i keep seeing people say that talia and jason had sex while he was working with the league and i guess im a little confused because… didn’t she meet the dude when he was a child, and then stalked him because he impressed her, and then brought him back from the dead when he was fifteen? i feel like it’s a weird headcanon to have. wanted to hear your opinion lmfao i might be wrong but it always seemed to me like talia was more of a mother figure to him. and im a little scared to post a blog of it if i’m wrong 🤪

Yes, actually, in Red Hood Lost Days #6 they did sleep together. To me, it felt borderline like statutory rape on Talia's part. There is, of course, something to be said about the difference between illegal and immorale. She knew him as a kid, raised him to some extent, and patiently waited until he turned 18. That's text book grooming, but that isn't illegal. It feels out of character of her pre-retcon, but is compatible with with her actions post-it. The problem with there being many writers for a single character is their different takes melting into one big inconsistent pot. She was loving, motherly, kind and protective at one point. She and Bruce's love was genuine and they had Damian consensually, abeilt with out Bruce's knowledge. And then, as yet another victim of oriantalism and the persistent need for shock value, they made her a rapist, a groomer and an abusive mom. Bruce doesn't grapple with unknowingly being sexually abused, Jason doesn't struggle with sleeping with a mother figure, and Damian doesn't confront being the product of rape. This was essentially for nothing but a spur of the moment, sensationalist "she did not!" reaction from the public. This oversight diminishes Talia as a character, effectively disappointing the fans who viewed her as a nurturing, kind-hearted woman.

beyond its perfect encapsulation of bruce and talia’s wistful, tragic dynamic, i really love this page for its subtle depiction of how the roles between them have significantly shifted. it’s no longer a heartbroken, principled talia making decisions for (son of the demon) or lecturing a petulant bruce (no man’s land) to remember that he has responsibilities to people other than himself. he’s the one who makes the decision here, who mirrors her steadfast sense of responsibility and duty to the world, who ends their sabbatical with an affectionate kiss because he’s in a better position now than he ever was before to understand the way they balance their worlds with each other. they’re not meant to be “together” in the most literal sense of the word, unyielding to the rest of the world, constant. but they’re together in the sense that they share the same vision for themselves. trysts are meaningful because they’re an expression of circumstances unchanged. i cannot love you while holding you close but i cherish every moment with you and walk away knowing that we will repeatedly gravitate back to this place and time in our lives because it is also where we are meant to be

He's done bad things but he hasn't done them out of genuine assholery, like he genuinely cares but bro has no clue on how to deal with the kids emotions.

And that doesn't necessarily make him a bad person. Maybe a bad parent but he isn't some evil abuser like the other side of the fandom makes him out to be, and he isn't a saint who loves to shelter kids like a mother hen either...

y'all need to start allowing people to do bad things cuz they DO. Parents can be emotionally abusive or give a kid trauma without even realizing. No, stop. Imagine going from a world where you’re not allowed to become emotionally attached to anything and you’re proned to violence for survival. Then you go form that to an emotionally distant and neglectful father who has been proned to violence since his 20s and has you go straight into breaking criminal necks in yellow suits.

Mind you, the only person who thought it’s be a good idea to have Damian completely taken out of their lives as they were was Talia Al Ghul. She wanted to give him up to adoption in secret so he wouldn’t have to grow up in the league or with Bruce Wayne.

Imagine your parents love you to death but just that, it’s always to death: they can never just show you like a normal person what loves supposed to be. They always gotta show it differently and how confusing that must be for a child?

We simply do not ignore the bad things Bruce does to Damian like we do Talia but I do and I always will. The morrison run was too important to Damian’s story to ignore and City of Bane, etc was too important an event to ignore. Fortunately, we have cognitive thought and can determine what’s in character and that even bad actions doesn’t mean these characters just always had bad intentions. Damian will always be their baby boy, they love him so much but unfortunately… they love him in a way that accommodates for both their seperate missions… which is why he’s so between two worlds…

I truly couldn’t like Talia, Bruce and Damian if they were exempted from all bad action; it’s fun only when there’s complexity… I don’t read these comics for family feels anyway but I also take this things head on because well, they did them and it can’t be ignored how we wish it could.
