How are you today? I’m doing okay. My classmates in my least favorite class, Newspaper Layout and Design, have been a big pain in my ass and I’ve been carrying the entire class on my back because no one has the initiative to start giving a fuck about the requirements (I’d want to not give a fuck either, but someone has to and I’m probably the most grade-conscious person in that class) – but it’s a Friday and I’m having amazing coffee right now so it balances out. Do you have mean comments that replay in your head and haunt you? Not really. Some days I’ll remember the one hate comment I got on my ask.fm which led me to delete my account altogether, but it doesn’t bother me because I kinda proved that person wrong eventually.
For context, they told me I should stop wishing to be in UP so bad and to actually pass the entrance exam first before I’m allowed to talk about how much the university means to me. Joke’s on them – I passed the UPCAT not long after. Doesn’t mean I’d forgot the demotivating message, though.
^If so, do you know why that is? I always want to please people and thrive on compliments, so I’m bound to remember every single bad thing anyone tells me. What are you currently worried about, if anything? I’m worried about my deadlines for my Layout class. The requirements are a group effort, and so long as my classmates don’t start moving, I can’t really pass my parts anyway because I have to wait on them. UGH Did you go Black Friday shopping this past Black Friday? Pls stop asking me first-world references
^If so, what was the best deal you got? Have you ever been Black Friday shopping? What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? Do you wear a watch every day? No. Wearing them always makes me feel like there is something on my wrist, and that bugs me haha.
Pineapple or pepperoni? I don’t like either. All-cheese pizzas are my favorite. What food makes you feel nauseous? Not to say that it makes me feel like vomiting or dizzy, but I was never really a big fan of blue cheese. I can handle it on my pizza and sometimes its flavor jibes well with the other cheeses, but the taste always sticks out so I’m not particularly obsessed with it. Have you ever seen a spirit? No. When you have your own house someday, what color Christmas tree do you want and how will you decorate it? I want it traditional, so I’m going with green. It’s gonna have all sorts of decor like baubles, snowflakes, tinsel, leaves, etc. My family has always made an effort to make our trees look super nice and detailed and I wanna pass that on when I have my own place and maybe even kids down the road. Name 3 youtube channels you've been loving lately. HiHo Kids, Mankalor, and Moon Jeongwon’s vlogging channel. Do you have a youtube channel? I do but it’s only so that YouTube can tailor my homepage to what I’m into at the moment, and so that I can like/dislike videos haha. I don’t post my own content. ^If so, does your family approve? ...I don’t think they should have an opinion about me owning a YouTube account. But in any case, they don’t really mind. What do you think about the new "for kids" or "not for kids" rules? Like, parental control? I guess it’s a good thing. Kids have always had very makulit hands and end up seeing stuff they’re not supposed to. Makulit is a Filipino word that defies translation, but I guess the closest thing to it is either mischievous or restless.
Case in point: Back when I was in high school, I was working at one of the library computers when these Grade 1 kids sat at the computer beside me. They were searching images of the movie Frozen and it was all normal for a bit, but they scrolled too far down and eventually they landed at this very questionable manip of Elsa and Anna doing some stuff that kids that age definitely shouldn’t be seeing. ^ Do they affect you? No. I’m neither a kid nor a parent. What is the most disgusting thing you have ever eaten? [slight trigger warning for the vegans!!! Sorry, Filipino cuisine can sometimes be a lot to take for non-Filipinos]  I’m super adventurous when it comes to food so I haven’t found anything I’ve tried disgusting. I don’t particularly like the flavor of bopis (pork/beef lungs and heart) and pinapaitan (goat and ox innards meat flavored with bile, tamarind and chillies), but I don’t find them disgusting, and I’d still eat them if that was served at a family party.
What food is so disgusting you could absolutely never eat it? Dog/cat meat. Do you like sushi? Love sushi. What color was the last sweater you wore? Gray. Name 3 material items on your wish list right now. Nintendo Switch, a new pair of shoes (wow I really am a grown-up), and cash. Are you planning on doing Vlogmas (for youtube) this year? No. Zoella’s the only person I know who still does lmao Have you ever done Vlogmas before? No. Have you ever made money off of youtube? Omg no Are you happy that the year is coming to an end? SO HAPPY. 2019 felt like it was three fucking years long. Have you ever bought a designer purse? I haven’t bought any with my own money. Do people tell you that you look sick when you wear a certain color? No? ^If yes, what color? Do you consider yourself creative? Not at all. ....outgoing? Kinda. It depends on the situation. If I’m meant to be doing something I like or hang out with people I know, I can be very outgoing; but if it’s an unfamiliar situation, I tend to be more shy and let other people lead the way. ....free-spirited? I don’t think I’d call myself that. ....shy? Yep, at first. ....socially awkward? It’s a hit or miss. Sometimes I’m great with socializing; other times I just miss the mark. Do you often feel alone? Mostly during the Christmas season. Otherwise it’s an on-off thing for me, but the loneliness is for the most part turned off. What could be the theme song to your life? I never know what to answer in questions like this. My life has had a lot of phases and it’s hard to sum it all up into a single song. List three new songs you've discovered this year that you like a lot. I Saw You In A Dream by The Japanese House, the Summer section of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons (thanks, Portrait of a Lady on Fire), and Joji’s Dancing in the Dark. If you could win a shopping spree in any store, what would it be? Fully Booked. Do you wear jewelry often? Very seldom. List 10 of your favorite girl names. I list them on surveys all the tiiiiiimeeeeeeeee. Uhh Olivia, Mia, Arden, Harper, Juliana/Julia, Isabella, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Lily, Emilia. I’m feeling the name Eloise tonight too, so let’s throw that one in as a runner-up. List 10 of your favorite boy names. Miguel, Joaquin, Javier, Jacob, Mason, Noah, Liam, Seth, Leon, Luis. Andres is also good, so I’m putting that in even though it’s name 11. List 10 girl names (or up to 10) that you don't really care for. That’s so many and possibly offensive :((((( I’ll just go with boomer names like Sally, Linda, Agnes (sorry to my Lola, who’s named Agnes), Karen, Pamela, Susan, Brenda...and maybe more common ones like Angela, Marie, Sam. List up to 10 boy names that you don't really care for. Not a big fan of boy names in general, but ones I don’t particularly like nor dislike are names like John, George, William (lmao just naming all the royals now I see LOL), Benedict, Jeffrey, Donald, Michael, Daniel, Drew, Mark. How old were you when you found out Santa wasn't real? Five. I didn’t find out; I just put the clues together. Do you own a Polaroid camera? Nope. I want one though. ^If so, what color is it? List one past regret. The one dumb thing I did in one of my classes where I forgot to submit something on time, and I had to make do with a late submission, which would already have deductions. Do you own Converse, and if so, what color? i used to; they were red. I stopped wearing them after a bit though so my mom threw them out. We have white Chucks now – my sister brings them with her in her dorm but when she’s home, I’d borrow it sometimes. What color was your senior prom dress? Let’s plz avoid talking about the stuff we purposely want to forget Are you colorblind? No. Name the people you know who are colorblind. Nobody, other than the colorblind folk on Twitter/Tiktok who make wholesome videos separating different colors of Skittles or M&Ms heh. What's one pet peeve of yours? People who DRIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF TWO LANES YO WHAT’S UP WITH Y’ALL Would you ever consider a career in writing? Sure, I’m kinda headed that way anyway. What was the first thing you wanted to be when you grew up? Astronaut. What was your first favorite color? Purple. What is your favorite color now? Pink or black. Do you know a lot of people with the same middle name as you? Yeah, Isabelle is very common. But where I live it’s usually spelled Isabel or Ysabel. Do you like the name Brynn? Not really. It sounds very 2010ish, wherein people would give their kids double-N’s like Kaitlynn, Rylinn, Brooklynn, Ashlynn and I was never a big fan of that trend (except for Finn, Flynn, and Quinn, which I find cute). List five names you hate the spelling of. Literally those 4 names I just mentioned. Oh and in the Philippines, there’s this trend of putting H’s on otherwise normal names, e.g. Jhulia, Mhae, Ghabriella, Mhark...it’s common in the lower classes so I don’t judge, but like it’s just not really not my taste lmao. Do you watch Niki and Gabi on youtube? No. Do you watch Brooklyn and Bailey? No. ....Bethany Mota? No. But I did see her once when YouTube held a FanFest here in Manila and she was part of the lineup. ......Gillian Bower? ....LaurDIY? .....Family Fizz? ....Chronically Jaquie? No to literally all of those. Have you ever purchased a youtuber's merch? No they are always way too expensive lol ^If so, what did you buy?

AHS: CULT Season 7, Episode 1 Election Night [unpublished review]
Tumblr media
Tuesday, September 5th, 2017, just days before Stephen King’s IT hit theatres worldwide, the anticipated clown-centred new season of Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk’s anthology series, American Horror Story, premiered its seventh season, Cult, on FX.
The past six seasons of American Horror Story (AHS) have catapulted viewers into the depths of the horror genre; every season tells a different story at a different time with different characters and themes. The popular show features returning and seasoned actors like Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson and Kathy Bates, as well as guest stars like Gabourey Sidibe, Lady Gaga and Cuba Gooding Jr.
Countless characters have left lasting impressions on AHS and every fan has their favourite: Lana Winters of Asylum (Season 2), Fiona Goode of Coven (Season 3), Elsa Mars or Twisty the Clown of Freakshow (Season 4), The Countess of Hotel (Season 5), or The Butcher of Roanoke (Season 6). The sinister list goes on and on.
American Horror Story may stand alone but it is no stranger to acclaim as it’s been nominated for an impressive 300+ awards. Jessica Lange and Lady Gaga both won Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television at the 2012 and 2016 Golden Globe Awards for Murder House and Hotel. The Primetime Emmy’s have awarded the show as well.
Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have managed to garner a cult following. Pun intended. Together, they’ve created “Teen TV” juggernauts like Glee and Scream Queens, and are the executive producers of the critically acclaimed first season of American Crime Story: The People VS. O.J. Simpson, starring AHS alumni, Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr. The series sweeped award shows and the second season (The Assassination of Gianni Versace, starring Penelope Cruz and Ricky Martin) is slated to air in the early months of 2018. Last but not least, who can forget the return of Jessica Lange (alongside Susan Sarandon) earlier this year in Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Bette & Joan. The debut season of another anthology series (also produced by Brad Pitt) reimagines the tensions between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford on the set of the movie What Ever Happened to Mary Jane? in 1962. Murphy and Falchuk are clear forces to be reckoned with when it comes genre television. When they hit, they hit big.
So when the countdown to Season 7’s premiere was over, fans erupted. Some loved it, some hated it, and some threatened to boycott it because of an irrational fear of tiny holes. Yes, tiny holes. The unique fear is called trypophobia: an intense fear, distress or anxiety caused by irregular patterns or clusters of small holes or bumps. The term is believed to have been coined in 2005 on an online forum and AHS has decided to showcase its abilities to make your skin crawl in a way we’ve never seen before. Hence the trigger warnings. Seriously, people are freaking out!
Tumblr media
The title of this premiere episode is Election Night and the opening scene takes viewers back to the night of November 8, 2016, flashing some of the most viral and ludicrous presidential campaign snippets of Hillary Clinton versus Donald Trump, one after the other.
“I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters,” an actual clip of Donald Trump flashes, reminding viewers how screwed the United States is with this clown in office. It’s clear that AHS is using the real-life 2016 election as the focus for this year’s horror tale, set in Michigan.
“FUCK YOU WORLD! USA! USA! USA!”
Kai Anderson (played by AHS heavy-weight, Evan Peters) shouts this as the 45th president of the United States of America is announced. Kai is a blue-haired loner celebrating Trump’s win in a dingy basement, dry-humping his big screen TV like a fanatic. “Freedom!” he yells, and his glee for Trump’s victory is a tough pill to swallow.
Evan Peters is a returning AHS all-star and his acting chops shine brighter from season to season. In the opening of this new season, Cult, Peters grips us from the get-go, and throughout the hour-long first episode, we begin to see why his character is so happy with Donald Trump’s victory.
Kai emulates the far-right narrative with precision. Scenes throughout the premiere (where he blatantly disrespects women and Mexicans) reveal a very real and twisted perception that men are superior to women and that “white is right.” Kai is indicative of what Trump spews to the public, and what makes it so uncomfortable to watch is that this series is a lot more than a just a scary TV show now. It’s about our social and political climate, today. This is art is imitating life, in real time.
Kai is maniacal from the opening scene where - in celebration of Trump’s victory - Kai makes a cheeto smoothie, rubbing the orange paste all over his face, mirroring Trump’s infamously orange glow. His mannerisms are reminiscent of the legendary comic villain, The Joker, with his creepy stare and smudged cheeto “face paint”. Perhaps the sub-theme of coulrophobia (fear of clowns) influenced a nod to the king of crime. After all, The Joker is one of the ultimate clown villains of the last century. It is rumoured that DC Comics is looking to solidify Leonardo DiCaprio as The Joker in an upcoming origin story set in the 1980’s. If that doesn't work out, Evan Peters would be perfect!
Tumblr media
Across town, we see Ally Mayfair-Richards (Sarah Paulson), and her wife, Ivy (Alison Pill), in what reads as a parody of a wealthy, white, lesbian couple. They’re hosting a viewing party with their neighbours, a liberal heterosexual couple, Mr. and Mrs. Tom and Marylin Chang (Tim Kang and Nanrissa Lee). When Trump is announced president, Ally has the complete opposite reaction from Kai Anderson, and that familiar AHS Sarah Paulson shriek fans grew to love in Asylum and Roanoke tears through her living room, directed at the flatscreen television. She’s absolutely mortified, as many of us were that night, but the results trigger Ally in a way that leaves her out of breath and panicked. Soon afterwards, we understand why.
Ally suffers from multiple phobias, high anxiety, and hallucinations. “Ever since the election, it’s been getting worse,” she says to her therapist, Dr. Rudy Vincent (Cheyenne Jackson).
“The coulrophobia?” He asks.
“Yes. The clowns...” she trails off, “but also,” she continues, “confined spaces, and blood... Particles in the air, the dark, that coral thing that's been staring at me since I came in here!” Ally appears to be dizzy. Nauseas even.
“You have a fear of coral?” Dr. Vincent asks.
“No. I-I… Its the holes,” she takes a deep breath, “it’s repulsive!”
Ally tells Dr. Vincent that coping with the election results has triggered all of her old phobias. It’s almost as if AHS is mocking the right-winged notion that those on the left are automatically fragile and plagued with political correctness, but by bringing these unconventional yet very real phobias to the table, we see that this season’s theme isn’t just about the current events in American politics, clowns, or tiny holes. No, this season is about the fear in politics and what it can do to people on both ends of the political pendulum. Ally Mayfair-Richards’ character shows us how these conditions and phobias can provoke mental health breakdowns with a raw and in-your-face delivery.
Tumblr media
The premiere also marks the return of Freakshow’s Twisty the Clown, but only as an imagined character in “The Twisty Chronicles” comic book. Oz Mayfair-Richards (Cooper Dodson), Ally and Ivy’s son, secretly admires the clown’s comics and he is nothing more than a fictional character in Cult. So far, anyway. The gruesome Twisty scene unfolds, reminiscent of the clown’s murderous debut in Season 4, and we think we’ve seen the actual return of Twisty until Ally interrupts and it’s realized that this was just a scene in Oz’s comic book. Since Ally has an irrational fear of clowns, the cover illustration of the savage Twisty prompts her to have a full-on panic attack. If you have any inclination of what Twisty looks like, it's understandable for a coulrophobe to freak out. Twisty is what nightmares are made of and fans are patiently awaiting the mayhem Twisty might be getting up to this season. Another character that’s sparking intrigue is Winter Anderson (Billie Lourd), Kai Anderson’s younger sister. In the beginning of the episode, when Kai covers his face in the cheeto mask, he storms into his younger sister’s room and jumps on her bed, staring her down as CNN announces that Hillary Clinton will not be speaking after conceding to Donald Trump. She looks up from her laptop into her brother’s eyes, his orange face smudged with tension, and begins yelling at him to get out, hitting him repeatedly. He starts laughing at her screaming, uncovered by the blows. She's lost some sort of bet and now she has to follow through with some elaborate scheme after admitting that children are her worst fear. [Unfinished first rough draft]

Lucy Meets the Law
S5;E19 ~ February 13, 1967
Tumblr media
Synopsis
Lucy thinks she's being arrested for littering when she is actually being mistaken for a red-haired jewel thief.
Regular Cast
Lucille Ball (Lucy Carmichael), Gale Gordon (Theodore J. Mooney), Mary Jane Croft (Mary Jane Lewis)
Roy Roberts (Mr. Cheever) does not appear in this episode.
Guest Cast
Tumblr media
Claude Akins (Lieutenant Finch) appeared as himself (playing a giant native) in “Desert Island” (ILL S6;E8). He is perhaps best remembered for playing Sheriff Lobo in “B.J. And the Bear” (1978-79) and its sequel “The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo” (1979-81). Akins died in 1994.
Tumblr media
Iris Adrian (Hard Head Hogan) appeared on Broadway in the 1930s and was a Ziegfeld girl. In Hollywood she did more than 160 films. This is her only appearance with Lucille Ball.
Hard Head is a bouncer in a beer hall. She is in jail for assault and battery.
Ken Lynch (Officer Peters, below left) started playing policemen on TV in 1950 and continued to do so for much of his career. This is his only appearance with Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
Joseph Perry (Officer Miller, above right) started his screen acting career in 1956. His final credit was playing Nemo for seven episodes of “Everybody Loves Raymond” in 1999. He died the following year. This is his only appearance with Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
Byron Foulger (Mr. Trindle) had played the leader of the Friends of the Friendless in “Lucy’s Last Birthday” (ILL S2;E25). He previously appeared on “The Lucy Show” in “My Fair Lucy” (S3;E20).
Mr. Trindle is the proprietor of the jewelry store that was robbed.
Tumblr media
Jody Gilbert (Matron aka ‘Tinkerbell’) had appeared with Lucille Ball and Gale Gordon on the 1952 special “Stars in the Eye” celebrating the opening of CBS's new Television City studios. She was a regular on the CBS series “Life With Luigi”. She will also appear in two episodes of “Here's Lucy,” in one of which she also plays a prison matron.
Tumblr media
Two passersby, the other women in the line-up, and the actual red-haired jewel thief (above) are all uncredited. Interestingly, Hazel Pierce, who was Lucy's stand-in and frequent day player, is not in this episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some video releases title this episode "A Case of Mistaken Identity." This is one of more than 30 episodes of “The Lucy Show” that have fallen out of copyright protection and are in the public domain, resulting in its appearance on many inexpensive video and DVD releases.
Tumblr media
There was no new “Lucy Show” episode on Monday, February 6, 1967. Instead, CBS showed a repeat of “Lucy Gets Caught Up in the Draft” (S5;E9).
Tumblr media
The final draft of the script was dated December 27, 1966. The above copy belonged to Julian Davidson, “The Lucy Show” music coordinator. The episode was filmed January 6, 1967, the first to be filmed after the holidays.
Tumblr media
This was the first and only episode written by Alan J. Levitt. It was also his first script for television. He went on to write for “Maude” (1972-74) and one of Lucille Ball's favorite sitcoms “Three's Company” (1977-78). Levitt shows a firm grasp of writing farce, balancing Lucy's belief that she has been arrested for littering, with the audience's knowledge that she is believed to be a jewel thief, using cleverly worded dialogue that allows both Lucy and police to have a conversation without giving away the misconception.
Tumblr media
Mary Jane tells Lucy that littering is against the “Keep America Beautiful” Campaign. ‘Keep America Beautiful’ was founded in 1953 by a consortium of nonprofit organizations, government agencies, concerned individuals, and American businesses (including original “I Love Lucy” sponsor Philip Morris). ‘Keep America Beautiful’ joined with the Ad Council in 1961 to dramatize the idea that every individual must help protect against the effects litter has on the environment. These included the popular 1963 television campaign "Every Litter Bit Hurts" and the character ‘Susan Spotless’ in 1964. The organization is still active today.
Tumblr media
In order not to implicate her friend, Lucy tells the policemen that Mary Jane is the name of her cat. She says she likes to call the cat up and say “What's new, pussycat?” What's New Pussycat was the name of a hit film of 1965 written by Woody Allen. Its title song was nominated for an Oscar and was a big hit for Tom Jones.
Tumblr media
When thrown in the cell with a growling Hard Head, Lucy says she doesn't feel very welcome. The Matron remarks that “You're as welcome as the flowers in May.”  “Welcome as the Flowers in May” was a song written by Anne Young round 1903.
Trying to be tough, Lucy tells Hard Head Hogan her 'handle' is “Steel Knuckles Carmichael” but her friends call her “Knuck.” Hogan continually gets the name wrong, calling her ‘Muck’ and ‘Cluck.’
Tumblr media
Mr. Trindle can't positively identify the jewel thief in a line up of red headed women. He says he didn't anticipate so many red heads. Lt. Finch replies “What did you figure on?  A bunch of Yul Brynners?”
Tumblr media
Yul Brynner (1920-85) was an actor known for his bald head. He was mentioned on “I Love Lucy” several times, generally comparing him with Fred, who was nearly bald himself. At the time of filming, Brynner had just been seen in The Return of the Magnificent Seven, a sequel to 1960's hit The Magnificent Seven, in which he also appeared.
Tumblr media
Finch says the women in the line up would make Ma Barker look like a camp fire girl. This is the second episode in a row to mention Ma Barker. Kate Barker (1873–1935) was the mother of several criminals who ran the Barker gang. She traveled with her sons during their criminal careers. Barker was also mentioned in “Lucy and the Great Bank Robbery” (S3;E5) and “Lucy Puts Main Street on the Map” (S5;E18). Ma Barker was parodied as Ma Parker in a 1970 episode of “Here’s Lucy” (above) played by Carole Cook.
Entering the action late in the episode to vouch for Lucy, Gale Gordon gets a smattering of entrance applause from the studio audience.
Callbacks!
Tumblr media
Although never incarcerated before, Lucy Carmichael's previous brushes with the law include: “Lucy and the Runaway Butterfly” (S1;E29), “Lucy is Her Own Lawyer” (S2;E23), “Lucy the Meter Maid” (S3;E7) and “Lucy Makes a Pinch” (S3;E8).
Tumblr media
Behind Bars! Lucy Ricardo was arrested and in jail in several episodes: “New Neighbors” (S1;E21) in New York City, “Tennessee Bound” (ILL S4;E14) in Bent Fork, and “Lucy Takes a Cruise To Havana” (1957) in Havana. Lucy also comes very close to going to jail in “Ricky and Fred art TV Fans” (ILL S2;E30) for stealing change from a cash register, and in “Paris at Last” (ILL S5;E18) for forging Francs!
Tumblr media
More Mistaken Identity! In “Ricky and Fred are TV Fans” (ILL S2;E30) Lucy Ricardo is mistaken for jewel thief ‘Sticky Fingers Sal’, and hauled down for questioning, just as Lucy Carmichael is here.
Fast Forward!
Tumblr media
Lucy Carter voluntarily goes to jail in a 1973 episode of “Here's Lucy” that also features Gale Gordon and Jody Gilbert as a Matron. This time her cellmate is Mumsie Westcott, played by Elsa Lanchester, who may (or may not) have been criminal hatchet murderess Eleanor Holmby when Lucy and Ethel go “Off to Florida” (ILL S6;E6).
Tumblr media
Lucy Carter also got her mug shot taken in “The Case of the Reckless Wheelchair Drive” (HL S5;E6). Again, she makes her ‘criminal face’ for the camera.
Tumblr media
Intentional mistaken identity is behind “Lucy Carter Meets Lucille Ball” (HL S6;E22) where a look-alike contest brings out several Lucy doppelgangers, including Lucille Ball herself!
Tumblr media
“Lucy Meets the Law” rates 4 Paper Hearts out of 5
Tumblr media
This woman looks a bit like Lucille Ball!  Also, the book’s former owner’s initials are “LR” - Lucy Ricardo!
