doing this thing i call "reading every class high school lit book i missed out on" partially because as an english minor i feel like a lot of ppl in my english lectures have already read these books in higschool partially because high school english classes suck balls and i think the way they taught kids to read books was lame and dumb as hell and killed love for reading and i think some of these books they make kids read should never be experienced in a classroom setting

#the horror on my face when i talk to someone and they read catcher in the rye at an age below 16.... that should be a punishable offence #actually teaching catcher in the rye should be illegal. u are meant to experience that on ur own. that shit is between u and god. #the reason why i'm a separate peaceposting rn is because i see the homosexuality and analyze it for fun instead of being bored #if i had to read it in school i'd probably enjoy it less. imagine being quizzed on it. imagine having the themes spilled out for you. gross #if i got reading comprehension quizzed on any book i like i think i would kill myself in front of everyone forever #THAT'S JUST NOT HOW IT WORKS. I had some thoughts about König and a reader who works in a bakery. 🍰

There is a tiny little bakery that König loves. He will murder for this bakery.

It’s a hidden gem with very little foot traffic, locals only know it by word of mouth. König loves it even more because there’s hardly ever anyone inside, and he can handle talking to you. He can.

König had to work up the courage to go in first. He’d stand at the window and stare. And stare. And stare some more.

He finally came inside after a week of that, only to immediately turn around and leave. It took him another week to finally order something.

His first words to you were, “Does it have raisins?”

König would point out things in the display case that he wanted, and you had to play charades to figure out what he was pointing at. You were about to lose your mind making him a coffee.

After a while you eventually learned his ‘usual’, and you would wordless hand him the goods in exchange for money. And he’d quietly sit, hunched over, in a corner and eat. If he didn’t see you at the counter he just wouldn’t come in that day.

That’s König’s corner and god help us all if it was occupied.

König became your regular. He scared your co-workers.

He become comfortable with you after a while and began to speak up more, and slowly grew more talkative. And oh boy, could he talk.

He had very strong opinions about bread.

One time he ordered a cake with the note, “Sorry I shot you.” You were very concerned.

König told you once he considered asking for an empty pie crust. Why, you asked. He wanted to fill it with whip cream and hit someone with it. He decided it would be an insult to the bakery if he weaponised the pastries.

You may or may not have sneaked him an unsold pie that was going to get thrown out and told him to follow his heart.

König took that as a sign.

He ordered an absurd amount of cookies with a list of demands.

Replace the sugar with salt, use chocolate laxatives, and put some extra spicy filling in some of them. There was a look in his eyes, and you were terrified and a little turned on.

He disappeared and reappeared a few weeks later with a broken nose and a limp.

Unbeknownst to you, he had the special goods delivered to Ghost and the rest of the 141 and they really appreciated it.

i just started hunger pangs and ursula immediately going “hm. that’s weird why did that happen” after being extremely injured instead of “wow!! i am extremely injured!!” tells me immediately that this is going to be in my top books of all time

(also i have to say the descriptions in here are So vivid it feels like im watching a movie and that doesnt normally happen so like props to you)

I'm rereading Catcher in the Rye (yes bc of the discourse 🤡) and Holden's like. I left on a note on my history test so my professor wouldn't have to feel bad for failing me. I think my little sister is so smart and she's my favorite person to talk to on the phone. I have to write this essay for my roommate on his shitty typewriter because I already lent my typewriter to someone else. I invite the friendless guy next door to go to the movies with us even though he's consistently rude to everyone. I got in a fistfight with my roommate because I got so upset thinking about how badly he treats girls and the possibility he'd done so to one of my friends. I think you shouldn't be intimate with girls you're not really fond of and it's confusing that sometimes things that seem rude to do are fun in that context and I don't know what to do about it. I'm freezing in the snow because someone stole my coat but I still want to say goodbye. I couldn't stand watching my former headmaster be rude and dismissive to students' parents who didn't look perfect and rich. I'm still heartbroken over my little brother's death from leukemia. 

And people not only call him a misogynist asshole but say things like "I get that's he intentionally written to be an unlikeable monster, but I still hate this book because I just didn't like the experience of being in his head." The book opens with him telling you he's in a sanatorium. There are other reasons to engage with art than just rollicking good funtimes entertainment jfc

(Okay sorry to send multiple asks in one day, but this came to mind whike playing Kingdom)

So I was going through some of the characters' voice lines and all, seeing some stuff and that sort of stuff. So I get to Rye Cookie and start tapping to hear voice lines. Everything was normal until I hear "Ight we can play it rough"

And OH MY GOODNESS I HAD MY GAYEST PANIC YET! Just needed to get this out of my head.

This warrants getting a little saucy.

In one quick dive, Rye Cookie had tackled you onto the ground, making sure she had your arms pinned to the ground as she loomed over you, her smile wide as ever as she breathed heavily, clearly tired out from running after you all this time.

“Ah’ll say, ya gave me a run for my money there, Y/N Cookie. But I ain’t the type of cookie to give up so easily~ You can run all ya like, I ain’t stoppin’ huntin’ until I get ya, honey~”

“And now that I’ve got ya right where I want ya, what do ya say we make this little game of ours a lil’ rougher~?”

You nervously chuckled. You felt like prey in the eyes of the predator right on top of you. Rye Cookie herself chuckling.

“Aw, don’t ya worry, sweetie~ I promise not to bite down too hard on ya~”
