While moonvale isn't enough...I have a little theory, we know that Eric Briggs is mentioned by Alan in episode 10, what if he really is part of the police but as some kind of hacker? a programmer? Alan managed to protect himself from Jake twice, so there was someone who helped him protect himself from Jake and what if it was Eric? What if he played the role of Jake in Moonvale? being a new hacker who will help us but a "good hacker" who works in the police.

Of course we don't know if it's the same Eric, but it's interesting to think about.

So probably it is also known that we have cooperated with a hacker in duskwood. So, what if Eric knows about that and that's why he contacts MC because we already worked with a hacker to solve a case like this. And if it’s the same Eric that Alan mentions, then it could well be that Alan left a good word about us with Eric. 🤔 And I mean, I'm sure we will need a hacker. Otherwise it could definitely be much more difficult. Much of the information to solve Hannah’s case was obtained illegally. And since we're not going to be in Grove Springs, we will need more than just a chat messenger. So, I think it's very, very likely. Even more interesting to work with the police itself. That could be veeery funny. I love this idea so much!

No, joke aside, thank you so much for sharing this theory. It sounds very tempting and it really makes the most sense so far, I would say. This could really lead to lots of interesting situations. Especially the reaction of MC to another hacker could be interesting, at least for those who played Duskwood before. I imagine MC being like 'No, nope, not going to work with you, it's like cheating!'

Uhhhh, yikes this is probably very unpopular among older Jon fans, especially JonJay shippers and this is probably just an excuse to rant but you cannot convince me otherwise that Jay Nakamura isn't a corporate oc. Don't get me wrong, his story and character in itself doesn't bother me but the reasons of his existence and the method of his conception have made him really bothersome and he ends up disgusting me. He is forced into a role of being Jon's equal when that can easily be dilled by existing characters. His "romance" with Jon was so rushed because they had to make a kiss happen in Pride Month, he checks off every box to be the perfect boyfriend to Jon it is actually very concerning (is a reporter who is also a fan of Jon's mom?? Happens to be someone Jon's best friend admires??) Of course some people believed he was a secret villian, he was too convenient. He annoys me because of it, he is so pushed to be Jon's romantic interest that it just ends up making him bland and overrides any actual character potential he had. The editors and writers don't care for him to take time in having him be a character just have him pushed as much as possible to cater to being Jon's romantic interest. I think DC should've have focused in having audience grow to like him before pining him to another character and have him ride on his popularity instead. But that's just me.

HI that longjohn post got me thinking and like. how much of the queercoding in mash do u think is intentional?? i think most of it was unplanned, like hawks mpreg kink, and then. mr alda thought hed write an episode based on a sexual dynamic like u pointed out. ok. dod he know the effect it was gonna have on gay people 50 years later

I mean, I don't think most of what fans on tumblr 5 years later get excited about is queercoding per se. There is definitely some intentional subtext: a lot of moments with Frank, some of the hawnk stuff, Hawkeye acting flirty or effeminate, Hawkeye and Trapper are sometimes framed as the "other" couple with Frank and Margaret. Klinger is basically a subversion because he's always written and acted as completely straight, but the way people react to him isn't necessarily. There are more direct jokes like Hawkeye pretending to be in love with Frank or Frank's phone call with that guy who thinks he's hitting on him and is totally into it.

But I think people tend to think of queercoding as sending a specific message, as saying "this character is queer but we can't show it openly" and I don't think MASH was doing that. Even if the original ending of George had been left in and Frank was revealed to have once been attracted to a man, Frank's affair with Margaret and references to affairs with secretaries would have continued, and the man probably wouldn't have been referenced again.

Most of the subtext in MASH is played for humor, but it doesn't feel mean-spirited like a lot of gay jokes from that era. This is because MASH basically rolls the queer subtext into the anti-establishment message. Okay, society says gay people are perverted; MASH is pro-perversion. So to the extent that it's intentional, I think it's to that end, and of course to be funny.

I don't think Hawkeye was "coded" as bisexual, it's just very easy to interpret him as bisexual based on intentional choices. A lot of it is cultural context. Hawkeye sleeping with women was enough to reassure straight people in the 70s that he was one of them and his comments about Trapper and Henry's legs were just jokes. (And straight men do make jokes like this, Alan Alda saying Jamie Farr had great legs unprompted at the 30th reunion.)

The vast majority of the intentional queercoding/queer subtext is in the first few seasons. I'm not sure exactly why it dropped off, probably a combination of a changing political climate and the show getting more serious making it harder to get away with it.

I hope I didn't mislead you bringing up La Ronde. I was having fun applying it to Hawkeye and Trapper but given the rest of the episode and what he's said about it, I don't think Alan Alda was actually implying the longjohns represent sex. It's just... fun to imagine they could between Hawkeye and Trapper.

And no I don't think they had any idea what it would do to us 50 years later! Of course, The Longjohn Flap was season 1, and at that point they didn't even know they were going to get another season, let alone be beloved 50 years later! But here we all are anyway and I think they'd be glad to know people are still enjoying the show, and the ones still with us are!

Some quick and dirty gay chicken thoughts before I go into work:

I am loving the discussion of class issues so far, the nuance of the conversation and Wen's relative privilege (different levels of privilege though, esp with the focus on Heart's family home as a setting this ep), the way this presents a perpetually present undercurrent of conflict and realism that really sets the tone of the show and its themes well, I'm super looking forward to seeing how that thread develops!

Love the relationship developing bw Wen and Li Ming, I think it's so sweet that Li Ming can find someone who can listen to him without judgment and basically act as a calm mentor figure (did cringe when Wen tried to relate to his situation with his experience changing majors but I think you're supposed to, again that undercurrent of socioeconomic inequality is always present in the relationships of these characters) when he has such a contentious relationship with the other adult figures in his life, and you know I'm always a hoe for an older queer mentor/younger queer mentee relationship, even if so far the queerness doesn't explicitly factor into this particular relationship I do very much think that subtext is still there esp with the implications of how out of place Li Ming feels as a queer teenager versus how assured Wen is with his sexuality

As well I like that having this relationship develop gives Jim more reason to trust and like Wen - idk I just think Jim sees how sweet Wen is to his cat and his nephew and the things that are important to his life and how he seems to understand how they're important to Jim and like there's no way he's immune to that u know

Don't have much intelligent to say about Heart and Li Ming's relationship I just think it's very sweet and refreshing to have this relatively uncomplicated young love blooming in the face of all the drama brewing up, and Fourth and Gemini are totally nailing that tone of first love so far! My one nitpick about the storyline is I wish they had subtitles for Heart's signing esp now that Li Ming is sort of able to pick up what he means better now - I know you can kind of sus out meanings through Li Ming's responses but I just think it's a bit of a baffling choice not to make a storyline focusing on deafness more accessible

Jim's tragic backstory of his ex partner cheating on him is a very interesting choice in light of I still have no fuckin clue what is happening with Wen and Alan. I'm scared of this storyline and already have my reservations honestly lol but I will wait and see before passing judgment bc I've been really into the writing of the rest of the show so far (also the actual flashback really had me in my feelings... Uncle Jim you deserve all the happiness in the world.......)

(like it's weird that both Wen's father and close friend seem super nonchalant about him obviously having chemistry with this man when they also know about his relationship with Alan right. It's weird that Wen's dad who he has a close relationship with doesn't seem to know if Wen and Alan still together or not but also had that very foreboding line about needing to be unattached when you come together with a new lover. Whatever the fuck is going on there.)

I will never not find it funny that Jim is really out here like "okay this is strictly sex, purely physical, we won't kiss on the mouth or even learn each other's names and there will be absolutely no strings attached" and then still somehow managed to have the most tender one night stand sex I have ever seen. Like Uncle Jim idk what purely physical no feelings or strings attached sex looks like to you but somehow I have the feeling that reverently caressing your lips over every inch of another man's body while tenderly clasping his hand long into the night isn't it

hi!!!! no, this is a great, i think it's an interesting/much needed conversation to have and i've never gotten into it at length so forgive me if i'm less than articulate but basically my jumbled thoughts about this always come back to that alan moore interview that everybody & their mother loves quoting when discussing watchmen and related material

which is funny because i do, in some ways, agree with moore! it's just that what should be applied only to the monopoly marvel movies have on the current cinematic landscape & their status as glorified us military propaganda somehow ended up being applied to all comics & superhero media as a whole, which is ridiculous.

i feel like moore's primary issue is that in the years since watchmen he's lost his love of comics and basically became a rorschach level nihilist about the industry as a whole -- generally understandable as a result of that level of success but concerning when people without his specific circumstances echo these talking points. see, moore used to love comics, i mean he used to be out-of-his-mind-in-love with comics and you can tell that much from watchmen's text alone & the real (very much real!) comic book history found in the text pages and the in-universe pirate comic that could only come from a die hard fan of the medium. hell, you can't write a good deconstruction of the thing without knowing it inside and out but he's by no means the man he was then and his work has lost its appeal to me for this exact reason.

anyway, moving on from that, the general belief seems to be that superheroes are quasi-fascist to begin with -- cops, in effect -- and that their popularity is a sign of a downward slide into fascism and the worship of infantile stories that do not challenge your worldview and offer only comfort. like, this is what the superheroes & fascism conversation often comes down to and in keeping with the watchmen theme, i'll say that's also the most common & nonsensical complaint i've heard about doomsday clock (that and the fact that it doesn't revolve around one single subject ala the cold war in the og book, which is also nonsense). the thing is -- there's nuance here! it's completely nuts to say that an art medium created by jewish immigrants in the middle of wwii is a gateway to fascism, it's just nuts!

the golden age of comics did feature heroes that were idealized figures who respected the law, that's very much true, but there were also heroes who were believed to be criminals (like rex tyler, the 1940s hourman was a wanted man in his solo stories) and the justice society stood for things like hope & friendship but not an undying pledge to serve the us govt. above all, their politics were as explicitly anti-fascist as comics ever got because they were fighting literal nazis! i mean, my god, there was nothing childish about the stakes of that era of comics even if they were aimed at audiences of all ages!

and like, i suppose it's the silver age and not the golden one that most people are nostalgic for and it's the silver age that moore deconstructs in watchmen but that same nuance can be found there and by 1970 (a mere ten years into the silver age!) this exact discussion was being broadcast to the world by dc comics. hell, whatever can be said now about the bootlicker tendencies of the likes of hal jordan & similar characters, denny o'neil was already saying then:

i guess what i'm getting at is that anybody who believes comic books cannot be challenging or liberating or political or sometimes downright revolutionary and anything in-between simply doesn't know comics! like film, like literature, like any art form, its values are up to its authors but the automatic connection between superheroes & fascism in the eyes of so many people is completely ridiculous and the public perception of the medium cannot be left up to mcu.

okay so in our canon glyndwr is not involved in any of the southsun stuff at all — that goes to my wife's commander, alan. glyn was getting poked about "consortium issues, karka acting funny, blah blah" and was essentially like "this is so below my pay grade that i will fucking cut your head off if you ever insult me with a brief like this ever again" and that was that. SO he's more or less oblivious to it outside of alan's letters ("ugh this GUY, we finally got him, so hopped up on painkillers he couldn't even see, there's karka goop everywhere," etc) and the occasional wanted poster here and there

(side note this is the setup for alan and canach's insane hostility during heart of thorns. you throw me in jail? okay, Hero of Tyria, i'm out now and i am going to steal your fucking boyfriend about it)

ANYWAY. post-southsun. as a whispers lightbringer glyndwr had managed to stay mostly anonymous for most of his career, but zhaitan's defeat has blown that into fucking smithereens. suddenly he's just as famous as alan and trahearne and it is making him want to turn himself inside out. running errands is now impossible. one day he's essentially fleeing the paparazzi in lion's arch and while trying to lose them finds himself hiding out where canach is imprisoned.

they get to talking through the bars, glyn smokes him out (something he can get away with as a pact commander even with multiple lionguards looking Directly At Them), and before he knows it glyn is coming back regularly, telling canach about what he's seen on his travels lately and sometimes even bringing him books. it gets to the point where sometimes glyndwr spends all day by canach's cell. the rest is history!!

2: What was their first impression of each other?

canach about glyn: "oh, thank fuck, someone to TALK to. and he's eye candy which is a bonus"

glyn about canach: "[with narrowed eyes] this horrid little man is being rude and flippant to me. no one is rude and flippant to me anymore. what is going on" <- intensely intrigued (and then, a bit later when his memory is jogged: "oh, wait, this horrid little man is the one who tried to explode my lover with land mines on a resort island." <-even more intrigued)

4: Who felt romantic feelings first?

i think they both fell for each other pretty steadily, but canach is definitely the one who recognizes his feelings as such first. glyndwr is too self-obsessed and emotionally withered to Get It until way later.

general 1: Who initiated the relationship, and how did it go?

depends on what's meant by "the relationship," but i have an answer locked and loaded specifically for them being officially entwined so i'm going with that!!

i already have a headcanon that sylvari present weapons as significant romantic gifts, on par with proposing with an engagement ring; this was, coincidentally enough, kicked off by the shield of the moon story!

so, at the end of HoT, when canach offers his shield to glyndwr — already a pretty massive gesture as it is — glyndwr misinterprets it, and they have a frantic little "i'm sorry, do you really want to do this NOW?? RIGHT NOW???" conversation shoehorned into the middle of the terrifying battle for their lives and also the lives of their entire race.

later, when they talk about it more seriously, they end up deciding that yeah, maybe canach actually did mean it that way. so what. what are you going to do about it, idiot. let's just get married. fine. FINE

3: What was their first kiss like?

it depends on if you consider shotgunning to be kissing. if so,

but if not, it was probably something messy and near-accidental in the silverwastes. sandy. not pleasant. not discussed for many many months.

8: Who gets jealous easier?

canach for sure but mostly just bc glyn presents more opportunities for it. i don't imagine they're strictly monogamous (rytlock is certainly popping in and out around here) but like. glyndwr is at constant risk of slipping on a banana peel and accidentally having sex with anyone who is relatively firm/respectful (/charmingly disrespectful?) with him. glyn goes out to buy a carton of milk and through a comedy of errors gets his back blown out four times on the way there and back. glyn somehow managed to fuck ruka the wanderer. it's an affliction

- i give it a 7.5/10!! a ton of the credit goes to the stupid kickable brit and the absolute gilf but everything else was pretty okay!! characters aside, it really wasn’t as scary or as like. immersive as subnautica imo? someone pointed this out on the subreddit and i totally agree but having the seatruck being the only vehicle you need made the deeper parts feel way safer, which sorta just made all the scary parts jumpscares rather than actual terror which i did not love

- now i don’t know if i’m like a total idiot or not with this point but this game felt very. unguided. like once you find alan it’s just a free for all and you have to either wait for him to tell you hey here’s a thing that doesn’t help you at all OR you just wander around aimlessly until you stumble upon something. to be honest though, i started subnautica maybe three ish years ago and i genuinely have no memory of it. i have no idea if i watched a playthrough and knew everything first or went in blind so maybe that’s how the first game is too and i’m just an idiot lmfao, but i googled the coords for everything like i said, and speaking of which tonight’s playthrough should have been way shorter except that i literally could not find the fabricator base or the gate so *shrug*

- this is a minor note that i thought was goofy but my dumb ass did not find outpost zero until i was looking for the gate and i fucking. entered the base and alan started talking to me even though he was already out of my body LMFAO (either the devs did not find this plothole or they did and didn’t think anyone was dumb enough to find it)

hmmmm i cannot say i have thought of grelle from a shipping perspective often! i think that grelle and madame red’s dynamic was very interesting but i do not think that it was a healthy relationship. big supporter of @retrievaldivision’s helen and aphrodite (of iliad fame) takes and that whole thing they’ve got going on (follow tumblr user retrievaldivision). i’ve been pretty forthcoming on my stance that william t spears and grelle are homies but i don’t think i’d be entirely opposed to that but i’m also very. selective? about ship content so a lot of the existing grelliam content doesn’t jive with me especially with how a lot of people write their dynamic (ie grelle is the victim and has never done anything wrong william t spears is cruel and unfeeling etc etc bc that is simply not true and also william t spears is my friend. did they ever think of that.) this isn’t to say good grelliam content is nonexistent but it’s rare for me personally to find stuff i like. honestly i feel like grelle learning to live like on her own would probably be healthiest for her but that’s just my personal take [points at hermit the frog marina on my grelle playlist]. sebastian and grelle is kind of funny bc they both suck and have tried to kill each other but i’m a known sebagni truther. so ultimately for favourite grelle ship i’m gonna have to go with i truly don’t know chief if you’ve got any recs drop em

as far as modern grelle. i cannot say i have thought about this either. most of my. headcanons. are around like the existing kuro universe or some equally fantastical type fiction (i am actually currently writing an ericalan fic based off of the russian folktale the soldier and death in which alan is death and eric is the soldier and it’s going to be based. thanks) so. but as far as modern universe goes i have thought about like the human +1 gang in which sebastian is an agent for some secret organization or another assigned to ciel’s case (parents dying in massive house fire, etc etc) and is like. also undercover as his adoptive father and they live in richpeoplesuburbsTM. agni and soma are their neighbours (agni is soma’s bodyguard and also takes care of him bc his parents are away often). finny and mey rin rent out the basement (they came with the house). they meet at the midford’s white people barbecue/garden party. anyway. so in this situation the reapers are all staff for the middle/high school (shoutout to @retrievaldivision for helping me come up w this also). grelle is the thotty secretary, william t spears is the counsellor, eric is the gym teacher, alan is the gay history teacher (courtesy of retrievaldivision), othello teaches chemistry, and ron is the IT guy. in this universe, grelle and ron are roomies and rent a shitty apt together. they’re obviously not rich because they work at a highschool so it’s not glamorous or anything but it works. i imagine grelle’s wardrobe consists mainly of pencil skirts and button ups. probably wears heels every day. glasses chain stays ON. personality wise much the same but because i am in control she is not pervy and weird. also she does not commit mass murder. like grelle’s general obnoxiousness is an integral part of her personality so i would like to keep that but have her not make unwanted sexual advances at her coworkers. there is something charming about the characters just being like. regular ass people. so. yeah. that’s my take.

hmmmm I like it when an expected trope from canon (or even popular fanon) is subverted because it allows a new perspective on character... when characters are sharing a bed (as in and there was ONLY ONE BED or as in cuddles or as in talking late at night whispering under covers or as in [insert every variation possible]) platonic, romantic, idc beds are the central part of life

I also love when you get crossovers that aren't crossovers where characters get to meet with either an alternate version of themselves (e.g. Mirror Universe in Star Trek) or character from different eras in canon that don't overlap get to meet (e.g. Prequel gang meets the OT folks in Star Wars) For Thunderbirds @tsarinatorment 's A Long Way From Home very neatly fits that bill and is pretty fn, although I know that's not the only one :D

Dunno if any of my fics fit these bills though... they're the kinds of fics I just want to ~*manifest*~ already written for me xD (please leave recs......)

I would be genuinely awed and humbled to think anyone would ever want to do this :D The way I see it, fandom is all about building on each other's ideas and crafting something together as a community and as long as inspiration is tagged/linked (not only for credit but bc hot dang I wanna SEE this!!) all is well imo (why did you have something in mind 👀

U: Is there a pairing you would like to write, but haven’t tried yet.

I much prefer writing family stuff but I am not immune to a spot of romance I think it's fuuun :D and I like to see different possibilities explored so I don't have any strong inclinations towards one pairing over another xD I do have exactly zero confidence in my romance skills so there's a few I'd like to give a go in the future but just haven't :P Included on that list is Scott/Mel (@gumnut-logic's OC), Scott/Havoc (in a very "i hate you let's blow off steam mistakes were made" way), Virgil/Cass (listen.... LISTEN!! I love that they have bff potential but I also love slow burn romance here), Virgil/Brains (fairly popular but it's still sweet :D This version of Brains is a touch older than Scott in my head [there are many iterations of Brains inside me i think about him a lot]) and this one's not a pairing but I do want John to try play matchmaker with disastrous results because I think it would be funny. I'm too attached to Gordon/Penny to give him another beau and I point blank don't ship Alan in TAGverse which is all I write in

omg,,,, okay so coop's gonna take the role of jack in the sense that he's her first real love interest after andy and she tried like alan and there might have been another time there like prue for what it's worth isn't dating she's gone out on like. three four dates it's just nothing's sticking nothing's clicking like. maybe andy was it for her. maybe she doesn't get love after this. meanwhile, a very frustrated cupid is sitting slightly offscreen because there's no way he keeps missing. no way. dude. like. not to brag. but he doesn't miss. something's wrong.

by one misfortune or another, it's valentines day and there has been a spell to summon or to reveal a cupid

or psych no we'll say like somehow cupids are being like cockblocked from their powers but we'll say it in a more professional term there's like a magical faraday cage around san francisco and cupid's can't get their magic to work and valentine's day is right around the corner and there are hate demons just tearing up couples so hi yeah you have to do something

and blah blah blah they are doing something plot plot plot that's not what we're here for tho we're here for the relationship. bc coop's explaining how cupids work how they try to guide people together you know they see a spark they're there to fan the flames

and the first thing prue asks is do soulmates exist and coop almost laughs. like we get a the good place if soulmates exist they're not found they're made. no love is predestined. you're not designed with one other half and only one other have. love exists in all places, in all forms, you just have to know where to find it

and piper and leo are like looking at each other having their Moment phoebe and dan are having their because hell yeah they are and prue's just like :/

and idk they have to do something and it's like. piper's making a potion or whatever and phoebe and dan are like trying to heal peoples love idk but to undo this cage we need a cupid so coop ur on mission However we also need to fight all the demons to get coop there so as the witch with the offensive power prue you're also on mission

and prue's just kind of been bitter and jaded towards coop the whole time but you know she'll go with him to save love because part of her hopes that you know. if they save love. maybe as a thank you you know they could throw her a bone maybe point her to new love.

but she doesn't really like entertaining that hope. because like. i don't know she doesn't man she doesn't want to keep hoping because she keeps getting kicked in the shins over and over again and how many blows can she be expected to take her

and coop's like you know think of love as like snowflakes no two are the same what you had with andy was beautiful and it was love and i'm not going to lie you're not going to get that again. you won't get that love again. but that doesn't mean that you won't love, or be loved. there's so much love out there, prue. you just have to let it in

and prue's like wow u make it sound so romantic too bad i'm actually on the ground here and i know it's not just that easy it's not like you know like i have all these options that love is just pouring at my feet here

and coop laughs again because come on. you're prue halliwell. you're strong, talented, powerful, romantic. you have so much love in your heart, it's obvious in everything you do, it the way you care for your family, in your photography in your this and your that and coop kinda gets carried away in a what makes you beautiful monologue and prue's looking at him like goddamn. because that's the most romance she's heard in a while

but then coop clears his throat because whoops haha that was probably a bit too much prolly crossed a line there and prue pulls out of the moment bc right he's a cupid that's just his job he doesn't mean anything by it you're nothing special in his eyes okay time to go kill some demons!!

and they do it and they get the cupid magic back up and running so um. great work team! be seeing you never, i guess? and coop's like ready to vanish back into the ether or whatever it is cupids do but he and prue have a moment he says one final last line about love it's out there it's beautiful you're gonna find it i promise and then maybe a forehead kiss for good measure bc those are great

and the episode ends with prue on a date a p3 and it's going well like it's going fine she's not fully present but like. well. :|. and homeboy goes in for a kiss and prue pulls back and she's like i'm sorry. i just. i can't do this.

and she leaves p3 walks out into the parking lot like goddamn and coop's like come on was my monologue for nothing?
