Man who is secretly an alien but also the worst liar on earth
COMMISSIONS OPEN
The 40’s superman radio show honestly has so many jokes that still hold up, this is more or less an exact interaction from one of the episodes
I may or may not have couple mini comics sketched up for this show 👀👀
Text ID under cut;
4 Panel digital art mini comic of 1940’s radio show Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen
Panel 1 - Clark Kent is a blur on the left side as he uses his superspeed to arrive. In front of him on the right is Jimmy Olsen he's taking a photo.
Panel 2 - Clark is now fully in focus and looks very uncomfortable. Jimmy looks up at Clark and says "Hey Mister Kent, I didn't see you come. Say, how'd you get here so quickly, anyways"
Panel 3 - Clark holds up his left hand swatting off the question, he looks uncomfortably off to the side with an obviously strained smile and replies "ha ha ha... Never mind that." In front Jimmy looks at him questioningly.
Panel 4 - Clark points to the right with conviction as he shouts "what's that over there!", His glasses shine blocks out his eyes. Jimmy follows Clark's finger.

It is finally done! This chapter turned out way longer than I planned. But they all have a lot to discuss.
EXCERPT:
Lena looks at her hand and murmurs the spell she’d learned in her dreams. The gold light shimmers in her hand like a flame almost. She tilts her hand back and forth then upside down. The gold flame sticks to her hand and only dissipates when she clenches her fist.
Wait.
Lena scrambles to her feet. She didn’t need to repeat the chant.
She murmurs the chant once and holds her palm up toward the ceiling. Sure enough, the light reappears, but it doesn’t go away or grow bigger when she falls silent. It stays in her hand, flickering almost like torchlight. Holy shit.
Before the unbinding, she had to keep the chant going for the energy to stay in formation. After that moment, any magic she did was intuitive, she didn’t think, just did it. So had the chants allowed her to push through the cracks in her binding? It’s the best hypothesis she has.
“Hey you,” Kara’s voice startles her. The gold flame briefly flares before Lena quickly shuts her fist to stifle it.
“Hey.” She sits down and grasps Kara’s hand. The blonde’s pallor is definitely better, more golden than pale now. “How are you feeling?”
“Tired and achy, but no more pain!” Kara grins as if that’s the best news in the world. Maybe for a Super it is. Her hand squeezes Lena’s. “And you? I saw that magic flame. You weren’t chanting for it! Did you learn a new trick?”
“You could say so.” Lena gives a one-shoulder shrug. Now seems as good as any to address their prior battle. “I would like to inform you that I’m mildly angry at you.”
She prides herself on her precise control over her behaviors, thoughts, and words. And yet, when Kara was injured, she’d lost all three in a melding of the sword’s aliveness with her fury. She shudders to think of what might have happened if Kara and her friends hadn’t found a way to pull her back.
“Only mildly?” Kara’s smile is cocky almost. “Gosh, must be losing my touch.”
Lena sighs and clenches Kara’s hand tighter. “You could have died, Kara.”
The levity in Kara’s expression fades. “I — I had to do something. I felt you fading. And he hurt you.”

RWBY being “childish” is far more a feature than a flaw.
I’ve been thinking about this since My Adventures With Superman started on Adult Swim. Though it shares a TV block with far more risque and PG-13 shows, it’s actually a TV-Y7 show sent there to avoid Davey-boy’s Max Axe (patent pending).
And a lot of people love it. Yes, you have doubters like how Live Wire is portrayed (so far, people) or Slade but plenty like how Clark Kent is the big blue boy scout actual fans have known him to be.
The fact is that if it was made for Adult Swim from inception, then chances are that it wouldn’t lean into such optimistic territory with Superman doing good for goodness sake or Lois and Jimmy being such delights. There’s likely to be some dark elements but none that other cartoons of today haven’t dipped their toe into within kids TV S&P.
That reminds me of RWBY except for the fact that the show never started out with kids in mind. Monty, Miles and Kerry even got their start writing for Red Vs. Blue which started as a dudebro web comedy and continued to be even as more epic elements were implimented.
RWBY easily could’ve been this Anime parody that took the piss out of the medium it was paying tribute to but there’s an earnestness to it that largely occurs with shows aimed at younger audiences or at least below older teens.
It could’ve gone for the type of Bathos that modern media has been racked over the coals for (despite it stemming from far more earlier examples like Action or Buddy Cop flicks) but it decided not to. I feel like that’s a significant factor in the “Childish” accusation.
It dares to say that Ironwood’s not the big strong general man who’ll see them through to Salem’s defect. It dares to say that Mantle isn’t just a few city blocks but full of people with a right to live and be protected. It dares to say that sacrifice shouldn’t even be the last option so much as not on the table at all.
It dares to say that a better world is possible with people who can better themselves.
And we need more stories outside of kids shows to dare and be that sincere. Hell, Anime overall has been popular because of a multitude of titles that dare to dream of a better world.
