as someone who's both a staunch anti monarchist irl and yet is obsessed with fictional modern royalty stories, it is truly one of my greatest pleasures to know that they all end with the same conclusion: monarchies are unsustainable in the modern era and they're bad for everyone involved. and the happiest ending possible is freeing the royals from their shackles. bonus points if they abdicate for love. it's just so good. i eat it up every time.

Who’s wedding dress would you wear/take inspiration from if it was your day?

Oh that's a fun question! So unfortunately I'm not slim and rich and used to people looking at me like most royals. I'm a normal person lol. So I have lots of insecurities and things that I'd love to have but just wouldn't feel confident. So I've picked one that's more realistic and one that's a bit more ambitious:

Crown Princess Victoria's

What I like is it covers the top of the arms which is important but it keeps the chest open, it doesn't feel restricted. I also really like that it's quite classic and simple but doesn't feel boring. I'd feel stupid in a big, sparkly princess dress and I'm incredibly pale - I often say I look like a sickly Victorian orphan - so if I wore lace I'd look like Miss Havisham. I like that it's not embellished to high heavens. The only thing I don't like so much is the fabric. I'd prefer something that feels softer in the skirt. Which leads me to...

Princess Eugenie's

This is the slightly more adventurous one. I don't like the pattern on the fabric as much but it feels softer than Victoria's because of way the fabric drapes in the skirt. I also think it has a similar approach of keeping the chest open but covering the upper arms. I love the quirky bustle at the back but whether I'd be brave enough to do something like that, I'm not sure. But I also love the story behind it. The fact she chose not to have a veil (I'm not really fussed about a veil either as I'd have to have my hair down) and to have a low back so that she showed her scar. I like clothing that sends a message.

In reality, if I ever marry (which I don't anticipate I will), I plan on wearing my mum's wedding dress. I remember mentally making a list of all my ideals for a wedding dress once and then realised it was just my mum's dress I was describing. I asked her and she said she'd be more than happy for me to wear it. She also has always made it clear to me she was going to offer me the tiara she wore which is gold with thistles so I'd try to make that work (I'm not a fan of gold jewellery but I like the sentimentality so I'd try).
