemed to grow the longer he stood at the bar.  A pull of hurt that grew and twisted, it had no reason for being, and that confused him, briefly distracting him from his anger.  Then he looked over towards Yara for a moment just to see how she was doing since he had been gone for longer than he had anticipated or intended to be.  Her posture gave it all away, making the ache suddenly make sense to him.  It was through their bond and caused by her upset.  Whatever had bothered her earlier had gotten worse, and he had a feeling that Argona had not helped it.  Turning away from Argona without another word, he strode purposefully towards his wife without another word to the succubus.
“Come, we are leaving.” He gently touched her shoulder, his voice matching the softness of his touch.  Astaroth wasn’t upset with her in the slightest, and he didn’t want her to misinterpret that he was.  “You are sitting here looking dejected on what I had hoped to be a fun evening out for us, Yara.  I am sorry for whatever has upset you.  I’ll call the car and we can go back to the cabin and talk.” His expression was soft, as was his voice, but his eyes were studying her meticulously.
“Don’t you need to finish your conversation?”  Her voice was a little cold and a lot distant.  Yara looked everywhere but at him, uncomfortable, and if he had not been supernatural, her voice would have been too quiet for him to hear. It was all she could do not to cry as she shifted in the chair a little.  The last thing she wanted was him feeling sorry for her, pity was worse than anything.  “I don’t want to ruin your evening, I’ll be fine.  I always am.”  She swallowed, fighting her emotions that were having a full fledged war within her.
“It is finished, and I’m not going to leave my wife sitting here looking and feeling dejected in order to talk to anyone.” His brows drew together, not understanding her discomfort and avoidance of him.  He hadn’t done anything that he could think of to hurt her, or upset her.  Jealousy or insecurity he could understand, but now he was confused.  Was this part of that?   Was he misunderstanding her reaction?   He wanted to support her, but how?
“I'm fine. There is nothing wrong.  You do not have to end your conversation with your friend due to me.” She wouldn't look at him, and her voice was anything but convincing.  If she met his gaze, he would see the lie plainly in her eyes.  At least looking away from him kept it hidden for a few more moments.  Actually saying that she knew that he’d prefer to be with anyone in the club but her, would break her.  Her father forcing the marriage had been the ultimate punishment on her.  Not because Astaroth was cruel, but because he wasn’t.  However, he was male.  A male that she was quite sure wasn’t oblivious to the fact that many beings in the establishment were lusting over, and most of them would be a better companion for the evening, or for any time, than her.
“Yara, what is wrong?” He waived over a waitress; he needed a drink badly.  He took one of her hands gently, still not understanding why she wouldn’t even look in his direction.  It felt like they’d gone all the way back to the beginning again, even farther back than the beginning honestly, and he was starting to become frustrated. “You’re lying and I know it.  I’m not going to stop asking until you give me a real answer.”  For the moment he was able to keep his voice calm, but it was a war that he did not know how long he would be able to win.  Her avoiding answering was causing his frustration and anger to rise, and it was not like he’d ever had to contain it before.
“Nothing.  I said I'm fine.” Still not looking at him, her chin lifted, and she ordered a blood wine when the waitress came.  “You don't have to stay sitting, go finish your conversation.  I believe the alluring blonde is still over at the bar.”  Now there was an undertone of bitterness that was so palpable in her voice that a deaf being would even have felt it.  Yara tried to pull her hand back that he’d taken, but of course he wasn’t going to let that go either, much like the conversation.  Once more she swallowed down her emotions and tried to put up walls.  Somehow she found that far harder with Astaroth than with anyone in the past.  After their previous conversations, the way he had treated her, and the way she had hoped things would be, it now felt like she had been a fool and that stung.
He ordered a demon's brew, neat. After the waitress walked away he leaned in and spoke right next to her ear. “Fine, I will not argue with you here.” His fingertips caressed her upper arm.  “I was not having a conversation, I was waiting for the bartender and being annoyed by the bitch of a blonde.  If you want to be mad at me for that, I can't stop you.  However, you’re not getting rid of me.  So, be mad.” He kissed her neck just below her ear then sat upright. His breath had been hot against her neck and ear, fanning out with each word.
Astaroth could have said everything sitting up and she would have heard him.  He could have refrained from touching her.  The kiss was not needed since at the moment she was doing her best to attempt to pretend he wasn’t there.  However, he knew one thing: sometimes you had to gently push someone to pull the truth out of them.  It wasn’t something he’d ever done often, but he knew just enough to be able to do it.
She felt a wave of desire flow through her for him when his lips met her skin. There was no doubt that he had known just what he was doing.  He wasn’t fighting fair, but then neither was she by not saying anything.  She guessed they were even.  “I'm not..” Yara looked down, as he took her hand now in both his and laced their fingers. “What are you doing?” Now her head turned to look at him, brows drawn together. What WAS he doing?  And WHY?
Smirking, he leaned over until their foreheads were touching as he replied, “not allowing you to push me away because you misread a situation.”  When she tried to pull her hand back a second time, he held tighter between his two. “I brought YOU here to have an enjoyable night.  If you wish to ruin it, I won't stop you.  I, however, will also not argue with you. I’m not leaving your side, and I am still going to show the only woman here who I care to be with, the affection she deserves.”  Pulling her hand up, he kissed the back without breaking eye contact.  “Together.”
She sat blinking at him without saying anything.  What kind of game was he playing? Why did she feel so confused?  There were new emotions and feelings flowing through her and she didn’t know how to handle them.  Everything was so overwhelming.  The words of Lucifer battling the words of Astaroth now in her head.  Astaroth’s actions battling her father’s words of foretelling.
While he waited for her to say something he was glad their drinks were delivered.   He needed the strong demonic liquid to help him deal with whatever set this round of emotions off.  He was perplexed by her behavior and feeling suddenly closed off from her. Why did she suddenly think that he was looking to be with someone else after they’d had this conversation.  They’d agreed.  This had been covered.  Did she not trust him?  What had he done to deserve that?
“Asti, I…” suddenly she felt unsure again and her head dropped away from his; so that her eyes were looking at her lap, “I mean you don't have to…”  She sighed, and her jaw worked.  Why had coming here made her feel so off balance suddenly?
“Have to what? Act like we're married?  We are. Act like your husband? I am. Act like I like you? I do.  Act like I care?” He reached over and took her chin gently to turn her face to look at him. “Papilio, we may not be madly in love with one another, but I do care about you and want you happy. I’ve told you that before, I don’t know why any of this should come as a surprise.  I wasn’t flirting with that female, if that is what you think, and there isn't anyone else here I want to spend time with. I don't know why you're now feeling insecure, but I am yours.” Astaroth leaned over and softly kissed her cheek.  He was starting to understand, remembering what she had told him about things Lucifer had said.  This was their first time in public.  Maybe a place with fewer people would have been better.  A wine bar instead of a nightclub.
“Only because you are being forced.” Suddenly her voice was colder, she was fighting tears and she didn't know why.  She was trying to put on her millennia old mask of indifference and condescension but it wasn’t working. “We both know I'm not the one in this bar you'd be with if you had a choice.” Her eyes again swept the women lusting after him, then could not meet his afterwards.
His eyes followed hers and he sighed. “I cannot help how others look at me.  Just like I can't control the men who are ogling you.” They quick whip of her head, to look at him, told him she hadn't even noticed. She had been so caught up in her own jealousy and insecurity that she had not noticed anyone paying attention to her.  He found that intriguing.  She had been afraid of losing him.  It had never occurred to her that there were others within the bar that would have been glad to take her away from him.  It still bothered him slightly that she was taking her insecurity out on him, even if he was beginning to understand.  “Why are you getting upset at me for what they are doing?” Astaroth wasn't sure where this patience was coming from, but he was thankful for it.
“I'm not.” Yara protested. “I just know how this goes.” She saw one of his brows raise so she continued with how her thoughts went.  “Once you find a way out of…” a finger landed on her lips very softly, but it was the darkening of his eyes that gave her pause more than that.  She knew that look.  She’d seen it during their wedding.  She’d seen it with her father.  This was anger.  Deep, dark, anger. The fact that what she had started to say evoked that emotion so strong and deep told her one thing: she was very, very wrong.
“I have not, nor do I plan to look for a way out of this. I have tried making plans for the future with you today about the house.  We will be visiting someone who can tell us about your mother.  Do not finish that sentence if you truly want things to work out between us, even if just as friends in this arrangement.  Because if that is what you truly think of me, then there is no future of anything but resentment and discord.” He was angry but trying not to lash at her the way he normally would at someone who insulted him like that.  A temper tantrum from her was the last thing he fucking needed.

CLOSET PUN - Excerpt #17
Richie: The Human Draft 1
[Excerpt below the cut!]
“Richie.” Jet’s voice was so quiet beside him, he almost thought he’d imagined it. Richie rolled over to face him. In the dim, shiny with tears, Jet’s eyes were very blue. “I pushed him away.” “You were trying to protect him.” “Protect him or just keep him on a leash?” Jet shook his head, turning to stare at the ceiling. He lowered his voice, so soft Richie had to lean in closer to hear him. “What you don’t get is – I don’t know if Toby told you about me.” He should be honest. “He did.” “The thought of anything happening to him made me crazy, not just because...I mean…” “Because you love him.” It was so obvious he was almost surprised Toby couldn't see it. Almost. He was still Toby, after all. “Right. But it's not just that. And it’s fucking ridiculous, because I know it’s not forever. I know it’s not, and I think that’s what makes me cling tighter. This isn’t his home like it is mine. He’s going to leave one day, like everyone else does. It’s just inevitable.” Richie was starting to think the woman who ran this school could really do with hiring an onsite therapist. “Jet, just because he’s going to leave the house doesn’t mean he’s going to, like, leave. Leave you. I know Toby. He’s not going to forget about you.” “He’s got a whole other life out there.” “So do you, though. Look.” He leaned up on his elbows, his exhaustion leaving him, replaced with frustration. “Your problem is that you’re scared.” “No shit.” “You’re scared of having your own life. You’re how old, seventeen? You’re nearly an adult. You can leave this place when that happens and make your own choices. Get a job, make friends, find a new place to live. You might need a little help getting started, but you can do it. There’s nothing else stopping you. But you’re afraid to do any of it, because you feel like–” “–Like I don't deserve it.” Jet glanced at him. “Yeah. Stupid, right?” “It is stupid. Because you do deserve it. And Toby would tell you that too.”

Heaven & Arthur Visit The LaVeaus
@call-sign-shark CELEBRATES 1K
Tumblr media
This is part 1 of Heaven & Arthur visiting Mel and her family because I'm cutting it off at 2680 words. LOL
Modern AU
@call-sign-shark's OC Heaven and her husband Arthur Shelby travel to Louisiana to visit some military men Arthur served under and with in the military. But it is Heaven that gets the biggest surprise of the visit.
“We leave in an hour to pick up Arthur and his wife, Heaven, from the airport,” Cade entered the kitchen to let Mel know.  He dropped a kiss on the top of her head, then looked around at Mama Marie, Dontanion and Francios.  “You two, behave.” He pointed at the brothers with a serious expression.  Arthur was suffering from PTSD from the Gulf and the last thing anyone needed was the two LaVeau brothers being assholes and causing him to have some kind of attack.
“One wandering ancestor and we will forever be doubted.” Dontantion smirked and winked at his sister, as his shoulders raised. “One wandering ancestor who wandered in on my friend who was getting dressed for her wedding and gave her a death prophecy.” Mel rolled her eyes as Cade took a seat next to her and planted a kiss on her cheek this time.  “You are lucky she did not stroke out.” Casting a look over to her mother, “can you please make these two behave, mama?”
“Boys, do not make me resurrect your fathers.”  The smile she gave her sons made everyone’s blood run cold.  As loving and warm as Marie was, no one ever forgot she was also the scariest person currently walking the planet. Only Rasputin may have ever topped her, and she had far outlived him.
“Yes, mama.” Francois replied before putting a strong elbow into his younger brother’s side.  Even at over one hundred and fourty, Dontanion sometimes did not act a day over 16.   “No ancestors scaring Cade’s friend, or his lovely wife.” The look in his eye was serious.  Even if the death prophecy HAD come to pass, and they HAD hated Mel’s friend, and it HAD been hilarious at the time, causing a brave soldier still bearing the mental wounds of war further trauma would not be something they would partake in.
“Please, he was over in the Gulf with me and some of the guys on the team.  He was under Alexander.  Has some bad PTSD, seeing spirits that he would think were hallucinations from there might just send him…” Cade raised his brows and tilted his head, he didn’t need to finish, both brothers were nodding.  “His wife, I don’t know much about but he says she is an angel and shy.  Her name’s Heaven.  She seems to have dont him a lot of good, he seems to be healing more.  Figured she and Mel would be the ones hanging out, maybe with Mama Marie too.”  He winked over at the woman who was like a second mother to him and who could make anyone feel welcome and loved.
“Of course, any of your friends are welcome here.”  Love and warmth emanated from Marie.  While she had immense powers, which she did not hesitate to use to protect those she loved; she was, at her heart, a mother.  All of Mel’s friends had been adopted as surrogate children.  None were turned away if they needed a mother figure, that was just Marie and the time she came from.
“Thank you, mama.” Love radiated off of Melania too as her gaze alternated around the other four in the room at the time, before her attention turned to Cade.  “When do the others get here?  I know Alexander got in last night and is still passed out in his room.”
“Tomorrow.”  Cade answered, picking her hand up off of the table and kissing the back where there was a scar that lay across running from just below where her pinky met her hand to the crease of her wrist.  The last evidence of the whole ordeal involving Ambrose and Adama.  Even though it was long ago, it still made his heart clench and sometimes made him want to ask Marie to bring the assholes back so they could kill them again. “So you girls will have twenty-four hours before testosterone rules the house.”  He winked at her, banishing thoughts of the past.
“Lovely.  Just remember, Archibald can contain you all if you get out of line.”  The whole room erupted in laughter at the threat of having her pet albino alligator snack on people.  Not that he hadn’t been used as nature’s body disposal device before when required, but not on people they liked.
*****
Louis Armstrong Airport in Kenner was a bustle of activity as Mel sat on Cade’s lap down on the first floor by the baggage claim.  It seemed the easiest place for Arthur and Heaven to find them.  Although, from what Arthur had told Cade over the phone, Heaven shouldn’t be too hard to spot with snow white hair and skin just as fair.  A statement that had apparently gotten Cade promptly cussed out for mentioning she should fit in with the aforementioned alligator in the swamp.  Mel had a feeling that her fiance was lucky he’d been on the other side of the ocean from Arthur at the time.
They watched as the flight from Heathrow Airport flipped over from “On Time” to “Landed”.  It still amazed Mel that they had direct flights, and for no more money, not that money mattered to her family…with Ambrose and Nic “missing”, she had complete control over Meirs Enterprises Worldwide, which meant more money than she cared to think about.  For friends of Cade, money was NOT an option anyway.
About 20 minutes later, Mel felt it, somewhere near was a powerful witch.  Her hand went instinctively to Cade’s, their fingers interlacing.  The signature was not one she recognized, the magic different, old world like her mother and brothers’.  Her eyes scanned the crowd as people descended from the second floor on the escalators. She could more than stand on her own, but after the past events, having Cade there without her family was not something she was altogether comfortable with.  If whomever possessed the magic was hostile, it could get ugly fast if they sensed her as well.  Not since Adama had she faced down a threat, and that…she closed her eyes and swallowed before the thought fully materialized.
“Do I need my gun, or is this something of the invisible sort, babe?” Cade’s chin rested on her shoulder as he spoke just loud enough for her to hear.  He knew her signs well enough.  When she was tense, it was never a good one.
“Shooting them is as good as dropping a house on them, I guess.  A lot easier when inside too.” She tried not to let her nerves show with some humor, but she was anything but lighthearted with the situation.  As they sat there waiting for Arthur and Heaven, she did not stop scanning everyone coming in their direction.   It was that scanning that produced what would be the biggest shock of the day, the revelation that the witch was Arthur’s wife.  “You are definitely NOT shooting the witch.”
Cade chuckled, having no clue what had suddenly changed the beauty on his lap’s mind.  “And that would be because….”
Mel stood as the pair approached them, “you must be Heaven,” she greeted the tiny woman with a bright smile and offered hand.  There was no way that Heaven couldn’t sense her as well, but seemed to completely not notice.  She then remembered that Cade had mentioned that Heaven was originally from France, and since Louisiana is a bilingual state, she had an idea to make the woman feel even more welcome. “Bienvenue en Louisiane où dans le bayou, les sorcières sont vénérées. Je crois que vous et ma famille vous entendrez très bien. Ma mère est une grande prêtresse du vaudou. (Welcome to Louisiana where in the bayou, the witches are revered. I believe that you and my family will get along very well. My mother is a high priestess of Voodoo.)”
Heaven’s eyes widened at her words, clearly not having expected them. “Comment le saviez-vous?  (How did you know?)”  The woman looked absolutely confused, which was when Mel remembered she still had the talisman on that Dontanion had given her when they were hunting Adama that cloaked her magic.
“Parfois, une sorcière en connaît une autre. J'ai aussi deux frères sorciers à la maison. C’est en quelque sorte une affaire de famille. (Sometimes a witch just knows another one.  I have two warlock brothers at home too.  It kind of runs in the family.)”  Mel gave the woman a wink and then turned to Arthur and Cade who were both looking at her with rather confused expressions.
“What, can’t one girl fluent in French welcome another?  Do you know how often I get to use that?” She smiled, Cade giving her a look that said he knew better and she’d have to explain once  that they were alone. “You must be Arthur.”  She extended her hand to him, “it is such a pleasure to meet any friend of Cade’s.  You both are now family, that is how it works here.  We will spend a couple of days out on the Plantation, and a couple here in the Garden District.  My mother has been up since dawn cooking, so we best not keep her waiting too long.  Mama Marie is not one to be kept waiting.”  Mel laughed.
Cade knew his fiance better than that.  Those were far too many words for just a polite hello, and he did recognize enough to know that she’d found her witch.  But, he was a good boy and would say nothing.  Things normally worked out more in his favor that way.  “You’re discussing how to bankrupt us in the French Quarter aren’t you?” A brow rose and he nudged Arthur with an elbow. “I hope you brought all your plastic, bro, my girl can shop!”
Arthur for his part either missed what the exchange was about or was so entranced by his bride he gave not one fuck.  He did, however, growl at Cade’s remark, which told the fellow soldier that he probably had experienced a similar shopping excursion to the one Mel had more than once put him through.  Although, to bankrupt them, Mel would have to literally buy the entire French Quarter, as in the land it was sitting on and all the buildings.
"Can you not behave for two minutes?"  Mel’s brow rose as she looked between the two men, Cade trying not to laugh and Arthur about taken aback at her words.  “No growling.”  She raised both brows and looked pointedly at the Brit.  Heaven giggled next to her, which just had Arthur rolling his eyes. “Now, you boys do the heavy lifting of getting the luggage, Miss Heaven and I are going to go get the car from the garage and bring it around.  And you two can ride in the back.”  She dropped a kiss on Cade’s cheek with a big grin and a wink over to Heaven.  She already liked the striking and beautiful woman.  Wait till her family laid eyes on her!
*****
From the airport, to River Road, Mel gave a guided tour to their guests of the historical context of each and every plantation along the road.  Her mother had been alive for the building of many, although she did not share that quite yet.  For Heaven, it might not have surprised her, for Arthur, he might have tried to exit the vehicle while at 60MPH.  The latter was more her concern.
Finally they arrived at Vita Pacis Plantation (Life of Serenity).  It had been renamed after Ambrose’s death, her mother choosing the name for what this now represented to them all.  It was a place of peace, of respite from the life they lived in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, from the missions they went on collecting artifacts around the globe.  It was to this estate, to the buildings that rested upon the land and had for over 300 years, that Mel and her friends returned to find peace and to be at peace.  It would be on this estate where she would marry Cade in six months.
As they drove up the red brick drive, live oaks arching over it with their green leaves and the dangling spanish moss providing shade, she heard Heaven gasp as she got her first view of the grand plantation house mansion.  It was impressive with white limestone exterior and grecian columns that rose three stories, the floor to ceiling french doors that served as windows to the rooms were framed with dark red hurricane shutters.  It created an impressive picture when famed with the arch of the live oaks over the drive.  Just the guest house had four bedrooms and was a sight, but the grand mansion was something out of a movie.  Lovingly preserved by the Meirs family, and now the LaVeaus, it was a piece out of time and history.  The dark stains of the past that it held could never be erased, but they would be made up for over time.  Now it stood for the LaVeau legacy, and that was a strong, vibrant, and proud legacy.
Mel knew that when she had opened the wrought iron gates of the drive, it had alerted those within the guardhouse and the mansion of their arrival.  No one got onto or off of the property without being noticed.  If you tried to come on secretly, there were things seen and unseen that would greet you.  You had better hope the former got to you before the latter did.  So, when Mel pulled the large black SUV around to the back of the mansion, it was of little surprise that her mother stood flanked by her brothers, waiting to greet their guests.  She could not wait till they discovered the surprise that lay in store.
Once the car was stopped, and everyone was out, Mel led Arthur and Heaven over to her family while Cade unloaded the luggage from the back.  She could tell that all three of them immediately recognized in Heaven what she had and the adoring smile her mother cast on Heaven warmed her heart.  Marie was known for taking in anyone needing a mother and love, and it was clear she was already looking that way at Heaven, no matter if she had family back home or not.
Marie was the first to speak, stepping forward and taking both of Heaven’s hands in her own. “Salve, fili mi, maiores te ad nos perduxerunt. Hic semper domum habebis. (Welcome, my child, it seems the ancestors have lead you to us.  Here you will always have a home.)” Then she leaned forward and placed a soft kiss in the middle of Heaven’s forehead.
Arthur tensed and Mel leaned over, “my mother adopts anyone she feels needs love.  She sensed that in Heaven and has welcomed her to always see this as a home.”  She kept her voice low as to not embarrass Heaven who was now tightly embracing Marie and she swore she saw a tear on the porcelain skin of her cheek. “You too Arthur, Vita Pacis means Life of Serenity.  Any friend of Cade’s is family here, where the mind can find peace when one needs.” With a soft and warm smile on her face, her eyes gently closed as she inclined her head.
The stoic man just inclined his head in return before turning back to the scene where both Francois and Dontanion were further introducing themselves to his wife, who seemed to be taking everything in stride.  As dwarfed as the beauty was by her gruff husband, she looked absolutely tiny next to Mel’s brothers who were both well over six feet in height and broad shouldered.  “See, I told you this trip would be good for you.”  Cade finally made it up to them and clapped Arthur on the shoulder.  “And Mama Marie and the spooky bunch has adopted another stray.  I guess we’re brothers now, Arthur.  Wait till you taste her food!  We may never get you back to England.”  They all laughed as they began to head in to see exactly how big of a feast Marie HAD prepared.

Beware of the Ides of March
Tumblr media
Quadruple Trouble at the Shelby Mansion...
Tumblr media
TW - Blood, Murder, Death
The two couples entered together, devious smirks all around.  Their host would have no inkling of the actual motivation behind their attendance. Had he, he might have considered revoking the gold leaf edged invitations that he'd had hand delivered to the ladies that were now entering his mother's mansion on the arm of a demon and an angel.
Instead his hubris had overpowered all and he'd sent the invitations.  Seeing them both now, a wide grin spread across his face.  Those that doubted him would soon come to understand that he could come to run the family business just as well as any of them.  He would show them, he would show the all!  And with those two ladies on his side, no one would doubt that he could pull in contacts and associates that would form an empire.
Jasper and Adriel knew they had little to worry about from the mortals milling about.  In fact, the mortals should be fearing them.  Only slightly less lethal were the women they walked in with, the witch and the grigori.  So, there was no fear that anything would happen as they momentarily left the beauties to obtain drinks from their host's bar.
With the latest bauble that Jasper had gifted her, a blood red ruby, around her neck, Eva was damn near untouchable, and Anna was a power immortal in her own right. Eva and Anna were the perfect juxtaposition of dark to light in almost all ways - magic, complexion, business dealings. They could both be ruthless and devious when the need arose, and it most certainly had this night.
For the next few hours, liquor would flow, conversations would as well, dances would be shared, and food enjoyed.  The end goal would never leave the mind or sight of the foursome, but they would allow themselves some enjoyment before the pinnacle of the night.
There was supposed to be an announcement at midnight.  One about the usurping of the throne of the Shelby dynasty. However, that announcement never would come.
At a quarter til, Anna lured their host into his office with seduction she had honed over the years of having to distract beings in New Orleans.  The men were in the room, but kept to the shadows, they were mere observers in this endeavor.  Once the door was closed, and privacy ensured, Anna pulled their host very, very close.
“Michael, you really never should have double crossed Tommy, cher. I'm afraid you have to die now.  And then you can rot in Caligo.” Anna whispered it in his ear and then pulled back just in time to see his eyes go wide as Eva slipped her blade slowly between his ribs to embed it in his heart.
Both women then moved to the side, joining hands as they watched the life drain from Michael Gray.  A large crimson stain growing on the beige oriental rug beneath him.  Jasper and Adriel came to stand on either side of the two women. The quadruple being the last thing Michael saw as he slipped into the hereafter.
“Right then,” Jasper quipped with a devious smirk.  “Time to take this bastard down to Caligo.  Arioch is so looking forward to a new play toy.  He has a new cerberus puppy, you know, needs a chew toy.”  He winked and kissed Eva on the cheek before ripping Michael’s soul free from his body with a *pop*.  “Be right back, love.  Don’t want to keep the Demon of Revenge waiting, he gets testy, you know.”  With a wink, the demon was gone.
“He does enjoy doing that.”  Adriel chuckled as he waved his hand.  All fingerprints and memories of the foursome were removed from the entire party.  When Michael’s body was found, there would be nothing to tie them to it, and therefore, nothing to tie Tommy to it either.  Jean Pierre’s attorney was getting him released from jail presently on the trumped up charges Michael had orchestrated with the Bowery Boys from London.  They’d also brought over a few friends from the French Quarter to help him get some payback for that.
“He promised to take me to see the puppy tomorrow, I’ll have to give our regards to Michael again.  It was such a nice ending to the party.”  Eva smirked and winked.  The surprise on Michael’s face had been quite delicious.
“Want to join us for dinner?  We’re going to myst down to Tuscany for some authentic Italian.  I know an amazing cook down there that is over a century old and has some tricks up her sleeve.  You and Jasper are more than welcome to join.”  Anna smiled.  She was glad her friend had found a woman that complimented him so.  “There’s also a siren down there that needs a talking to, so we’re going to take a dip in the Mediterranean.  Always a fun time.  We like to do it naked.”  She winked at Eva.
“Now, how could I turn down an offer like that?”  Eva grinned deviously.  Naked fun with her demon was always a good time and if that siren looked at him wrong..well, accidents did happen and she knew Anna was always amused when Adriel had to fix things.  She and the other woman did get along so well.   Yes, this was turning out to be a very good night.

Dean sits alone at the library table with just a dim lamp to light the room and a glass of alcohol next to him. He hasn’t been doing good as of late because of the fucking Mark on his arm. It’s a constant reminder of how much he’s got to lose, and it’s taken over his life. He wants the damn thing removed but he’d be putting people in danger if he does. This Mark has already claimed so much of his life that he’s trying to hold onto whatever he has left, refusing to give into it more.
He traces the edge of the Mark with his index finger and goosebumps crawl up his arm immediately. There’s something raw in the danger that befalls the Mark including the First Blade. He’s used it plenty of times to kill those who deserve it even though it itches for more. The First Blade will never be satisfied with how many kills Dean gives it because there is a purity in how many victims it can claim.
Including himself. In the end, he’ll fall victim to his own blade. Would he die? Would the Mark allow him the sweet relief of death?
“Hey, you alright? Why is it so dark in here?”
Dean is pulled from his thoughts and looks up at his brother who has entered the room.
“What do you want?” Dean asks and turns the brightness up on the lamp.
“I might have found a lead on Metatron. He’s the only one that’s gonna have information on the Mark.”
Dean is so sick and tired of hearing how his brother found a lead only for that lead to turn up dead. He’s been led on by hope far too many times only for it to bite him in the ass later.
“Sammy, how many times do I have to tell you? Stop looking for the cure. It’s pointless if it means a lot of people are gonna be hurt in the process.”
“I know but this time is different. Listen to this. Rowena is a really old witch. She comes from the same kind of magic as the Mark, so I figure if we can get to Metatron, then--”
Dean slams his glass onto the table, shattering it to pieces. His hand bleeds but he doesn’t care about that. Sam jumps at the sudden noise and stares at his brother with uncertainty in his eyes.
“Don’t make me smack you.”
Sam’s shoulders sag in defeat.
“Fine. Whatever.”
The younger brother leaves to investigate this on his own. If Dean isn’t gonna help him then he’ll do everything himself. Dean knows he will never give up because that’s not what they do. If it were Sam who took this Mark on, then Dean would be the same way. Dean shakes his head and grabs another glass from the small cart by the table and pours himself another drink. He has bigger things to worry about than the Mark like Rowena, Cain, the Book of the Damned, and just about every fucking thing in his life.
You walk into the library with a book in your hand and Dean’s mood becomes ten times better. Everything in his life is fucked up but you. You’re the light in all this darkness and he’s so scared you’ll end up hurt because of him. You look up and smile when you see Dean but the smile is lost when you see the pieces of glass on the table.
“Hey, where’s Sam?” you ask.
“Doing nerdy things,” Dean shrugs.
“Okay, can I talk to you about this book I just finished? Like I need to tell someone.”
“Sure,” he chuckles and welcomes the distraction.
“Okay,” you rush to the table and sit next to him, “so the main character, Alana, works at this big company that everyone knows about and she feels trapped doing the same shit every single day. She wants to be doing more with her life but doesn’t know where to start or what she should be doing. That is, until the CEO of the company, Marcel started doing some shady shit. She tries to find out what he’s been up to, and it turns out that he’s making this serum that will make him rule the universe or some shit like that. She’s like hell no so she tries to foil his plans but ends up as his test subject! She tries to escape him but he ended up giving her the serum since he needed a human subject. This whole big fight happens between them but I was not expecting that turn of events!”
Dean isn’t paying attention to a goddamn word you’re saying. You’re so passionate and happy about this book you’re reading that he’s focused on your smile, the way your eyes light up, and how you can’t sit still. You give him joy like no other. How did he ever cope before he met you?
“Are you even listening to me? Why are you staring at me like that?” you ask.
Dean can’t help but grab your chair and pull you closer to him. He slides his big hands into your hair and plants his lips on your impulsively. You haven’t felt his lips in over a year since he kissed you when he was ass-backward drunk. You thought he never brought it up because he was drunk, but he didn’t want the one good thing in his life to go away if he confessed how he felt about you.
He pulls away from you and watches as your mouth opens and closes like you don’t know what to do. Your cheeks heat up in nervousness because you were not expecting that at all.
“Oh, okay,” you stutter.
“I’m sorry.”
“No, don’t be. I’m glad I found you and not Sam.”
“So, how did Alana escape Marcel?”
Just like that, you’re back to passionately talking about your book. You’re the only thing anchoring him down and keeping him sane, and he needs a bit of that right now.

These Wicked Depths up on ao3!
Come check this out for gay pirates and supernatural shenanigans!
Editing by the good graces of @kamikazequail Chapter babble under the cut
-Frankly, I'm not that creative when it comes to creating fantasy languages themed after existing ones. Maybe I should work on that, and maybe I will in future revisions of this story, but for now everything in here is just real world languages with the occasional made up names. Kathibi is essentially Arabic, and Midlands Trade is referential to the historical Lingua Franca of the Mediterranean. That said, while the cultures are heavily inspired by certain aspects of real world nations, they are very much fictional and not intended to reflect on real world cultures or peoples.
-Despite intending to create a fantasy world where I can take all the creative liberties I want, I've still been researching the hell out of things to get an accurate vibe for the era and regions. That's included an hours long deep dive into the history of dye and textiles, and I am now drowning in indigo factoids
-Anyway, Ramuwa's attire is intended to fit the height of european-esque fashions, with an emphasis on wealth, mostly to piss people off with maximum effect. Now, my first impulse on color choices was black and red, but I figured, "Nah, that's too vampy and unrealistic for the era and fashions. European aristocracy wore a lot of bright colors, I'm just biased by my own tastes." So, with a wealthy image in mind, I spent three hours researching the relative values and scarcity of fabric dyes in western europe circa 1600's-1700's, and sure enough, just to spite me specifically, it just so happens that the top most valuable colors were vivid red and deep black. So that's that. Ramuwa may be dressed like pirate dracula with a musketeer hat (cavalier hat -historically fashionable and extra af), but that's not my fault. (but it is interesting to note that black and red has become the classic aesthetic of rich villains in media, I feel like this finally explains why)
-The names of Zubair's cousins, Hakim and Jasur, mean wisdom and bravery respectively.
-Zubair's vessel is based on Baghlah ships, while the Reckoning is based on Spanish Galleons. I know a little more about ships than I do about textiles, but this is another thing that I ended up spending weeks researching. Most of what I learned is that it's really hard to find info in english on Baghlah, and that Galleons are obscenely huge and faster than something that size should be

A/N- I’m sorry for this chapter, but I’m not lol
Y/N and Jensen had been settled into their home in Austin for a few days. Everything had gone well after the little argument about her apartment, all that forgotten. She was in the kitchen drinking her morning coffee, looking over emails and trying to finish up the little details for the con they were leaving for in two days.
Other than her doctor’s appointment later that morning, and Jensen going to pick up the kids, this was the last thing on the to-do list. They could relax and enjoy the next couple of days with the kids and each other. She was still engrossed in her phone when he walked into the kitchen, pouring himself a cup of coffee and walking over to sit beside her, making her jump.
“Damn it, Jay. You’re always scaring me,” she groaned.
“It’s not my fault that you don’t pay attention to your surroundings,” he chuckled, leaning in to kiss her.
“Fair point. I’m trying to get the last of the con details ironed out before I leave, so we can just enjoy the next few days with the kids, and I won’t be distracted.”
“How’s that going?” he asked, sipping on his drink, laying his hand on her thigh with a light squeeze.
“One more email to send, and I’m done. Other than my appointment later, we’re all set to chill now,” she smiled up at him.
“And this is to have your birth control changed?”
"Not changed, per se, but replaced. I have the implant in my arm. It has to be replaced every three years, so I’m having it done before the con season.”
“Damn. Doesn’t that hurt?” he winced, thinking about what they had to do to get the implant in her arm.
“It’s not pleasant, but that’s what needs to be done,” she shrugged.
“Men have it so easy,” he huffed, thinking about everything he didn’t have to go through that women did.
“You got that right, Ackles,” she laughed.
“I’m sorry.”
“Why are you apologizing, Jay?” she asked curiously.
“It just sucks what you have to go through to not have a kid. I don’t like the thought of that thing in your arm hurting you.”
“It’s fine, babe. It’s really not that bad. It will be sore for a few days but a lot less painful than childbirth,” she giggled when he nodded his head in agreement.
“Pregnancy didn’t seem too fun, either. I remember Dee throwing up a lot and saying how bad her back, feet, and pretty much everything else hurt.”
“Yeah, doesn’t sound like a good time,” she agreed.
“Well, what time do you have to leave?”
“In about twenty minutes,” she said, glancing at the time on her phone.
“Okay. I’ll just wait on you to get back before I go get the kids, and you can go with me,” he said, then shook his head, “That’s if you’ll feel like going. It’s okay if you don’t.”
“I’ll be fine, Jay. It’s not like I’m having major surgery or anything,” she giggled, kissing him quickly before she stood.
“Fine. I worry about you, ya know?”
“I know you do, and that’s just one of the many reasons I love you,” she winked, kissing him once more, “I have to go get dressed. I’ll be back soon. I love you.”
“I love you too, honey. I’ll be here waiting when you get back.”
“I’m holding you to it,” she pointed at him with a smirk.
“I wouldn’t expect any less, my love,” he scoffed, rolling his eyes playfully.
“They’re going to get stuck in your head like that,” she yelled in a sing-song voice as she walked away.
“Go get ready and get the hell out of here, would ya?”
“I’m going, I’m going,” she cackled, Jensen joining her, not able to fight it anymore.
Y/N was lying on the uncomfortable table in the exam room waiting on the doctor. She’d already been checked in, peed in a cup, and all the things they make you go through at the gynecologist. Now it was a waiting game for the doctor to come in, confirm she’s not pregnant, and then take out the implant and insert the new one. She wanted to get it over with so she could get back home to Jensen, and they could go get the kids. She loved when they were there with them. It was always a great time laughing and playing. The knock at the door made her sit up, seeing her doctor walk in.
“Hey, doc. Let’s get this show on the road,” she laughed. She had a great relationship with her doctor and had known her for years.
“Uh, Y/N, I need you to have an ultrasound first,” Dr. Williams said with no hint of a smile on her face.
“Why? What’s wrong?” she asked, scared that she had an anomaly with her lab tests.
“Your pregnancy test came back positive.”
“What?! That’s impossible. It has to be a lab error. I’m not late coming in to have this replaced.”
“It’s a rare possibility, but not impossible. It’s not likely, but I want to do an ultrasound to make sure. If not, then we need to figure out what’s wrong with your hormones.”
“Then let’s do it. Don’t make me panic for no reason longer than I have to,” she grumbled.
“Y/N, there is a minimal chance that you’re pregnant. But, it’s almost a certainty that it will be ectopic. It’s so very rare to have an actual intrauterine implanting on the implant.”
“Well, if it’s an ectopic pregnancy, I need to get it taken care of ASAP. We leave in two days for the convention season.”
“Okay, well, let’s see what’s happening.”
Dr. Williams sat beside her, getting the wand and gel, squirting it on Y/N’s lower abdomen, and bringing the wand down to start scanning. Y/N held her breath as she watched her doctor’s face, looking for any sign on her facial features that something was wrong. Unfortunately, she had a superb poker face and wasn’t showing any emotion on her face as she continued to move the instrument around on Y/N’s stomach. After what seemed like an eternity, Dr. Williams turned to face her and sighed.
“Y/N, I’m sorry to tell you this, but you’re pregnant.”
“Okay, well, how quick can you remove it out of the tube? It’s not a major surgery, is it?”
“No, uh, it’s not ectopic, Y/N. It’s an actual intrauterine pregnancy. From the looks of it, you’re around nine weeks along.”
“No! That can’t be right. There’s no way!”
“I know it’s a shock. But, listen,” Dr. Williams said softly, hitting a button and a loud rhythmic sound filling the room, “That’s the baby’s heartbeat.”
It was like a tidal wave of feelings rushed over her. She was shocked into silence as she listened to her baby’s heart. Her baby. She never thought this would ever be an experience she would have, never thinking she wanted kids. But, now, hearing that beautiful sound, she’s never wanted anything so bad in her life. She realized she had never wanted kids because she had never loved a man like she loved Jensen, and that meant everything.
Tears slid down her cheeks as the doctor pointed out the baby’s heart on the screen. She didn’t know how she would break it to Jensen, but she knew that it would all be okay in the end. He loved her, and after the initial shock wore off, he would be happy too.
“Here,” the doctor handed her a few prints of the ultrasound, “Come back and see me in six weeks, so we can keep a check on the little one. Now, we have to get that implant out.”
Tumblr media
Y/N was a nervous wreck as she walked into the house. She knew she had to tell him, and she knew he would be shocked, but she hoped after a little while, he’d be okay. He had said on numerous occasions that he didn’t want any more kids, but sometimes life throws you a curveball, and you just have to go with it. He was sitting at the island in the kitchen, and she took a deep breath in preparation for the conversation they had to have. Her breath alerted him to her presence.
“Hey, honey. How’d it go?”
“Well, not as expected…,” she mumbled.
“What? What’s wrong, baby? Talk to me.”
“Jay, I don’t know how to say this, so I’m just going to say it bluntly,” she sighed, squaring her shoulders and looking him in the eye, “I’m pregnant.”
The silence was eerie as he stared at her as if he was waiting on her to say it was a joke. The longer he looked at her, she could see the realization set in on his face, but she wasn’t prepared for what was coming next.
“What the fuck, Y/N?!” he yelled, making her jump back, “How in the hell did this happen?!”
“Do you have to ask that question?” she huffed, “We had sex, Jay, and now I’m pregnant.”
“No shit! I’m not an idiot. I meant, how did you get pregnant when you were supposed to be on birth control?”
“Supposed to be? What are you trying to imply? That I lied about having the implant?” she replied angrily, pissed off that he would even imply something like that.
“That’s not what I said, damn it.”
“Sure sounds like that’s what you’re trying to say.”
“Don’t put words in my mouth, Y/N. You know what I meant. How did you get pregnant on birth control?!”
“I don’t know! It’s rare for it to happen. Nothing is one hundred percent effective, though. I know you’re in shock right now, so I’m not going to be upset at your reaction, but we have to talk about this.”
“What do you want me to say? I told you I don’t want more kids, Y/N!”
“I didn’t either, damn it!”
“Wait. Didn’t or don’t, two different meanings there…,” he glared at her, his emotions taking over completely.
“Didn’t….”
“Fuck, Y/N! I thought we agreed on this. No kids! Now you’re changing your mind? What the hell?”
“I heard the heartbeat, and…,” she began to speak, but he interrupted her.
“Heartbeat or not, I don’t want more kids! How much plainer do I have to be?”
“Well, too late for that now, huh?” she quipped, getting angrier by the minute.
“Yeah, I guess it is,” he growled, walking away to the bedroom.
“Where are you going? We’re still having a conversation!” she yelled at his back.
“Conversations over for now. I need to be alone for a while. And this stays between us.”
“Whatever,” she groaned, “I guess I’ll just sit here and wait on you to finish having this discussion.”
“Yeah, you do that,” he bit back, slamming the bedroom door behind him.
She sank down onto the stool at the island, hanging her head in her hands. She knew he would be shocked, but she didn’t expect him to have that reaction. He had never spoken to her like that in the sixteen years they had known each other, and it broke her heart. She would give him his alone time, but they had to finish having the conversation. She was pregnant, and there was no changing it.
She hadn’t realized how long she had been daydreaming when he walked back into the kitchen, walking past her and to the fridge to get water. She shook her head and looked away, and that’s when she noticed his overnight bag sitting on the living room floor.
“Where are you going? Aren’t you supposed to go get the kids?”
“No. With what’s happened, I don't think it’s a good idea for them to be here while we’re like this.”
“They’re going to be disappointed not to see you. So, if you aren’t getting the kids, what’s the overnight bag for?”
“I’m going to be seeing the kids. I’m going to go stay there with them until I leave for the con.”
“What? I tell you I’m pregnant, you scream and pick a fight with me, and now you’re going to spend the next two days at your ex-wife’s house? Wow,” she scoffed, his words cutting her to the bone.
“Don’t start. I need some time, and I want to see my kids. I love my kids more than anything, and I don’t want anything to get in the way of spending time with them before I’m gone again.”
“You can be a real asshole, you know that?” she hiccupped on the sob building in her throat.
“How’s that?” he huffed, crossing his arms.
“Nevermind. Just go. Spend the next few days at your ex-wife’s house,” she sniffled.
“Quit throwing that up! You knew she was my ex-wife when we got together, and she’s the mother of my kids, for fuck’s sake!”
“And I’m not?!” she shrieked, losing her patience with him, “Oh, I guess she counts because she’s the mother of the kids you actually want.”
“Y/N…,” he growled.
“You’re right. The conversation is over. Go. I’ll see you in Denver.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Y/N.”
“Jensen, I can still travel for quite a while. I’m fine.”
“I know that. I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to go because I need some time away.”
“Are you serious right now?” she whimpered, a tear betraying her and sliding down her cheek.
“I am. It will do us both some good to have time to think,” he sighed, walking over and picking up his bag.
“Okay…,” she agreed, dejected, no more fight left in her at the moment, her heart too broken.
“I’ll be back next week,” he said with a glance at her as he began walking to the door and stopped, “Bye, Y/N.”
The sound of the door closing was the proverbial straw. She sank to the floor in sobs. How had they been so loving and affectionate just this morning, but as soon as something big happened, he walked away. She pulled her knees to her chest as she continued to cry, silently deciding what needed to be done, and it hurt. It hurt so damn bad.
Tumblr media
Jensen had made it through the con, but barely. His mind wasn’t in it like usual as all he could think about was Y/N at home and pregnant. Jared and the others could tell something was off with him, but he had kept silent, not wanting to talk about it. Once on the plane, though, Jared wasn’t going to give up until he found out what was plaguing his best friend. He knew Jensen well enough that he could tell something significant was bothering him, and he wanted to get to the bottom of it.
“I’m going to ask you again what’s wrong, and this time, you’re going to tell me the truth,” Jared said, staring at Jensen until he gave in and decided to tell him.
“Fine, but this stays between us. No one else is to find out.”
“Okay, man. What’s going on?”
“Y/N’s pregnant,” he huffed, flopping back against his seat.
“Congratulations, dude!” Jared excitedly gasped, giving him a hug.
“No, not congratulations. You know I don’t want more kids. This isn’t good news.”
“Are you that dumb?”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Jensen asked hatefully, a little pissed Jared called him dumb.
“It means, how in the world are you going to sit here and pout like a little girl when the woman you love is going to have your baby?”
“I already have three kids. Unless you don’t remember,” he groaned, rolling his eyes.
“Yeah, you do. But not with her. Didn’t you consider what that might mean to her?”
“She said she didn’t want kids either, well, until she found out she was pregnant. Now, she’s changed her mind.”
“And what should that tell you?”
“I don’t know, Dr. Phil. What should it tell me?” he griped, starting to get upset again.
“It should show you that she wants to have a baby with the man she loves, and that’s you, you idjit,” Jared laughed, shaking his head at his friend.
“I know she loves me. But, Jared, man, I’ll be in my sixties when this kid graduates high school! I’m too damn old to be having another kid,” he sighed, wanting to end the conversation.
“Do you not realize that the twins aren’t even five yet? It’s not that much more time than it would have been before all your kids were grown, anyway. So, why make such a big deal about it? Is that why she didn’t come to the con? Because she wasn’t feeling well or something?”
“I guess you’ve got a point, man. I’ll talk to her when we get home. And, uh no, she didn’t come because I told her not to. I, uh, told her I needed time away to think.”
“Wow, how did she take that?”
“I don’t know. I left and went to Dee’s for a few days before I came to Denver,” he whispered, starting to feel ashamed at how he acted once he thought back on it.
“You did what?!” Jared asked, utterly shocked at what he heard, “Dude! Please tell me you didn’t make a big deal out of her being pregnant and then left her by herself for almost a week?”
“Shut up.”
“Oh, my God, you did! I bet she had a lot to say when you called her this weekend,” he chided, still not sure what to think about how his friend had reacted.
“I haven’t talked to her since I left.”
“Jay, buddy, you better get off this plane and go straight home and grovel at her feet. I’d be praying she’s still there if I was you.”
“Damn, man. Thanks for the support,” Jensen grumbled.
“I am supporting you! I’m telling you to go fix all this so you don’t lose the best thing that’s happened to you since Dee.”
“Okay, okay. Thanks, dude. Seriously, thinking back, I was an asshole.”
“Maybe a little bit,” Jared chuckled.
Jensen rushed home as soon as the plane landed. He knew he had a lot of begging to do to get her to forgive him. Jared had made him realize that one more kid wasn’t that big of a deal. Not with his youngest being only five years old. It wasn’t like all his kids were grown and now was starting over with a baby.
Once he parked his car in the garage, he flung open the door, in a hurry to get inside and see her. Even though he hadn’t spoken to her since he left, he missed her terribly. Even when they were fighting about her having a baby, he never doubted the love he had for her. He wished he could take it all back, but all he could do now was ask her forgiveness. He didn’t see her in the living room or kitchen, so he ran for the bedroom, but all he saw when he opened the door was an empty room, a piece of paper on the bed.
Jensen,
I’ve had time to think about all of this, and I’m doing what I need to do for the baby and me. I’ve sat here and tried to think of every possible reason why you would talk to me like you did, but I can’t think of anything other than you don’t want our child, and that’s where the problem lies. I’m having this baby, Jay, but I’ll do it alone. Just like you left me when I needed you the most. I was in a relationship with the love of my life, and I’d never felt so alone as I have the last few days. I’ve never been as heartbroken as I was when you left me here in tears. That’s not what a partner does. They are supposed to be here for you no matter what, but I guess I found your hard line. Your key is on the kitchen island, and you can drop my key off with the apartment manager, as I don’t live there anymore. Please don’t look for where I’m at now. Let me go, and let me move on. I’ll love you until the end of my days, Jay, but I can’t stay and have you look at me like I ruined your life like you did before you walked out. And did you notice that you said goodbye and not that you loved me? Well, I did.  I’m sorry that it had to end like this, but it’s for the best.
Y/N
Jensen was in tears, having read the letter three times. He couldn’t believe that she had left and refused to tell him where she had gone. He had really fucked it all up. Not only had he lost the woman he loved more than anything, she took their unborn child with her just when he had accepted that he would have another baby. Hell, he had actually started to get excited about it, and now, it was all gone. All because he ran instead of staying and dealing with it. Guess Dean Winchester really was a part of him, and now he was alone and devastated. He grabbed his phone, dialing Jared and waiting on him to answer. When he did, Jensen could only say one thing through his tears.
“You were right, man. I fucked up. She’s gone.”
