Possibly my favorite thing about posting on ao3 is slowly updating the tags with random shit about each chapter as new things happen. I just added "I shall let them swear" as a tag.
Idk why but this brings me immense joy.

Just finished the final chapter of Crimson Rivers. I don't even have the *words* for how much this fic meant to me like. I think Zar is one of the best writers of our generation and this fic touched parts of me I didn't even know existed anymore. I'm so grateful and moved and in awe and full of love and loss and hope.
It's a work of art. It's beautiful. It's what every piece of writing should aspire to.

just realized smth.
some of my main characters have something within them thats like, a prominent source of trauma. for example, roman has the wolf, arkham has his fire, (and oz doesnt really have any trauma but) oz has his water.
arkham couldnt control the fire, and it killed his family. now, he teaches himself to use it to kill the man that manipulated him. he takes the thing hes lived in fear of since he was a little kid and he makes it a part of him!!!
roman’s wolf didn’t directly cause the trauma, but his first transformation was forced while he was imprisoned as a child, and then he spent his childhood back and forth between wolf and human just fighting to survive for years. it was a traumatic event and he had mixed feelings about it, he was scared he was too dangerous to actually love oz, but he realized that he’d saved himself “by being a monster”,
and then he saved oslo more than once using his wolf. after overcoming that internal block, transforming didnt hurt anymore, it actually felt nice. even though his bones were breaking and healing he wasnt in agony anymore, because oslo loved his monster.
and roman had almost drowned while he was lost as a kid. he’d been dragged to the bottom of a cursed pond and almost died and it left him in absolute fear of deep water and swimming. but oslo.. oslo is the ocean. he is the son of a sea monster and a goddess, he.. he just IS the ocean. hes water at his core, and roman absolutely loves him. hes the first time roman wasnt scared of the water, he helped teach roman to swim without panicking, he saved roman from drowning. roman grows to love the ocean because he loves oz.
and oz doesn’t understand his connection with water at first, and he probably never would have learned if he didnt join Roman’s court and didnt fall for him. he only began to learn because he visited the sea with roman and he saw leviathans, who recognized him and actually stopped to talk to him (he didn’t even know he could talk to them!!!)
but yeah. uh. i have strong feelings about my silly little guys :3

one thing thats really fun about the current jaiden sus situation is that like... cucurucho is winning here. maybe.
jaiden is unintentionally succeeding where cellbit failed. cellbit didnt want people to trust him but most people immediately clocked he hadnt actually betrayed them. They stuck together and worked it out the whole community became stronger because of it
And jaiden is being completely honest and people arent trusting her. she’s in the perfect position to cause that fracture. They dont know her as well, she’s grieving (and grieving parents have been proven to do horrible things), and it seems like she’s just retreading the same road thats failed them so many times.
it’s all just ! people are having trouble agreeing on what to do about her. there’s something So Tasty about a narrative where the isolated causes others to isolate themselves.
i love cucurucho. its doing the same thing and expecting different results but this time its RIGHT

Sobbing in bed because I'm writing a Ulysses fic and I'm caught between him killing the Courier because they are willfully giving up all the people they love and all the good they've done in the Mojave and he wanted them dead and gone-
And him just telling them they don't belong in the Divide with him. Not them, not their soft heart.
"You need to go home," Ulysses would say.
The courier would just laugh.
"Go home, Courier," they mumble. "Your signs. I have them all marked on my Pip-Boy. I don't even know why, but I mark all of the ones I find."
They traverse the Divide KNOWING Ulysses will kill them.
They take off their armour and keep only their finest, best combat knife and a gun on them with enough ammo to get them to Ulysses and to give him a third bullet to put in their skull alongside the two from Benny.
They offer him their knife, their gun, and the option for him to kill them with his bare hands.
Willingly. Selflessly. Painfully.
"I could never hate you, Ulysses. Not for this, never for this. I will never be mad at you for this."
And he's caught.
They're a godsend to this place, so much good they've done.
Does he kill them? Or does he bridge the Divide?
Maybe they go home. Maybe he kills them.
And maybe, after everyone back home knows they're okay... Maybe they do belong here, in the Divide, with Ulysses.
