T/N: So, in the Tsubaki & Higan dialog, Higan literally asks Tsubaki to “cheat well” or “gloss over” it, but that seems to mean “Tell Sham some good reason that’s not ‘I washed it’“ lmao. And Tsubaki’s answer is literally “there’s a limit to the amount of variations of an excuse for why the phone broke”, but that felt a bit redundant lmao. Also, Higan, pls. Check your pockets. I’ve washed money before, I think once or twice a DS cartridge, but...

Otogiri technically just says “The smell stays” or “the smell clings”, but while that sounded fine in Japanese, I felt like it was missing something in English. Higan’s last line in that dialog is literally just “Uncle feels inferior”, but I figured it’s because Otogiri sends him out when it’s cold (I’m on her side).

Also, he still uses “old man”/”uncle” for “I” a few times more often than I translated bc it sounded weird to me to let him say it Every. Single. Time.

That little pause before Tsurugi replies... T_T

Also love the idea of just. Kyoko overworking herself while on a case, and Gundham’s immediate response being to just. plop a kitten in her lap. (it works and she ugly cries about it but then later denies that it ever happened)

i like it as a ship, i don’t mind it at all! one of my FAVE trial moments is in trial 3 when gundham gets confused about the uhhhhhhhibuki’s body thing and chiaki is like “oh you want me to explain it to you right? because you dont understand what im saying right? :o” and gundham says “an even bigger jerk?! IMPOSSIBLE!!! >:(” and then he continues to speak gibberish @ her while she’s trying to explain it, their own mini rebuttal showdown lmao AND THEN hajime has to consent with sonia’s statement to prove that chiaki is right before he just rebuttal showdowns with hajime (”’does that mean you have a rebuttal?’... hmph, thats a good line.”) omg i love him :’)

uh anyways there’s also that little part in chapter one where chiaki helps look under the lodge with him. “oh these two are silly :)” was one of my first thoughts when i was getting through sdr2 for the first time

she also has that thing with thinking animals are wierd/they make her uncomfortable SOOO gundham would be The Guy for her to talk to about getting more comfortable with them (like how in her third fte her and hajime go to the ranch and she pets the cow AND like with pekos first fte hajime suggests she go talk to gundham about her own problem with animals RAISES BROWS)

TN: The words Sham uses with Bel are “tsume ga amai”, tsume meaning (among other things) the last few moves when playing Shogi, though it’s apparently used for losing focus etc near the end of stuff in general.

And the word Shuuhei uses, which I put as “mixed feelings”, also means complicated, so his line could’ve also been translated as “It’s complicated”. Love how Sham and Shuuhei are like “Wtf is going on??” while Yoshimasa is just vibing.

Also, with most of Team Melancholy, Shamrock uses “kisama”, which is like, SUPER rude in current day Japanese (hence why, when Misono uses it, it’s often translated as Bastard). Tsubaki is, of course, Young Master, but I love how polite he is with Otogiri. That’s a gentleman right there lmao. Also, what I’m gathering from their dialogue is that Otogiri is ripped af so she can make her own soba.

Wow I often forget how great Yoshimasa is bc like... He did not get much focus... But then I look at this and. I love him lmao. I want him back, idk how that’d work, but he’s fun.

It starts out with a nice little walk for the girls - they’re holding hands and chatting and Akane is showing off her fighting moves while Sonia looks on in amazement! There’s mentions of Novoselic courting customs, to which Akane replies that she doesn’t really understand what Sonia’s saying, but she’s willing to do those things if they’re important to the Nevermind girl.

Meanwhile, Kazuichi is positively STEWING WITH RAGE behind the bushes. Gundham is telling him to shut his stupid whore mouth, but Souda is 100% throwing a total bitch fit.

Gundham: I need something that will shut this moron up

also Gundham, immediately: ah. The kiss of death. Surely the most reasonable and efficient and platonic of solutions to this conundrum.

Anyway. he kisses the bastard. And it works! Kazuichi shuts the fuck up! and he is also flustered and blushing and panicking because what. what the hell. what in the hell fuck was that. oh no he liked it. oh no he liked it.

Kazuichi is a big baby about it and pulls his beanie down over his eyes so he doesn’t have to think about anything for a while. Gundham is losing his shit, internally, but is ultimately and performative lt nonchalant about the whole thing.

I tend to imagine these two falling in love takes a LONG fucking time - a bit of a slow burn, if you will - so this would be the first instance in a lengthy series of enemies-to-lovers nonsense :)

Kazuichi hides in his room for at least a week succeeding the kiss. Akane and Sonia are both incredibly confused. Gundham refuses to comment. <3

Kazuto Ioka vs Kosei Tanaka - 12/31/2020

It is the last week of the year and that means Japan is about to give us a ton of big time fights. While RIZIN vs Bellator is going down on NYE for MMA fans, boxing fans can look forward to another Kazuto Ioka (29-2) title defense. Forgotten a bit by western fans as the super flyweight division has seen increased exposure over the last several years, Ioka is a damn good 115lber who has had an incredible career fighting at home in Japan. And the dude is a star, regularly drawing in big numbers for his fights on TV. Last time I checked, the estimates were in the 10 million person range.

Anyway, Ioka is back for another New Year’s Eve defense. He will be defending his WBO title while also trying to snatch the WBA title against Joshua Franco (18-1-2). And that fight will be this Saturday (Dec. 31).
