Climate Change Incentive - Terror of Hemasaurus
This week is Terror of Hemasaurus from @LorenLemcke. I remember playing Rampage when I was little and the nostalgia is real. The story is fun and so is the gameplay. Play as a Kaiju and destroy the world in the name of climate change. #indiegame #Blog

Review: Terror of Hemasaurus
Terror of Hemasaurus is an immensely entertaining monster-fest that, while never backs down from the carnage, makes the violence work with a layer of cheerful dark humor.  The monsters have a good amount of moves and the gameplay takes advantage of all of them, such as the ability to hacky-sack a human for no other reason than it being funny.  Is there a reason for giant trampolines to be featured in some levels?  Not a good one, no, but slamming down on one to launch into the stratosphere and plummet back to earth with a major butt-pound justifies the inclusion, as does the way cars get bounced into the air when they try to drive over them.

Games I finished in 2023
Tumblr media
Nine years ago I had a bigass retro game collection but I barely played them so it felt more like hoarding than "collecting" so I sold them all. A few years ago I got back into gaming with the renewed focus to actually finish games I play.
This year's list is smaller than the previous years (2020, 2021, 2022) so go back and read those if you want.
These are teh games I beat in 2023...
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (Switch) 😲 I played the demo years ago and it didn’t grab me but after spending some time with it (100+ hours logged) it grew on me. It’s a lot better than the first Hyrule Warriors and I’m surprised at how cohesive this one feels because the first one was all over the place. I hated the Ubisoft style map quests at the start but eventually 100%'d it.
Yoshi's New Island (3DS) 😑 Surprisingly one of the few 3DS games I like to play with the 3D effect on. I liked the graphics but hated the Yoshi animation when I first started playing but eventually got over it. The game is _okay_ i felt like I had to muscle through it. I compare every Yoshi game to the original Yoshi’s Island (SNES) and they never seem as good so I gotta replay the original to see if it’s a nostalgia trick or if it still holds up.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch) 😍 "It feels like a DLC for the first game" - I don't see why that is a problem if the first game was great (which it was). Finished every quest, got every piece of armor (didn't max) and that was enough for me (200+ hours logged no ragrets). Looking forward to see where the franchise goes next.
Celeste (PC) 🤯 Late to the party but blasted through this in a few days - pretty fuckin' rad. Wanted to quit a few times but I'm glad I didn't.
Terror of Hemasaurus (Switch) 😅 Played this with my (then) 7 year old son thinking it was a cute homage to Rampage, and it is, but it's also got a lot of fuckin' swear words. Weird system slowdown issues playing on Switch but still playble.
Box Boy & Box Girl (Switch) 🥰- 2 Player Campaign Simple and cute as shit (like me). Very enjoyable for a 2 player puzzle platform experience. Will likely do the 1 Player campaign next.
...and that's all folks.
I'm realizing now I haven't loaded up the Wii U in a while.

One week with the Nintendo OLED Switch and I’m pretty happy with it. Upgrading to a pro controller certainly makes it easier on my hands (and I picked up a case, juuuust in case I actually want to take it somewhere).
Doing well in Mariokart 8. It’s about the perfect type of game for my brainmeats.
The Terror of Hemasaurus is a lot fun (do you remember Rampage? It’s like that... but, amongst other things, you can kick people into helicopters)... she likes it as well and soon we’ll do a co-op round to see how that works out.
Need For Speed Hot Pursuit is challenging on the old brainmeats but I do like it.
Also picked up Fast RMX but hardly played it.

Game Of The Year Awards 2022
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a new year and with that, we celebrate all the games we liked and disliked the past 12 months with our Game Of The Year Awards 2022. It's been a busy year and with so many games and so little time, it is inevitable that we may not have seen or played every game. With all that in mind let's get on with the awards... We start the awards with a category that lets us celebrate games released from other years, we called it an old new game but it could easily be the best-returning game or game we came back to.
Old new game of the year.
- Death Stranding.  - Zelda Breath of the wild.  - Assassin's Creed 2.  - Zelda Cadence Of Hyrule. Not that many on the list but with so many new releases, it's always difficult to find time for game past. Retro In Genre, Not name: 7. Joe And Mac Caveman Ninja. 6. Missile Command Recharged. 5.    Yars Recharged. 4. Breakout Recharged. 3. Shatter Remastered Deluxe. 2. Retro Goal. 1. House of the dead remake. This could have been the best new remaster or something but I thought why not be different? It was a good year for us oldies to relive our childhood!
Tumblr media
Subscription service of the year.
1. Xbox Game Pass. 2.PlayStation 3. Nintendo Switch Online. Always a contentious category, subscriptions this year were up and down for Sony and Nintendo as both struggled to catch up with Xbox. This is technically Playstation's first year having the tiered subscription system but they haven't mastered it yet with many games absent, inconsistent backward-compatible game support, and the pricing. Nintendo is still Nintendo and I don't think they really have a clear picture of what they want but this year it was just a splattering of retro games and the odd bit of DLC. Microsoft continues to lead the pack with competitive pricing and a consistent release schedule of indie and AAA games.
Tumblr media
Next up is the indie game of the year it was a strong year and all I regret is that I didn't have time to play more games! Indie games of the year: 10. tinyKin.  9. Little Orpheus.  8. The last hero of nostalgia.  7. Teardown.  6. Chained echoes.  5. Stray.  4. Thymesia.  3. Citizen Sleeper.  2. Cult Of The Lamb.  1. Vampire Saviours.  If you only played these ten games then you had one hell of a year, as I said this is just a speck on the release calendar of indie games.
Tumblr media
Now the category no one wants to do but it is a necessary evil... Disappointing game of the year:  8. Atari Mania. 7. Deathverse. 6. Save Room. 5. Somerville. 4. 41 Hours. 3. Puzzle Bobble 3D Vacation Odyssey. 2. Gotham Knights. 1. Pokemon Violet. Like I say, it's a necessary evil but these games are all here because it wasn't a smooth or enjoyable ride. But the top of the pile is the prime example. Pokemon Violet was and still is the most broken Pokemon game released whilst Gotham Knights felt empty, recycled, and not very fun. Related Post: Game of the year: Our Top 10 games of 2019 Now for a small recognition list of games I never got to and remembered that fact. Games I needed more time to play: Norco. Dwarf Fortress. Grounded 1.0. Callisto Protocol. Monkey Island. Tunic. Mario And Rabbids. God of War Ragnarock. Need For Speed Unbound. More time would have had these games on the other lists but alas it wasn't to be and now you K ow these games never made it off this list.
Tumblr media
The next list is basically the second half of a much-needed top 20 games of 2022 but instead, I call it a close but not close enough because why not. The Close but not close enough Award: 10. Moonscars.  9.Terror Of Hemasaurus.  8. Doraemon Story Of Seasons Friends.  7. Super Woden GP.  6. Bayonetta 3.  5. Lil Gator.  4. Sonic Frontiers.  3. Xenoblade Chronicles 3.  2. Monster hunter Rise Sunbreak.  1. Rainbow Six Extraction.  Right enough foreplay, let's get onto the reason you are here, this is the Gertlushgaming Game of The year 2022 list and you are welcome to disagree, just don't tell me!
Tumblr media
Game of the year 2022: 10. Sword Of The Vagrant. 9. Modern Warfare 2. 8. Way Of The Hunter. 7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Cowabunga Collection. 6. Madden 23. 5. Overwatch 2. 4. NFL Pro Era. 3. Evil West. 2. Elden Ring. 1. Atari 50 The Anniversary Celebration. There you have it, as I went through reviews, replayed games, and generally put the work in, I went through the game by game until just one remained. A crazy year full of blockbusters and it was truly great fun going through as I honestly didn't know who would win until the end. Atari 50 The Anniversary Celebration is the Gertlushgaming game of the year for 2022 as it broke down barriers and set a new benchmark for how games like this are done. It gave an old gamer like me the chance to relive my childhood, rekindle memories and learn about how it all came to be, I cannot thank the devs enough for doing the Atari catalog justice and making this old gamer very happy in 2022 and beyond! Happy New Year to all of you! Well except for those that hate my list and for you, well have a slightly less happy new year, not a bad one just a mediocre one.   Read the full article

While Monogame is being used for development. While this does not mean a day one release. A native build is "in the cards for sure." Rampage Redemption in Terror of Hemasaurus Open Beta
There are a ton of great little bits in its gameplay that aren’t central to the destruction but fun to do, like grabbing a human and tossing it into the air only to jump up and eat it as it falls, or play car hacky-sack by kicking it several times in a row without letting it touch the ground, and the writing is especially sharp in the between-level cutscenes.

Tim took over the show so I was going to make him write this all, but then he said something about "delegating" to me so here I am.
Thanks Tim, the show kicks off with Tim Ekkebus hijacking the show from my control while Chris Taylor and Pernell Vaughan just sit there and let it happen. It was a bloody insurrection with many lives lost in the process (sorry, not Jacob) but we continue on with the show and talk about stuff like super small text in video games and Chris's new arcade machine! He got one of those table style Arcade 1Up machines. It's pretty awesome, unlike small text in video games. Plus reviews!

Game release: "Terror of Hemasaurus" (PC)
Game release: “Terror of Hemasaurus” (PC)
Loren Lemcke and Digerati‘s arcade action game Terror of Hemasaurus makes being a monster cool again. It’s always satisfying in a guilty pleasure kind of way to smash things up as the bad guy in games, and after the GOG release of “Gigapocalypse” which already featured giant monsters in a pixel art style, this game takes the premise of having four monsters (Hemasaurus, Clocksloth, Salamandrah,…
