it’s so sad that i can relate to Ken Kaneki this chapter. we basically work so hard in life, trying to please people, just because people are in self-denial of the fact that they’re doing all of this just to feel wanted and needed.

you're the first anti-touken/'touken is toxic' blog i've seen. BLESS. the relationship progression was flimsy and ishida can write relationships fine so idk why. maybe it isn't meant to last long term? or it'll improve eventually. FOR NOW THOUGH when people are like "?? touken is HEALTHY n more solid than hidexkaneki" i think back to kaneki saying something like 'everyone i love hurts/hits me'? which is actually sadly literal with everyone, /ESPECIALLY/ TOUKA, except a select few, and !!Hide!!

Agreed! The thing is… touken is kinda obvious. It’s right there, shoved down our throats. Handsome boy meets pretty tsundere girl - of course, everyone has gotta ship them. *rolls eyes*But HideKane is less obvious. You gotta actually think about the characters and read between the lines to fully realize just how much sense it’d make for them to be together - and not everyone does that or wants to do that.

To be honest, I’m fairly certain that touken is a red herring. It was just used to further the plot and is supposed to be a toxic relationship (which Ken himself is slowly beginning to realize) that will inevitably fall apart.

Since the beginning of Tokyo Ghoul, one major thing that kept Ken fighting was Hide. And Hide subconsciously continued affecting him even when he became Haise. And when Ken fought Arima for the second time, it was the illusion of Hide that stopped him from giving up / dying - but at the same time, that was probably the moment when Ken felt he had to let go of Hide. After that, he couldn’t continue living, continue fighting for Hide - cuz he thought he was dead…Ken said it himself in chapter 159 of TG:re “I just wanted to be needed by someone… I thought that as long as I kept fighting, I would be wanted by someone…”As far as he knew, he didn’t have Hide - the one person he probably always hoped he could come back to - anymore. He didn’t have a home anymore. But he wanted to be wanted by someone and that someone conveniently got to be touka - just cuz she fucked him. And she also apparently got pregnant so of course - of fucking course - Ken would hold on to that with everything he got and not let go.That whole thing with touka led to Ken, turning into a dragon. But it didn’t just create the problem, it also helped solve it - touka gave Ken her ring which ended up being useful in saving him. How else would Ishida-sensei have pulled this whole part of the story off (with the same amount of chapters) if he hadn’t purposely made touken happen in such a shitty, rushed way? Plus, like I already mentioned, Ken has seemingly begun to realize himself that his relationship with touka is not healthy.So, the way I see it, touken is definitely not supposed to last. Especially not now that Hide - Ken’s better reason to continue living - is back…
