#TN Nashville Strong
🏳️‍⚧️ It's Trans Day of Visibility, y'all!! 🏳️‍⚧️
And it's an extra important one if you ask me. With all the transphobic legislation being introduced and passed in the US; the ever-increasing amount of discrimination, physical harm, and even murder trans people are enduring worldwide; the incident in Nashville, TN happening during Trans Visibility Week, being negatively tied to our community, and being used against us; the fact that those of us in the US are currently going through the final stages of genocide; and so, so much more... it's just so hard to feel like I'm allowed to celebrate my identity and the identities of other trans people today. It's so difficult to feel like it's okay to take pride in who I am. And I know many other trans/nonbinary people are feeling the same as well.
But at the same time... I don't want to stifle my transness. I don't want to give those who hate and target me and others like me the satisfaction of seeing me having to force myself back into the closet. I don't want to give up my right to be proud of me for being wholly, unapologetically, and authentically me. I don't want to surrender my pride in exchange for my safety.
Because I. Shouldn't. Have. To.
None of us should. Because there is nothing wrong with who we are. There is nothing wrong with being ourselves. There is nothing wrong with our being out and visible and beautiful! We are not mentally ill or sick or disgusting or broken. We are not mistakes or abominations. We do not deserve to be eradicated.
We are perfect. We are resilient. We are beautiful. We are strong. And we are so god damn amazing just as we are. We deserve happiness and love and acceptance. We deserve the same rights as the majority. We deserve to freely be ourselves without consequences or criticisms. We deserve more than to be hated, othered, assaulted, and murdered. We deserve the right to know we can go out in public without the fear of something horrible happening to us. We deserve all of this and so much more.
To my dear trans and nonbinary siblings, I love you so, so much. No matter what, I will always have a great love for you. Don't let anyone make you think you aren't deserving of that love either. Please take care of yourselves however you can. Do what you must to survive. Even if you have to do something extreme like going back into the closet. DO NOT feel bad or guilty for protecting yourself, and do not shame others for doing the same. And please don't listen to these people who seek to harm us and get rid of us. Fight! Fight in any way you can! We will win this battle in the end; we always do 🏳️‍⚧️

THE HHMR ISSUED A STORM WARNING: A NORTHER IS BLOWING IN AS SHANE SMITH AND THE SAINTS ROLL OUT THEIR LATEST RELEASE
Areas affected include: The Heart, The Soul, & Your Tappin’ Toes. Prepare accordingly.
Tumblr media
Strong. Fast moving. Cold. Breathtaking. Those are adjectives to describe a Norther or Blue Norther, a storm bringing in fast cold winds from the north into Texas and surrounding states. Those words also perfectly describe Shane Smith & the Saints newest album, Norther. This album hits you hard and fast! Shane, Bennett, Dustin, Chase and Zach put together an eclectic record that, in my humble opinion, is their best work yet, even topping my favorite, 2013’s Coast.
Before I go any further, I will give a disclaimer that this review is biased—for good reason. I have no affiliation with the band; I’ve only met Shane twice, I’ve met the other members each once, and I follow Bennett on instagram (he’s also originally from my adoptive city of Louisville, KY). BUT, they are my *favorite* band! I may have Timmy Ty’s lyrics tattooed on my arm, but there hasn’t ever been a band that puts me in a trance quite like Shane Smith & the Saints. I’ve seen them at: Tumbleweed (LaCygne, KS), the Basement East (Nashville, TN), Headliners (Louisville, KY), Bulls, Bands, and Barrels (Lexington, KY), and most recently for their headline debut at the Mother Church, the Ryman Auditorium (Nashville, TN). So yes, I am a fan—to say the least. I *may* even fanboy out when they are within a 4 hour drive. That may ruin the credibility of my review in some people’s eyes; however, in others it makes this review even more true and authentic as I have been a fan for 10 years for no reason except for the facts that they make damn fine music, and that they are the some of the nicest artists I have ever met. And to “kind of” quote Uncle Dallas Moore, “there ain’t no one [reading] my shit anyway.” 🤠
Tumblr media
Norther opens with “Book of Joe,” a hard hitting ballad with a heavy fiddle presence from Bennett and drums that hit you so hard that your heartbeat matches that of the drum beat. “Book of Joe” repeatedly tells us that “It’s a rich man’s war, it’s a poor man’s fight”—no matter which side of the dollar you are on, this life is always a battle. Next up, we get “Fire in the Sky.” Shane starts out by “deep talking” the lyrics, reminiscent of some of Johnny Cash’s lasts works. But then it goes into a toe tappin’, head banging song that isn’t country, Americana, or red dirt, but in my limited Eastern Kentucky vernacular can only be described as Rock.
We have to go all the way to track number 7 (out of 13) for what may be my favorite song on the album, “Wheels.” One set of lyrics in particular makes this song my favorite…“You can’t blame the memories because they brought you a long long way.” As imperfect humans living in a broken world, we have all had experiences that that have shaped us. Some are great and some we could do without. Personally, looking back at those memories, the good and the bad, they all taught me a lesson or changed my direction; something I am thankful for from the Man up above. And “Just like wheels caught in their motion,” we keep trudging forward throughout this crazy life. Jumping down to the 10th song on the album, “1,000 Wild Horses” gives something to the lover of “real country.” While it may be a little faster and have some great instrumentals, the focus is obviously Shane’s deep voice, the lyrics, and the melody.
Tumblr media
Y’all, most albums have one or two of those “skip over songs.” That isn’t the case with Norther. The album has 13 imposing songs, 6 of which were singles starting with “Hummingbird” back in 2022. I’ve already told you once, I am biased because Shane Smith & the Saints are my favorite band for no other reasons except they make great music that casts a spell on me every time I hear it; and that in my few interactions, they are all humble, friendly and down to earth fellas who work as hard as hell to make the music they want to make. So, I know it is only March, but this album has the potential to have my vote for best release of 2024!
Do yourself and the band a favor and go listen to these independent artists right now. Stream them on your preferred platform, check out their merch, and lastly go to the show! I’ve been to a ton of shows over the years, but not one show impacted me the way Shane Smith & the Saints with Justin Wells did at the Basement East. P.S. and that was a show they played with borrowed instruments from Turnpike Troubadours (I think) after their van burned!
-Cheers, N.
Below is the music video for “Adeline,” a track off Norther

Emmett Chappelle’s journey from NASA to the Goddard Space Flight Center culminated in the creation of a new technique that helps scientists discover life on other planets.
By researching creatures like fireflies that emit light naturally in a chemical process called bioluminescence, Chappelle discovered that a combination of chemicals causes all living organisms to emit light, according to NASA.
Tumblr media
Like other Black inventors, Chappelle never backed down from a challenge.
From Arizona to the stars
Emmett Chappelle was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on October 24, 1925, to cotton-growing and cattle-raising parents. He received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of California.
After a brief stint as an instructor in biochemistry at the Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN., he received a master’s degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.
From there, his journey took one giant leap forward. After serving as a research associate and scientist for the Research Institute of Advanced Studies at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., Chappelle began working directly at NASA in the 1960s. There he supported the organization’s manned space flight missions while fellow Black genius Katherine Johnson calculated flight trajectories–by hand.
Tumblr media
Using this technique, he was able to detect the presence of bacteria in urine, blood, spinal fluids, drinking water and foods, according to the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The presence of bacteria is a strong indicator of life, and exobiologists today are able to more easily detect the presence of living organisms thanks to Chappelle’s discovery.

Emmett Chappelle: Connecting Earthlings to life on other worlds
For 34 years Chappelle worked at the Goddard Space Center, where he received 14 patents. He’s been recognized as one of the top 100 Black scientists and engineers of the 20th Century and has received numerous awards for his work.
“I really enjoyed my time at Goddard,” Chappelle after being notified of his acceptance into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. “The people made it a great place for me to do my research, and I really appreciated that NASA recognized the importance of my work.”
When asked what he missed the most about working at Goddard he simply responded, “The people.”
Chappelle retired in 2001 and passed away in 2019. He’s survived by his daughter and son-in-law, who live in Baltimore.

☆ TLDR ☆
Gemma Jones Devereux is the second oldest in her family, growing up as her mother's favorite due to her strong resemblance to her mother. As a child, she tried to play the role of peacemaker during family drama and fights, protecting and herding her younger siblings off to their rooms while going to comfort her older sister, who often clashed with their mother. At 17, Gemma became the first child in the family to be signed to the label and quickly erupted into stardom. While she loves what she does, Gemma's true passion is in songwriting, but her mother and the label would never let her write for other artists. However, it's a very well-kept secret among some people that Gemma does write for other artists all the time using a male ghost name, Drew King. All of the Devereux's are competing for ownership of Deverocks, but Gemma has been considering leaving the label and switching to a more mainstream label in order to capitalize on her success and see how big she can really be. Her end goal is to accumulate enough wealth and fame to possibly buy Deverocks from her parents, or at least accumulate enough wealth to put an end to the family drama and ensure all of her siblings are set for life. Currently, Gemma is on a break from her tour and is back in Nashville, TN.
☆ Full Biography ☆
EARLY LIFE (age 0-7):
Ahead of the birth of his second child, Gemma’s father was convinced they were having a boy - absolutely desperate for a son, who he was planning to name George Jones Devereux in homage to one of his favorite stars.
On December 27th, 1991, Gemma Jones Devereux was born at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West, the second Devereux daughter, three years younger than her sister Maggie. Mr. Devereux never got his son George, but he, and her entire family, always fondly called Gemma Jonesie anyway.
Born into the Devereux empire and looking every bit as blonde and blue-eyed as her mother, Gemma can remember her earliest memories of the sparkling lights of Broadway in and the bright lights of the spotlights that shone down on her when her father would bring her out onstage and hoist her onto his hip at the end of a show.
Back then, everyone cooed and fawned over the Devereux children at their parents shows and signings, and Gemma was happily toted along like a little show pony, as if one of her mother's greatest accomplishments was producing adorable little children (it wasn't a surprise then, that three more siblings followed).
Gemma’s early life was playing backstage at her parents shows and loving all the attention she got from her parents’ fans.
CHILDHOOD + EARLY TEENS (age 7-17):
She couldn't distinctly remember when she really caught onto her parents substance abuse, or the first time she distinctly thought "my parents shouldn’t say that to us," but by the time she was in the second grade, she was keenly aware of the way her mother's moods swung like a pendulum, the way she could get angry over anything, and the way her anger wasn't taken out on anyone rationally, just whichever one of the children was closest.
She could plainly see that Maggie, her oldest sister, took way more of her mother's aggression than any of their siblings, and when she thought about it, she realized that it was quite possible that Gemma herself was on the receiving end of the least amount of her mother's anger and manipulation, although even she got her fair share.
There were always comments (mostly from her mother) about which little Devereux would grow up to be the very best, who would be the best singer? who would grow up to take over Deverocks? It was dangled in their faces like candy, and, to Gemma, she took that to understand that she had to be the very best... at everything.
Whether it was because she'd grown up in Maggie's shadow or because she was simply driven, Gemma tried hard at everything.
She got stellar grades in school, was a varsity swimmer all of high school, and, most importantly, she could sing and write music.
She’d been singing and performing since she remembered, guided by her mother and obediently following along to all the lessons she was sent to.
ADULTHOOD + THE SPOTLIGHT (age 17-now):
She didn’t expect to be signed to Deverocks at 17 years old, before even her sister had - but that was their mother, constantly trying to pit her children against each other, particularly her two oldest girls.
Gemma signed the dotted line, realizing her life was going to change forever, and even knowing that, she couldn’t have been prepared for what her life became.
Gone were her dreams of going to an Ivy League or getting a swim scholarship in college - she didn’t even go to college. Instead, Deverocks capitalized on her as America’s Sweetheart, a young, sweet country girl with Country Music Hall of Fame in her blood.
It wasn’t that Gemma didn’t like the success- she did, but was it what she wanted? She couldn’t say. She liked singing, she loved touring, and she knew she was doing well at Deverocks, but the underlying turmoil of her family was something she could never escape.
Being exposed to celebrity so young, Gemma had a brief partying phase, experimenting with drugs that got passed around at parties, that her boyfriends always seemed to have access too, but she hated the way they made her feel, and, above all, she feared becoming her parents. She cut the drugs out, but not the drinking.
Above all, while Gemma was pumping out album after album- she was observing the business, making connections, and trying to figure out how, if she could, make sure her siblings and herself could escape the toxicity in their family and skirt out from under the pressure of one day possibly owning Deverocks Records.
She knows she’s doing better and better with every album, but at the same time, part of her knows she could do more, could do better. She wants more control over her career, more than she has a Deverocks.
She wants to write more, she wants to do other things, branch out into pop and see how successful she can really be. But that would mean leaving Deverocks Records for a competitor, which is a move that she knows would change her life forever once again.
☆ Relationships ☆
Older sister: @maggiedereux - Maggie and Gemma are two and a half years apart, and Gemma has idolized her older sister since her earliest memory. As the two oldest Devereux children, and both girls, their relationship was a rollercoaster of competition and codependence, made worse by their mother, who pit them against each other at all opportunities. Gemma, more mild-mannered and younger, got the least of their mother's wrath while Maggie got the worst, and they spent a large part of their youth flipping back and forth in which one was acting as the "older sister." Gemma stepped into that role whenever Maggie and their mother were having a particularly bad fight, shepherding their younger siblings into their rooms and then fishing a bobby pin out of her jewelry box to pick the lock on Maggie's door, crawling into bed with her older sister and wiping her tears. Maggie did the same for her too many times to count, always trying to protect all of them from their mother. Gemma was signed before Maggie, even though, to Gemma, Maggie's always been more talented. Gemma harshly disapproves of Maggie's drug use and drinking, and constantly tries to pry and see if her sister really is okay, because truly, she never really believes her.
Younger brother: @callumdevereux - Growing up in the Devereux family, Gemma and Callum were polar opposites. While Callum was shy and quiet, Gemma was the opposite, unbothered by the twinkling spotlights in her eyes when her parents carried her onstage at the end of their shows. As the designated protector and peacemaker, Gemma kept an eye out for her younger siblings, always trying to shepherd them off to their rooms when the fighting escalated, trying to distract them with toys and games so it wasn't as upsetting. Gemma maintains a close relationship with all of her siblings, even Callum, and fully supported him selling his shares of the company and cutting ties with the label.
Love affair: @rowan-dashner - Gemma and Rowan are currently sleeping together/seeing each other in secret. Rowan is married, and Gemma never intended to be someone's mistress, but one of the talents he manages was an opener for Gemma on tour and they ended up spending a lot of time together until they hooked up one night, starting a tour romance. Rowan would sneak into Gemma's trailer or hotel room every night. They truly have fallen in love with each other and although she knows it's wrong, she craves the stability and peace Rowan brings her. Rowan has become the inspiration for several of her songs, including her single I Can See You, which heavily references secret hookups and romances.
Situationship: @tylermason - Tyler Mason, another person Gemma should not be hooking up with. Tyler is her musical rival and, in the public eye, they're enemies, their singles and albums constantly vying for number one. However, behind the scenes, whenever they're both in Nashville and not touring, they're usually staying at each other's places and hooking up. Their relationship is incredibly secretive because their labels would be furious if they knew, and Gemma's incredibly conflicted between Rowand and Tyler, two hookups that developed into something much more, and two men that she has feelings for but she has to keep secret.
Publicist: @emiliamcdden - Emilia is Gemma's publicist, someone responsible for maintaining her image as America's sweetheart and cleaning up any media messes. Beyond that, Emilia has grown to become someone Gemma trusts beyond a professional relationship, especially since their is so much drama and betrayal in the industry. Gemma's incredibly grateful to Emilia and considers her a friend.
Best friend: @colton-reynolds - Colton and Gemma are an unlikely close pair, having bonded over their shared hard times and witnessed each other at their worst. Now that they've both stopped using (at least, for the most part, on Gemma's part), she'd drawn to Colton because she doesn't have to try around him and she knows he doesn't judge her or view her as Gemma the celebrity, rather, Gemma- the person.
Friend and mentee: @chloecampbell - On paper, Gemma and Chloe are rivals. Blonde, successful, with similar aesthetics, both marketed as all-American sweethearts. Gemma was told Chloe was her competition, but when Chloe collapsed onstage in LA, Gemma saw too much of herself in the younger girl and showed up at her house in Nashville shortly after she canceled her tour. Instead of acting like her enemy, Gemma took on the role of mentor and friend, keeping an eye on Chloe and helping her, even co-writing together and pushing Chloe to try her hand at writing.
☆ Facts ☆
Her drink of choice is bourbon (a nod to TVD, iykyk). She drinks it straight and will drink it after a long day or when she needs something to take the edge off, but when she's out, she'll order a whiskey coke, a Paloma, aperol spritz, or skinny margarita. She drank way too much vodka as a college student, and isn't a picky drinker, although she tries to avoid anything overly sweet.
Gemma is severely allergic to peanuts and all tree nuts. She carries an epipen and Benadryl with her almost always, and goes to an allergist every six months (so far she's failed every test and hasn't outgrown any allergies).
She is a big reader, when time allows. She loves the world of books and is prone to crying at the end of books because she's sad there over. A bad habit Gemma has is beginning a book and then staying up all night to finish it, and she has a notebook full of all her favorite quotes from books that she's handwritten over the years.
Gemma keeps diaries. She knows it's stupid and old fashioned and she'd probably be totally fucked if anyone found them, but something about keeping diaries and writing down all of her thoughts is incredibly therapeutic to her. This hobby goes hand in hand with her love of reading, and, in a way, Gemma likes the thought that she's writing the story of her life, as it happens. Of course, her emotions and thoughts change all the time, but if she didn't have an outlet to get her feelings out, she'd probably never sleep, or be even closer to perpetually losing her shit than she is on a daily basis.
She is absolutely addicted to coffee and prefers iced coffee to hot coffee. Gemma's convinced it doesn't actually affect her anymore and she's still so tired all the time but still drinks it out of habit and loves the ritual of making coffee every morning.
She is a terrible sleeper. She's a constant worried who is absolutely awful at turning her brain off at night to rest because she's constantly thinking about work, her family, her relationships, and her life-at-large. She sleeps much better when she's sleeping next to someone, and also sleeps better when the sun is out and she can take naps.
When it comes to values, Gemma is very traditional, honest, and true, despite the emotional turmoil that was her childhood and upbringing. She values her relationships with her family, friends, and partners above all else and when she does something, she'll stick to her word. She's never cheated on a partner and rarely ever lies or sneaks around the truth. She's a terrible liar to begin with, but also hates the feeling it gives her and she automatically feels bad about it. However, when it comes to protecting her family, she'd lie or do whatever she needs to do for her parents and siblings, even though her relationships with each of them are incredibly complicated and nuanced.

HAPPY TRANS VISIBILITY DAY!!
No, seriously- please, don’t be discouraged.
It’s not just trans people coming out of the woodwork today… it’s also transphobes. And unfortunately, their hatred is especially strong today, in light of a horrible tragedy that happened in Nashville, TN this week.
I won’t explain the tragedy, as it’s all over the news and hearing about it would just add to people’s stress and distress, which we all already get enough of on the internet nowadays.
And it IS tragic. It IS horrible, and it’s something that keeps happening all over the United States. But it has nothing to do with trans people.
Or it SHOULDN’T be regarded as having anything to do with trans people, anyway- but people are taking it as evidence of how horrible trans people are, because all they have is this one person who’s an example of what a trans person is like.
But we’re not like that.
People are just suffering from confirmation bias, fear, and paranoia. Honestly, they probably don’t even hate us, they just hate their perceived version of us.
So engaging with them in “discussion” about it or arguing with them or even just calling them out on it is just going to make things worse, and won’t solve any problems, and DEFINITELY won’t change their minds. (Sorry, y’all… I genuinely really wish it could, but it won’t. Changing their minds isn’t a one-person job. /lh)
So to all the trans people, gender nonconforming people, and those who identify otherwise, out there, please remember…
✨Block and report, mates.✨
Block and report.
Happy trans day. 🏳️‍⚧️

✦ DREW VAN ACKER, CIS MALE, HE/HIM ✦ LUKE CALLAWAY the THIRTY-FIVE year old is often seen driving his RED DODGE RAM blasting HOTEL CALIFORNIA BY THE EAGLES. Whispers on the streets are that the ASSISTANT FARM MANAGER AT CALLAWAY FARMS who lives in HAGFIELD is said to be CHARMING and IRRITABLE but I guess we’ll find out for ourselves.
in character information.
Character Name: Luke Callaway
Age: 35
Birthday: June 6th
Gender/Pronouns: Cis Male, He/His
Faceclaim: Drew Van Acker
Occupation: Assistant Farm Manager at Callaway Farms
Neighborhood: Hagfield
Birth Place: Nashville, TN
How long they’ve been in Hillhide: 35 years
biography.
triggers: Death, Drugs, Alcohol, Abuse
Some people are born with silver spoons in their mouths, and some are not. For Luke Callaway, it was the latter. Born and raised in Nashville, Luke’s life was anything but glamourous or easy. He had to fight for himself the moment he opened his eyes. You see, Luke’s parents were barely adults themselves, not to mention the strong addiction to drugs and whatever else they could get their hands on, so when it came to caring for Luke, he got the bare minimum. All throughout his childhood he witnessed his father turning to alcohol, abusing his mother, which in turn led his mother to abusing substances - all while Luke, unable to process what was happening in his home, started acting out in school and his neighborhood. A troublemaker, people called him, bound to end up just like his father.
It wasn’t until his years in high school did his grandparents see past his rough and tough exterior and decided to take Luke in. And if you were to ask Luke about the decision to move in with them today he’d say that that decision alone saved his life. Working on his grandparent’s farm taught the teenager that there was more to life than what he was previous living. Luke took up fishing, plowing fields, and looking after the well-being of the small amount of livestock on the farm. For once, Luke saw a future for himself that didn’t involve going down the same road as his parents.
In his early twenties Luke met the love of his life, Kristin Fox. The two met one summer while Luke happened to fishing off the pier at Hove Lake, his buddies daring him to go ask the girl out on a date thinking she’d never give Luke the time of day. One year later and the couple was walking down the aisle, eager to start their new life together. As the years went by, Luke worked his way up to becoming assistant manager of the farm. He had gained his grandparents trust and respect.
When the couple turned twenty-eight, they found out they were expecting. Nothing could wipe the smile from Luke’s face as he planned and prepared for a new family, except for the night that turned his world upside down. It was the end of November, and Kristin and Luke were working late at the farm trying to catch up on all the seasonal chores. Growing tired and aching from being on her feet all day, Luke insisted that Kristin go home early and try to relax. He wanted what was best for his wife and the baby, after all. If only he had let her stay another twenty minutes, just twenty more minutes, Kristin could have avoided that drunk driver who ran the stop sign, resulting in the death of her and their unborn child. Luke’s world has never been the same.
Presently, Luke still works on the farm, and he still struggles with the guilt and loss on a daily basis. He can’t let himself be happy, and feels as though if he moves on completely from Kristin and the baby that it’s almost as if he’s betraying them. Slowly, through therapy, he’s realizing that his late wife wouldn’t want him to wallow around Hidehill, he’s worked too hard to get where he is today.
Positive personality trait: Generous, Adaptable, Charming
Negative personality trait: Irritable, Restless, Inconsistent

When selecting a tree service company in Nashville, TN, it's crucial to consider several key factors to ensure you're making the right choice for your needs. Firstly, check for credentials such as certifications and licenses. A reputable company should have certified arborists and proper licensing to perform tree care services safely and effectively.
Secondly, inquire about insurance coverage. Any reputable tree service company should carry both liability insurance and workers' compensation insurance to protect you, your property, and their workers in case of accidents or damages.
Thirdly, ask about the company's experience and expertise. Look for a company with a proven track record of successful tree care projects and a team with extensive knowledge of local tree species, diseases, and environmental factors specific to Nashville.
Additionally, consider the range of services offered. A comprehensive tree service company should provide a wide array of services, including tree trimming, pruning, removal, stump grinding, and emergency tree services.
Lastly, seek out reviews and testimonials from past clients. Hearing about others' experiences can provide valuable insights into the company's reliability, professionalism, and quality of work.

How Gutter Cleaning in Murfreesboro and Nashville, TN Can Help Keep the Home’s Foundation Strong
Clogged gutters are more than just a nuisance; they can seriously threaten one's home's foundation. In Murfreesboro and Nashville, where heavy rainfall is common, it's essential to understand how clogged gutters can impact one's home and how timely gutter cleaning in Murfreesboro and Nashville, TN, can help homeowners prevent potential damage.   How Clogged Gutters Cause Foundation Issues   When the gutters are clogged with leaves, twigs, and other debris, they cannot effectively channel rainwater away from the home. Instead, water can overflow from the gutters and pool around the foundation. This can lead to several issues:   Soil Erosion: Excess water around the foundation can erode the soil, creating voids and uneven surfaces. As the soil erodes, it can create pressure against the foundation walls, leading to cracks and structural damage.   Foundation Settlement: Prolonged exposure to excess water can cause the soil beneath the foundation to shift and settle unevenly. This can result in foundation settlement, where the foundation sinks or shifts, leading to cracks in the walls and floors of the home.   Basement Flooding: If water is allowed to pool around the foundation, it can seep into the basement or crawl space, leading to flooding. This can cause damage to one's belongings and create a breeding ground for mold and mildew.   Mold and Mildew Growth: Excess moisture around the foundation can create a damp environment ideal for mold and mildew growth. Mold and mildew not only cause unpleasant odors but can also pose health risks to residents.   Preventing Foundation Damage   To prevent clogged gutters from causing foundation issues in one's Murfreesboro or Nashville home, consider the following tips:   Regular Gutter Cleaning: Gutter cleaning in Murfreesboro and Nashville, TN, needs to be carried out at least twice a year or more frequently if there are overhanging trees on the property. Remove any debris and check for signs of damage, such as rust or corrosion.   Install Gutter Guards: Gutter guards can help prevent leaves and debris from entering the gutters, reducing the frequency of cleaning required. They may not be 100% effective and may still need occasional maintenance.   Ensure Proper Slope: To ensure proper drainage, one needs to ensure that the gutters are sloped correctly towards the downspouts. This will help prevent water from pooling and overflowing.   Extend Downspouts: Professionals need to install downspout extensions to direct water at least 5-10 feet away from the foundation. This will help prevent water from seeping into the soil around the foundation.   Maintain Landscaping: Trees and shrubs near the home must be trimmed to prevent leaves and branches from falling into the gutters. This will also help reduce the amount of debris clogging the gutters.   Clogged gutters can have severe consequences for a home's foundation. Understanding the potential risks and taking preventive measures can protect their home from costly repairs and ensure its longevity.

Tennessee natives Paramore and Allison Russell both won Grammys two weekends ago. Monday, the state’s House of Representatives considered ceremonial resolutions recognizing both artists’ achievements. The resolution honoring Paramore, an all-white rock band, went through, but the one honoring Russell, a Black country singer, was kicked back to committee. Democrat Justin Jones — one of two Black members of the Tennessee Three who were expelled from the House for a gun control protest last year — put forward both of the resolutions. House Republican Caucus Chair Jeremy Faison, who led the effort to expel Jones, objected to the resolution honoring Russell.
It seemed like a transparently racist attempt to elevate white artists but not Black ones, as Russell declared on Twitter/X: “That the TN GOP blocked it, I take as a compliment. Their bigotry, sadly, is on relentless display. We have a chance this year to make a real change in TN.” Paramore are also having none of it. In a statement to the Tennesseean, Hayley Williams writes:
This week, Rep. Justin Jones put forth resolutions to honor my band, Paramore and another local-to-Nashville artist, Allison Russell, on our recent Grammy wins (as far as I can tell these resolutions have no legal weight to them. They’re like a big high five or when the whole restaurant joins in to sing you “Happy Birthday”). House Republicans only let the measure that acknowledged Paramore’s win pass. They blocked Allison’s. For those that don’t know, Allison Russell is an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. Her music spans genres with strong ties to the Folk/Americana scenes. You might have seen her on the Grammy stage performing with the great Joni Mitchell. Oh, she is also Black. She’s a brilliant Black woman. The blatant racism of our state leadership is embarrassing and cruel. Myself, as well as Paramore, will continue to encourage young people to show up to vote with equality in mind. I’d like to say thank you to Brother Jones for your steadfast commitment to your community. And thank you to Allison Russell for using your voice and artistry to band people together, not tear them apart. CONGRATS on your incredible Grammy night. On behalf of Paramore, Happy Black History Month.
Additionally, on their Instagram story, Paramore write, “Paramore will not accept any acknowledgement or honor from the TN House until Allison Russell is given the same recognition.”
