Hi....If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
Thanks for asking! I have a lot of favorites but narrowing them down to ten will be a challenge. I will try though!
Top 10
Ten: Howl's Moving Castle (Book)
Nine: The Lion King (2019) (Movie)
Eight: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (Anime)
Seven: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz (Anime Movie)
Five: Heaven Official's Blessing/TGCF (Donghua/Anime)
Four: Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation/MDZS (Donghua/Danmei)
Three: Naruto/Shippuden (Manga/Anime)
Two: The Hobbit (Book)
One: The Lion King (1994) (Movie)
Number one may be of shock but it was the first movie I remember loving as a kid, and even now, I can watch it in different languages and STILL understand what is going on purely from memory! Now I also didn't include My Hero Academia in this, although I have been obsessed with it lately, and that is purely because I actually have not read or watched it yet! I have gotten my knowledge and love for it through osmosis and fervent research!
Gundam Wing was the first anime that I fell in love with, and Endless Waltz was the first anime movie I watched and bought. Naruto/Shippuden was my first obsession, and the source material for my first fanon Yaoi ship.
The Hobbit was my first full-length novel. I read it in the 4th grade, and after taking a test on it, I got 17/20 questions right, which was a surprise for my teachers!
MDZS and TGCF are the first Danmei/Donghua I got into, and that was literally about 6 months ago!
There are plenty of other media I like. The Magic School Bus was my favorite cartoon growing up. Then there is Emergency (circa 1970's). I like the Alien franchise a lot. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is another anime I love. I am also a big fan of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives from the Food Network. Card Captor Sakura is good to watch. There are countless others, the ones I listed are simply the most influential ones to the person I am now.
Tell me, what are your faves?

What is it about the hyenas that drew you to them? Is it a happy childhood memory?
Tumblr media
The Lion King is by far my favorite movie for sticking with me for so long. It's comfort content that I can always reach out to if I'm feeling up or down. I still have my Mufasa Mattel plush from 1994 (though I lost the Simba that went with him :c). TLK was the first online fandom I really started interacting with, checking out forums and looking into the 'off screen' lore of it all. I learned/practiced how to draw animals in the TLK style. TLK has been in my blood for most my life.
As for the hyena muses, I picked them up around 2017 when there were first talks of the remake (before we knew it was just a mostly beat for beat live-action remake and not one of the 'based on the original content but a new story' kind of remakes they were still kinda making at the time) and I had high hopes for it. So I figured that there probably would be an influx of TLK rpers so I wanted to get my hands on some of the muses (and I love me some secondary villain muses. You know. Middle management). But I didn't really know where to put them. I made the occasional sideblog or just ran them over through my head but it wasn't until we started getting more info on the remake, and the disappointment started setting in. But in honesty it just made me buckle down more on how much I loved the original movie and in 2018 I made a Banzai & Ed specific sideblog, then a main blog in 2019, and they've been with me ever since (though I fall out occasionally as I do with all my muses) but when the hyena are on the brain, they're on it hard.
Now, to get a little too personal maybe, as I've worked with the muses, I really have come to the realization the catharsis of rping a character like Ed. On the surface/face value he really looks like he doesn't get it. Like he's just a space-case who is just there for comedic value and filling in the 'hyena are stupid' trope. But when you've consumed the content as much as I have (and talked with others who have done so too) you realize there is a lot more to him. And I relate to that. Now my functionality isn't at his level but I do struggle with communication sometimes, I have the ideas but the words just don't synch up, and I think that I get some sort of serotonin reward of taking that to the extreme with a muse like Ed and I get to explore those struggles in a safe and silly space. But with Banzai I get to have a semi-sympathetic character who also understands Ed and can vouch for him (while also living out the 'only child' syndrome of portraying siblings) AND who doesn't love playing a pun-loving grouch (i do).
SO long story short. Yeah these characters mean a lot to me

Today I learned that Disney's Lion King did not, in fact, rip off Kimba the White Lion.
If you go on youtube, you'll see a lot of videos comparing Kimba to Lion King, and generally claiming that Kimba ripped off Lion King. And they show a bunch of footage from Kimba. But the footage of Kimba that they use? It's from the 1997 Kimba movie.
See where I'm going with this?
Yeah..
The Lion King was released in 1994! That's three whole years before Kimba was released. Three whole years before all that 'similar footage' came out.
The Lion King couldn't rip off a movie that came out 3 years after it. On top of it, there's been a lot of attention-grabbing misinformation on twitter and stuff, with zero corroborating sources. I guess just to ride the 'Disney Sucks' train because they know it gets views?
And any other comparison footage from Kimba is just coincidental, super, super misrepresented.. Or its relevance in the overall show is blown out of proportion. Kimba has thousands of minutes of video footage from its properties, they have tons of scenes where different characters use their surroundings, do certain things, etc which kinda makes it nearly impossible for The Lion King to even show animals doing things without sometime, somewhere, being compared to something that happened in Kimba.
That scene where 'Kimba shoves a villain off a cliff' is taken from multiple different Kimba releases, and cut together to look like a remake of TLK's ending. That's why the villain lion changes colour in some of the shots lol.
Even the comparisons between the characters are dumb. The birds are nothing alike, and the hyenas in Kimba are just stereotypical villains with no personality. The villain lion dude pops up in like <10 episodes out of dozens and dozens of episodes and is just designed that way because villain tropes.
Tezuka productions, as a reply to peoples' claims that Disney ripped em off, has even come out to say 'they understand if you set a movie in Africa, there's a limited number of animal types (like birds hyenas etc) you can use'.
Literally, every single claim about The Lion King copying Kimba is manipulated to make a fake point.
So.. Y'all, we have been hardcore tricked!
This is the most damning first six minutes of a youtube video I've ever seen, the rest of the video is great too.

Mufasa wasn't an orphan. Or is disney doing the multiple timelines thing marvel is doing
The remake is it's own thing, occupying it's own space separate from the original 1994 film and its subsequent works (Simba's Pride, The Lion Guard, you get the idea). So anything that happens in Mufasa 2024 won't be automatically officially canon to the original film, in the same way that there are aspects of the 2019 film that contradict elements established in the original's canon works (the origin of the scar etc).
That's not necessarily gonna stop the fandom however.
See, The Lion King fandom relies not only on canon and headcanons, it's also relied over the many years on semi-canonical works (mainly books and comics), and canonical works that don't really match the original's tone and so aren't really supposed to be taken 100% seriously (The Lion King 3 being a parody, but also providing Timon's backstory). Then you have canon works that jump the shark. The Lion Guard is canon as far as Disney are concerned, but a fair portion of the fandom either cherry picks things they like from it, or straight up ignores the whole thing altogether.
TLK occupies an interesting corner of wider fandom, in that it's not quite chaotic enough to resemble the likes of Doctor Who, where canon doesn't really exist at all and the fandom just does whatever the fuck it wants, nor does it resemble the kind of fandom that sticks to regularly accepted canon. Nor does it resemble something like Star Wars, which not only has a large canon to take from, but also a massive extended universe that Disney very emphatically stated was non-canon after their acquisition of the franchise.
So now we swing back to this new film. Sure, the remake doesn't exist in the same universe as the original, however this absolutely would not stop the fandom incorporating orphan!Mufasa into general fanon. And what's more, if reports are to be correct, Scar will be named Taka in this new film - which comes from one of the semi-canonical sources I've mentioned before, and something that has been simply accepted in fanon for decades.
But here's the thing. Because Mufasa and Scar differ so much in design, the fan designs of their parents, Ahadi and Uru (also semi-canonical characters), are largely influenced by their sons' appearances. So if Mufasa no longer being their biological son starts to show up in the fanworks of the original universe, there may be some interesting consequences headcanon-wise for other characters and their fanon stories.
I'm so sorry anon, I've just infodumped a bunch of The Lion King fandom stuff at you, and I'm not sure I've explained it great but oh well.

Can I present to you a post-POA Sirius raises Harry scenario in which they go to see The Lion King in theaters (since TLK came out in the summer of 1994, which is also the summer following the events of POA)? Imagine, Harry sees the scene in which Mufasa dies and cries, and Sirius, crying too, is also just thinking to himself “oh shit, they just had to show a kid’s dad dying, huh?” He worries about Harry for the rest of the movie, and afterwards, Harry is just quiet for the rest of the day and clingy to Sirius. Sirius tentatively asks if he’s okay and if seeing that scene was too much for him. Harry just shakes his head and reassures Sirius that it didn’t bring back any bad memories; however, it did shake him up because he has a father now that he actually remembers and doesn’t want to lose. Sirius cuddles him a lot for the rest of the day.
Okay so this actually hits way too close to home because this is my experience. 😂 I have actually never seen Lion King all the way through! To this day, I have not seen it, because I cannot handle the dad dying! I refuse to watch it! I won't! I know it's based on Hamlet and I love Hamlet, but for some reason I can stomach Hamlet and not Lion King.
Anyway, yes, 100%, Harry would be super clingy to Sirius because Sirius is his dad and he never wants to lose his dad or even contemplate the possibility.

the story i'm writing is an oc insert story, so do you have some idea's about how the hyena's would act around someone they like? (Platonically)
I covered some of that in my headcanons for them, but thank you for this chance to talk about it more!
Banzai would be standoffish at first, but once he opens up to someone, he becomes excitable around them. He will smile a lot more instead of scowling and snarling to show his emotions. Banzai is somewhat of a follower, meaning he will echo most of what they say and search for their approval in daily interactions.
Shenzi is a fan of dark humour, so she would want to joke about her latest hunt together. It is her way of bonding over a mutual interest, albeit at the cost of whichever animal she decides to target that day. Inviting who she likes on hunts would be common.
Ed prefers actions to words. For someone who he likes, Ed brings animals (dead or still kicking) that he caught and intends to eat together. This is a sign that he views them as a family member or at least as a part of the cackle. He is prone to following them around on slower days, which can put him at odds with an insecure Banzai.
PS "Cackle" is the term for a group of hyenas. Just a fun fact!

have 6, 24, 30, and 37 for gaius if you’d like! :D @kerra-and-company
6. Voice Actor headcanon?
I like to imagine his voice as James Earl Jones doing Mufasa, back in the original 1994 TLK.
24. Favorite Season
Gaius' favorite season is definitely autumn. He enjoys the colors, and the coolness of the air in his fur without it being cold, you know? It's also my favorite thing about the Plains of Ashford and Diessa Plateau, how they're kinda permanently autumnal.
30. What was adolescence like?
Gaius' adolescence was fairly standard for a charr. He was born in Flame Legion, but wasn't even fully weaned when his dam fled to the Citadel. He wasn't bullied overmuch, especially because he's never been afraid of defending himself, even while he was one of the smaller cubs until he hit his growth spurt.
37. Do they have any phobias?
Gaius has a very intense phobia of undead, which is funny, considering base game is all zombies! His fear of zombies comes from the stories of a certain flame legion shaman who was known for utilizing blood magic, and puppeteering the bodies of soldiers he killed.

This guy is a hyena in TLKOB and describes himself as “lucky” (of course, it’s specifically about the “right now” bit because well... acting careers are a gamble).
Also, Nathan Lane, who is not in this scene but in the show, was Timon in the 1994 TLK.
