Followup to this post. While the Whispers of the Divine aasimar mod has a really cool scourge aasimar-ish option for making your character look like they're being torn apart by burning inner radiance, I wanted to replicate Aylin's endlessly-put-together-again kintsugi vibe. So I messed around with Blender, Substance Painter, bumbled about figuring out Larian's texturing, all the unwrapping and mirroring and seams and whatnot, and ended up having quite a great time, all told. And I'm quite pleased with the results!

The "heart" bit is inspired by her concept art and the scars on the back are of course from the wings. Some more WIP pics and screenshots under the cut.
Starting point was the game's default "Nightsong" body. First Blender experiment before I decided to just freehand it:

Getting some nice gold going in SP, to later separate into the normal map and the "body tattoo" mask:

I ended up using the Unique Tav framework to get this all in the game once it was done and the Body Tattoo Switcher with some parameter tweaks to get the colour and metalicness of the cracks right. Big shoutout to this BG3 Normal Map converter that saved me so much time and the documentation from Volno's Texture Toolbox. Figuring out what goes where exactly and how to really get it all working together was... a process. I am so sorry for all the indignities, Aylin.

Interestingly enough, her default NPC head does have the kintsugi details all over, even though it's not visible because of her hair. Both her canon hairstyles are default PC options (called, iirc, Partial Eclipse and Bardic Inspiration), which is a nice bonus and saves some time.

For Aylin As A Player Character purposes I prefer the "Nightsong" prison hairstyle because you can actually see her face with the camera angles you're going to have 90% of the time. But I mean... you can also give her a cool undercut. She looks good in anything.

And here we are! I played just long enough to recruit Astarion in order to steal his outfit, pull a guy out of a rock, and then get some blue dye.

All animations were created without AI, but making use of various 3D software through careful texturing, modeling and conversion of two-dimensional images. The result is a realistic-looking reproduction perceptible as three-dimensional, thanks to the accurate calculation of perspective and the addition of colors, lights and shadows.

Thursday Update?
Here's some texture progression for the Monster Hunter hammer that I last posted about in the Fall. Learned a lot of things about a lot of things, and the line between "torn and weathered metal" and "kinda scratched up grey plastic" is sometimes a fine one.
The project is almost done but I wanted at least one post this month of my own stuff, so here's unfortunately another WIP post.

How do you texture your art?
(I’m sorry if you’ve answered this before, but every time I see it, it blows me away. It always looks so pretty! <33)
it' just comes down to brush choice and then slapping on an texture set layer effect to "overlay" then hoping it looks good when you look away
I use CSP and i get my paper texutres from default materials here, i dont have a particualr default one i use i jsut search up any paper textures

these just default in there so you can go stupid go crazy, what i do sometimes is that i put one texture clipped to the main foreground character and one texture for background, it jsut helsp make it feel popped out yknow
another thing is jsut brushes, i use SU cream pencil for litterally anything from lineart to shading, i make it really big and it works so well

this are the base underpainting i did with jsut SU Cream pencil and its great, when doing light strokes its litterally so fuckign good. other brushes i use is litterally just the default CSP goache, the main thing is jsut using light pressure and making the brush as big as you need it to make sure the textures are seen, you really want to minimise making blurry blending and more grainy blending
just use whatever grainy brushes you can find, and even some grainy blenders too, just find something that has a lot of grainyness in it when you make the brush big

another weird texture thing i do and i only learned to do this recently, if you want some vibrancy, litterally get any brush (i use the csp goache brush) and if you have the option; set the brush to randomize colour per stroke and set hue to like big (or however you see fit it jsut depends on what you wanna do)
jsut start doing strokes of random colours and blend a litte bit and set the layer effect to anyhting liek any dodge effect or even overlay
it gets you weird splothes of colour that makes it more vibrant in a sense i feel it lends to the texture:

thats all i really got, its a whole lot of experimentation and finding preferences, you really have to train yourself sometimes to stop making blurry blends and jsut maintaint he texture

Battle Damage Pinkbot

In case you wanted to know exactly what kind of idiot I am. I needed a broken version of Pinkbot but since I needed it to be asymmetrical I had to entirely re-do the UVs and texture. At which point I had a brand new updated cleaner version of Pinkbot which I then added all the damage to without backing it up first. So I had to do actual geometry / texture / UV repairs on a broken robot model.

Ok folks... The March is almost over and with it the March Of Robots 2023 is running out as well. Unfortunately I did not manage to keep up with the MOR2023 pace and produce as much robots designs as it takes to post every day, good thing that since day one I did not promise to keep up with it any way ... 😅😅😅 so yeah. We have what we have ... 🙄
But anyway... here`s my new and probably last robot scene I did for MOR2023 with a brand new robot design I did. This one is a multipurpose robot capable of completing different tasks, from working on construction sites to killing stuff on the battlefields or exploring space (space between you and your crush 😋 ) As you may notice this guy here is peaceful good guy taking day shifts as a construction site worker building something... probably another Starbucks for all of you hipster folks to buy your overpraised coffee with ridiculously long name in it (probably a grande iced skinny cinamon dolce latte with almond milk and zero calories)... or a electric scooter shop, idk... you name it 🤭
Any way, I hope you like it! ( The robot, and coffee... and scooter, does not matter, liking something is great, that`s a positive emotion, and it`s never too much of those )
