Brennan: because this environment is so hostile there will also be layer actions. If one of you would kindly roll a D20 to see how bad the layer action is --
Murph: you got it [rolls]
Brennan: you want a high number
Emily: why would you do --
[incoherent screaming and overlapping yelling]
Murph: I have just as good a chance as rolling good as any of you!
Emily: why did we not have --
Lou: [rolls a dice]
Murph: oh that's it, that's what you get! That's what you get, that's not good either, that's fine!
[everyone rolls]
Emily: why? Why did you throw your hat in the ring before anyone else even processed what was going on?
Brennan: I'm gonna need --
Siobhan: I'll do it! I'll do it!
Lou: and in my head you acted so fast I was like -- or course! Murph is the one.
Ally: I've got your back Murph
Brennan: I'm going to need everyone here to roll a dexterity saving throws, if you would be so kind.
In the midst of communal screaming, there is only the present moment. The past and the future have dissolved away, nothing more than illusions.
When the past disappears, it takes with it the possibility of regret or shame. When the future vanishes, gone are any feelings of worry, stress and our capability to experience fear. There was no sense, watching a theatre performance by the Beatles, that it took place in linear time – of the type that can be measured on a watch.
The concert was over as soon as it had begun, yet it happened outside of time and it was eternal. There are truths in that screaming that many religions have yet to grasp.
