Swiss GP 1950: grand prix #4 in Formula 1 history
When racing in Switzerland still was a thing, Bremgarten was the place where the fourth round of 1950 season happened, on 4th June, but could be considered the third somehow, as in Indianapolis none of the usual teams or drivers entered the race. Alfa Romeo took the top-3 in qualifying with Juan Manuel Fangio, Nino Farina and Luigi Fagioli, followed by Ferrari cars of Luigi Villoresi and Alberto Ascari. Some Talbot-Lago and Maserati were well ahead of a third Ferrari, driven by Raymond Sommer.
All the three Ferraris were forced to retired due to technical reasons, with Ascari the first one, after attempting at the beginning to fight with the Alfas and ending up at some point in third behind Fangio and Farina but ahead of Fagioli. Fangio, at the beginning in the lead and later in second place behind team-mate Farina, was forced to retire too and Alfa Romeo managed to take "just" a 1/2 finish with Farina and Fagioli. Talbot-Lago took a podium with third place from Louis Rosier, while Prince Bira and Felice Bonetto, both Maserati drivers, took the last two scoring positions, fourth and fifth.

His First World Championship Race
His First World Championship Race
Here is a young Stirling Moss about to go out to practice in his first World Championship F1 race, the Swiss Grand Prix which took place on the dangerous Bremgarten circuit at Berne on May 27, 1951. Moss is in one of John Heath’s F2 HWMs which were powered by the two liter four cylinder Alta motor. Heath had been invited (which means starting money) to bring two of his cars, the second one to be…

Q: Are you staying in Switzerland? A: Since I've been here, I've really appreciated that people are very nice to me. Of course you get recognized, but people let me be who I am. They give me the freedom I want when I live my private life.  Q: Finally, put together a typical Swiss menu for our Sunday readers. A: So we have to start with dessert. I love Swiss carrot cakes! No matter what time of day. The main course has to be Zürcher Geschnetzeltes with Röschti. And as a starter: Bündnerfleisch or, even better, lamb's lettuce with bacon and egg.

HELP! EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! PLEASE JUST 5 MINUTES ARE ENOUGH FOR THE BETTER OF MY COUNTRY! SIGN THIS PETITION AND SHARE IT WITH AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN!
Tumblr media
Like today, a year ago, in Tempi, nearby where I live, two trains crashed. They were moving in the same road, opposite to one another for 12 minutes and nobody knew about it, until the two trains crashed...
57 people died, most of them being students, around 18-25 years old.
They said it was the station master's fault, he didn't realise that he put the trains in the same rail. But they are hiding the truth...
Our trains were bought from Switzerland, and those trains were used by the Swiss for almost 2 months and they were about to be destroyed, because they were considered to be a danger for everyone.
Our trains, for almost 24 years are moving around the country manually. No train has a GPS system. The systems were bought by the Greek government in 1999 and till today, 2024 they have not been installed....
The railways do not have signal lights, radar, monitoring center and station masters....
We Greeks move like this, for about 20 years....
Until 28 of February 2023, that this terrible train crash happened....
Today, a year later, our politicians lie to us, make empty promises and reassure us that everything is under control. The truth is that nothing is under control. A year later they have done nothing...
The railways are still malfunctioning, no GPS, no monitoring centers and no lights....
And the only one who payed for it was the station master, who did a fatal mistake, but he was just the front person that behind him hid the politicians, that do not take any responsibilities...
The next day after the train crash, the minister of the Ministry of Transportations quit his place! Can you believe it?
The European Union has condemned Greece for ignoring the laws and pointed out the greed of our Prime Minister, which hasn't stated anything of that matter for over a year....
Greeks are devastated! No one hears us, the government is killing us!
Greeks want our politicians to take responsibility. It is in our hands to do it, but we also need help.
Please, spend 5 minutes signing this petition.
Signing this states that you want a constitutional change, which will lift over the political immunity that protect the politicians!
Your help is so much needed. The families of those people suffer and want justice for their children!
PLEASE! WE NEED YOUR HELP, WE CAN'T LIVE LIKE THIS!
Sign this petition please! You can chose to ignore the tiping fees. It is only fair that they pay for what they did!
Pray for those 57 lost souls!
😢🕊️

Today in Chontent: February 12th (2018)
Charles gets interviewed by Andrea Noviello of warmup-f1.fr about his upcoming rookie F1 season.
Tumblr media
source: warmup-f1.fr series: f1, 2018
Established by Sauber after his breathtaking 2017 campaign, Charles Leclerc is excited to finally be able to start his first season at the wheel of a Formula 1 car.
His 2017 season was close to perfection. By conquering with disconcerting superiority seven victories, eight pole positions, ten podiums and four fastest laps last year in the antechamber of Formula 1, Charles Leclerc not only positioned himself as one of the greatest hopes of tomorrow, but above all won his ticket to the premier category of motorsport. Recruited by Sauber as part of the partnership between the Swiss team and Alfa Romeo, the figurehead of the Ferrari Driver Academy will have the difficult task of meeting the immense expectations generated by his consecutive double crowning in GP3 and Formula 2. But while waiting to finally be able to demonstrate the full extent of his talent aboard an F1 car, the Monegasque took advantage of these long weeks of break to perfect his physical condition and begin his process of discovering the Hinwil facilities. Delighted to be able to collaborate again with his former boss at ART GP Frédéric Vasseur, the Sauber driver is resolutely confident before tackling his first season at the highest level. Aware of the difficulties that await him, Nicolas Todt's protégé nevertheless wants to be ambitious. Convinced of being able to put his best foot forward if he remains focused on his own work, Leclerc intends to confirm in 2018 all the good things that the paddock thinks of him.
The Formula 1 world championship will resume on March 25 at Albert Park in Australia. How do you feel a little over a month before your big debut in the premier category?
Very good. I've dreamed of it since I was little! To think that I am going to start my first season in Formula 1 is just incredible. But I must not forget to concentrate on the work I will have to do in F1. 2018 will be a pivotal year in my career. So I'm actively preparing physically to be ready the day I get into the new car.
The winter break is generally a rather difficult period for a pilot, because it consists almost exclusively of heavy and intensive physical preparation. How do you manage to fill the lack of management?
It is extremely difficult, if not almost impossible, for a pilot to make up for the lack of running. Of course it has absolutely nothing to do with F1, but I'm still going to try to go and drive a kart a little these days just to get some sensations and have fun. I spend the majority of my time perfecting my physical condition so that I can be in good shape for the first tests in Barcelona. The desire to drive a single-seater, unfortunately, cannot be satisfied for a large part of the winter. Afterwards, everyone is in the same boat. You just have to accept it and prepare as best as possible for the winter tests.
Starting out in Formula 1 is always a crucial step in a driver's life. In addition to arriving in a completely different world from the one you have encountered in the past in promotional formulas, are you aware of reaching the biggest milestone in your career in motorsport?
Completely. F1 is nothing like the minor categories. Going from karting to single-seaters is already a big step. Moving up to Formula 1 undoubtedly represents the second biggest step in a driver's life. The engines were all identical within the promotion formulas I went through. So the goal came down to doing the best job possible in the car. If we met this condition, we knew full well that the results would follow.
In F1, on the other hand, the driver is much more dependent on the performance of his machine...
Yes. It's not quite the same thing in F1, because there is a lot of difference in performance between the cars. The procedures to follow are also much more numerous than in the small categories. F1 is really a big step to take, but above all I have to concentrate on the work I will have to do in the single-seater in order to bring the best possible result home. I will also focus on developing the car as quickly and efficiently as possible throughout the season.
For the first time since you started karting, you will approach a season knowing that you will not have the means to win on a regular basis. How do we mentally prepare ourselves to settle for runners-up when, like you, we have collected titles in the lower categories?
Above all, I will seek to deliver the best possible work in the car. The end result won't matter in the end. The most important thing for me will be to stay focused on my job while trying to make the car progress as quickly as possible. F1 is undoubtedly a completely different world to what I have experienced in the past. So I'm definitely going to have to go through a little period of adaptation. But to be able to do effective work in the premier category, the key will be to concentrate on what I have to do and only on that.
You will team up with Marcus Ericsson in 2018, a driver who certainly did well last year alongside Wehrlein, but who does not necessarily enjoy a very big reputation inside the paddock. To hope to impress F1, won't you somehow be obliged to "crush it" like you outclassed Formula 2 last year?
Marcus has a lot of experience in F1. So I'm already going to try to learn alongside him. However, as I mentioned previously, my main goal is to produce the best job possible while remaining focused solely on myself. This is something I learned from my previous seasons in single-seaters. If I focus on my work and do it well, then I should be able to demonstrate what I'm worth. I prefer not to distract myself by looking at others. I just make sure I give my best. We will then see what results I will be able to obtain this season.
Sauber remains in four very difficult seasons in Formula 1. In addition to its recurring financial problems, the Swiss team has also suffered greatly on a sporting level since three times out of four it finished the championship in tenth place. Did these chronic difficulties scare you when joining the Swiss team?
No, on the contrary I am very confident. With “Fred” (Vasseur) at the helm, the team is truly in good hands. I know him very well and I love the way he works. A team manager must work in this way to help the team progress. We should also not neglect the impact of the return of Alfa Romeo. So yes, until we put the car on the ground, it will be difficult to predict anything. Our main mission will be to develop the car as quickly as possible throughout the year.

Good morning Mac!
Which of the ghouls do you reckon can read a map? i think swiss is secretly amazing at it, he learned how from going on long hikes with mountain <3
Hi trifle!!
I agree, Swiss would def be able to read a map. He's so resourceful. He even understands topographic maps that show elevation.
I feel like Aether would also be able to read maps. It just makes sense.
Dew doesn't like reading off of paper maps but he's fantastic at planning routes and laying down tracks using resources like Gaia GPS and Fatmap.

Borrowed from No al Motociclismo Moderno FB page :
“Swissauto V4 500 two stroke: (maybe) the best two stroke engine ever built.
Born from Urs Wenger's "pencil", initially born to replace their 4-in-line sidecars, he made his debut in 1995 on Rolf Biland's LCR sidecar, who finished second, winning four races.
The engine immediately developed a significant maximum power (180hp) and the secret was in its configuration: a single engine shaft but only two crank chambers, that is, each V worked in sync, with two ignitions at a time, almost a natural "big bang", so less friction, less load losses fluidodynamics and output was immediately high.
The V was 108°, the slate intake in the cranket and the weight was incredibly low: 37kg, that is the same as April 250 and 7kg less than the Yamaha 0WD3.
In the meantime, Wenger tried to install the propeller in a '93 Harris chassis, doing a first test on the track and got the interest of Serge Rosset (ROC), whose headquarters were 200km away from Swissauto.
The turning key to the realization of the Swissauto motorbike was the intervention of Swiss entrepreneur Michel Métraux, president of IRTA and committed sponsor of all the best Swiss GP drivers, as well as owner of the Parisienne 250GP team of the mid-1980s and the Swiss Automotive Group of Métraux which included the Swiss distributor of ELF lubricants, one of the reasons why all the bikes it sponsored for over twenty years always carried ELF stickers. From there, gaining the support of the French multinational to support the development of a brand new all-European 500GP motorcycle, was only one formality and at the '95 GP of Catalonia the agreement was announced: the elf was returning to the 500 after seven years of absence.
The Swissauto engine raced in the World Cup from 1995 to 1997 with the LCR sidecars, in 1996 and 1997 with the Elf-ROC, in 1998 and 1999 with the MuZ, after which the Swiss house, with the amendment of the sidecar regulation allowing the 1000 4-stroke, decided to withdraw.
In 2001, with the name Pulse, the elf reappeared in the Moto World Cup 500.
For the record, the Swiss V4 was installed on a Proton KR chassis in 1999 (a prototype that never raced) and starred in one of the most monumental April Fools' Day in motoring history: the Aprilia 500 V4.
But that's another story.”

hi jess! harvest, fog, and cobweb for the autumn ask game!!
Hi baby blu!!! thank you so much for asking
Harvest - what fictional character do you most identify with? Why?
Hmm I would probably say Arya Stark both phisically and some of our traits are much alike
Fog - how well do you think you’d do in a zombie apocalypse scenario?
I think I would do pretty well actually as my backpack is full of really useful things like a first aid kit, a swiss army knife, a GPS, extra pair of socks etc (I can explain), and my survival skills, specially out in the nature, are okay I guess
Cobweb - (if you’ve graduated) do you miss high school?
I really miss high school, specially my friends, but I really miss how simple thing were back then and I had 3 wonderful years because I used to be more outgoing and extroverted
Send me your autumnal asks 🍂

Well, this semester is killing me. I'm finally giving in and not trying to just soldier through it, because lately the more pressure I'm under the harder it is to function.
I made an appointment to get tested for ADHD and Autism spectrum. I've had people with ADHD tell me they think I have it, and thew same with people on the spectrum. I'm guessing it's a cocktail of both but we'll see. Asked my old GP about it, bsack in the 90's, she said "Oh you're just depressed, here's a prescription." Antidepressants just made things much, much worse.
I've been pretty sure I'm ADHD since i was a kid. Family doctor diagnosed it as 'hyperactive' in the 70s but family couldn't afford mental health treatment. And they didn't just dole out Ritalin in the 70s. Made it through three years of college with no help... until I couldn't anymore. Joined the army, where there's a huge mental health stigma. So no help there.
Then I got out and it probably sunk me in grad school. Then 9/11 happened and I got a job with a clearance high enough that I would have had to open any mental health treatment for scrutiny by security people. No thanks.
I survived one semester now, barely. This one is crushing me, mostly because of executive dysfunction. I'm behind and I'm stressed. And in pain and not sleeping. But that's another issue.
It's been worse since i got covid. Thrice. Memory is Swiss cheese, and my old tried and true study techniques which got me through learning three difficult foreign languages are failing me in Botany 101. I just got a 50 on an exam that I studied hard for.
It doesn't help that my dad died from Alzheimer's last year. I got all his other maladies 10 years earlier in life than he did, why not this one too, right?
Well, let's see what they tell me.
