Crux
It could be seen as any other confrontation with the Eorzeans. The people of the land wanting to push back the incursion of the Empire and the will of the Emperor himself. This wouldn’t be her first bout with the opposition as she had participated in. Be it an assignment for small encampments of rebellion in her homeland of Dalmasca and the outskirts of the Far East.  What she couldn’t steel herself entirely from was the growing guilt that held her chest while staring down the fields of Carteneau. For this battle every available soldier was called to the front to conquer.
Tumblr media
Even with her ears being pinned back due to her helm, there was no deafening the cries of anguish as bodies scattered whole or sundered. Be it those of what some thought to be comrades, others that of the enemy. The only thing to rid her of the screams were the roars of the magitek armor that fired onto the Eorzeans. Looming above would be the timer for their battle as it illuminated the field amongst smoke and magick thrown about. Every so often, Syndes found herself staring up at the red moon curious as to what exactly ti was. Only the legatus, others of higher rank, or privy to the knowledge of what lay inside.
Cutting down every person that stood in front her, she read their movements with no issue. To her, every swing and war cry they sang was that of a savage needing to be slain. Some were to be cut down by her blade and some less fortune to have a round fired in their direction to penetrate armor. A treasured item of hers would be the gunblade she had been given once reaching oen, no longer mingling with the average aan of the city state. That still wouldn’t stop the stares she would get while wandering through the streets of Garlemald, but she was far from the only viera present. Her moment of recollection cost her enough to lose her helm to reveal herself, the impact of the frost bolt causing her forehead to bleed as the ornament she wore pierced the skin before shattering on the ground. Combatants around her looking shocked to see a viera, but far from relenting at the notion.  What little malice that held their gaze seemed almost mournful to see a viera on the side of the Empire.
In her heart of hearts, she knew that her kind were those of the enthralled, but there was nothing they could do. That much the Garleans had told them when she had come to understand her place within their flock. As the ornament fell from her forehead so too did the red moon too before the shell cracked to reveal the dreadwyrm inside.

II - Sway
Tumblr media
Her body felt heavy, all sounds about her were muffled at best to where she could only make out slivers of where she had been taken. Able to feel the cushion of a down surface hastily made for arrivals. As her eyes open, shapes were blurred to the point of Impossible recognition. Though given the hue of her surroundings, she knew she was far from Garlemald. The scent of sweat, blood, burned flesh was accompanied by an earthly one that almost seemed nostalgic to her. Slowly but surely her vision returned to her able to make out the shape of elezens scurrying about the inn were it seemed most were being held for recovery. No lack of guards to those that once garnered the Empire’s sigil on their body and what armor they had was stripped away for bandages.
“You mustn't move!” a lone lalafel rushed to Syndes’s side with small gentle hands out stretched toward her. The very movement caused her to recoil, somewhat ashamed that she would even fathom the creature could harm her. “Do you..know where you are?” she asked as pale blue eyes peered up at her with concern.
‘A land of savages..’ she thought to herself, but wouldn’t give the small female a verbal answer. While she had looked at several maps over the years, that wouldn’t mean she knew what every location looked like.
“Well regardless, you’re here now and I’ll be taking care of you for now on.” As she examined her charge, her eyes settle on the sigil of the Empire was inked into the viera’s left arm. Her brows furrow at the image, but that didn’t deter her from what she wished to do for Syndes. Per the order of the Elder Seedseer, any regardless of their previous allegiance were to be offered succor and hopefully turned toward a form of redemption.
For the viera, it was clear she wouldn’t be able to go back to her once home and from the outside looking in, prison. What she could recall, her own thoughts were even questioning the validity of Garlemald’s intent and cause. On top of that, just how much she had been fed over the years to instill her loyalty to them. Granted, they were not shy from advising those that wished to fight for the banner were nothing more than fodder. Once one was taken by who they deemed to be the enemy, they would be considered dead and lost to the empire.
