YES. YES. GATHER AROUND MY ANIMORPHS FANS WHO WILL ANALYZE THE FUCKED UP IMPLICATIONS OF JAKEMARCO…

And even how this dynamic extends out to the rest of the team, too. Off the top of my head, the way that roles and archetypes are played upon, brought up, and beaten INTO the characters themselves, by each other, to such an extent that it’s obvious how incongruent the real character is vs. the Archetype. I wrote a college paper on how Jake’s dialogue in one of the final books played on the stoic nationalism often found in male sci fi heroes. All the characters have some shit like that. And marco is, imo, the BEST character to explore that through. Because he is constantly molding and reforming himself. Because he is in control. Because despite that, he still can’t escape who he actually is, and how he feels.
