Kirishima: Hey, there's a lot of different ingredients in here.
Kirishima: ...
Kaname: Koya-kun, you left the fridge open.
Kirishima: Oof, my bad. Gotta be more careful next time. Zoned out coz of the hunger, y'know.
Kirishima: Since that's how it is, I got no choice but to cook food myself!
Kaname: Eh, could you even though?
Kirishima: Don't judge me yet! I've been practicing what Miyase has taught me from time to time. It'll be fine.
Kirishima: What I could use now is shrimp, bean sprouts, edamame... oh, and I'm craving meat - gotta have that too.
Kaname: If it's meat you want, there should be some from last night's leftovers. You okay with that?
Kirishima: All right, we got meat!
Kirishima: Oh yeah, gotta have eggs! Most stuff taste better when you have 'em mixed in.
Kirishima: For now, we throw 'em all in a bowl, and...
Kujo: What are you making?
Kaname: ...an original dish.
Kirishima: Haha, we're just randomly mixing whatever's in the fridge tho.
Kujo: A dish without a name, huh. Interesting. Allow me to help.
Kirishima: Then, please prepare the rice, Kujo-san. This right here is the type that you can just nuke in the microwave to fluff it up.
Kujo: Understood.
Kaname: What about the seasonings?
Kirishima: It already looks good as is, but... I could add something.
Kaname: You can't go wrong with sesame seeds and salt, I think.
Kirishima: Yo, sounds great.
Kujo: Maybe adding some Sweet Mango Chutney would make it taste better. As the name implies, it's mangoes boiled into jam.
Kirishima: Mango's great! Let's try adding a little bit of that.
Kaname: (I wonder if it'll be okay...)
Kirishima: While I'm at it, add some lemon juice too... Like so! Once they're all mixed, into the frying pan they go.
*sizzle*
Kaname: Oh, that surprisingly smells good.
Kujo: I have a feeling that this will be a masterpiece.
Kirishima: This sort of thing tastes best when you let it simmer at medium heat.
Kirishima: ...okay, that should do it.
Kaname: It'll probably taste better with mayonnaise.
Kirishima: That's what I'm thinkin'!
Kirishima: Mmmm! This is hella tasty!
Kaname: It feels nice and fluffy.
Kujo: Makes me want to drink wine.
Kirishima: Hey, we might have the talent for cooking, don't we? Gotta let Miyase try this out!
-- A few days later --
Kirishima & Kaname: ...
Kirishima: Why!? Why doesn't it taste like the one we cooked before?
Kaname: We really didn't think about the measurements and went about it pretty randomly. Maybe that flavor was a one-time thing.
Miyase: It is also delicious today.
Kirishima: No, it tasted way better before! Trust me!
Miyase: Yes, of course. I believe you.
Miyase: Miracles are bound to happen again one day. That's what cooking is all about.

After this, they would occasionally find themselves in the kitchen, with the belief that another miracle would happen someday.

Kyosuke: I don’t mind putting everything I have onto the line if that’s what I have to do to make you choose me!
Kyosuke’s dignified voice rang out from the stage he stood upon.
I couldn’t help but be moved by the sad gaze and heart-wrenching cry he had just let out.
(I can’t bear to tear my eyes away from this development as it plays out…)
The play that he had invited me to, was one of romance.
And the role that Kyosuke was playing was that of a man, caught between two conflicting families.
Female Actor: But, but I’m…!
Kyosuke: …We’ve been blessed with a moonless night tonight. I’m sure that’ll shield us from unwanted eyes.
He pulled the girl in, seeing as how she was unwilling to take his proffered hand.
Ran: !
Her body was completely encased by his, effectively hidden from sight.
(I know that this is just a performance. I’m aware of it, but still…)
I repeated the mantra in my head, but that still didn’t seem to help the stab of pain I felt deep in my heart at the sight.
They both ran together, hand-in-hand, and the scene changed by the time I noticed.

Ran: The play was really, really, great!
I was invited into the Dressing Room after the play had ended.
Ran: It was so enthralling that I couldn’t bear to tear my eyes from it since I didn’t know what was going to happen next throughout the entire play…
Ran: I even felt nervous for the character during the scene where he confronted his best friend atop a cliff!
Kyosuke: Thanks. I’m glad to see that you enjoyed the show.
Kyosuke: I can’t help but feel truly elated that someone enjoyed it since I’ve been practising for this for a long time now.
Ran: …Is it on a different calibre than that of Movies and Dramas?
Kyosuke: I suppose you can say that. A play’s a one-shot game and you can’t really pull the wool on the eyes of others.
Ran: A one-shot thing…right, there was that scene where they ran off together.
The memory of the actress being in close contact with him flashed across my mind as I spoke.
The complex feelings I had felt back then welled back up in my heart, despite how much I had tried to suppress and forget them earlier.
Ran: …That was kinda sexy, and cool too.
I gave him a general impression of what I felt about that scene as I tried to mask the slight hurt I felt.
Kyosuke: Ahh, that scene?
Kyosuke: “We’ve been blessed with a moonless night tonight. I’m sure that’ll shield us from unwanted eyes.”
Ran: !
He recited the lines and hugged me close.
Kyosuke: “No eyes will be on us now. Now, let us run away.”
(H-His hand’s circling my back!)
He hugged me tightly to him, just as he did to the actress on stage earlier.
I couldn’t stop the thundering of my heartbeat as it raced along its own merry tune despite knowing that I had unwittingly been put into the shoes of the actress that played his lover.
Kyosuke: “If you’re still unwilling to let me hear your answer, then…”
Ran: ……!
I had just moved to look slightly up at him when he descended, up close, where I could feel his breath on my skin.
(Is he going to just-)
Right when my racing heartbeat had finally reached the crescendo...
Kyosuke: Okay, and here ends the eloping scene.
He withdrew the hand he had curled around my back and greeted me with a smile on his face.
It was different from the one he had shown on the stage, no, this smile was one of a devil in disguise. The usual one he had on.
Ran: You…
Kyosuke: I?
Ran: You really surprised me there!
I plopped down onto the sofa shakily before taking in a deep breath.
I didn’t even know when I had held my breath, in the middle of all that had just transpired.
Ran: Really, it was just all so sudden…
Kyosuke: You were the one who said that the scene was sexy and cool.
Kyosuke: So I thought that I’d show it to you again by re-enacting it before you.
Ran: Showing me and involving me in the act are two totally different things!
I took a couple of deep breaths to steady myself and settle my flighty nerves.
(And the lines he recited…)
(I’m pretty sure it was way more passionate than when he said it during the play…)
Glancing at him didn’t solve the issue either, for I couldn’t grasp his true intentions.
(I’m sure that it’s just my imagination.)
I fanned my flaming cheeks as I convinced myself so, repeating the new mantra in my head.

A beautiful craft tea with the scent of jasmine arrived at my home addressed to Rei-san and I.
The sender was a man who was smoking a sweet-flavored cigarette in a city that smelled like star anise.
[MIYASE]: “There was also a message card in it. Here, this is it.”
I showed Rei-san the violet card.
『How are you?
I always wish for the happiness of my beloved family.
With love.』
[REI]: “Family……, fufu. I'm happy.”
When I saw Rei-san smile broadly, a flame broke out around the center of my chest.
I didn't react like that because of the gift from the person who’s like a brother,
but because I recently remembered the existence of a man trying to approach her.
[MIYASE]: “Let's drink the tea. I also made delicious fruit cakes.”
[REI]: “Yay! Since dating Go-san, I’m putting on weight from living happily.”
[MIYASE]: “……I see. It's a little fascinating to gain weight with what I made. Somehow.”
[REI]: “Ehh……?”
[MIYASE]: “Haha. I'm kidding. Please wait a moment.”
[REI]: “——Haa~, it’s delicious. Jasmine tea is calming.”
[REI]: “This cake also has the best taste. I love it because the outside is a little crispy.”
[MIYASE]: “Thank goodness. There is still plenty, so please eat a lot.”
[REI]: “Yes!”
While watching Rei-san happily chewing on the cake and drinking tea——the woven fire inside my chest had not been extinguished yet.
[MIYASE]: (Because it's the time for just the two of us, I want to avoid talking about other guys but……I'm curious.)
[MIYASE]: “——Um, can I ask you something? That one you said that you often meet “by chance” recently.”

Here was how it went.
One morning, “he” forgot his wallet and was stuck at the ticket gate of the station.
Rei-san, who was kind, called out to him and gave him a couple hundred yen for the train, saying that he didn’t have to return it.
——Though, “he” ambushed Rei-san the next morning and repaid his debt.
After that, when she commuted to work, not only did they meet almost every day, but they also met at convenience stores and supermarkets in the neighborhood.
[MIYASE]: “It’s definitely a stalker. I'm sure there are many men who are crazy about your kindness, because I’ve deeply felt that since dating.”
[REI]: “I’m really okay. Because we met at a general store last week when I was with Go-san, and I haven't encountered him at the station anymore.”
[MIYASE]: “……Really?”
[REI]: “Really.”
[REI]: “We were holding hands, and if he was really a stalker, wouldn't he have lost interest when he realized that I had a boyfriend?”
[REI]: “And anyway I'm all about Go-san! I'm sorry if I made you worried.”
[MIYASE]: “Mn. I was worried. If you thought that man was better, I was imagining how I would get you back.”
[REI]: “Ahaha. It's impossible for me to look at other people, but I'm honestly happy that you wouldn’t give up.”
She put her feelings into words properly.
I wonder how many times her sincere straightforwardness would save me.
[MIYASE]: (——Ah, not good. Even though it’s still bright out, I want to take her to bed.)
[MIYASE]: “…………”
[REI]: “Go-san?”
[MIYASE]: “……I forgot to mention something important.”
[REI]: “Eh-, what is it?”
[MIYASE]: “The sender said on the phone that the jasmine tea contained ingredients that makes you want to touch your beloved person.”
[REI]: “Ehhh!?”
[REI]: “……Er, Go-san, that means that um……-“
Perhaps she noticed my outright lie’s intention, Rei-san’s skin was dyed pink like jasmine buds.
I couldn’t hold it in anymore and touched her colored cheeks, and kissed her with love.
[MIYASE]: “——, I seem to like you too much. I should cool my head a little.”
[REI]: “I-I didn’t say I hate it……-“
[MIYASE]: “——!”
I quickly picked up Rei-san who held onto my clothes tightly……
We enjoyed the continuation of the festive holiday with the scent of jasmine in a world of only the two of us.

It was an early afternoon one day when Hattori had quipped out of the blue for me to fetch a drink for him. A request which I found myself unwittingly forcing a smile at.
Ran: I’m in the middle of settling my paperwork, Hattori-san. Plus, I don’t have anything that requires me to make a trip out right now.
Hattori: Hmmm, what a coincidence. I’ve got no reason to be outside on my end either.
Ran: It would be better if you go get a drink yourself since I’m not particularly thirsty either.
Hattori: Here, take this. Barley Tea; Black if it’s out.
(He’s not listening…!)
He handed me a Thousand-yen bill with a nod and I had no choice but to stand up from my seat at my desk.

Ran: …I’ve returned. Here you go.
I placed the Tea he had requested along with the spare change on his desk, put off by how I was being treated as a convenient errand-runner for him.
He lifted his chin a fraction as I neared, his mouth quirking up into a smirk.
Hattori: You really resemble a Shiba, don’t you?
(Here come the dog comparisons again…)
Ran: …It’s hard to feel happy about that.
Hattori: It’s praise, but you don’t necessarily have to feel happy about it.
Ran: What’s with that.
(I really don’t get it when he acts like this, as usual…)
Returning to my desk with a small sigh, I overheard him mumbling something, seemingly to himself.
Hattori: …I’m a dog-type of person after all.
Ran: …Urk…!
I could feel my cheeks heat up at his off-handed comment.
Hattori: Seems like the heatwaves from the sun must be really strong today. A certain someone’s cheeks are positively flaming.
Ran: Y-You’re just imagining it!
(I’ll just be playing into the palm of his hand if this goes on…!)
Thus, I defeatedly returned to the pile of paperwork on my desk. It was his win, but it felt like a satisfying defeat of sorts.

What I like about SutaMai is despite having characters you stan, the other characters can still catch your attention. Go Miyase is the butler/gardener/ Chef of the Kujo Clan. He is quiet and reserved, and often seen as a calm character. However, in his Chapter 0 l, it seems he has a painful past he covers with beautiful objects, flowers.
I haven’t read his whole route, but decided to save my ebi points to get it. ♡
Seriously, I adore SutaMai’s format. They give each character enough spotlight in the events and focused plot on their individual storylines. ♡
