Film after film: Eat Drink Man Woman (dir. Ang Lee, 1994)
A sprawling family drama about a widowed and soon-to-retire father with three adult daughters, neither of whom is married. Lee went on to direct Sense and Sensibility, which is more or less the same story (minus food, plus horses).
海南雞飯 | RICE RHAPSODY (2004)
dir. Kenneth Bi
Jen runs a Hainan chicken rice restaurant whilst taking care of her three sons. The oldests, Daniel and Harry, are gay, and Jen is determined her youngest, Leo, does not go the same way, going as far as to enlist the help of her friend Kim-Chui, who owns a nearby restaurant and is secretly in love with her. Leo has become Jen's life, and she is pinning all her hopes of grandchildren on him, so she and Kim-Chui hatch a plan that involves bringing Sabine, a female French exchange student, to stay at Jen's house.
