now jimin is such an interesting character like he really logs into social media to post about anything but his own face how is he not obsessed with his face? I just know that if I had a face like his I would force every living creature to look at me 24/7, baby is way too humble sometimes I even wonder if he really really knows how stunning his face is cuz wow
It's easier to talk like that from an outsider's perspective. But I think reality is a bit different. Jimin doesn't come across as a narcissist either.
You saying "I would force every living creature to look at me 24/7" made me think of this documentary I saw recently. It's called The Most Beautiful Boy in The World and it's about Bjorn Andresen, the one who played Tadzio in Death in Venice. I wanna talk about that for a bit, I'm using this ask as an excuse.
youtube
The boy's grandmother wanted to have a celebrity/actor in the family, so she took Bjorn to the casting call. Luchino Visconti saw him and knew immediately he was the one. They asked him to take off all his clothes, except underwear, so they can take some shots. He was only 15 at the time. Filming went well and then when Death in Venice premiered at Cannes, it turned into madness. I think that's when Visconti called him the most beautiful boy in the world and that label turned into a curse. The boy was thrown into the lion's den, full of people who wanted to be seen next to him, taken to parties and flaunted as this otherwordly creature. Everyone wanted him or to be in his proximity. What was unfortunate was that he had no adult to take care of him. And for an adolescent who hated absolutely everything of that life but who also believed he was supposed to listen to what he was told, it turned into a nightmare.
He became an "object" of fascination because he was considered androgynous and the character he portrayed in the film had an effect on people's perception of him. Tadzio was Beauty and Death all together, this untouchable being. In the documentary it's explained how his visit to Japan and the work he had to do there was considered probably among the first instances of fans getting crazy over an idol. There's footage of that. He also became the inspiration since the 1970s for a lot of manga. So many famous characters are based on his face.
The guy hated it because he was reduced to his beauty. I won't tell you what happens to him later in life, perhaps you'll want to see the documentary, but his story is heartbreaking.
To circle this back to Jimin and his beauty, often time our own perception of us and the perception other people have of us does not align completely. I will assume that Jimin is aware of his beauty, but somehow I doubt he wakes up everyday thinking he needs to be worshipped for his looks. That's the fan's job which is a daily habit at this point. We are obsessed with looks and beauty, whatever that may mean to us. In Jimin's case we talk so much about his appearance and often times I would see the world "otherwordly" used when describing him. It was impossible not to think of Bjorn Andresen. What I hope is that Jimin had such an upbringing and a life that didn't in turn let the adoration get to his head. So far, he seems fine.

GAY ICONS: DIRK BOGARDE
Dirk Bogarde became a matinee idol when he was cast as medical student Simon Sparrow in “Doctor in the House” (1954). Bogarde’s on screen charm and sex appeal made him one of the most popular British stars of the 1950s. He went on to appear in four sequels of the film series.
Bogarde didn’t want to be typecast, so he accepted a role in “Victim” (1961), playing a lawyer who initially refused to help a young man that was being blackmailed for being a homosexual (then illegal in Britain). When the boy commits suicide while in jail, Bogarde’s character decides to go after the blackmailers even though it may jeopardize his career.
If asked, Bogarde would denied he was a homosexual. But he never married. He had a long term relationship with Anthony Forwood (former husband to actress Glynis Johns). They met in 1939 when Bogarde was 18 and Forwood was 24. They would eventually move in together in 1968. In the 1970s, they bought a 15th-century farmhouse near Grasse in Provence which they restored.
Perhaps Bogarde’s most famous role was in “Death in Venice” (1971). It Based on the novel by Thomas Mann and directed by Luchino Visconti. Bodarde played Gustav von Aschenbach, an aging gentleman in poor health who becomes obsessed with the “stunning beauty” adolescent Tadzio.
During his 51 year film career, Bogarde appeared in 66 films, and 5 productions for television. He was nominated 5 for BAFTA awards (winning twice). And he received a knighthood in 1992.
Bogarde was also a prolific writer, publishing 9 memoirs between 1977 and 1998.
In 1983 Bogarde and Forwood moved back to Britain… the reason? Forwood had been diagnosed with liver cancer and they sought better treatment back in London. In 1987, while nursing Forwood, Bogarde suffered a minor stroke. Forwood succumbed to the disease in May 1988.
In 1996, Bogarde suffered another stroke while having angioplasty to unblock arteries leading to his heart. This resulted in paralysis on one side and slurred speech. Dirk Bogarde died in May 1999, his ashes were scattered at his former estate in in Southern France.

I'm at the beach on holidays and whenever I'm next to the sea I feel like Aschenbach looking for his Tadzio, all the beautiful men looking like Greek heroes with their skin glistening in the sun, it brings me the same sense of fatality as in the book, of a man entranced by beauty yet only admiring from a distance, incapable of participating and trapped by his own obsession, till death takes his toll.

Tully's clan is so desperate for the arrangement benefits that they would still allow a guy like Tadzio be around even if he disrespects the clan as a whole?
This is a punishment that Tally's clan must endure. They have no say in the matter.

The way evan is quite literally a siren. Like barty is fucking mesmerized by this porcelain doll of a man with bug eyes that are completely empty and freckles beyond control and nimble fingers and creaky joints and scoliosis (so real king me too) and also he’s this freak who keeps rotting carcasses on his shelf to observe and prod at and lets mold grow so he can feed it like a pet and he’s so extremely depraved but barty still loses his mind at the mere sight of him???? He cannot go a day without seeing him too it’s a problem that’s bordering on addiction
oh it’s CRUCIAL… evan rosier has features that should be pretty, but there’s an air about him that always makes him look somewhere between a fairy and a corpse. he looks SICK. his little heart-shaped face has sunken cheekbones, and his big lantern-eyes have a grey overcast, and all his hogwarts uniforms swamp him (he’s pushing the sleeves up past his bony elbows). and all of this is the EXACT combination to convince barty that evan is some type of evil cursed angel sent to earth as a manifestation of all his most depraved sexual fantasies to torture him !!!
there’s something hot to me about evan activating barty’s corruption kink JUST with the way he looks (despite being worse than him)… he could dismember someone in front of barty, & barty would still be like “i need to ruin his pretty innocence”
