whatever kirinji was cooking up from 2016-2018 was really something
i saw they became more known outside japan w killer tune kills me, and jikan ga nai (maybe aliens counts too, but that was when kirinji wasn't the band now, but just the two brothers), which im very happy to see, they're one of my favourite artists ever 😭🫶
i posted this song's live version before, it's an experience lol. the way the song was performed reminded me a little of talking heads. which yknow. i love way too much as well

How to tell who composed what song in a Klonoa game
If the song gives you loads of feels, or if it's a leitmotif for someone who isn't a villain, it's Eriko Imura.
If the song is platforming music for a level set in Breezegale or Jugpot, or if it's cutscene music for Ghadius, it's Junko Ozawa.
If the song is really fun and it’s not Junko Ozawa, it's Kanako Kakino.
If the song is really badass, or if it plays in the settings menu, it's Kohta Takahashi.
If the song has anything to do with Joka, or if it has a lot of techno going on, it's Tetsukazu Nakanishi.
If the song is just kinda electronic and ambient and not-that-impressive, it's Hiromi Shibano.
If the song is electronic and ambient and actually quite impressive, it's Go Shiina.
If the song is cutscene music for Seadoph or Granny (“the Chieftess” if you’re playing the Wiimake), it's Takaki Horigome.
If the song is battle music for Nahatomb, it's Hiroshi Okubo.
If the song is either the ending cutscene of Door to Phantomile or its credits, it's Tomoko Tatsuda.
If the song has anything to do with the King of Sorrow or the Ark, or if it's for the Joilant plaza or Jungle Slide, or if it's the sort of thing Eriko Imura would normally compose but she was sick at the time, it's Asuka Sakai.
If the song has anything to do with Volk City, it's Yuji Masubuchi.
If the song has anything to do with Joilant but it's not the main plaza or the Jungle Slide, or if it plays in the Sea of Tears and doesn't fit any of the other composers, or if it has anything to do with Guntz, it's Katsuro Tajima.

Klonoa Chronicles #60
Klonoa Chronicles is a series of tweets by Klonoa’s original creator, Hideo Yoshizawa, that give insights into the development of the games he had a hand in making. Below is a translation along with the original Japanese text
Klonoa Chronicles #60! This time, I'd like to talk about background music.
Tumblr media
In the end, nine sound staff members were involved in Klonoa's BGM. At first, it was just the chief, Ms. Imura, and we didn't have that many songs in the BGM specification, but with the strong storyline, the sound team started requesting different songs here and there, or changing the atmosphere here, and the number increased.
One of them was Takaki Horigome, and when I went to tell him what I thought of the song, he said, "I'm actually going to quit my job soon, because I'm too busy with my personal activities.” “That's too bad, good luck.”, I said to him.
However, a little while later he formed a band called Kirinji with his brothers and they made their major label debut. He was an amazing man.
Tumblr media
Initially, I just told Ms. Imura, who was in charge of sound, that I imagined the background music to be like Sha·Rion (シャ・リオン), the theme song of a TV program called The Adventure of Wordsworth (ワーズワースの冒険), and gave her the CD.
Tumblr media
In my mind, this song was the song of rebirth, and I imagined the ending scene many times while listening to this song.
In fact, the lyrics of this song are also made up in an imaginary language. It gave me the feeling of a different world that I hadn't seen yet, and it stayed with me.
Now that I think about it, this may have been the origin of the idea for Phantomile or Klonoa. Anyway, I think this song was the beginning of the unification of songs using ethnic instruments. To be continued.

AKUDAMA (means heel) is one of my favorite songs. The lyrics touched my heart. This song and lyrics were made by Japanese pop group KIRINJI (Takaki Horigome).

Give this album a listen: bird
(i kept the spotify caption bc i thought it's funny)
realizing i don't post enough of female artists i like, so here's one i absolutely love. unsurprisingly i first heard of bird from kirinji, bc they covered a song of hers titled 髪をほどいて(kami wo hodoite, undo your hair), w lyrics by bird herself, and the music by takaki horigome ! a full list of the musicians involved can be found here.
bird is more known for her R&B/jazzy sound, as she started as a singer in jazz clubs, but this lush city pop fits her so much too....plus her lyrics are beautiful 🌹
