Takeaways from my mentor
I meet with my mentor as and when he’s available. He manages my family’s money and he’s very good at what he does - his firm manages about $5 billion, and I have great conversations with him.
I don’t want to talk too much about him, but he came from a lower middle class background and today is wealthy beyond comprehension. He could buy a plane or two in the middle of the night if he wanted.
Today we focused a lot of personal growth in my career.
He gave me two books - The Inheritors by Sonu Bhasin and Fortune’s Children by Arthur Vanderbilt.

Here are some brief takeaways:
Work backwards from the outcome you want.
Define the outcome of where you want to be and plan it backwards to your current position.
2. Eliminate, eliminate, eliminate.
Life is all about elimination. Don’t focus  on your weaknesses, focus on your strengths. Eliminate all the things you know you’re not good at, you have no interest in and that make you depressed.
3. Intellectual honesty.
Be honest with yourself about things you are good at and are not.  The easiest person to fool is yourself.
4. Read one business biography a week.
Everything you’re going in life, there’s a 99% chance someone else has gone through it and come out of it victorious. He also mentioned this article.
5. Outline 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses.

6. (In business/ corporate careers) You’re either primarily an investor (you’d rather fund companies and start ups than start them), an operator (you’d rather build something hands on), or a manager (you’d rather periodically manage something hands off. Like for instance you could have your own franchise bakery chain where you don’t need to exercise minute control over every franchise but you still ensure that there’s some managing done from your part).
7. Do not have extreme ideologies at this age.
Not when it comes to religion, politics, etc.
8. Emotions, money and your time are something you need to be ruthless about. Absolutely ruthless.
Be careful about the friends you have and the influence they have on you.

Elsa and Cassandra are... amused by Rapunzel’s struggles with chopsticks 😂
How are your chopstick skills? Rapunzel level? Or pro level like Elsa and Cass?

Fantastic summer outfit, featuring a super chic houmongi made from tsumugi silk with a goshodoki* pattern, paired with a quiet take (bamboo) patterned obi.
Goshodoki depicts imaginary sceneries from imperial palaces, their gardens full with plants and flowers of the four seasons. The obi chosen here compliments the kimono well, as the bamboos enclosed in rectangular shapes seems to be seen through windows.

some takeaways from the first Raptors preseason game:
-I enjoyed it even though it wasn't perfect. It was actually entertaining??? And they played like a team!!! 😭🥺
-I didn't miss FVV as much as I thought. 😳
-Seeing all the bench players play was shocking, I forgot that there were so many players on the team (when Matt Devlin said Malachi Flynn was checking in during the first quarter, I was like, "Malachi FLYNN???" in shock out loud). 🤣
-Some of the bench players still need practice, but that's okay because playing in Practice and being in Competition are two different things. Hopefully with time and more minutes, they will improve. 👀
-Really enjoyed the Gradey Dick chants. 😂
-And finally, I really liked Garrett Temple's pink shoes (I remain a pink girlie at heart, what can I say). 🤣💖

A Court of Thorns and Roses was definitely a significant improvement from the last book involving a shapeshifting mythological faerie I read. Parts of it started [almost] the same way as the last one and there wasn’t one element of it that surprised me in any capacity. I knew the answer to the riddle the moment I finished reading it, but then again, it’s because I do read.
“Hunt this!”
I was genuinely surprised--and amused--to find a literal worm and not a snake or basilisk.
Tumblr media
I did enjoy it. Yet I felt--and this is quite possibly because I haven’t read a true YA novel in a long time--that it was a little watered down and “safe” from what it could’ve been. I understand some things need to be toned down a little for the demographic, but there was still more she could’ve leaned into. In some parts it needed more show where it told, but the bulk of my hesitancy in reviewing it comes from where internal depth and conflict became more surface-level and hollow.
I did like it. I don’t know if I liked it enough to continue rather than just looking up spoilers, but oddly, I actually felt like the book started to find its rhythm more towards the end. It felt like a little twist to the Cupid and Psyche tale.
I liked Feyre. I think she could’ve been more, but I liked her. Unlike so many fantasy heroines these days, she wasn’t allergic to being a normal female, and she had compassion and heart I wasn’t expecting. She made the usual kinds of stupid decisions protagonists in these types of stories make, yet she did back it up a little better and was at least self-aware. That wins points with me. She’s a little unrealistically trusting in a variety of ways.
Tamlin’s one I feel like I don’t really know. He didn’t feel like an old immortal to me. He’s the one where I really think Maas played it too safe, but I don’t want to comment too much further on that. I loved the Summer Solstice scene. I did like the take on a gentler type of faerie lord. I’d personally be questioning a lot if I were in Feyre’s position. I’m sure I’m not supposed to as a reader, but I was. I wanted him off the pedestal.
I think his and Feyre’s relationship could’ve benefitted from a slower burn and a little more conflict. Not big misunderstandings; just little adjustment periods or something of that sort.
Lucien was by far my favorite of this lot. I always love a more well-rounded smartass and a master of third wheels. I love a loyal friend with depth, too.
I figured Rhys out a little too quickly, but he also for whatever reason was the switch that turned my fuller ability to pay attention to this book on. From what I’ve read so far, his magic was by far the coolest and he was a little more what I expected in this type of read. I’m not saying I want cookie-cutter characters, but this story definitely needed him. For balance, weird fantasy grounding, or something else, I don’t know.
So, overall, I liked the book. I don’t feel that strongly one way or another, but I had fun reading it.

For your ask: Top 5 takeaway meals!
a GREAT question that I am treating as top 5 takeaway meals I've had rather than the five I choose between:
Duck in plum sauce with boiled rice from one place near my house at uni that was so good I ordered it the next day again to check it wasn't a fluke
chips and cheese and salmonella (aka chips cheese and mayo) from efe's burger van followed by sitting in the tiny graveyard next to costa with the light installation that looked like aliens (@crimeandcricket knows whats what)
The time we got takeaway evil eye indonesian food and me and my dad went to pick it up and we had perfect gin martinis together at 11am while waiting for our nasi goreng and soto ayam to be finished.
the vietnamese place that did lamb in garlic sauce, garlic pak choi and extra large boiled rice that was so good but also enough food for a week near the first place I lived in London
any and all parmos I have ever had, up to and including:
a) the first parmo I had at a sleepover at uni where we watched horror movies and I got over my snobbery and any chance I'll be a size 14 again
b) the first hungover parmo I had, which was more memorable than the night out
c) the parmo from the place across the road from my third year flat that put mushrooms and onions on it
d) the first parmo I had outside of teeside and the relief I felt when I had it and it was still good
e) the only parmo I have had in London that my friends did a round trip to Straford to get for me for my 27th birthday, that I ate as pre-game for my birthday party with the hot tub.

Plasticene
Tumblr media
