you’ve decided that you absolutely love the way yeonjun rolls his joints.

there’s nothing special about it, of course. you’ve watched him countless times, folding the rolling paper with hazed concentration, carefully packing the perfectly grounded weed inside. it’s the stupid sleeveless shirt he insisted on wearing today, stolen from soobin’s closet after a fifteen minute banter—as you’re told, because it’s ‘too hot outside’ to wear a short-sleeved t-shirt instead.

his arms are bare, smooth skin stealing the attention of your gaze the moment you walked into his apartment a few minutes ago, and you still haven’t gotten over it. not when yeonjun rolls the unfinished joint between his fingers, involuntarily flexing his forearms as he does so, flitting his eyes towards you as he asks in question to your silence, “you good?”

perfect. you simply nod, untrusting of your words at the moment. he smiles lightly, getting back to work as you let your eyes wander once again, finding yourself caught up on your friend a lot more than you usually do.

that’s not to say you haven’t thought about him in the past, when he’s invited you over to sit on the overpriced outdoor furniture outside on his balcony, sporting a handsome smile and tousled hair, getting you higher than taehyun’s gummies ever have. the other boy swears his working on increasing his milligram count, but you think it’s a little more than that.

you’re on-your-knees, borderline inappropriately attracted to yeonjun; clearly, considering you watch a little too intently as he raises the joint upwards, licking a quick stripe to seal the paper. fuck, if you leaned in just a bit closer, you could waft the addictive cologne he’s rubbed on his neck, one you gifted him on his birthday last year, and maybe it’d get you off in ways you definitely shouldn’t be thinking about.

yeonjun finally lights the joint, slowly rotating it in his fingers as he does so, sharp eyes focused on perfection. it was hard to believe how much he cared how intentionally his joints were lit (price inflation?).

a gentleman as always, he places the joint to your lips with a gentle expression of want to go? and you couldn’t imagine saying no to him.

how could you? pretty boy perched next to you, legs spread in such an inviting position—you’ve almost lost it already. eyelashes fluttering, you inhale deeply, trying to ignore the way his fingertips pressing lightly at your lips, keeping the smoke contained from the very beginning. you wonder how his lips would feel on yours, maybe for a little longer than you should.

when he pulls away, you lull your head back, your body slumping, easily enamoring yourself in the sudden joust of pleasure. it makes you forget where you are momentarily, giggling in a daze as you part your lips, letting the smoke leave your mouth.

“all that with one hit?” yeonjun teases, and your eyes meet his with a roll of annoyance. there’s a smirk dancing on his lips, playfully as you watch the smoke bellow around him, slowly releasing from the corner of his mouth. always so fucking pristine, a perfectionist if you will.

“it’s been a long day,” you say in response, furrowing your eyebrows as the boy shrugs, passing off the joint. “remember how my manager told me to recruit another intern for our team?”

“hmm,” he hums, running a hand through his hair as he watches you inhale again, relaxing your head back as you always do. he finds it so innocent, the way your jaw relaxes as the weed takes its effect, and your lips, as inviting and plump as always, opens only to the smoke.

there’s a sort of numbing feeling, either from watching your jaw slack, mouth open, eyes closed with a string of dense fog surrounding your face or simply the high he’s slowly losing to watching you. it’s almost intoxicating, how you tilt your head to him, small smile lining your lips, offering him another hit as you continue speaking.

“i referred taehyun, you know,” your eyes are narrowed now, gazing nearly shamelessly at yeonjun when he’s unsuspecting. “dude’s got a fucking stellar resume. but they hired this other guy instead, and he’s just been following me around like he’s my intern.”

“yeah? what’s he like?”

sharp eyes trail on you carefully, watching intently as you subconsciously dart out your tongue, licking along your bottom lip before going off on one of your usual ramblings. it’s so easy to get lost in the way you look, yeonjun thinks, especially when he’s slowly prodding a ‘wow’ or ‘no way’ into your rants every so often, just so you don’t get so caught up in the way he’s absolutely undressing you with his eyes.

he can’t help it, you’ve always been so difficult to be around after a certain hour at night; when the clock strikes midnight and he hears, from a distance, the university bells signaling the arrival of tomorrow, you take his invitations with open arms, spreading your legs on his couch and marking your spot. it’s not as though he spends his time smoking in pg rating with other girls at 2 a.m. anyway, that’s all reserved for you.

the dark-gray shorts and white t-shirt combination is maybe his favorite ever, he thinks, as you suddenly flail your arms up in sudden annoyance, screaming about some ‘and he fucking asks me again!’, the uneven hem of your shirt riding up slightly, exposing the smallest sliver of skin. yeonjun’s mind wanders to where you might’ve gotten this shirt; maybe he should ask you before he tears it off of you.

yeah, maybe it’s time for another hit.

and your voice blurs more than it did before, surprisingly, sounding increasingly more attractive with every word that leaves your mouth. yeonjun’s dazed, drunk on how you lean towards him, chest forward before your face, reaching to grab his joint with your perfect, graceful fingers. in a split second, he moves it out of your reach, smiling lazily when your eyebrows furrow in confusion.

“want me to shotgun you?” he asks with a tilt of his head, words spilling from his mouth impulsively. your forehead smoothes at the question, maybe a little too casually for his liking, and you shrug a nonchalant sure. “i–have we done this before?” he’s got to be crazy, he’s never lost his memory smoking weed ever in his lifetime.

“no,” you’re trying to search his eyes, “hmm, taehyun’s shotgunned me before, though.”

the innocent shining of your eyes paired with your response has yeonjun suddenly giggling, making him place a hand over his mouth as if it would mask anything. oh, he hadn’t known you could be this cute, whining lightly as you question his laughter. when he catches his breath finally, planting his sight back on you, he simply pats the seat right beside him, “come here, i’ll show you.”

you’re quick to oblige, your body buzzing from the marijuana in your bloodstream, keeping you warm even as a cool breeze blows by. yeonjun’s presence is ever-so comforting, more so than ever, and you nearly have to hold yourself from resting your head against his shoulder. with parted lips in unadulterated awe, you watch as the dark-haired boy takes a long drag, the simple motion appearing astonishingly alluring. you’re hooked on deep, and there’s nothing to save you.

but when yeonjun turns towards you, suddenly holding the side of your face–thumb pressing down on your bottom lip to keep your mouth open, and moves impossibly close, you practically freeze.

heart in your throat, his eyes beckon you to fill in the gap, never faltering. when you shuffle close enough, cautiously grabbing onto his forearm—you can almost taste the ghost of his lips, barely an inch away—he exhales straight into your mouth.

oh…your eyes flutter shut at the soft sensation, your fingertips pressing tightly into his arm as you let the high course through your body. maybe it’s because you’ve already taken too many hits (how many times?), but the intimacy has you buckling down even faster, the rate possibly record-breaking in guinness terms.

yeonjun’s waiting when you open your eyes, nearly blowing the excess smoke right into his face, yet he isn’t fazed. it wouldn’t matter anyway, no, you could do anything to him and he’d take it without hesitation.

“wow,” you mutter, laughing breathlessly as your friend plasters on a stunning smile. “yeah, i definitely haven’t done that before.”

good. taehyun would be dead otherwise. his hand’s found solace resting on your thigh (when did it get here?), barely grasping at the flesh with nimble fingers. the material of your shorts are soft against his skin, loosely covering you, reminding him of just how easy it would to simply tug—

“can i try?” yeonjun’s fighting inner demons at this rate, testing the deep levels of his self control. he lets you do as you will (of course, why not?), eyes widening when you shift onto your knees, cautiously placing one in between in his legs. he’s gripping on your waist now—just lightly in case you’re overwhelmed, hoping he doesn’t look incredulous with the way he stares at you taking another hit, absolutely enamored with every move you make.

there’s a flash of desire in the way your pupils dilate, suddenly hyper-fixated on your best friend’s exposed arms. it’s driving you crazy, your mind wandering back and forth—palm grazing up his bicep, feeling the taut muscle beneath your fingers. yeonjun’s gaze wanders on you, quietly leaning forward and putting out the joint against the ashtray.

you’re looking down at him now, hovering over him in a less than platonic way, glancing between his eyes and lips. opening his mouth, he guides your jaw back towards him, warping you in far too close than the previous time. everything is so heightened, senses tingling from the ends of your finger to your nose—which barely brushes his—and you exhale.

you’re a natural, yeonjun thinks, from how you don’t let your stream falter, giving him a high just as well as yours. as you finish, you realize you’ve moved your hand to grip at the junction between his shoulder and neck, leaving slightly reddened marks against his skin.

“sorry,” you mumble, trying to rub them away, but yeonjun merely brushes it off, instead pressing your hand back against him. “i didn’t mean to…”

you lose your voice to the dead of the night, faltering when he runs his thumb back over your bottom lip, eyes scanning your face. when you all but gape at him, he takes it as his invitation to yank you down, crashing your lips against him.

he’s kissing you feverishly, desperate for the way you let out the slightest sound of surprise before surrendering completely, finding it more than difficult to keep you perched above him. your legs are spread over him, nearly lewd in the way you press up against him, drinking him up to the very last drop.

even when you lean back, disoriented from how the world around you spins miraculously, grinning from ear to ear, yeonjun pulls you back. licking into your mouth, begging for anything physical, feeling you up from the sides. oh.

“yeonjun,” you’re panting, dodging him lightly as he tries to chase you. blinking dazingly, your fingers find purchase in his dark locks, gripping a lot harder than you would’ve done sober. “jun—i didn’t know you liked me like that. i thought we were just friends.”

you’re giggling under your breath as he groans, now tightly wrapping both arms around your waist. it’s so contagious, how your smile lights up your entire face, and he can’t help but match your expression. “what am i meant to do, y/n? have you seen yourself?”

you scrunch up, now gazing at your hands as if you’ve never experienced them before. “i’m seeing myself…”

yeonjun clicks his tongue, gathering your attention with a humorous look on his face. “fucking gorgeous, right?” you start giggling again, shying away when he presses a kiss to the corner of your lips.

“mm, but you’re hot,” you all but whine, overcome with confidence when you lean in, molding your mouth against his with an adrenaline-filled fervor. hands run down the sides of yeonjun’s neck, circling around until you’re grasping at him. you gasp while he delivers the smallest licks to your lips, taking advantage of your open mouth.

he sucks on your tongue—such an obscene action in your usual book, yet you can’t care. laughter racks up through your chest when his impulses get the best of him, sinking his teeth into your tongue hard enough to elicit the most indecent sound.

you’re lucky you’re high, or else you’d be doubling over in embarrassment at your behavior. you’d have to thank yeonjun for getting you stoned later.

“hey,” he calls for you, thumb caressing your cheek, “you’ll let me kiss you after this, right?”

you climb off of him, much to his dismay—laying down against the cushions, stretching your legs, opening your arms—grinning up at your friend. shirt riding up, exposing your midriff as you make a show of your position, nudging him with your legs.

he's giving in to your beckoning, palms grazing your thighs, gripping and tugging, slotting between your legs. caging you in with his arms, you woo dramatically at his biceps, pecking at the skin with quiet giggles. “yeonjun…”

he hums, admiring you softly, desire and longing lingering behind his eyes.

“you can have me anyway you want,” you whisper, igniting a fire in his stomach, roping him down in your embrace with a tantalizing kiss. now tangled amongst you, prying mindlessly at clothing that seems so unnecessary in the moment.

But if I had to pick one thing that just screams Beomgyu it would be sucking his teeth when he’s annoyed.

He probably doesn't even realize he’s doing it so then when you call him out he’s like, “No, I literally didn’t.”

Also just says the most outrageous princess-behavior-ish things ever.

His smart mouth makes you want to smack him sometimes.

You learn early on that he has an attitude problem.

hiiii here are some drawings for a Yellowjackets/The Shining AU. Basically just YJ characters in outfits from The Shining / stills from The Shining (+ the symbol in lieu of “redrum”). There’s a lot more I wanted to do with this - maybe when I have more time I can draw the rest of the characters?? I have ideas for Tai and Laura Lee and Van and Misty…

anyway here’s my thoughts on what the story would be like:

(also note that I read the book more recently than i’ve seen the movie but the two have kinda blended together in my head)

So Lottie has similar abilities to Danny in The Shining. premonitions, etc. she “shines”

Tai (and maybe Laura Lee?) also has supernatural abilities. I say maybe Laura Lee bc in The Shining, Danny’s mentor also “shines”. Laura Lee is definitely a bit of a mentor to Lottie… but Laura Lee would have a Catholic™️ explanation for Lottie’s abilities

Tai would repress her abilities the most, being as rational as she is

I think Shauna is the most like Jack in The Shining (but not really bc that's such an insult to her)… I can see how the hotel’s evil vibes would impact her the most because she holds on to a lot of resentment

ok, so how did the girlies end up at the Overlook hotel?

Like Danny, Lottie had an imaginary friend as a child (who turns out to be her adult self, just like Danny's friend "Tony" is actually adult Danny). Recently, she's been seeing this "imaginary" friend again in her dreams, and seeing a strange symbol... (I really gotta draw this so I can draw Simone Kessell as a cool vision)

I was thinking that during the Nationals qualifying game, Lottie has a bad feeling about what would happen should they go to Nationals... so she interferes and stops Jackie from scoring (I guess she'd be close enough to block the shot)

Everyone is mad at Lottie, and her rich ass dad decides to fund a training trip for the team to make it up to the school/team. He gets a good deal to send the team to the Overlook hotel for a week during the beginning of the time period where the hotel is typically closed to guests (the hotel would have to have a good soccer field in this AU, but also bc its up in the mountains they could do altitude training there).

The coaches would have to tend to the boiler room / perform Jack's caretaking duties from The Shining while they're staying there. I think Shauna would help out, and she'd find the scrapbook documenting the hotel's murderous history. As a journal girl herself, she'd be interested in the scrapbook and the hotel's history (like Jack, that's how she'd get corrupted by the evil hotel).

I could see Van also taking an interest in the hotel's history, because she loves a good story. She'd drag Taissa around the hotel to explore and try to uncover its history.

Of course, the snow storm from The Shining would come early, unexpectedly trapping them all at the hotel. Shining shenanigans ensue, etc.

Like Jack, Misty would sabotage their attempts to escape the hotel bc she's having so much fun with the girls... she'd dump the fuel to the snowmobile, etc.

My brain is composed of sludge 3 AM thoughts and this idea came to mind. So the following content are just ideas of what I'd like to write... But can't because of time constraints but I'd love to share them either way, so yay.

💚 I would LOVE to write fics based on the first song to play in my playlist after I put on shuffle. Like... Send in some Riddleman variation, then I'd tap on shuffle and whatever song is on I'll write the Riddleman with it. You get me???

💚 I would love to write a detailed make-out sesh with YJ Riddler just cos. Make him feel all sorts of thing, make him feel soft, hard just akcnsncjdocj I love him ok

💚 I want to write a Gotham Edward x reader wherein Reader shares semblance with Kristen. So basically Reader is taking the place of Isabella but instead of stubbornly staying in the relationship and dying, reader has enough self-preservation and respect to recognise the fact that Edward only loves them because of their semblance with his dead ex gf that he killed. Not yet a fleshed out idea, but that's the whole gist

💚 I'm not very confident about writing Zero Year Edward but... He reminds me of Mitski's songs, "A loving feeling" and "Lonesome love". Idk, he just possess the vibes of that one guy that will make you think you're in a relationship when in fact... You're not, and he's just letting you tag around because having someone like you reflects well on him and other thah that, he is also a sadistic fuck.

I just... The angst material from the Reader attempting to break things of with him and yet he will always manage to pull you back... I my to repeat the process until you're drained.

💚 Fell in love of the idea of including Query and Echo in fics. Expect them to appear here in the future. And maybe an OC associated with them.

🖤 Gotham Penguin having a child, and said child is running for the student council. Like daddy, they will get what they want with any means necessary... Blackmailing other candidates, perhaps maiming some of them and father dearest couldn't be more proud.

🤍 Gotham Penguin once again, I just have like the me tal image of him being a good dad, okay? Anyways, I pictured his child making him a paper crane and he still keeps that same crane hidden in his drawer, along with whatever his child gives him. Letters, drawings, flowers, you name it.

🧡 Masters of Fear Jonathan being distrustful boy towards a student that's taken a liking to them and tries his best to be as nasty as possible to them, but failed. One day he calls them over at the back of the school in private to kill them and so as he his trembling hands hold their neck, he tries to read Reader's features because he wants to see the fear in their eyes as he squeezes the life out of them. Reader, thinking that Jonathan was just hesitating to kiss them, takes it upon themself to initiate the 'kiss', leaving Jonathan shock and Reader alive.

🧡 Harley Quinn Jonathan being protective of his psychologist spouse that works in Arkham. Just, some juicy marital drama ensues.

💜 I want to write an innuendo-filled dressing room shenanigans between theater actor Music Meister and theater technician Reader.

💜 Just a platonic fic between Dennis and Reader, Dennis being at his lowest and in need of comfort. I live for comforts such as these.

but let’s talk about tyun. what do you mean about him liking someone like beomgyu?? i mean…. i never think about him like that. to me he and beomgyu were always just friends and i mean like i have a best friend and i love her but i wouldn't date someone with her personality. it's not that I think she's bad, it's just that being friends and being in a relationship (=being attracted) with someone with the same personality is a little different? but idk about taehyun and beomgyu, maybe i just really don’t think about this well…

im actually gonna take this ask in a different direction than you maybe originally meant it in so i apologize for that however i think my interpretations work best if i specifically use the loonaverse versions of the members because for 1 it just fits together a little better in my head if i connect these fictional characters to the fictionalized versions of these irl people, if that makes sense. and 2 im also just very autistic about the loonaverse. sorry

ok so despite the fact that i associate lola w that specific pic of yj, i find her more in line with yves, narratively speaking. because, well. yves is a fucking player. sneaking out to go on dates with vivi, stringing along chuu to make her partake of the fruit, recruiting her to convince gowon to do the same, fucking hyeju over, and THEN after hyeju had her little angry moment, yves just flashed her a smile and a wave to make her forgive her???? she has everyone wrapped around her finger. it’s crazy. two little baddie rulebreakers who WILL get what they want through love and/or war. love them

as for pinky, i debated on this one a bit. on one had there’s the undeniable rich girl swag of haseul. on the other, the princess-like charms of gowon were tempting. but ultimately? she’s a yeojin girl. her debut concept was so cute and quirky, but still with a distinct attitude to it that very much gives spoiled youngest and/or only child. she also has that same princess vibe, but a little more bright and youthful compared to gowon’s darker/more somber side of it. beyond debut, yeojin’s persona develops to lean more into that sassier vibe with the cuter aspects becoming more of an undertone which is very pinky to me

mandy… this one is flexible for me as well, between heejin or jinsoul. ppl usually say this about hyeju, but i actually think heej and soul have more “two sides of the same coin” qualities which kinda makes me wanna use them as a pair? like a duality if that makes sense. they’re both kinda morally ambiguous, heejin leaning more towards good and jinsoul more neutral/possibly evil, and also seem to have a lot more like. knowledge about the universe they’re in. like they’re very Aware of things and both attempt to exercise control over their surroundings a lot. jinsoul’s methods (allegedly!) are more Morally Questionable which is kinda where mandy leans, but i think the conflict between the two (as seen in not friends) can represent her change in how she views people and approaches relationships after… everything. they’re also both super gay

for beatrice i think maybe vivi? it’s mostly vibes based here. but vivi being an android is shown to be something that alienates her from her peers and makes her insecure in herself, despite the fact that she’s probably smarter and more talented than most if not all of them because of it. she still just wants to fit in and be a normal girl with friends who like her. later on, vivi’s android powers are shown to be more of an asset that can help her and her friends when they need it. i mean she literally piloted a space ship by herself for presumably several years to help them jump timelines or something. i think beatrice would appreciate that. plus, i think the edily concept can represent her more girly and romantic side. real yearner girl hours

now for zoe. hyeju. she’s hyeju. no debate really. they’re both initially characterized by their anger, having been hurt and betrayed and feeling really alone and isolated. hyeju is kinda viewed as a villain or a bad person because of her anger and craving for revenge, and while she can be volatile, at the end of the day she’s kinda just. a kid who was hurt. and yeah maybe she isn’t the “perfect victim”, she’s rude and angry and lashes out at people whether they deserve it or not. but she still didn’t deserve to be hurt the way she was. and she very much IS capable of love and forgiveness and she can eventually mend what was broken if she accepts the help offered to her. it just might take her a little extra time and some people willing to give her a chance. and also forgive some possible alleged murders but that’s not important

YES. Ok so more thoughts:

Their connectedness to each other has weakened their bonds to their Entities(ex. Tim isn't constantly alone anymore), so other avatars try to separate them, be it by coaxing their target away or killing the others. YJ does not vibe with that. They've killed so many people who tried to take them from each other(they're definitely more murdery in this because tma so yeah). The other avatars eventually learn to leave it because there's no stopping them.

Sometimes Tim does just have to be alone for the Lonely. When he needs that, he goes to Drake Manor. YJ lets him because they get the need to act on his nature(what would Cassie be without the chase, Bart without speed, Conner without unnerving abnormality?), but eventually they drag him back. Usually they go together to get him, but sometimes Bart will just nyoom him back in 0.5 seconds.

They have had impromptu sleepovers in a large and varied selection of places, but never Drake Manor.

They all had different reactions to realizing they weren't fully human/technically serving evil entities. Bart, after a brief moral twinge, was basically like 'cool guess I'm doing this now'. Conner never knew anything else, so he was chill. Cassie panicked for a while after she started killing. It got worse when she realized she enjoyed it, until a member of the Hunt found her and explained it. She got more used to it, but the horror didn't fully go away until she met Conner and Bart, who were both so comfortable with themselves that she began to become comfortable with herself. Tim tried...vaguely to not become an avatar. At first, he thought it was mental illness and tried therapy, but gave up pretty early on. Eventually, he realized something supernatural was happening, and went out to find answers. On the way he found the rest of YJ.

Tim was the last to join. Bart and Conner met first when Bart just straight up crashed into Conner, then they helped Cassie escape from the police after a kill. The three of them found Tim sneaking unnoticed through a highly secure government facility(don't ask how they got there, they don't know either), and were like 'yeah that's weird'.

So yeah, there's more rambling lol. I could probably say more but long post lol :)) thanks for asking!

ok obviously I’m very much a Tai/Van shipper til I die (with all the trauma they’re not Great for each other + their adult circumstances now, but I love them lol) but I also have Vibes for the other YJs:

Nat: I could see it (*and that dream I had about them doesn’t help!!). It might be a bit rocky since they weren’t exactly the closest on the team, but as adults, I think they could find interest in a sort of “I’m here, you’re here” vibe (and I think Van finds Nat attractive).

Misty: With how long it’s been and how long Van’s not been aware of what’s happened in the present timeline, I don’t know what her vibe is with Misty, but there could always be a possibility.

Shauna: Van definitely thinks she’s straight and would be Very Surprised if she was flirted with.

Lottie: Oh Boy. Man. Van’s like, initial confusion about her own survivability in the wilderness to then being Lottie’s acolyte, and seeing her after nearly 30 years again, and willingly being the one to cancel the call for institutionalizing Lottie? I could see a lot of devoted/devotee vibes with them, but also just kind of an unknown vibe for what their dynamic would be like. But I’m here for it, lmao.

I’m leaving it at that for now because we don’t know out of the rest of the team who actually survived to adulthood yet (they could still reveal others like Mari, Akilah, etc) so we’ll see in the coming seasons.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF YOUNG JUSTICE: DARK CRISIS #6

...........that’s really how it ends, huh?

Ok.

*sigh* .....Is it the fact that they literally silenced the only openly queer character for pretty much this whole last floppy and never actually brought in the only character of color from the OG team, or does this comic feel.... Second Wave Feminism.

This comic feels Second Wave Feminism and Trying To Hit Third Wave Feminist Talking Points and Missing All of Them.

Like, what is this? Are we still saying sorry for things they didn’t DO, specifically to Cassie? This???? Isn’t true. At all. I WENT BACK! I CHECKED! I read the first couple comics the girls were first in AND the YJ: Secret Files, THESE ARE LIES! BART NEVER DID THIS! HE NEVER INDICATED HE FELT THIS WAY!

At WORST, there is a brief moment where he thinks Cassie’s a bitch (to interpret his pictographic thought bubbles), but it wasn’t because she was “the new girl” or “going to change things” - it was because she was being mean to him for no reason, cause she was jealous Conner was giving Cissie attention. Because shock of all shocks, Cassie was a young teenaged girl with normal human flaws - you know, a good character. The girls were pretty much immediately considered valued members of the team, and Bart was the entire reason Cissie went to Young Justice in the first place, you know, because THEY WERE FRIENDS FIRST.

I can buy Conner feels this way, but I think it’s way more nuanced than what Fitzmartin indicates in these short and sweet thought boxes, and idk if SHE knows it’s more nuanced than this. Conner has a history of feeling like he needs to protect people. Especially after Tana’s death. There’s a strong argument that Tana’s death caused Conner to treat Cassie differently BECAUSE he felt like he had to protect her, where he failed Tana. Conner and Cassie’s relationship was probably HEAVILY affected by Tana’s death, in fact.

My point is, there ARE times where Conner sees his friends - not just Cassie, and I think that’s what’s getting lost here - as vulnerable and needing to be protected. He sees himself as the tank, he’s more invulnerable than even Cassie who is their other heavy hitter, so it would make sense for him to feel this way.

But he feels this way about everyone he loves, he and Impulse both have a history of being over protective of TIM as the underpowered teammate, and it seems disengenuous to imply this is a gender/sex/romance/boy/girl thing.

....Cassie Nation, are y’all.... thriving? Is this doing it for y’all? Because this comic feels like empty calories. I’m getting that fandom Female Character Can Do No Wrong vibe that kills good characterization. Because we’re inventing things for Bart Allen to be sorry for and smoothing out Cassie’s flaws that make her interesting and fun. And she’s not even unflawed over this arc, she’s actually rather mean and self-pitying, but it’s going Unawknoledged. She’s been airbrushed by the narrative and it just kinda makes me mad.

Just, Tim’s queerness was CARRYING the last comic, and they magically sewed his mouth shut in this one so he wouldn’t distract from the Straight White Girl Saves The Day with help from Bart show. If that’s not an oopsie doopsie accidental metaphor for Second Wave Feminism, I don’t know what is.

Just... all this.... and ANITA FITE WHO?!

......this panel I’m okay with. I don’t think it understands itself, because this comic doesn’t so much as wink at Conner’s sexual trauma from being groomed by multiple adult women in his early formative years, but I choose to believe Conner’s been unpacking that himself and realizes that where he was back then wasn’t the healthiest and he’s grown.

*claps* We done did know, but thank you. You could have said it a bit louder and more plainly for the stubborn people in the back, though. You KNOW they’re going to obstinantly insist it’s still not canon.

Also, Tim and Conner DID NOT talk about Tim’s sexuality, so you did in fact lie to us. Tim talked about it to other people, and they side-stepped each other like a game of Gay Chicken where you hold hands and make eyes the whole time.

Seriously, I think Conner STILL doesn’t know Tim has a boyfriend. EVERYONE KNOWS TIM’S QUEER BUT CONNER, HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

Ooooh, I’m tired. And frustrated.

.....I’m unsatisfied. This arc get’s a 3 out of 10 stars from me. It’s not completely devoid of merit, but it’s pretty damn bad.
