LMAO
I'm sorry but I want the lady from "Telenovelas are Hell" narrating this whole arc
Would you rather being sold to slavery by your narcissistic parents, be experimented on by mad alien scientists that look like frogs, or marry a man you don't love to save your planet only to have said planet usurped anyway by your evil sister? Well, folks you don't have to make up your mind, because in the 80's comic book Los Nuevos Jóvenes Titanes starring Princess Koriand'r that all happens to one single person

Jericho: Direct Quotes from 1984-1991
Tumblr media
Joseph Wilson, AKA Jericho, was created by Marv Wolfman and George George Pérez for The New Teen Titans.
Joe is mute and DC has varied their care in portraying that. In his original appearances Joe is fluent in sign language, and that is his preferred way of speaking. However, even though Joe is constantly signing, the comics do not always translate his signing for the reader to follow.
I set out to collect specifically direct quotes from his original slate of appearances. From his intro in Tales of the Teen Titans #42 to just before Titans: Hunt, stopping at The New Titans #69. This list collects either direct translations of his signing, or quoted thought/bubbles, with their punctuation preserved.
This does not include his ability to talk using the voice, verbiage, and tone of the unconscious person he's possessing (a power used a lot right at his introduction, which then tapers off), or the times when he is shown to be signing but we are not given a direct translations of said signs.
This also does not contain his narration in The New Teen Titans #47, which is Danny and Joey reading the auto/biographies of the Titans Joe has written. This is only because that would be a transcript of the entire issue, and I don't think I can fit that in a post.
Finally, this list does not include any spoken quotes from Titans: Hunt, where he was inexplicably able to speak verbally. I didn't include those for two reasons: 1. While there are a few moments when it's clear Joe is speaking and not the Souls of Azarath, ultimately they are both influencing eachother, so we can't be sure it is only Joe's words and verbiage. 2. This post is intended to function as an record of how little Joe was able to express himself in his own/preferred language.
I've included the full quotes, issues they're from, and a brief summery of what Joe is referring to, so beware of spoilers. Where I could not summarize the conversation, I have included Joe and the person he's talking with's dialogue.
I've tried to organize these quotes chronologically, but I may have made a mistake or missed a few. If you spot any, let me know; I'd love for this post to be as accurate as possible.

Your Starfire Cosplay is coming out so unbelievably good. Like how are you not working in like costumes for movie sets? It’s award worthy! So stunning! And the amount of work that must go into making everything! Wow!
I was wondering if you could give us more thoughts on the whole sibling dynamic between Kory and her siblings because I find that so fascinating! Like on one side you have Kory and everything that can be explored there but you also have Kom who is disabled and her narrative there and then you have Ryand’r who isn’t really explored as much.
what I find interesting about the dynamic of this family is that Ryand'r was so obviously tacked on at the end in an after thought which is like such a real youngest child in a busy/important/high profile family thing lmao
before we jump into it I want to make a few disclaimers:
I am not a mental health professional of any kind, I just have some surface level research behind me on like sibling and parent dynamics
I am not going to be excusing or endorsing some of Komand'r's more violent actions in her adulthood but also please remember that Kom is like a fictional character in a silly comic book
I will be talking both about the in-universe narrative that developed over time and the way it developed out of order in real time
Tumblr media
okay let's get into it
their family dynamic honestly isn't super complicated but it is really interesting. the narrative sets Kory and Kom up as the scapegoat vs. the golden child (which is funny bc Kory is...the golden girl. goldie. etc.), Kom is also the black sheep of the family for obvious reasons, and Ryand'r is just lost in the shuffle which, as far as I understand, is pretty common for the third child in this kind of family dynamic.
Kom was set up for failure. a pretty important city, the city of Kysarr, was destroyed by the Citadel. the only source I can find on this is from Who's Who volume 2 (which is misattributed on her wiki as v. 1 #13, when it's v. 2 #13, but I'm banned from editing the wiki so whatever they'll just have to live with the mistake):
Tumblr media
[image text: Komand'r was the eldest child of Tamaran's royal family, and the first princess born in almost a century. As such she should have been courted and showered with honors, but Komand'r was instead reviled. On the day of her birth, the dreaded Citadel Empire attacked and destroyed the western Tamaranean city of Kysarr and Killed three thousand citizens in her name. Due to no fault of her own, Komand'r was for all time inextricably linked with Tamaran's day of infamy.]
now, this destruction of Kysarr is not included in her or Kory's backgrounds in any comic, so this is something that's thrown into the continuity in 1991 and never spoken of again because it's in a total throw away comic. BUT that's exactly what makes it so interesting. so, let's go into this with the retcon context that Kom's day of birth was marked with destruction and this, alongside her disability, made her parents consider setting her aside as heir and having another kid (who would have previously been the spare, if Kom hadn't been "sickly" when she was born, as Kory says in The Tales of the New Teen Titans #4).
(as an aside: this profile on Kom also says that Myand'r is like a puppet ruler, which is not quite accurate, so we might also take this added Komand'r seasoning with a pinch of salt)
so, with this added context, we could see maybe why Kom would hold so much resentment toward her younger sister. Kory, being the golden child, is both aware of her parents treatment toward her disabled older sister and misunderstands it.
Tumblr media
[The Tales of the New Teen Titans #4]
so, Kory says that "even when [they] were children the differences between [them] were so very apparent" but neglects to say why those differences may have been so apparent. she also says that "those were such happy days for [her]" and that there's one thing she could do that Kom couldn't, which is: fly. Kom can't fly. she has never been able to fly. in the page above, you can see Kory flying with her mother while her father watches and just below that, we can infer that the contrail in the distance behind Kom is either Kory or their mother, Luand'r.
can you see, maybe, why Kom would hate Kory? it's not Kory's fault. their parents literally pit them against each other because they're not good parents. it's clear from this alone that Myand'r and Luand'r are neglectful parents and even if they aren't neglecting Komand'r on purpose they are neglecting her in favor of Kory. so, Kom starts to escalate her abuse toward Kory in a bid for their attention and to ensure that Kory is as miserable as possible. Kom is forcing Kory to atone for the sins of the father (and mother) because in her child mind, Kory is the source of all her problems and if she can eliminate her or, at the very least, make her miserable, Kom can again gain the approval and love of their parents. it's unclear if she ever had this to begin with but she wants it so bad.
and, in turn, Kory wants her sister's love more than anything when they're children. it doesn't matter that Komand'r is abusive and will do whatever she can to make Kory's life hell, Kory wants her sister to be a sister to her. (any of you that have siblings know that sibling relationships are very rarely nice growing up, though, so Kory is striving for something that might not even be possible if Kom was like loved and cherished by their parents)
Tumblr media
Raven quite literally asks Kory if their parents favored her over Kom and she kind of hand waves it away with a "well not in the beginning" which is like. such a golden child thing to say. they didn't care for her before she betrayed Tamaran, which is pretty clear from Kory's whole narrative up to this point, and what's the core of the why of the matter? Kom couldn't be their perfect paragon of a Tamaranean princess and she couldn't complete the image of a perfect Tamaranean royal family. which is very obvious if you read all her appearances and then read the second Tamaran arc where Myand'r uses Kory as a bargaining chip. if Komand'r had not been disabled, she would have been that very same bargaining chip, but because she's disabled she is then pushed away, punished for her disability, made into the scapegoat for an entire planet, and eventually begins to buy into that and becomes like a really bad fucking person, right?
it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
and then Ryand'r is just like. there.
Tumblr media
literally, he's just there. we get this one glimpse of him (which is a hard maybe because this kid is never named) in New Teen Titans v1. #3 and then we don't see him again until 1982 when he is a literal infant:
Tumblr media
that's a baby.
we meet full grown Ryand'r in New Teen Titans Annual #1 (love annuals) where it's revealed that he's alive! which is funny because I think most people forgot he even existed considering the last time they saw him he was like. an infant.
Tumblr media
he does it in the funniest way possible and just pops out of the jungle after Kory curbstomped their sister. like. okay. you didn't want to, like, help your older sister who you most definitely don't remember because you had not gained sentience yet as you were busy being under a year old when she left the planet to train. I guess I wouldn't get involved either idk.
so, Kory, for some reason, believed Kom when she said Ryand'r KILLED THEIR PARENTS and then is like oh damn you're alive and you didn't kill them? that's cool I guess.
so, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that no one in this family has a real relationship with Ryand'r because Kory 1. believes this absolute lie their very obvious liar of an older sister made up and 2. is also surprised to not only see him alive but to see him as an adult and that just doesn't scream "I care about my younger brother and think about him when we are not together".
(also, ryan's age doesn't quite add up, considering Kory and Kom are the right ages but he's like...an adult...and not a preteen. like. sure. and no do not go "but time passes differently on tamaran" because in-universe it most certainly does not pass any differently because Marv Wolfman, like me, does not care to calculate time differences between planets)
so between Kory being surprised that he's alive and Kom making up whatever she wants about him I think that we could say that there's no real relationship between the siblings. like I said earlier, Ryand'r is just lost in the shuffle and like at the first sight of trouble he peaces out and leaves the planet. he's done this like as much as Kory has peaced out from Earth when she needs a break. this has, I think, impeded his ability to like truly form a relationship with Tamaran and his people because he's just neglected by everyone. there isn't a lot of info on his childhood and from the way we see his parents deal with his sisters, we might be able to come to the conclusion that he was also pretty much left to his own devices.
which is sad but nothing egregious happened to him in childhood. when he was older, he was also experimented on by the Psions and gained like the ability to burn people and things with his hands in a different way than Kom and Kory can (starbolts vs. thermal emissions) and that's like hugely traumatic and kind of binds him to his siblings in that way. is that every explored, though? no, it's not.
in Ryand'r's appearances that take place in the 90s and early 2000s (which is the last time he appears for a really long time), every time he appears it's to call Kory for help. one of these times he also asks her to help him commit genocide. so. just let that sink in. he's mostly just a plot device in later years and outside of his scant character development in the original Omega Men run he just doesn't to be an interesting character with a place in the dynamic of his family.

hi, i'm the NTT marriage arc anon, thank you so much for such an in-depth response! i see what you mean, it's weird that the narrative doesn't really engage with what it means for kory to never say no to her parents or even how her siblings feel about kory's situation - for instance, i would've liked to see ryand'r react to the position his big sis has been put in. other than her pain over losing nightwing, she doesn't get a lot of perspective at all. i think since the romance angle was the only focus, i was a lot more sympathetic to nightwing viewing this as cheating - though this might be because of my background too, since in recent years we've had a lot of activist/revolutionary movements advocating for staying with your partner of choice instead of the partner that your parents arranged for you and that's where my mind automatically jumps to. so my reaction was basically "yeah nightwing's right, why doesn't kory fight to be with the person she loves instead!!" because wolfman never even shows her trying, yet her anguish over nightwing breaking up with her is the only focus of her inner monologues.
and it's not like any other aspect of this conflict actually gets addressed later during the resolution - dick just eventually just ~accepts~ the fact that kory had to get married and they remain together. so it's like, what was even the point of the entire last arc if it was just gonna end with dick getting over himself or whatever and dating kory anyway, we didn't need all this drama lol. i think what irritates me is that i can't actually blame nightwing for thinking of kory and tamaran as a so-called backwards culture, because the narrative generally shows them as such. real-world xenophobia tends to be based on baseless assumptions, stereotypes, and misinterpretations of another culture, but wolfman literally shows tamaran as an aberrant, war-torn place to be imo. it's frustrating when a work of fiction half-heartedly tries to depict prejudice or bigotry but then inadvertently justifies it.
but anyway, i think what i liked about the cartoon on the other hand, was that 1) galfore, starfire's guardian who she views as family, also seemed opposed to the marriage but there was nothing he could do since he's not king. plus in the cartoon he didn't sell starfire into slavery like kory's family did in the comics, rather she was kidnapped - so it doesn't come across as kory being manipulated by a selfish family member who did her dirty in the past, but instead like she's nobly sacrificing herself for the greater good. imo that gives her agency and emphasizes her tendency toward heroism and self-sacrifice, whereas in the comics she's purely a victim of circumstance and doesn't even get to stand up for herself or what she really wants outside of everyone else's pressures in the end 2) the entire marriage is all orchestrated by blackfire for her own selfish purposes and once the ruse is up, everyone is unambiguously on starfire's side, which was nice to see. i think that relates to what you said about wanting to see someone other than joey react to this whole situation - it was just sweet to see the other teen titans fight for starfire and her planet against blackfire 3) imo robin + starfire's argument in the cartoon is way more balanced than in the comic because starfire actually strongly believes in doing this even if it means losing robin, who she obviously likes. in the comic she says she has to get married no matter what, but at the same time literally begs and screams nightwing not to go when he also takes a stand and says he can't continue dating her when she's literally going to be married to another man. like i know it's heightened 80s melodrama and even the readers at the time were bored by this based on the letters to the editor columns, but it came across as so pathetic to me. in the cartoon, starfire actually pushes robin back with her powers when he tries to persist, and, because they weren't actually dating at the time, i felt like starfire was justified in telling robin to shove off - in the comics, kory is in a serious relationship with nightwing and i didn't understand how she could ever expect him to be cool with this arrangement lol
also personally i didn't take the episode to be equating beauty to virtue, because the alien looks nothing like anything remotely resembling a human being or what an "ugly" person might look like - so i figured desirability politics wouldn't really apply here, but i get what you mean. again i wonder if they had to be so heavy-handed with showing that the marriage is unwanted, because if it were a conventionally attractive guy instead, ppl would try to justify the marriage somehow :/ i also wasn't trying to imply that you were defending arranged marriages somehow, if that's how it came across lol
re: the comparison with the man who tried to kill his wife for cheating - it's disgusting how normalized that kind of view (I.e. "abuse is just a conflict that can always be resolved with twwue wwove!!") was in not just 80s comics, but even comics that came after. i was reading the 2006 moon knight series and something very similar happens and is justified, that culminates with marc physically abusing his love interest marlene. also during 80s avengers, captain marvel is literally assaulted and yet she falls in love with her abuser later because apparently he hurt her out of his love for her or whatever. and more generally i think the 80s were when the "brucie always sleeps with a dozen air-headed models" thing really took off in batman comics whereas before the playboy thing was entirely a ruse, which really goes to show how shallowly writers viewed women.
This answer will hopefully be shorter because I'm on mobile not laptop :p
Yeah, the way korys general arcs are framed in ntt is pretty unsatisfying and Marv clearly does view her as dicks gf before he views her as a person. I think it might be hypothetically possible to dip a satisfying twist on the Tamaran arc, giving kory more support and making it clear how unfair her situation is (and would be even if she wasn't in a long term relationship). And with your asks and perspective I'm also thinking that someone from a culture where arranged marriages exist would probably be a lot more capable to treating the topic with the necessary gravitas.
I think ntt kory has a fascinating dichotomy where she's like. Very clear about what she wants... BUT she has such an abandonment complex (probably from her parents literally trading her into slavery) that she'll put up with way more in relationships than she would otherwise, and she'll put up with so much of her parents (and komandr becomes a convenient hateable avatar such that kory just puts all the issues on kom and does not acknowledge to herself her parents fault in this)
But anyway that's like a whole nother post I'd need to make when not super tired.
Not sure what more to say wrt Tamaran. I feel uncomfortable saying the narrative justifies bigotry. Like, there are abusive practices that hurt Kory, but that doesn't justify Dick being awful to her.
They definitely aren't a real culture, in that Marv made them up for the story, so all we see is what's on page. There's not like a secret "how tamaranean society actually is" guide out there. I think they are mostly portrayed as war like defensively, in that the whole system is invaded by citadel. Kory does clarify that peace is always preferable to war. I think it's portrayed flatly, but not entirely as negatively as you do. That said... it still is portrayed flatly. I'm honestly not sure if Wolfman was even trying to portrayed dick as prejudiced or what, the writing around there was so messy. (And also clarification: I think that at least some of dicks actions here are ooc, or at least not what I put in my interpretation of his character. My interpretation of dick would not leave a woman with her violent husband just bc they agreed they loved each other)
I sadly agree with you that if they made cartoon korys arranged husband physically attractive there would be some people justifying it... fandom is unreal ;_; I don't think u were really trying to pull in desirability politics I'm just terrified of being misinterpreted lol (hence the clarifying "I don't think arranged marriage is a good thing" last post). That said I still do think that it'd be more clear/a stronger moral if the guy looked human.
Anyway I hope I responded to most of your ask! Ty for sharing your thoughts

1OO IMPORTANT CHARACTER QUESTIONS
taken from beth kinderman and nikki walker’s the 100 most important things to know about your character. a good list to help develop a character’s background, personality, and general aspects.
(Template link here)
Tumblr media
PART 1: THE BASICS
What is your full name?
“Ryand'r. On Earth, I have taken up Wildfire for it is easier to pronounce for the humans.”
Where and when were you born?
“Within the castle of Tamaran, after my 2 sisters. The war was still going.”
Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
“Myand'r, the Grand Ruler of Tamaran, and Luand'r, his wife. He was a very good ruler, I believe. Very strong and confident and loud enough to convince the people. And mother was great, always supporting him, very caring for us children… but perhaps those descriptions are more wishful thinking than anything else, from me. I have not been many years at home so these might be images of them, and not truly how they were.”
Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
“I have not been with them for a long time, until recently. Blackfire has apparently become evil, she seems to always be acting with the intention to bring Starfire suffering or harm. I am very sorry that it has come to this. Starfire is wonderful. She is so happy and strong and open… she makes me happy and feel welcomed and she always helps people and likes to learn new things.”
Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
“I don’t really have a living place. I am often staying with friends, sometimes in the T-Tower for example, but it… would feel wrong to get myself my own home here.”
What is your occupation?
“I don’t have any! I am learning about Earth, and enjoying the friendships that I can make here, as… as long as I can.”
Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
“I have lighter skin than the typical tamaranean. I have red hair and blue eyes, and I am almost all the time wearing a tamaranean armor that I have possessed for many many years, as well as a similar cloak.”
To which social class do you belong?
“I don’t know of social classes.”
Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
“I am rather certain that I am weaker than the default tamaranean, although perhaps that is merely because of me thinking so. I am also unable to do the language-assimilation that all tamaraneans are capable of.”
Are you right- or left-handed?
“I think I prefer the left hand.”
What does your voice sound like?
“Um… an odd question. I am not as loud or strong in my voice as I should be.”
What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
“I am still learning the earthen languages, so if there are words or phrases I use more frequently than others, it is simply because I do not know another way of saying something. I cannot think of any word or phrase in specific, though.”
What do you have in your pockets?
“A small notebook and a pencil, here. Some money that the people sometimes insist on giving me. This… is a letter. And a communicator, of the Titans.”
Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
“Perhaps my stuttering with the earthen languages can be defined as this. I cannot think of anything else.”
PART 2: GROWING UP
How would you describe your childhood in general?
“… I did not have much of it. Not in a typical way. I was sent away from home very early to preserve the royal bloodline for the case that the war would have gone worse, ... and I could not afford being a child after that.”
What is your earliest memory?
“My mother. She was carrying me with her in flight, and singing a song to me.”
How much schooling have you had?
“I did not have much of the typical learning. But I have taken care to learn many things from scrolls and books that the… that I had where I was after Tamaran.”
Did you enjoy school?
“I didn’t experience it for much time. But I think yes, I did.”
Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
“By training them myself. I… I was on my own a lot of my time.”
While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
“My father. I knew I was to follow in his footsteps eventually, and so I have always admired him. …”
While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
“I was not with them very long. I loved my mother and Kori dearly, and I believe they returned such. With what I know of Ari by now, I am uncertain about my connection to her back then.”
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
“There was never the question of what I wanted. I knew my destiny.”
As a child, what were your favorite activities?
“…”
As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
“… I don’t know. I lived alone most of the time. I think I was focused on what I was required to do.”
As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
“… Must you really ask me to repeat it again and again how isolated I grew up?”
When and with whom was your first kiss?
[[NOTE: I like to take the answer below as default for when it isn't a topic in our threads. If however we're doing our own version of him coming to Earth, or if it works better for like shipping or whatever reason, I won't assume this to have happened, and his answer then would be that he didn't do any first kiss yet.]]
“It was… once I came to Earth. I wasn’t aware of my inability yet since I left Tamaran before it would be tried, and I was hoping to learn the earthen language faster this way. It was with Hay Lin (aerokinesiiss), she has helped me a lot even before we could talk with the other understanding, and I explained it to her. It was… very wonderful, even if it also showed me that I cannot learn the languages in the typical tamaranean way.”
Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
“I am not special for a tamaranean.”
PART 3: PAST INFLUENCES
What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
“… My isolation. Losing everyone, twice.”
Who has had the most influence on you?
“My parents, certainly. Also, the Shallas that were taken because of me, perhaps.”
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
“I didn’t do anything good.”
What is your greatest regret?
“That I left them. That I wasn’t there, when the place was… when they were… I’m sorry.”
What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
“I don’t think I did anything evil.”
Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
“Not that I am aware of, no.”
When was the time you were the most frightened?
“In the capsule… after the ship was destroyed, and I was drifting…”
What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
“I don’t know. I can’t think of anything.”
If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
“What happened. I want to stay on Tamaran, either, or not lose the Shallas. Because all these experiences were very very painful. And perhaps I would be better now if they would not have happened.”
What is your best memory?
“The togetherness with my mother.”
What is your worst memory?
“Coming back to the village of the Shallas, after… it.”
PART 4: BELIEFS & OPINIONS
Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
“I think, I am more pessimistic.”
What is your greatest fear?
“Having those that I care strongly for come to harm, without being able to act against it - or worse, because of me.”
What are your religious views?
“I don’t believe in any religion.”
What are your political views?
“About what?”
What are your views on sex?
Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
“It is never right to kill. Even violence alone is always wrong.”
In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
“Kill and hurt others. Especially when they are innocent or still children.”
Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
“To a degree, yes.”
What do you believe makes a successful life?
“Being happy, having someone around that loves you and that you love.”
How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
“I try to be honest. But I sometimes don’t understand what I am feeling or thinking, so it is difficult to be honest about that.”
Do you have any biases or prejudices?
“I don’t think so.”
Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
“If the circumstances truly leave no other choice, and it is for saving someone I care for, I would not refuse to do anything needed.”
Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
“My family. My friends. Anyone that I love.”
PART 5: RELATIONSHIPS W/OTHERS
In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
“I try to be friendly, and polite. Regardless of if I know them or not.”
Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
“Now? Starfire. It was Will (skymade) for a long time, although I was convinced that I had only made her up to have company during my loneliness.”
Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
“Galfore. He is so strong, so capable, he is a good successor of father.”
Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
“I don’t know about a best friend. Is it something you must discuss and agree on? I love all my friends much. They are too many to describe.”
Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
“I don’t have that, no.”
Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
[[NOTE: Connected to the 'first kiss' piece above, same thing applies here, otherwise his answer would be no he hasn't]]
“… She helped me. We couldn’t communicate at all, and she helped me. Without words, without knowing anything. I could have been a danger too, but she helped me. How could I not, how do earthlings say, fall in love?”
What do you look for in a potential lover?
“I don’t want anyone who uses too much violence. Be friendly, help others, have the patience to understand me despite my language difficulties. But, really, the only thing I really want is to love and be loved equally. ... To not be alone anymore.”
How close are you to your family?
“I am growing closer again to Starfire with every time that we meet again. With Blackfire, I doubt that it is possible to grow close to her.”
Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
“… It is a nice idea. But I haven’t yet, and I fear doing so. It is difficult, when I will not be able to stay here, when I am often still unsure about understanding my own emotions, and… and the risk of getting a child is also very big.”
Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
“Starfire, or Galfore.”
Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
“All my friends. And Galfore. Because I know they would do the same for me as I would do for them. I believe Galfore has also sworn it to our father.”
If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
“… I don’t know. I was missing for a long time. I think Starfire would miss me. Perhaps my other friends as well, although I would not want anyone to suffer from missing me.”
Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
“I don’t despise anyone. ... Perhaps the Gordanians, but none in specific.”
Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
“I avoid arguing. It is not something I enjoy.”
Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
“No. I am not good with social matters.”
Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
“Large groups are making me more nervous. I prefer a few friends.”
Do you care what others think of you?
“Yes, but also no. I know it matters most what I think, but… it helps, to know what others think.”
PART 6: LIKES & DISLIKES
What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
“I like to watch people. I sit somewhere, at a street many pass, and watch them. Oh, I like drawing, as well. And writing my thoughts down.”
What is your most treasured possession?
“My cloak. It gives me comfort, and it feels to me like mother.”
What is your favorite color?
“I don’t know. I like the less strong ones; is it called pastel?”
What is your favorite food?
“I don’t have a favourite. I’m still learning about the varieties of food.”
What, if anything, do you like to read?
“I read many things to learn the languages. If I could understand it easier, I think I would like to read stories that take me into a different world, into a fantasy.”
What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
“As long as I am not alone, I can enjoy it. It is not the entertainment that truly matters to me, it is the company.”
Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
“No, I don’t.”
How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
“Not any different than another day. With friends if I can.”
What makes you laugh?
“My friends being happy and joking.”
What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
“Unneeded usage of violence. Verbal insulting is also very rude.”
What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
“I would go to a roof, and watch the stars. The view of the stars in the sky has always helped me think.”
How do you deal with stress?
“Not good. It can hinder me a lot.”
Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
“I don’t know. Both? I might prefer a plan.”
What are your pet peeves?
PART 7: SELF IMAGES & OTHER
Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
“It is not different from the routine of everyone, I assume. Waking, preparing, eating, doing something, eating, perhaps doing something more and eating again, and then prepare for and go to sleep. How I feel about it depends on if the disruption is pleasant.”
What is your greatest strength as a person?
“… I don’t think I have any.”
What is your greatest weakness?
“How much not-tamaranean I am.”
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
“I… I don’t know. Maybe I would make myself more tamaranean. Braver, louder, stronger, more confident. More like father was.”
Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
“Introverted, I think.”
Are you generally organized or messy?
“I think I prefer organization.”
Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
“… I don’t think I’m good at anything.
I’m bad at being tamaranean. I’m bad at being convincing. I’m bad at interacting with others.”
Do you like yourself?
“… Not really.”
What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…)
“I never really had much of a choice. I explore Earth because I like it here.”
What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
“… I don’t know.”
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
“I don’t like to think about it.”
If you could choose, how would you want to die?
“I would like to only die after a long life.”
If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
“I would go to my friends. I would go to… who I care for the strongest, and admit that. I want to fill my last bit of time with as much as I can.”
What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
“I don’t know. I can’t think of anything.”
What three words best describe your personality?
“Shy. Weak. Hesitating.”
What three words would others probably use to describe you?
“Un-tamaranean. Weak. Incapable.”
If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice…)
Oh Ry, my poor sweet little Ry. All that I really would need to give him as advice, though I know that it won’t help a thing, is that he needs to stop thinking so low of himself. He needs to understand and accept that he is capable, that his differences to the typical tamaranean might even be good for a change for a Ruler, that there is nothing wrong with being different.

I'm a little torn on TimBer. On one hand, I genuinely love them, I love how they've been portrayed in canon, how happy and safe the relationship makes Tim feel, and I don't want to lose that. I like them together and I hope they stay together.
But on the other hand. I also want to give Tim a harem.
Putting it that way is mostly a joke. What I mean is, I would love to see him acquire just as many potential boyfriends as he (and let's face it, most superheroes) collected potential girlfriends.
And I don't mean the ones people expect either, like Kon or Bart, no no. I mean like, I want to give Tim a "Kissing Catwoman" dynamic with an age-appropriate antihero. A villain with a hatecrush who obsesses over him like Joker does Batman. Maybe member of some evil organization who defects from decadence because they want to smooch Tim. All the classics, but make it gay.
Dynamics within hero groups would be fun too. It'd be hilarious to toss Tim into a chance meeting with Starfire's younger brother Ryand'r, what with Tamaran's equal-opportunity lack of nudity taboo and the learning languages through kissing thing. Tim would get so adorably flustered dealing with a confidently flirtatious half-naked alien boy who's starting to understand his sister's affection for "little birds" if they're all so cute when they blush.
Or maybe one of the younger Super boys could develop a precocious crush -- I could see the argument for using either Chris or Jon in the role, one of those where it probably won't go anywhere but it'd be cute and have the potential to drive Kon and/or Damian up the wall.
Just. Boyfriends. I want Tim to get the chance to explore this newly-realized affection for men in all its forms before he settles down.

Ryand'r, Kori's little brother, from dc, obviously
He’s just a great uncle to Mar’i and Jake, all too happy to share with them the wonders and thrilling tales of the Royal Family’s Palace and Court
For Jake, Ryand’r teaches him ancient Tamaranean martial arts and other techniques the planet’s finest warriors which prove handy for Jake’s superhero job
As for Mar’i, he’d give her the finest dresses and also the funniest tales of Royal court intrigue which always catches her attention since she loves those

I fucking hate Kory's parents, man
But you could use them to illustrate how a family dynamics plays out when you have a narc parent
Tumblr media
You have the Narc Dad: Myand'r
Enabling mother: Luand'r
Golden child: Kory
Scapegoat: Kom
Invisible child: Ryan
I'm not excusing Kom. Being abused is an explanation to developing into a bad person yes, but it's not an excuse. She doesn't have to be a bitch and a traitor, but she chooses to be one, that's on her.
At the same time, I'm not excusing Kory either, she is being compelled to be this perfect self-sacrificing daughter because deep inside that's less painful than acknowledging that she'll never give enough, they will always want more and more and more of her, it doesn't matter if she gets hurt or burnout. But she could choose to see her parents for what they are.

Earth-64 | The Anders-Grayson Household
Dick Grayson, codename Nightwing, is the eldest son of Bruce Wayne (Batman I), and the former leader of the first iteration of the Teen Titans. He currently operates as a solo vigilante in Bludhaven, New Jersey. He is married to model and actress Kori'and'r.
Kori Anders, codename Starfire, is the Duchess of Tamaran in the Vega System, and a superheroine on Earth. She is a former leader of the first iteration of the Teen Titans, and currently operates as a superheroine in Key West, Florida. She is married to gymnastics coach Dick Grayson.
Delphii Anders-Grayson, codename Oracle II, is the eldest child of Dick Grayson and Kori Anders. They work as an actress and model, traveling around the globe for gigs. Despite inheriting their mother's powers, they aren't interested in heroics. They are genderfluid, and their godparents are Barbara Gordon and Ryand'r.
Apollo Iordanou, codename Solar Seer, is the only ward of the Anders-Grayson household. Found by the Justice League after crashing into Earth, Apollo works as Starfire's first official sidekick. Later it is revealed that while Apollo is not a Tamaranean, he shares the common ancestor of the Tamaraneans. He is dating Tushar Logan, the son of Ratna and Garfield Logan. Karen and Malcolm Beecher-Duncan serve as his unofficial godparents.
Mari Anders-Grayson, codename Nightstar, is the eldest daughter of the Anders-Grayson household. She serves as the leader of the fifth iteration of the Teen Titans. She is dating Lian Harper, and her godparents are Wally and Linda West.
Maloney 'Mandy' Anders-Grayson, codename Cosmic Moon, is the middle daughter of the Anders-Grayson household. She works as an independent superheroine in Key West, Florida, trying to separate herself from her sister and her mother and forge her own identity. Her godparents are Ratna and Garfield Logan.
Ciba Anders-Grayson, codename Acro-Bat, is the youngest daughter of the Anders-Grayson household. She serves as a member of the Justice League's stealth team. Unlike her siblings, she did not inherit any of Starfire's powers, a point of great insecurity for her, and to compensate she aimed for the leadership spot in her own team only to lose out to another member. Her godparents are Donna Troy and Garth, which is funny because she lost the leadership position to the Atlantean member her godfather introduced.
Jacob Anders-Grayson, codename Starwing, is the youngest and only biological son of the Anders-Grayson household. Unlike his twin sister Ciba, he inherited his mother's powers and uses them to serve as his father's sidekick in Bludhaven. His godparents are Roy Harper and (by this point) a redeemed Komand'r.

Since we have yet to see Wildfire (Starfire's younger brother) in his animated appearance, maybe in Season 5 is where he appeared to have escaped the clutches of Darkseid and his elder sister, Blackfire. Then landed on Earth.
Once he met the future members of the Team, whose leader was Aqualad (AJ Curry), Wildfire introduced himself as Ryand'r, the prince of Tamaran. He should be portrayed as a soft individual who hated fighting others. And Blackfire sets her sights to eliminate her younger brother so that she will remain the heir to the throne of Tamaran after allying herself with Darkseid and the Gordarian army.
After explaining the situation to the Team, Wildfire was welcomed. But had to strengthen his mind and body in order to win back the freedom of his planet.
it would be cool to see the Tamaranians in YJ, though I would like to see Starfire before we see her siblings. I could totally see Blackfire team up with Darkseid
and yeah I've always been interested in which of the kids might eventually join the team in the future

SCANNING…IDENTIFICATION COMPLETE. ENTER [MAR'I GRAYSON], [CHILD] OF [DICK GRAYSON AND KORIAND'R]. CODENAME: [NIGHTSTAR].  A [23] [THIRD] YEAR ENROLLED IN THE [SUPERHUMAN] TRACK. INTEL SHOWS THEY ARE [SYMPATHETIC], BUT CAN ALSO BE [TOO TRUSTING]. ABILITIES INCLUDE [TAMERANIAN PHYSIOLOGY, ADVANCED ACROBATICS]. FACIAL RECOGNITION MISTAKES THEM FOR [GRETA ONIEOGOU].
Demographics
Name: Mar’i Grayson
Alias: Nightstar
Gender: HetFem
Course: Superhuman
Year: Third
Birthday: Jul. 15 ( Cancer)
Age: 23
Sexual Orientation: demi/pansexual - she’s still figuring things out
Moral Alignment: Chaotic Good
Hero Profile
Power/Talent: Human/Tamaranean Hybrid Physiology, Advanced Acrobatics, Advanced hand to hand
Power/Talent Description: The powers gained from her Tamaranean physiology include: Energy Absorption, Energy Projection, linguistic assimilation, Superhuman Strength, Flight, Starbolts, the ability to breathe in space. Her father trained her as a child in acrobatics and she as just as good, if not better, than Dick Grayson himself. She is also skilled in hand to hand combat as well as other fighting forms her mother taught her.
Weaknesses: Starbolts are weaker (though still powerful) at night due to her powers drawing energy from the sun. Mar’i is also extremely emotional, and since her powers stem from emotion can sometimes cause her to not be able to control them correctly.  She also has an extreme fear of getting sick and her loved one’s getting sick.
Hero/villain Name: Nightstar
Costume Description: She wears an outfit similar to her mother’s teen titans’ outfit at this age. A two-piece suit, which consists of a purple crop top and mini skirt. Her thigh-high boots are also the same shade of vibrant purple.
Weapons: Escrima Sticks– while Mar’i typically relies on her powers, she is trained to work without them. Something her grandfather and father insisted on.
Gadgets/Tech: A communicator but normally nothing else
Bio
Canon per Kingdom Come: Mar’i was initially raised by both of her parents on Earth with the help of her adoptive grandfather Bruce Wayne and other Titans. Mar'i was young, she became terrified at the possibility of her parents (and particularly her father) dying. At some point in Mar'i's childhood, Dick and Kory split up and Kory returned to Tamaran to rule alongside her brother Ryand'r. While Mar’i visited her mother on the Tamaranian Outpost outside of the Vega System every summer, she was primarily raised by her father on Earth. As a result, she was fairly close to her father, considering him her “hero” since childhood but still loves and idolizes both parents. She also shares a close relationship with her grandfather, calling him “Grandpa Bruce.” When Mar’i is young (7/8), Koriand’r dies of an alien respiratory disease realizing her greatest fear.
My Canon: It was here when her perfectionism began developing. Mar’i was often told she was the “light” of the Batfamily. After Koriand’r’s death, Mar’i watched as her mother’s death affected her father she noticed how sullen he was unless he was speaking to her. She noticed how her family’s demeanor always seemed to lighten when it came to her. In the young Halfling’s head she took it as a responsibly. She thought, if she could be perfect. Always smiling. Always helpful. Always happy. Her family would be too. Even in moments where she would “cry”, it would only be in moments where her family could help her to make them feel good. She morphed herself into the perfect daughter/niece/cousin. Eventually this became second nature for her, not thinking twice about placing on the mask she showed
Growing up while in school and on Tamaran she also suffered bullying. Never human enough for the earth kids. She had some of her mother’s mannerisms and it did not bold well for children. It was also hard for her to contain her emotions and hide what she was. She found joy in many things, even with the judgement, and next thing you knew her hair was glowing and she was floating. It resulted in And of course, never alien enough for Tamaran.  They saw her as a half breed, unworthy of the princess title. But still she held her head high, never letting them see how much it bothered her.
This was why she loves LKU so much. There’s so many different species and types of students there. It’s the first place she’s felt where she truly belong, outside of her family of course.

Hey I really liked the discussion you were having with the other anons about Kory's arranged marriage arc especially the parts about how the titans don't really engage with her family or seem to have any opinions on how they treated her much. Off the top of my head I just remember Dick touching on it in moments like this (https://64.media.tumblr.com/b6baf170a9096af39e720fb44929c44c/tumblr_inline_nx94j70TcR1smk9mx_500.png) and little else. Do you know any other comics where Tamaran and Kory's family are explored in greater depth? I know there was a bit of it in the 99 Titans series but honestly I didn't like that comic much.
I remember mostly when we do Tamaran stuff, Dick is often a focus so we don't get to see other Titans interacting with Kory about her family much sadly. The one panel you showed does show one instance of Dick touching on it but yeah like so much else was just not there. Many of the other moments he does not acknowledge her messed up family situation at all ;_; and he's one of the characters who the writers include talking to her about this for significant periods of time, many others just aren't given that panel time with her post ToT. Joey was there the whole Tamaran v2 arc but if I recall correctly mostly interacted with Dick and Ryand'r, he didn't do much with Kory.
I'd have to re-read some NTT comics to look for small moments with other characters, but nothing at the moment is popping to my head. I haven't read titans 99 so I don't know what's going on in that story.
Kory's family does set up some fascinating dynamics, like there's so much to be said for how she perceives things -- and like aside I think that if we did see her and the titans talk about it, the fact that kory defends her parents would make them reluctant to bad-talk them too much and they might be avoidant about it, which could be interesting to see -- anyway so there is also much to be said about how her parents treated both her and kom (and also analysis on the fact that kom's inferiority complex, which is tied into her villainous actions, is also impossible to separate from her disability) but what I've got for them so far is just NTT. But I haven't read when she is in space after she leaves the titans; so maybe that might have something?

Chapter Two: Film
Roy burst into the dorm with a smile on his face. "You. Me. Tonight. My truck-."
"Please tell me where you're going with this before it gets weird," Dick interrupted. Roy flashed two movie tickets. "I can't go tonight."
"What? Why? You love the drive-in!" Roy shouted.
Dick nodded and sighed. "Yeah, but I can't go tonight. I've gotta pack," Dick replied. He handed Roy an envelope.
"What's this?" Roy questioned as he sat next to Dick. He tapped the envelope against his knee. Dick leaned forward, hiding his face in his hands.
"An invitation to Kory's wedding," Dick replied.
"She sent you an invitation?" Roy questioned. Dick shook his head. "Who-?"
"Her brother. Kory's brother sent me an invitation to her wedding," Dick mumbled. Roy frowned.
"You're going?" Roy asked. "You kind of have to go now, don't you?" Dick shrugged.
"I'm gonna go... It doesn't mean I'm okay with it. Maybe if I see her, I can talk her out of marrying him," Dick replied, "Get her to do something for herself once."
"For herself or for you?" Roy questioned. Dick scoffed and stood up. He packed his suitcase, and Roy chewed his lip. "Don't go over there causing trouble. You're going to their country. So you play by their rules."
"The same rules that forced Kory into literal slavery-."
"Dick, you're allowed to disagree with how they do things but try to be respectful. It's not gonna help Kory if you go over there acting like... yourself," Roy warned. Dick glared at him. "You're a confrontational person by nature! I get that, and so does everyone else, but you cannot go somewhere you don't belong picking fights."
"I am not confrontational!" Dick shouted.
"You got in a fight with me the first time we met, Dick," Roy replied as he stretched out on the bed. "I like that you're a jerk sometimes. It keeps our friendship interesting... But you're an acquired taste for a lot of people."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence, Roy," Dick replied as he zipped his suitcase.
"Do you want a ride to the airport?" Roy offered. Dick shook his head.
"Joey's coming with-."
"You invited Joey? Wow... Okay-."
"You couldn't go even if you wanted to. You've got your Chem exam coming up," Dick replied, "And Joey doesn't give unsolicited advice. Are you gonna be okay while I'm gone?"
"I'm fine... Are you gonna behave yourself when you're in Tamaran?" Roy questioned.
"Try not to fall into bed with the nearest breathing brunette," Dick returned as he took his bag and moved toward the door. Roy stopped him.
"That's easy. I've known you and Garth for years, and I've never slept with either of you-."
"Like I'd ever let you hit this," Dick joked.
Roy scoffed. "Like I wouldn't rock your world," Roy kidded. Dick shook his head and laughed as he left the dorm. Roy rustled a hand through his hair and sighed before calling Jade.
"Hi, Roy. We don't meet until Saturday... Did something come up?" Jade asked.
"No, well-. Yeah, but I'm not calling to cancel. I'm calling to see if-."
"Please don't ask me on a date... I'm sure you're nice, and you're-."
"What if it wasn't a date?" Roy replied.
Jade laughed. "And how isn't it a date?" Jade asked.
"I only asked you because my best friend bailed on me... And I won't share my popcorn with you. I won't even dress nice," Roy replied. Jade laughed. "Am I selling this outing to you, or are you laughing at me?"
"Both," Jade chuckled, "What are we doing on this not-date?"
"We're going to the drive-in," Roy replied, "And I can pick you up at school... I have to put my shoes on and meet you wherever."
Roy slipped his feet into his shoes, holding his phone between his ear and shoulder. "What are we going to see?" Jade questioned. He heard her open a door in the background.
"We're going to see Yes Man," Roy replied, "Where do you want me to meet you? The movie starts at seven."
"I'll meet you by the dorms. I was about to go on my run anyway," Jade replied.
Roy nodded and made a soft noise. "Good. I'll see you in thirty minutes for our not-date," Roy replied.
"Definitely not a date," Jade repeated as she hung up the phone.
*
Roy stood in front of the dorms with his keys in hand. He rolled his shoulders back and stretched until he felt a tap on his shoulder. Roy turned around to see Jade in grey joggers and a cropped sweatshirt. "Ready to say yes?" Jade asked. Roy rubbed the back of his neck, taking a deep breath before chuckling.
"You could've tried to look gross on our date. Do I need to go change or something?" Roy joked.
Jade shook her head. "You better not be lying about hogging the popcorn," Jade teased as she followed him to the truck.
They drove in near-silence until Roy remembered to turn on the radio. "I wouldn't hold it against you if you chose to speak to me," Jade teased.
Roy nodded. "How'd you do on your music appreciation quiz?" Roy questioned.
"Great, actually... Thanks for asking. Ready for our Chem quiz next week?" Jade returned.
"Hopefully, I will," Roy answered.
"I'm free again tomorrow night if you want to study. I've got nothing but time now that I've got that quiz out of the way," Jade offered. Roy smiled and nodded. "See, talking doesn't have to be romantic in nature."
"Yeah, well, I'm still not sharing my popcorn with you," Roy joked. Jade chuckled.
"Good, I don't like popcorn. I like nachos," Jade replied, "And I don't share my nachos."
"I can't believe you eat movie theater nachos," Roy half-joked, "I'm so glad this isn't a date."
"And I'm gonna eat it with my fingers since we're not trying to impress each other-."
"Hey, I can not-date you way harder than you're not-dating me," Roy interrupted.
"Wanna bet?" Jade questioned.
"Ten bucks says I can not-date you way better than you can not-date me," Roy replied. Jade scoffed.
"You're on, popcorn boy," Jade laughed.
