Also shoutout to that one video Youtube recommended of a guy "getting rid of exposed tree roots" by HACKING THEM UP FROM THE GROUND WITH AN AXE

He claimed the tree survived and was fine but that is way more of a testament to the incredible toughness of trees than to that idea being in any way a good idea. Like sure willow saplings can survive being planted upside down but is that really the recommended method? Some trees can bounce back after a wildfire, didn't you know—hey this tree has too much bark, you know, the well known Tree Problem, let's try taking a fucking blowtorch to it

To be clear, chopping your tree's roots out of the ground with an axe is a fantastic way to not only kill your tree, but to make sure it falls on your house or your car when it dies.

I'm not going to say that you deserve it if that happens, but it is an entirely predictable consequence of an entirely stupid and destructive action, completely and beautifully fitting in a way that karma seldom ever is.

I still haven't come across a gif focusing specifically on Mobius' face and body language following this moment.

Right after that line, there is the sequence where Mobius keeps staring at Loki for about 2 long seconds, shakes his head, looks down at his pie, and then raises his head and stares intently at Loki. For about 2 long seconds. Again.

My point is. Mobius seems frustrated. He knows he's holding the crucial information back. No, it's not about the life he was supposed to live in the Sacred Timeline. It feels like he's internally screaming " — Can't you see already, Loki? You are here now. You became my purpose."

I think the way Owen delivered those lines — better, expressed the whole sequence — might be a huge give away.

And previously, where Mobius says so vehemently " — Look, that's the last thing I should think about it", the first thing I thought was that Mobius is struggling to process the fact that he has fallen in love with Loki, maybe even before his arrival at the TVA (since he spent a lot of his time studying basically Loki's whole life). And now that his favorite variant is there, his life working at his side is what matters from now on, what makes sense, what he really wants and nothing else. Imagine how difficult is being a great analyst, always seeking out for logic, control and reasoning, and then being forced to bottle up a turmoil of feelings for someone?

Loki keeps pushing the issue, the camera closes up on Mobius' face intentionally, so the audience can't miss any detail, intensifying the atmosphere of underlying tenseness — yes, it's subtle, nuanced, but it's there. All the while, Loki is extremely gentle and understanding. Have you also notice how extremely soft his voice sounds during that friendly interrogation?

And pay attention to another thing. During that scene, Mobius blinks a lot while answering Loki's questions in a row. A LOT. Excessive blinking is an obvious sign of anxiety and stress, but also that someone may demonstrate internal conflict or a covering up of the truth.
