romcom hasn't been romcoming this hard since... GOSH I don't know?!! when was the last time I saw a romcom in kdramaland that hooked me this much? that made me think everything was perfect??? 2019?? wth?

sdfghjkl!!!! the way this scene was so random at first and now it has so much depth and heartbreak! ugh!!

The thing about romcoms in kdramas, that I LOVE, is that a really good one is able to give you equal measures of romance, heart, comedy and good drama/angst. That, paired up with good acting, AMAZING chemistry and just the right touch of fantasy is pretty much a *chef's kiss*. Is just everything you could ask for but were afraid to hope for, does that make sense??

HAHAHAHAHA I love that she is basically a liar and a terrible one. None of what she says makes sense (tbh telling the truth also wouldn't lol) but I love that he tries to believe her or wants to, very much.

Also, it's hilarious that her superpower is freezing time to avoid revealing spoilers from the future and she makes use of it in the most unhinged way:

And with Hyeyoon on board, I knew this project was on good hands, that girl is seriously underrated in Korea (hopefully not anymore after this) but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about WooSeok. Like, don't get me wrong, that man is GORGEOUS but the only good thing of him that I actually loved was a movie. BUT after this, wow, is like all that experience he has, finally leveled up because he is actually meeting Hyeyoon's standards of acting here, and I'm so proud and relieved. I didn't know he had it in him.

Like, excuse me? Why do you have me tearing up at the start of the episode? And omg, to think he stayed away because she was angry and he felt so guilty, even though he saved her.

I'm genuinely optimistic about the outcome of this. We all know they will get their happy ending, but I'm actually hopeful that the acting, writing and pacing will remain this good till the end. What a joy to watch a wonderful romcom with the vibes of the good old classic romcoms from the early 2010's. We're so back, baby!

I am very curious as to why she went back to the present the first time. What is the trigger? We know, because Sol figured it out, that the watch only works at midnight and she probably only has 2 chances left to change SunJae's future as long as that creepy CEO walks around his school i don't think so But what ends a trip back into the past? Is it shock from Sol? Sunjae? Something happening that's definitely off-track like TaeSun asking her to be his gf? Aarrrghh so many questions.

Kwon Min-woo did not change in the end

let me explain why I am upset with Kwon Minwoo's redemption attempt in case you too were conflicted about liking him at the end cause something still felt very, very off.

It was because they redeemed him for the wrong sin.

Kwon Minwoo has been called a tactician and strategist throughout the show so much that even the writer seemed to think that his main problem was that he was too cautious and liked to stay safe by playing up to authority and refusing to challenge it.

So his final arc was written to inspire some courage in him so he would stand up and defend his colleagues instead of pandering to his senior's ego.

And the inspiration was injected through Soo-yeon's affection for him.

So finally the cowardly lion found some "foolish" courage and all was well.

EXCEPT IT WAS NOT.

Kwon Min-woo was never hated by the fandom because he was too cautious to stand up for his friends or take any risks.

The man walked into Taesun and blackmailed Tae Su-mi.

Stomp on that silly notion right now.

KWON MIN-WOO IS AN ACE OPPORTUNIST.

And his biggest sin was not his cowardice or even his ambition but the fact that he treated Woo Young-woo as a misplaced alien who was taking up resources and attention that he wanted for himself.

The flaw his character should have been redeemed for WAS NEVER ADDRESSED.

Because Kwon Min-woo never had a moment when he showed remorse or even realisation of his own prejudice.

Even the SHOW didn't challenge Min-woo whenever he ranted about Young-woo's "advantages".

Attorney Jung Myung-suk politely told him off for bringing up punishments for Young-woo once but didn't sit the man down to address the underlying reasons for his hostility towards his colleague.

Soo-yeon could only stare at him baffled and later could only beg him to become a braver person.

None of which is an adequate call out of his behaviour.

Everyone just ignored his behaviour like it'll go away if they pretended nothing happened.

HOW CAN A CHARACTER BE REDEEMED WHEN HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT HE DID WRONG??

And this is on the writer and director!

You guys created this man. How did you forget his main flaw? 🫣

Now, Kwon Min-woo - the character - was initially an excellent piece of writing. The actor Joo Jong-hyuk poured a wry charisma into his skin and made him remarkably memorable.

He was instantly familiar to a majority of the audience as that guy who always saw the worst in people and situations. Who would never extend a hand of help because he wouldn't want to "look weak". Who would ignore workplace unfairness so long as it didn't affect him and would only quietly observe to calculate if the situation can directly benefit him at all!

We all poured out unique experiences with someone "like him" into Kwon Minwoo, but ultimately we all hated him because he was mean to Woo Young-woo and it was unjustified.

And the story forgot that.

I don't blame anyone for wanting his redemption. Everyone deserves the chance to change.

BUT KWON MIN-WOO NEVER CHANGED.

Two failed high fives and an awkward smile doesn't mean a thing when it comes after a thoughtless betrayal just a few episodes ago.

He revealed to the reporter first that Young-woo was Tae Su-mi's birth mother. He knew nothing of her situation or her relationship with Tae Su-mi but he did this anyway so Young-woo would suffer.

Then he mailed evidence in her name to their rival to get Young-woo fired.

When a character falls into the pits of evil, you have to show a massive effort of conscience to convince the audience that he climbed all the way out.

We got nothing.

and that's why you and I are upset.

Cause Kwon Min-woo had real potential for a great redemption arc and the drama failed him AND US.

Kaili had been kissing Taesun all day long. As he did every day, new year or not. It was exciting, though. Different. This was their first new year together. That meant they were starting their first full year being together. It was precious and perfect and unforgettable!

They had been buzzing all day long. Fawning over Taesun, serving him food and manifesting whatever he wanted, nothing was too difficult or too much. Even if Taesun told him to just relax, he couldn't. Kaili wanted to show just how much he loved him.

When it finally came close to midnight, Kaili had gathered poppers and drinks and set everything up to be just right. In the end, though, none of it mattered. As they counted down, Kaili took Taesun's hands to stand, and could only focus on him. All that was important was his love.

Counted down, down, down...

When fireworks were let off, they moved arms around Taesun's neck and held him tight. He kissed him as if it would be the last time - his heart was shared by his lips, his devotion through his tongue, his admiration through each warm exhale.

Even long after the fireworks had ended, Kaili refused to pull away. He moved the other back to the couch and climbed onto his lap. He wanted to show Taesun just how happy he was to be starting the year with him.

I think Kwon Min-Woo’s worldview can be summed up with the instance in Episode 8 where Taesan employees are getting signatures from the residents of the town, and while Su-Yeon stands overwhelmed, he rushes past her while trying to work against Taesun’s comedically larger numbers. He even pointedly screams, “Why am I the only one working?!”

He sees the professional world as a contest that is flooded with competitors. To him, no matter the circumstances, the point of it all is to win. He believes he is entitled to sabotage his peers because to him, they’re all playing the same game. He even says to Tae Su Mi that he wants to work where he will be empowered by having secrets over other people.

Kwon Min Woo is not passionate about his job out of ideology; He sees himself as part of a much larger system. More specifically, a system where you’re almost encouraged to cheat to get ahead. When he finds out Woo Young Woo benefited from nepotism, he’s outraged that she got an “unfair advantage”. From then on, it’s like he’s working from the view of “If the system is already rigged, why shouldn’t I rig it for myself?”

biography.

ONE. born in south korea, but raised in melbourne, australia, a land she calls home to this day. an only child, her mother is a well-known actress and model, and her father, an aspiring screenwriter who never fulfilled his dreams, and later became a bookstore owner. their relationship was the talk of the media from the start, and as a result, tai has been surrounded by cameras from an early age.

TWO. since childhood, rubbing shoulders with famous people, it was logical that tai wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps, due to her good relationships it was easy to get jobs for her daughter, it was fun, exciting, her earliest memories are of being on a set, small roles for all type of series, modeling gigs for clothing catalogs and a handful of tv commercials, nothing very significant or substantial actually, just a little girl dreaming about stars and ballerinas.

 THREE. she discovers her true passion latter on, showing a natural talent for music. at twelve years old, she enters a talent show where she comes in second and everything cascades from there, signing a contract with the label and with her mother, who doubled as an agent, controlling, and taking care of every aspect of her life, at age nineteen she became a recognizable face for the australian public, soon enough there is one hit single and others coming up. and of course, tai enjoyed her profession, with an undying love for music and playing pretend.

FOUR. but everything that goes up has to come down, cruel comments began to appear sooner rather than later, 'tai is only someone daughter', 'talentless singer’, ‘industry plant’, endless variations, the seemed popular opinion, and there's only so much flak you can take before you start to believe it too, and the 'maybe they're right' appearing on her mind,  little by little her presentations stopped having the enthusiasm, the accustomed radiance, in her mind it is useless to try so hard if they are going to hate you anyways.

FIVE. it all culminates in a fateful live performance on a morning show, the release of a new single, and an altercation produced by a anxiety attack, too public to be swept under the rug, and nothing was the same from then on. there isn't much left to do, her reputation already being tarnished, and the only way other than to retrieve with what's left and the goals that weren't met.

SIX. giving her music career a second chance doesn't happen until years later, in fact, she moves to california to study for a degree in history, the glitz and the glamours, the feeling of being loved by a crowd, are just so alluring, and whats the worst that can happen? it turns out, tai finds out almost right away, the worst thing that can happen it succeeding, trapped by your own ambitions, by your own dreams.

the kind of person who can't fake a smile, but smiles often, easy-going attitude, FRIENDLY, although bad for small talk, constantly commits the sin of being to QUIET, sullen even, she likes to think of herself as a proper tortured artist. DISCIPLINED like few , she puts her tasks at the center of her life, there is a certain obsession with being virtuous, which leads her to be SELF-CRITICAL with her own mistakes. she enjoys cotidianity and a simple life, with deep-rooted customs, it is difficult for her to leave her comfort zone, which makes her a bit LONELY, but she is absurdly LOYAL, willing to take risks for those they consider valuable people in her life.

long term crush. she literally develops crushes on anyone who is nice to her for two seconds, what happens with this specific person is that, surely, they became friends, and tai never lost her crush on them, and she doesn't confess anything either because she is terrified that the other person doesn't feel the same. can be reciprocated or unrequited, it's about the craving, actually.

ex almost something. the kind of relationship they could have even gotten married in, but nothing ever really happened, I guess things ended just because of the long term crush mentioned above. tai just can't get over it and that's how the relationship is ruined, it's really about the angst.

dearest frenemie. they just can't stand each other, but there's something there, it's not that they really hate each other, it's just their worldviews are too different, but you got to work on a project together, and you're the only other person in the whole cast with the one I can talk about, if you are insufferable the others are so much worse.

stranger like me. they are both a bit averse to public life and prefer to just live their lives minding their own business, I imagine they can spend hours talking to each other over coffee, bonus points if they can geek about music, literature, history or art in general.

this being said, i really open to plotting almost anything! .
