okay im gonna say a problem thats really been bagging at me. and its 'the angels are bad because they dont know what gets someone into heaven shtick'

but like... we do know? we know that you have to be a good person and not a douchbag (ik adams in heaven but im assuming that he was good at first and then turned evil although this is just an assumption)

like sir pentious was the least problematic out of the cast (that could go to heaven) and he did end up getting redeemed. so we know that you have to be a good person now do we know what qualifies as 'good'? no.

but actually counter argument, do we know what qualifies as bad? because if good and bad are opposites of each other then in order to be considered 'good' you just dont have to be bad. if its considered 'bad' not to steal then dont steal. if its considered 'bad' not to lie then dont lie.

does hell know what gets a demon down there? we dont know. all we know is that heaven doesnt know what qualifies someone as good. not to mention im pretty sure that they aren't in charge if whether or not a soul passes the pearly gates. im pretty sure thats some higher being.

sera and emily seemed pretty darn shocked the sir pentious (a sinner) was there in the first place so its clear that they were never really in charge of who enters heaven so while yes this made the court case kinda... pointless- i dont think that this made them evil.

charlie didnt know what made a soul able to enter heaven either and while yes she isnt heaven born so she would have no reason to need to know it still makes me groan every time it comes up because like-

point is that i dont see why it instantly makes heaven the 'bad guys' in the fact that they dont know what makes a soul able to enter heaven. especially the seraphims. its clear that theyre not in charge of who enters heaven so theyve had no reason to know that stuff. theyve had no reason to know why a soul passes the pearly gates. they never thought of redemption so why does that make them the bad guys (also before you go off its clear the emily never thought of it although she is willing to give it a try being more open minded). its a new idea that most likely might throw off the balance of heaven in some way so yes some people are scared to try it. it doesnt make them bad

post nwh and endgame

i’ve been fixating on how peter’s mindset could evolve after nwh and it’s driving me insane because i can’t figure out how to word my thoughts so here are rlly random notes from my notes app.

peter who has developed the most outrageous trust issues while still maintaining a very.. weird moral / belief system / mindset (?)

peter who has lost complete trust in himself, he’s accepted that no matter how hard he tries he’ll always end up getting someone hurt OR hurting himself— he who knows that he’s trying to do the right thing but doesn’t trust that he’s actively doing it, he’s been manipulated before, what’s stopping that from happening again?

on the other hand, he sees the good in people and believes that everyone has the ability to do better in them, but he has no faith in people’s abilities to make the right decisions or do the right thing, how could ned and mj decide to stay associated with him when they don’t know how great life was without him?

peter who projects his self sacrificial tendencies onto other people, so what if ned and mj somehow knew how the twos lives would turn out without him? they still wouldn’t make the right choice— they would stay by his side and sacrifice the perfect life because of some moral obligation ( the same way may and ben did, the same way tony did. ) and how was that fair? they shouldn’t do something so damaging because it’s the “right thing”

but that doesn’t apply to him, he knows it’s hypocritical but atleast this way they don’t know he’s hurting them— if he chose to reintroduce himself imagine the pain they’d be going through?

he leans more and more into his own negative tendencies, he gets more reckless and makes decisions he knows aren’t good for him, he pours all of his energy into helping others because isn’t that what hero’s do?

he considers himself a threat and doesn’t trust that people coming into his life have good intentions, how does he know you’re real? what if you’re being manipulated— peter can’t be trusted around anyone, he’s going to get them hurt. he completely isolates himself because that way nobody he cares about can get hurt and he’s able to protect HIMSELF from others.

I'm always torn between wanting to say that John and Connor had to work together more than the game let's on and taking the game for its word and saying that they have only met a couple time sporadically. Both are deeply fascinating ideas to me.

Like I don't need to explain why them working together more often is compelling. They would just know each other better and the fact that John says he had only met Connor a few times despite him clearly admiring him is all a product of their fallout.

On the other hand, the idea that they had only met a few times here or there is also incredibly fascinating because that means John would have completely put Connor on a pedestal based on his assumptions and opinions without actually knowing the guy and just believing what everyone else said. Which is also so so so interesting because like why? Why would John need to do this? There's no reason to like admire or look up to Connor but he did! Also not to mention it makes the fact that he continuously defends him in St*nes Unt*rned just that much more "sad". Like this guy is just not willing to drop the "vision" he made of Connor.

I like the thought of ‘niffining out’ which would be the winx club equivalent of a fairy becoming dark or being revived being like their magic eating them from the inside out. Take for example daphne her magic quite literally burned her from the inside out, and nabu he felt nothing but disorienting darkness. When aisha went dark it was as if she was weighed down by water almost as if she was drowning, and it started climbing up her throat until it started to choke her and she coughed it up.

welcome to grimetown, aj! now let's get down to slimy business...

it's another day at work. you’re called to the bastard boulevard apartments to make some repairs alongside scamming repairman!kishibe. the apartment you're scheduled to fix has some holes that need patching, something about the tenant's freeloading roommate deciding to pursue a new career as a stuntman... you don't really know, but a paycheck is a paycheck.

on your way in, you notice some rats scurrying under the furniture (you seem to recall this apartment complex being strictly no pets, but you're willing to look the other way).

anyways, you know how these things play out... you're working along your fellow scamming repairman!kishibe when he tells you he's found another hole that needs patching... you go at it like those same rats, except you're not just ravaging the apartment, but each other's bodies <3

after a thorough inspection of the apartment, you're able to find a handful of other absolutely necessary (you and kishibe nearly destroying the whole apartment in your lust) repairs totaling over a thousand dollars each! fortunately, the roommate gives you the top-knotted tenant's billing information before you leave!

META META META how about something with regards to the fact that misaki and aoi look so similar; i remember we were yelling about that at one time, when i was liveblogging my mars red breakdown to you XD

(Apologies in advance. This might not make a lot of sense.)

You know, after rewatching episode one, I think the similarities between Aoi and Misaki are meant to contrast Maeda and Shutaro. 

Because Maeda and Misaki, right, are a tragedy. They’re a tragedy that reaches its climax in episode 1 and leaves you mildly confused as to who Misaki is, what’s going on with Maeda (god knows that man doesn’t show what he’s thinking or feeling) and why we’re supposed to care, other than that a very pretty woman who was only mostly crazy has just killed herself in broad daylight. But the interesting thing is--Misaki and Aoi, as foils for each other, is set up in that episode. These are two characters who have never met and yet it’s very obvious that they’re connected somehow. 

(ep1, Aoi and Maeda. It’s fairly obvious that Maeda is Jokanaan from the start, but Aoi’s shadow overlaying Misaki’s image is very clear foreshadowing here.)

They’re both extremely kind people. They both look very similar. They’re both connected in some way to the two male leads of Mars Red. 

And, interestingly--they’re both kind to Defrott. 

After looking at the manga, it seems to me like they split Aoi into two characters for the anime--Aoi, whom Shutaro loves, and Misaki, whom Maeda loves. And I think it’s telling that Defrott loves them both in his “cannot bear to attach himself to humanity and companionship yet craves to be treated like a younger sibling” fashion. 

God, Defrott. I could talk for hours about that guy. Anyway. 

In sum: yes! Lots of similarities! Once you watch ep7 and you see the sort of person Misaki is (gentle, loving, quietly pining for her silly fiancee who is busy amputating his own arm/hunting vampires/overworking himself) you realize that not only does she look like Aoi, but they’re fundamentally the same sort of person. 

But here’s the thing about the both of them. They’re both inherently tied to the central narrative of Mars Red by their relation to the two male leads, Maeda and Shutaro. So then you can look at those pairs in tandem and see how they’re meant to mirror each other. 

For both of them, there’s a separation involving vampirism--Shutaro and Misaki--and a separation involving war--Shutaro again and Maeda. But their stories end differently, which I think is the whole point here. 

Aoi lives. Shutaro lives. According to that one interview I keep referencing, they both find their way back to each other in the end. There’s hope there, for the younger characters. 

And yet for Maeda and Misaki, everything is too little, too late. Maeda is too late to see Misaki perform Salome, even though according to Defrott, that was what she hoped for. He was too late to prevent her fatal accident. He’s too late to save her from madness and death. And it’s no surprise that Maeda, in the anime, suffers the exact same fate--he’s turned by Defrott in a mirror of what he did to Misaki, goes crazy, and dies in the same location that Misaki did. 

(I would like to point out that in the manga, Aoi also gets put into a life or death situation that Shutaro just barely saves her from, as in the anime. But instead of it occurring in the ruins of Maeda’s military base, Shutaro saves her from falling debris--

in the theater that Misaki died in, in the anime. Just some more neat parallels demonstrating what Aoi situations were given to Misaki.)

But Shutaro is pointedly just in time. He saves Aoi from death (and she’s still wearing!! Misaki’s costume!! It’s painful, because it was the only thing that saved her from Maeda’s rampage!!), he kills Maeda before he himself is killed, and he reunites with Aoi in the end. 

Their plotline is about contrasting hope with tragedy and time, being on time versus being too late. And man if it doesn’t fuck me up every time I see it.
