Wonky
flickr
Wonky by Pete Rowbottom, Wigan, UK Via Flickr: The first shot from an overnight shoot up to Anglesey for Comet Neowise (shots to follow) It would have been rude not to combine a Sunset and a Sunrise either side of the main event as it were. I decided to shoot the delightfully 'wonky' leaning lighthouse on Talacre Beach, North Wales on the way, the light was great for a good 40 minutes here and was well worth stopping off, the low sun here catching the Marram grass... The plants to the left of the frame caught my eye here as an ideal foregound to use, I'm informed it is called 'Sea Holly' ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Portfolio of images on my own website here -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lighthouse Talacre sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing. My sketches start life as hand-drawn graphite images made on cartridge paper. I often work on these with charcoal, oil pastel or Caran d'Ache to create the look I'm after. The artwork is then scanned and finessed digitally ready for fine art printing. This process often referred to as Giclée printing uses the highest standard of printing methods to give gallery quality results that maintain all the details of the original sketch. The graphite pencils I use are Faber-Castel, the oil pastels are Sennelier and the china-graph is Caran d’Ache. The inks are pigment based archive quality (100years+). The heavyweight specialist papers I use are of the best professional quality having a wonderful surface designed specifically for fine art drawings and illustrations. Very limited editions with only ten per size printed. All artwork is signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. The A5 are 5.8" x 8.25" (14.8cm x 21cm) The A4 are 8.25" x 11.7" (21cm x 29.8cm) The A3 are 11.7" x 16.5" (29.8 cm x 42cm) The A2 are 16.5" x 23.4" (42 cm x 59.4cm) Originals are A3 11.7" x 16.5" (29.8 cm x 42cm) Frames not included in price. Competitor Research - The Beaches Hotel & Talacre Beach Resort, Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel and Turnberry Lighthouse Hotel
After researching, I would consider a competitor to be ‘The Beaches Hotel’ which is actually fairly close to the Ayr Lighthouse. It is a six minutes walk to the beach and is relatively close to shops like the lighthouse.
Tumblr media
Some differences between this Hotel and the Ayr Lighthouse Hotel, are that of course the Ayr Lighthouse Hotel is not just any sort of hotel. I believe it’s important I state this on the website page and emphasise how the hotel is a spooky but fun experience for guests. Some photographs from ‘The Beaches Hotel’ include:

Talacre Beach Resort
Another competitor would be Talacre Beach Resort. Talacre Beach Resort is known for being situated near Talacre Beach which is where the Lighthouse of Ayr is located.
Some photographs of Talacre Beach Resort include:

My primary and most pushing competitor would be the Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel
Tumblr media
- Built in 1815, has rooms around the lighthouse?  - Included breakfast menu - Just like the Point of Ayr lighthouse, it has fantastic views - Located in Scotland One thing I noticed was the website is poorly designed as well as the menus which could put some people off. It is also located in Scotland which, for some people travelling from England for example, would be a long journey assuming they were to drive there.  Point of Ayr Lighthouse Alternative?  - Closer - Many restaurants and shops nearby - Interesting stories behind the Lighthouse - A fun spooky experience?
Turnberry Lighthouse - Lighthouse located in Girvan UK,  - First exhibited in August 1873 - Displays a light every 12 seconds to distinguish itself from the nearby Corsewall. What makes this lighthouse interesting is the history behind it and how it was turned into a halfway house. In 2016, it was turned into a Lighthouse Suite which featured a bar open to golfers and members of the public.  - Features two luxurious rooms    Established:  1873 Height of tower:  24 metres Elevation of light:  29 metres Automated:  1986 Range of light:  12 miles Fog signal:  Discontinued

What would make my redesigned Lighthouse Hotel stand out?- Lighthouse- On the beach- Spooky experience- Circular rooms?- Haunted history- Unique accommodation

It operates six-holiday parks in North Wales. Their flagship park is Plas Coch in Llanedwen. A spokesperson for the Park said: "The pool at Talacre Beach Caravan and Leisure Park was built before the guidelines were introduced and the company had invested over PS50,000 to make the pool safer." The operator of Talacre Beach Caravan and Leisure Park, Plas Coch Holiday Homes Ltd. pleaded guilty to a health and safety charge and admitted that they had not carried out a risk assessment of the operation of the swimming pool. Plas Coch Holiday Homes Limited, formerly Talacre Beach Caravan Sales Limited, has a new owner. Now known as Plas Coch Holiday Homes, the company has reformed and has a good safety record. There's a funny story about Talacre lighthouse in my family, when I got married 28 years ago, my new husband promised me a honeymoon in Talacre. I had no idea where that was and was impressed he had been able to sock enough money away for a holiday abroad only to find out we were going to Talacre in Wales for a day out. Disappointed much! I can see the lighthouse from the beach with my eyes its that close. So much for a honeymoon abroad 🤣🤣🤣 This image was taken during a photo walk with #welshotimaging last week, we were hoping for a sunset but it was blocked by low clouds. #welshot2022 #talacre #talacrelighthouse #photogram #landscape_captures (at Talacre Beach) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeRMCvWj42g/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Point of Ayr Lighthouse by Tony Via Flickr: also known as the Talacre Lighthouse, is a grade II listed building situated on the north coast of Wales, on the Point of Ayr, near the village of Talacre. It was built in 1776 by a Trust of the Major, Recorder and Aldermen of Chester to warn ships entering between the Dee and the Mersey Estuary. It was replaced by a pile light and was decommissioned in 1844. It is now a privately owned property.
