I need help with a thing I think the costumers, cosplayers, and disability bloggers might be able to help with!

Does anyone know of a corset that focuses pressure on the front and back of your torso? I have slipping rib syndrome and walking often pulls my ribs more out of place. I'd love to be able to find something that supports and encourages them to stay in a little more!

I've had many corsets, I know how to size and season them and all. I've just found that the more modern corset styles (and the more femme ones) tend to encourage my ribs to slip even more. Basically the corset pressure goes into my side and *up* because it wants to make the hourglass shape, which shoves my ribs up under the layer in front of them.

Any help would be massively appreciated!!

I said I wanted the MFA to be normal about corsets, not rebrand Corsets Bad into Corsets Good Because Women Suffering For Beauty (which is totally what corsets do guys!!!) Means We're Strong

the sitters in the paintings don't look elegant and comfortable because they're. I don't know. badass enough to handle horrible evil corsets. they look comfortable because they either are, or they're putting up with discomfort temporarily to be high-fashion in their Sargent portraits and they get to change into everyday clothes relatively soon

also "corsets aren't supposed to be uncomfortable" to "corsets are so 'formidable' that women had to be incredibly strong to wear them" is a weird contradiction

I just. I never thought I'd encounter a hot new take that corsets were Evil and that's Good, Actually

was researching navy uniforms & i'm now chief advocate for the new sequence uniform to include corsets. historically accurate, of course😌

Regarding corsets, I was in a car accident in 2019 and while I'm doing okay now, sometimes doing repetitive tasks like dishes and laundry where it's a lot of use of my lower back muscles, causes my lower back to spasm so painfully that I have to lay down flat on my back until the muscles relax. Do corsets minimize that sort of thing? Do you have any recommendations by chance?

OH MAN. well our back pains are in different Genres, but it's similar in the sense that, yeah, those specific tasks, the ones where you Lean Over Slightly, are brutal. I definitely find that wearing a corset for tasks like that gives me reinforcement. The pressure helps, and the corset boning makes me adapt the way I move, forcing me into a better posture if I need to lean over or whatever. I did WANT a corset specifically though, not JUST for back support but also bc I've always wanted a corset lol. If you want one purely for practical purposes, you should try a back brace first. It won't snatch you, but wearing it while you do stuff around the house might still help.
