God anon,,,,, this is such a loaded question. You're putting my delirious shipper brain to the test here, I must say. But I'll give it a go.

This has to happen very well into Adam's redemption, alright? Okay so, I think Lucifer would realize and accept to himself that he's attracted to Adam somewhat very early on. It's easy to tease him, it's fun to put him in his place and watch him be so weak and also getting his just desserts. Somewhere along those lines, the teasing goes into a territory where he's like "yeah, I'd fuck that, why not" and I imagine he does so not long after lol. However this is still very much a power thing and a "putting him in his place" thing. And then Adam eventually starts to change and behaves better (not without relapses obviously) and Lucifer starts seeing that potential that he always knew he had, actually blossom for once! After literal millennia! This makes Lucifer be more open to a more... amicable relationship outside of the bedroom. Lucifer and Adam actually start becoming friends. A lot of drama occurs in between, a lot of relapses, fights, maybe even some betrayals, disappointment, etcetera etcetera.

But once things settle in, picture Adam in his room, a pot in his hand, he's been trying to get this flower to blossom for weeks, and it's finally getting there. Charlie told him a few weeks ago that this was her favorite flower, but it's hard to find and maintain in Hell's conditions. Adam took the challenge and found a seed, a pot, some good soil, and began trying to make it bloom. Lucifer sees him, carefully trimming and plucking so it looks perfect for her, and Lucifer realizes the huge difference between the Adam before him, and the Adam who was in Heaven a couple months ago. He sees him making one of the nicest things he's seen ANYONE ever do, and it means even more coming from him. And then he realizes, holy shit, he's in love with that man.

Adam, meanwhile, it's weeeeeeeeeeell after that, lmao. I don't think he has the emotional maturity to distinguish when he's in love. He hasn't been in love for most of his life/afterlife by this point. He's forgotten how to love, he's forgotten how it feels to genuinely care for a person in that way. Adam doesn't fall for Lucifer in one specific moment, he will never be able to really pinpoint a moment. In fact, even when Lucifer finally drops the bomb and tells him that he's developed real feelings for him, Adam does not believe him, doesn't even UNDERSTAND what he's talking about, like what does that even mean??? Adam doesn't understand what love is anymore, sure, he loves having sex with Lucifer and most recently he actually has fun hanging out with him, they understand each other better and Adam feels really fucking good with himself about his new attitude. But love? Please.

This probably leads to even more drama, Lucifer is frustrated and a little heartbroken because even after confessing his feelings, he just can't get through to him! Much less figure out if Adam feels the same or not! But it's okay, because he's patient, and even if Adam doesn't understand, he asks if they can make their relationship more formal and serious.

Adam is hesitant, but he figures why not, it's not like things will change much for him anyway, it's not like he's fucking anyone else or really wants to fuck anyone else, so he accepts. And they carry on with their relationship for another looooong, long time.

Finally, one day, Adam wakes up next to him, after a particularly good night, and he simply... stares at him, blinks, takes in all his features, and thinks about how he got here and everything they've been through together. A warm sensation spreads across his chest, one that is familiar, he's felt it before, but only now is he able to recognize it. Holy shit, he's in love with that man.

KASPIAN CALDWIN is a werewolf as aforementioned and he’s actually a single father with 3 separate litters (hence why his story was called ‘litter support’ before i thought he could fit well with hue and jihan and added him to the bunch). tl;dr his first litter was with a woman who groomed him 😬 and he had them young and he barely has contact with them, the second litter the mom passed away during childbirth and the grandmother of his kids hates him bc she blames him for it (she never liked him when he and his baby mama were dating). she managed to get primary custody of that litter and tries to badmouth him to the kids but they adore him and wanna spend time with him more (these are the ones who go to school with ozzi; the first litter is slightly older than esther). finally, he has a third litter with a one night stand gone wrong but he and the mom (corah) have a really good relationship as friends and they coparent. these kiddos are young and he spends more time with them but Man they are a handful LMAO. here’s a more in depth explanation of his situation actually. i forgot i wrote that lol.

to support all his kids (well the second and third litters really) he works like LOOOOONG ass hours as a construction/handyman/day laborer/honestly whoever will hire him) but he’s always barely scraping by. he and jihan end up meeting at a mutual friends house randomly. jihan offers to help with his kiddos since kas is clearly stressed and barely knows how to be a dad, and kas doesn’t really care about giving han blood in exchange bc unlike SOME people (hue cough) giving blood makes him sleepy so it helps him take a nap LMAO. han has never fed on his neck tho that’s too intimate.

at the interviews yeah they’re sitting—cuz it’s not for esther it’s actually mostly for them. tldr the WRP (witch resurgence program) matched witches with supernatural couples to deal with the sudden influx of witches suddenly returning to existence after being basically hunted out of existence. jihan and hue were chosen bc they were a couple and stable, but also because jihan (like some older creatures) has dealt with witches before, bc he’s so old lmao. bc esther is actually particularly powerful, and because this is the first group of witch children to make it to college age (esther and her peers) they need all hands on deck while they navigate these changes, so there have always been constant check ins from the government to see how es and ozzi were doing. the interviews themselves aren’t the weird part, it’s just they also get interviewed about their personal lives and relationships because (some) witches have powers strongly tied to their emotions and an unhappy or unstable home life could trigger Bad Shit LMAO. plus the government is trying to understand the toll of magic on families you get the idea. they’re both SUPER well behaved—almost. Too behaved if that makes sense. even if hue is the divorcer it’s not because he doesn’t love jihan—far from it, he’s divorcing him bc he loves him too much (i can’t make it make sense either) so he would never bad mouth him and same thing for han. but they’re not a couple. but the interviewer keeps saying mr. and mr. rvynwell and asking them about their yknow. marriage. so they’re both just so. awkward with it. they don’t deny it bc again cuz of the special circumstances of the WRP “technically” they can’t divorce but at the same time. they are super divorced. LMAO. so it’s mostly just them being extremely stilted and awkward and hue wanting to PERISH bc this is a nightmare

Or maybe the truth is he just doesn't want to understand her. I really don't get why he's more sympathetic toward his brother who mutilated his beloved nephew's life. Like, what is he thinking, exactly? Perhaps his reasoning isn't supposed to go side by side with logic, but rather with feelings or sth. Here are my only guesses why Iroh doesn't care about Azula

1) She reminds him of his younger self that he wants to forget (which I don't even think has a point in saying how much is unfair to Azula)

Or do you want to tell me that Azula has somehow abused Zuko more than him? Why, throughout Zuko's whole journey, has Iroh never told his nephew that the way he was treated by his father, was wrong? Honestly I wouldn’t bash Iroh sm if he set Zuko against both of them yet here we are. Like really, Iroh? You think if Zuko puts her in her place and murders her, he's not going to lose it and be relieved or vice versa? You think making kids nemeses is going to lead to any good? Wisest character", my ass.

Warning, this is gonna be LOOOOONG and I'm gonna answer to your questions along with this ask I got from @profoundkryptoniteblaze after I pointed out another flaw of Iroh's because there are some points you both brought up that can be combined.

"If there was ever any moment in which Iroh could be seen as endangering Zuko, it was that one - hell, Iroh realizing he almost got his "son" killed was probably why he was following him during "The Chase" and tried to reason with him in "Lake Laogai."

Y'know it really gets me thinking if Iroh never learned anything from indoctrinating and sending his own son to death and only realizing the wrong of his actions after having lost him. Iroh let his other son chase after false hope and waste his life, exhausting himself physically and mentally for three years and was never shown trying to pry him away from Ozai or the FN's toxic mentality. Later he helped Zuko chase and almost capture the avatar at the north pole, the latter would've been frozen to death as a result had it not been for Aang's sympathy (honestly not just Iroh and Zuko but the whole world is lucky that he's so patient and compassionate) And then Iroh calls Zuko out for his recklessness in "Lake Laogai". Like what, weren't you the one who-- ah nevermind. I've only scratched the surface about how Iroh failed to guide Zuko and yet neither he, nor Zuko, nor the fandom seem to realize it.

To really understand the issues with Iroh, we need to look at the context behind his actions BOTH in universe and in the sense of "He is a fictional character and can be whatever the fuck the writers say he is."

Iroh as a result of issues with the writting

When Bryan and Michael were still toying with ideas to figure out what story they wanted to tell, Iroh was NOT the character we saw in the show. He was originally meant to be a twist villain who was intentionally giving Zuko terrible advice, to make sure he would never capture the Avatar and be able to come home.

That idea was scrapped and replaced with Iroh being a grey character. He was likeable, nice, and even kind, but he was on the wrong side of this conflict. He could be wise, but he could also give Zuko bad advice, the difference being that he didn't mean any harm and genuinely wanted the best for his nephew. He is far from perfect, but there is more than enough evidence that he can redeem himself.

Then, the writers thought of ANOTHER Iroh. One that had already gone through his redemption and is as perfect as a human being can be. This was the Iroh they decided they wanted.

The problem is that they only realized that was what they wanted in book 2, once they had decided that Azula would be both Aang and Zuko's antagonist, meaning the audience had already seen the morally grey Iroh, and thus they couldn't just go back and rewrite the story with that new version of Iroh in mind.

So, they had three options:

1 - Throw their new idea in the garbage can and stick with the one they had already spent over a season developing.

2 - Give Iroh a deep, complicated, time consuming character arc to lead him from point A to point B. This woudly likely force them to have more than jus the three seasons they were planning, and was a bit of a high risk, high reward situation, since it'd be hard to make a grey character naturally become basically perfect, but it could pay off if they did it right.

3 - Retcon the past season, acting like Iroh was ALREADY perfect and thus didn't need that major character development, pretending he had always been working behind the scenes with the White Lotus to end the war and never acknowledging that he spent all of book 1 trying to help Zuko capture Aang.

Bryke chose option three, and when we combine that with the fact, to this day, they don't seem to realize that Azula is an abuse victim and child soldier, makes Iroh's flaws and antagonism towards her a bug instead of a feature, since he is now meant to be perfect instead of a deliberately flawed character, whose opinions should NOT be taken as absolute truth.

Iroh in universe

When it comes to the Fire Nation royals, we need to remember that, on top dealing with the cicle of abuse, they're also fighting two wars - one against the nations they're invading, and other amongst themselves, to see who will be Fire Lord - that made their already fucked up family even worse.

Ozai tried to steal his brother's throne, and to assure her son wouldn't die, Ursa had to help him commit treason by killing the Fire Lord and usurping the throne of the rightful heir (Iroh). And Zuko, even though he loved Iroh, didn't recognize the fact that his father had no right to throne until the series finale. He went so far as once referring to himself as rightful heir to the throne due to being OZAI and Ursa's son - and that was while he was banished and being hunted down by Azula, who is either the Fire Lord's heir or the usurper's heir depending on whose side you're on.

But why would anyone side with Ozai? Simple: the Fire Nation has a noticeable pattern of thinking ANYTHING is fair in the fight for power, which makes sense considering they're imperialists that think the whole world belongs to them just because they said so.

THAT is how Iroh was raised to see things. Sozin, his gradnfather and Fire Lord, decided that he could murder his best friend, kill 1/4 of the world's population, and take over territory that belong to the other nations just because that was what he wanted to do. Azulon followed in his footsteps, and had no problem sending his own son into the battlefield - something Iroh also did, and then paid the price.

Lu Ten's death shook him to his very core - but it did NOT make him change sides. Neither did Ozai stealing his throne, nor him disfiguring and banishing Zuko. He was so passive by that point that Ozai just allowed him to stay in the Fire Nation, and even be a part of war meetings.

In said meetings, no woman was ever present, because the only three female warriors we see are Azula, Mai and Ty Lee (a princess/prodigy and two noble girls who are best friends with said princess). The only other women in see in anything close to a position as part "Fire Nation army" was the female guard that Iroh befriend AND the guard at the boiling rock. We also know that Azula would have been the first female Fire Lord ever, which all but states that, even if Ozai had been the heir and Azula had been his eldest child, the throne would have still been Zuko's, because women don't get to be rulers in the Fire Nation. It is very likely that being married to a ruler and having his heirs is the highest position a woman could have in their society. Royal and important, sure, but always in a supporting role.

This, obviously, affected Iroh too. While he doesn't really seem to think anything of women being warriors (which makes sense considering he spent life attacking other nations, and thus probably fought women sometimes - we saw women fighting in the Southern Water tribe and let's not forget the Kyoshi Warriors), we cannnot forget he did things like take advantage of the fact that June was paralized to show that he CAN be a bit of a dirty old man, and that his idea of a perfect gift for AZULA of all people was a doll.

However, that doll also reveals something important: Iroh DID once view Azula as a child, and as someone he had some sort of obligation to - hence him being "fair" and getting her a gift too since he had gotten one for her brother.

But the main problem when it comes to Iroh and Azula's relationship (or lack there of) is also clearly already there: Iroh has no idea who his niece is as a person, and assumes he can figure that out by just using some concept of what she "should" be like, based on her position in their society.

At that point, she is just a little girl. Little girls like things like pretty clothes, playing with dolls, and talking with their friends. Not something he can relate to, but not something that gives him a reason to hate her. She is also a princess, and thus important, worthy of praise and respect, and to be protected by all - just not as much as she would be is she were a prince.

But as we know, Ozai sees things differently - but that doesn't exactly means he sees Azula for who she is either. She is the second child, like himself, meaning she is not meant to inherit anything, only support her older brother. She is also a prodigy and incredibly smart, which could make one wonder if maybe she wouldn't be a better Fire Lord than the actual heir. Ozai was projecting onto her from the moment she was born, hence him naming her after the Fire Lord - after his abusive father that never gave a damn about him.

And that leads to another thing that makes Iroh not as perfect as the fandom sees him: Ozai's dynamic with his own children mirrors how Azulon raised him and his brother. One was the good for nothing child, the scapegoat, the disgrace of the family. The other was the golden child, the one who was absolutely perfect - because they HAD to be. Let's not forget that Azulon's idea of defending the rights of his favorite son involved making him grief both for his son AND his nephew. He also didn't give a shit about the fact that Ursa, Azula and especially Zuko, the one whose death he was ordering, had nothing to do with this shit. Azulon believed EVERYONE had to pay because ONE person fucked up.

This suggest that, even being the favorite, Iroh likely got screwed over by his father many times, and his continued support of him until his death AND the fact that he NEVER said a single negative word about him suggests Iroh is looking at Ozai's treatment of Zuko and Azula, seeing their own dynamic with Azulon in it, and thinking there's nothing wrong with it. I've said it many times, but he is the classic case of "That's not abuse! My parents did that to me and I turned out fine!" when they're not, in fact, fine.

Either way, due to still being too broken after losing his son, he isn't interested in this proxy-rivalry with his brother. But he did develop a genuine bond with Zuko - the first-born. the "heir", the son his brother looks down on. Which means he is sort of having a "passive" role in this weird dynamic, while Ozai is holding all the cards, and likely believes that Iroh is only "choosing Zuko's side" because he is also a "useless" son who just happened to have the luck of being born first.

For many years, Iroh isn't acting, he is reacting. Ozai wants the throne? Fine, let him have it, it's not like Iroh is in any condition to actually deal with that kind of stress anyways.

Ozai is playing favorites? Not great, but hey, isn't that what ALL fathers/Fire Lords do anyway? Either way is not like he has the authority to tell his brother how to raise his kids. It's too late for him to fight for the throne now.

Zuko needs someone to help him on his doomed mission to capture the Avatar? Fine, Iroh will go with him. He likes the kid.

The Avatar IS alive after all and Zuko is actively hunting him down? Well, those were the Fire Lord's orders, guess they must capture him.

Zuko wants to go capture the Avatar alone, in enemy territory, at the risk of freezing to death if he doesn't find some decent shelter? Well, it is his mission, he calls the shots.

Zuko is upset that his father doesn't love him? Why not tell him that Ozai DOES love him, and that's why he banished him? There's no way this could backfi- WHY WON'T ZUKO LISTEN TO HIM? WHY IS HE BELIEVING AZULA'S OBVIOUS LIE THAT OZAI WANTS HIM HOME?

But then we have the chain of events that make Iroh snap out of it: Zhao tries to kill Zuko, then kills the moon, and, finally, Ozai sends Azula to capture them.

Nearly losing someone he loved again, having his nation do something ungodly dangerous and stupid just to win more power, and then being actively hunted down forces Iroh to wake up and be the Dragon Of The West again.

But he did not heal. He did not change his mentality. He never understood just how horrible of a situation he was put in by his father - and that he is essentially giving into Ozai's game, in which they use Zuko and Azula as a way to hurt each other.

And we have the final piece of this puzzle: Azula is now, officially, his and Zuko's enemy. She is Ozai's heir, is trying to capture them, and her goals are to help the Fire Nation win the war - something Iroh can no longer accept.

He changed sides, but in his mind it is still "Us VS Them", and Azula now happens to be on the side of "Them." She is a soldier of the enemy, and can rival Iroh's chosen heir.

She is in the way, and in a war, people like Iroh are expected to either capture or kill "obstacles" like her. So, he does that, and expects Zuko to do the same, for his own good, because this is war, and if they don't win, they'll be at Ozai's mercy - and we know he doesn't have much of it to offer.

She is also someone who is going against what is "right." She is rebelling against her uncle and true Fire Lord, as well as her older brother and future ruler. They are above her in the Fire Nation's laws and social hierarchy in every way (status, age, gender, etc), and yet she is supporting a traitor who stole the Fire Lord's throne. She needs to be reminded of her place, and she can either accept that or deal with the consequences.

It never occurs to Iroh that it doesn't have to be this way, because this is all he has ever known.

just about!! i definitely flatter myself with some unrealistic volume in drawings but it is pretty damn long irl — when it's down, the very ends reach the bottom of my back/top of my hips, and when i put it up with the little loop/half bun the ends reach my shoulderblades.

i ALSO get regular urges to chop it all off — especially after i see someone with short hair who looks cool lmao — but the thing that mostly keeps it at bay is 1. reminding myself how long i've been growing it out (which is a looooong time at this point) and 2. being realistic abt the fact that like. i'd be stoked about the novelty for like a week tops and then start regretting it. urge to cut lasts a day or two. growing it back out after cutting lasts years

sorry for the delay, but I was right in the middle of one of the things I thought I miiight recommend you, so I waited until I finished in case it ended up poorly lmao.

Said thing is Zatanna & the Ripper, an already completed webtoon available online for free (don't let the fact that it's 51 issues long deter you, a webtoon episode takes less than five minutes to read lol). I was already reading a couple other DC webtoons, with mixed feelings ("Wayne Family Adventures" is often too fandom-y for my blood but it's given me a few ideas, and "Red Hood: Outlaws" was... neither a bad as its worst moments, nor did it manage to live to the sky high expectations of its very best), and I was already on my Zatanna feels thanks to Young Justice so... I picked this one up.

I'm guessing you know this but Zatanna's comics version differs quite a bit from YJ's; she's from Bruce's generation, for one (he has a cute cameo here with the two of them playing as children lol), her usual love interest is John Constantine (who plays that part here), etc. This isn't quiiiite like the comics version (or what little I've seen of her), she's a bit younger and greener, with a "finding yourself/having faith in your own power" arc.

The premise is that Zatanna, on her 21st birthday, gets transported to London in Victorian times, right around the time Jack the Ripper was killing (I'm pleased to say the run managed to side-step the issues I tend to have with historical fiction that tries to play around with this concept, tbh). She's stuck there, with malfunctioned powers, becomes friends with one of the working girls, starts trying to solve the case etc. etc. It was a fun read, all around.

Hmm... I'm trying to think of favourite stuff of mine that I don't think you've tried... shows-wise, I think that'd be Desperate Wives? Not saying it didn't infuriate the hell out of me at times lol, and I'm not sure how you'll feel about it, since it's also not-my-usual-type... but when it's good, it's GREAT and really damn enjoyable lol. I became hooked really early on so I'd say to give the pilot a try and see if it awakens any interest, if you haven't watched it?

For films... you might've watched some of these, but some of my favourites that you might want to give a try to would be "The Mask of Zorro" (revenge! romance! sword fights as both revenge and romance tools!), "The Handmaiden" (historical lesbian romance with really engaging twists), or 2010's "True Grit" (a western, which isn't usually my thing, about a young girl seeking revenge for her father's murder).

I'll also list some of my favourite classic books that you might or might not have read, Because: "Carmilla", "Dangerous Liaisons", "Frankenstein", "Pygmalion"

I don't know how plausible it'd be to find this available outside of Spain, but I'm recommending "La Promesa", a Spanish telenovela I've gotten into (I'm not really watching it properly because I'm waaaaaaaay behind lol. it's long as fuck, currently in its 150+ episode; I watch the current ones when my mother has it on tv lol, and sometimes some of the old ones). It's sloooooow, which can be frustrating, and LOOOOONG, as I said, but it does some really great things character-wise. I've called it the Spanish Downton Abbey lol, but with faaaar more attention given to the working-class characters (the heroine herself being a maid).

This goes beyond five, but since I'm not sure if you've watched/read some of these, and you probably won't be able to watch the last one ^^U: SEVERANCE!!! Again, I just want people to watch both this AND Dollhouse so we can delve deep into them xDD. Just one short season so far, with a second one coming on 2024. It's about a group of workers who've gone through a surgical procedure that separates their memories from work and those from their life outside, effectively creating different people, and the sketchy corporation they work with. And Dichen Lachman is in it too :D (her part is the only one I actively compared with Dollhouse while I was watching it lol. So far Dollhouse wins but... Priya's story is hard to top).

Another bonus, Because: I recommended the Kemi Ashing-Giwa's short stories stored in Tor to another mutual, so this time I'll give focus to another one: "The Puppermaster", about a banished warrior, her sketchy usurper uncle, and monsters.

some info on jellycat screwing over customers with the drop that people might be interested to know - as someone who works at an independent retailer stocking jellycats, this has been a LOOOOONG time coming. I don't do the orders personally, but according to my boss who does, they're a total mess behind the scenes. The staff member he worked with on order fulfilment literally quit their job there because upper management couldn't get organised and make it work. Indie shops especially have been mega screwed by jellycat for the past year at least, if not longer - we make orders of new releases and stock we need, and then they get shipped in randomly spaced batches, with unpredictable numbers products and times (they literally send us an email with what is being delivered the day before it comes to us). for example, we waited *10 months* to get rose dragon in small and medium and still haven't had huge in, a year later, when we ordered I think 20 or so grizzo gremlin because we knew he'd be popular, we got sent 3 (which sold within the day btw), they didn't send us some christmas items until late november, our shelves go between being absurdly full and depressingly empty for months at a time - all this while larger chain stores are sent the stock, can even get multiple runs of a jellycat before we've even had one. Also because of how badly jellycat screw up their own website stock, any indie retailer with an online shop also gets fucked over because if we have any stock of a sought after Jellycat, scalpers jump on it and sell it at two or three times the price on ebay. They seriously need to get their shit together with stocking and suppliers and organisation, and I really hope this situation with direct customers rather than wholesale makes them actually rethink wtf they're doing lmao

This sounds awfully familiar to me due to being in close contact with my favorite local Jellycat retailer. She has said the exact same things you say and she has said them for a long time. She has a small independent store, too, and she is actually considering dropping the brand now after the country's representative (Germany) got laid off by Jellycat, so now communication is even harder.

I totally agree with you on your final point: They need to seriously think about what they are doing and how they are treating not only their direct customers but also the smaller, independent shops. (they used to be proud of only supplying selected stores with their products! Alas, it seems they have changed over to supplying large department stores/wholesale and such instead.

I’ve noticed that a lot of historical romance novels are (unfortunately) less spicy and…descriptive(? Idk if that’s the right word) than contemporary romance novels, which is a shame because I like spice and I’m not a huge fan of contemp romance. do you have any extra spicy historical romances you can recommend?

I think I get you--but before I make recs, I wanna add a disclaimer that everyone's definition of what is more graphic varies, yada yada. For me, explicit fucking in a lot of contemporaries I've read can be... awkward? But I think that's also because many of the contemporaries I've read are first person (often present tense) and I have a harder time with first person than third--whereas historicals are almost exclusively third person books. And then there's taste; there's one very popular contemporary author known for writing graphics fucking whose sex scenes just don't work for me at all anymore.

Imo, as is the case with a lot of traditionally published books (and most of the popular HR novels are trad, whereas contemporary has way more of an indie presence, at least in terms of popular books) we've seen a slooow down in graphic sex on the page. Like, some of the writing style of older books is a bit more flowery (... sometimes) but the characters fuck a lot more often, the sex scenes are longer, etc. Like in Devil's Bride by Stephanie Laurens, there's a sex scene that isn't as explicit as some contemporary scenes, but it's LOOOOONG and very detailed. And then there are authors like Lorraine Heath, who I would say writes graphic sex, but the scenes aren't super long, she usually doesn't use more ~crass words like "cunt", etc. But even with that softer edge, her most recent release, for example, has the heroine riding the hero's face and shit.

Also, and I'll be real here... Some historicals aren't very plot heavy and have no excuse for less sex imo (besides people just wanting to write less graphic books, which is fine, it's their prerogative) but some historicals are very plot heavy, and again, traditionally published. Speaking as someone who is currently trying to write a historical romance, it's actually! Very hard! To write a book with the amount of fucking I would like to have in it! While also maintaining a good plot, all within 80,000-100,000 words. If that lmao. So they might have less time for numerous super graphic sex scenes. Because HR publishers do wanna see that number and keep the books under 400 printed pages, typically.

bUT ANYWAY. Musing over.

To me, Elizabeth Hoyt writes some of the best sex scenes in the game. I also really like that she refers to the clit as the clit/clitoris a lot, versus button/pearl/nubbin/whatever. Not that those other things don't have their place, but she just puts it out there. I think my favorite books of hers on a sex level would be:

The Raven Prince--Heroine is the hero's secretary, he's an earl, she pretends to be a sex worker at the brothel he visits to blow off steam after getting all riled up around her (the sex workers there wear masks, he is stupid) and... it's a lot. This was Hoyt's first book, I think, and it's one of her most unhinged.

Scandalous Desires--He's a river pirate, she's been raising his baby in an orphanage (it's not her baby, he literally dropped the child off there), a quasi-kidnapping situation occurs. I remember this one having a really good scene where she watched him jerk off without him realizing it... or like, did he. Also, Death Row Head (TM Learning the Tropes).

Thief of Shadows--Virgin hero, older heroine, very star-crossed, the Emotional BJ book.

Duke of Midnight--Cold upper class hero, heroine is lower class and unimpressed, his dirty talk is just weird as shit. Lots of secretive marathon fucking.

Sweetest Scoundrel--This is the one that begins primarily with masturbation, the hero is very gentle with her due to her history with childhood sexual abuse, etc. It has an amazing scene where he jerks off in front of her in a moving carriage. I do love that shit.

Joanna Shupe also writes great sex. I haven't read alll of her books yet, but she generally writes hotter. In particular, I'd recommend:

The Prince of Broadway--Rebellious heroine/dangerous casino owner hero. Their first sexual encounter involves them like, masturbating in a room next to each other without looking at one another, watching a peep show. It's super hot and goes from there.

The Lady Gets Lucky--This one is a sex lessons type book that I personally found a little lighter but also very sexy.

The Bride Goes Rogue--Enemies to lovers situation, they begin their sexual relationship by hooking up at a masked sex party. Very hot, another great carriage scene.

My Dirty Duke--Novella, self-published so a bit hotter, heroine is out to seduce her dad's best friend.

Sold to the Duke--Another self-published novella, heroine is down on her luck and enters a virginity auction. The hero was her dead brother's best friend and buys her to ~save her, but she wants him to get what he paid for.

The Duke Gets Even is out 1/24/2022 and for meeee it was her hottest trad book, but I also. Think rough sex is particularly hot. So.

The Duke in Question by Amalie Howard--Recent release and I was surprised!!! By how things got going between them!!! How early they got going!!! And how they continued to go!!!

Scarlett Peckham's The Duke I Tempted (sub hero) and The Earl I Ruined (dom hero) both get into kink a lot more explicitly than many HRs do, which I think is cool. Heartbreaker by Sarah MacLean--I think Sarah's books in general are hot, but I do think they get progressively more graphic over time (always great). Like, I personally read a difference between A Rogue By Any Other Name -> onward. But Heartbreaker is the hottest thus far. A lot of "good girl"-ing, a hero who is DOOOOWN, she does indeed ride his face, it's a lot.

Stacy Reid writes a hotter historical. Recommend her "Wedded by Scandal" series, especially Wicked in His Arms and How the Earl Met His Match. Wicked in His Arms heats up pretty fast (they have full blown closet sex like 30% of the way through) and the Earl is more of a slow burn it gets HOT imo.

Monica McCarty's Highland Guard books are pretty hot, starting with The Chief, if a little less explicit in language.

Tessa Dare writes a funny, hot book--The Duchess Deal comes to mind, Any Duchess Will Do, A Week to Be Wicked.

I can't say that I've read a historical that is quite as like... intense? As some of the sex scenes Kresley Cole writes in Immortals After Dark, as a reference point, but those are also like. Insane. And feature supernatural creatures. So. Different price points there.

There are a lot of indie/self pubbed/less mainstream HR authors I wanna try in the new year who I suspect write pretty hot sex scenes, but like. I am only one woman. And I do also want to read other subgenres sometimes/not run out of HR authors I enjoy, lol.
